  2. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is one of the best metroidvania games in years, standing proudly alongside Hollow Knight and Ori and the ****** Forest as a highlight of the genre originated by Samus Aran and Simon Belmont. The game has received a huge amount of post-launch support since its original release, and is set to gain even more next week in its 1.5 update, releasing May 9 on PC. Read the rest of the story... 3. It's no secret that the League of Legends Vanguard hasn't exactly gone as planned. With players claiming it's bricking PCs, asking you to delete core Windows systems, and locking HDMI drivers, things keep going from bad to worse. Following a series of claims that the new anti-cheat isn't causing these issues, Riot has doubled down, stating that it has "not confirmed any instances of Vanguard bricking anyone's hardware." 4. It would be nice to live in a world that makes sense, wouldn't it? One where you could easily reduce the issue of weapons balance to points on a spreadsheet, defeating the issue of game design with the raw power of maths. Unfortunately we don't live in that world, as backed up by Fallout: New Vegas' director Josh Sawyer—who recently dispensed a grain of wisdom: Balancing is "mostly vibes based"... 5. Carceri is a fizzy and kaleidoscopic, first-person "chaotic Art-toy" in which you explore/hallucinate an island resort that's also a concentration camp ("carceri" is Italian for prison) for sentient computer programs. Out sometime in May, it's the work of James Beech, who describes himself as "an on-again, off-again AAA veteran" with credits on Metroid Prime 4, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Crysis 3. The environments take hefty influence from Carceri d'invenzione, a series of prints created in the 18th century by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, whose name has become a byword for impossible spaces. 6. Enlarge / Are you enticed by this kind of orderly madness with a clean graphical layout? Then I suggest you… settle in. (credit: Goblinz Studio) [/url] You can't buy Mini Settlers right now, but I think you should play the free "Prologue" demo and wishlist the full game if you dig it. It's not quite like any other city builder I've played. Mini Settlers is "mini" like minimalism. It is in the same genre, but quite far from, games like Cities: Skylines 2 (a choice with some proven merit). Your buildings are not 3D-rendered with real-time lighting. Your buildings are ******** squares, sometimes with a few disc tokens stacked on them, tabletop-style. Your roads don't have traffic, but they have drivers (tiny squares) that take resources between nodes. When things go wrong, you don't get depressing news about pollution and riots; some people just leave their homes, but they'll come back if you fix what's wrong. [Hidden Content] Mini Settlers announcement video. Mini Settlers is not the game to play to satisfy your long-running suspicion that urban planning was your missed calling. In the (non-progress-saving) Prologue-free demo out this week, the mines and quarries have infinite resources. There is no "money" to speak of, so far as I can tell. Apple farms must be placed near apple orchards and water pumps by water, and the rest is up to you. The interface looks like a thought experiment in how far you can get from traditional city sim HUDs, but then someone implemented it. Read 6 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article
  7. The kids today might be all about their Helldivers 2 premium warbonds and tactical strikes, but back when me and the boys were defending earth against giant insects, all we had were massive riot shields and miniguns, and by jove, we made do. Never speak to me about Terminids. If you can’t finish your truck-sized ants here on earth, don’t even think about asking for bizarre interstellar insectoids to *****. Anyway, good news for me and the proverbial boys, because multiplayer sci-fi anti-ant shooter Earth Defense Force 6 is dropping on July 25th, 2024. Read more View the full article
  8. From Software boss Hidetaka Miyazaki has ruled out making a second Elden Ring expansion, but left the door open for a potential sequel. In an interview with ******** site Zhihu, Miyazaki said the company has no plans for further DLC beyond the game’s first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which will be released in June. He said the company would rather release one major expansion than split additional content into several parts, which would reduce the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure the game offers. 9. Current world champions T1 secured their spot in the MSI Bracket stage after serving FlyQuest with the fastest best-of-three of League of Legends competitive international history. T1, with their status as reigning world champions, entered the series as favorites, while FlyQuest aimed to prove their mettle on the international stage. The eagerly anticipated match brought historical rivalries to the MSI stage with the match up in the mid lane between Jensen and Faker, and some new ones too, like Massu’s head-to-head against one of his idols, Gumayusi. 10. Players are about to get a new influx of free Primogems in Genshin Impact if new leaks about Version 4.7 are correct. At the moment, the popular RPG by HoYoverse is in the early stages of Version 4.6. The current patch added a load of content, including new Character Quests, as well as an area to the southern reaches of Fontaine. Of course, the most notable aspect of the current update is the introduction of the playable version of Arlecchino in Genshin Impact, which had long been awaited. View the full article
  11. Whether or not you also play on PS5, your Helldivers 2 Steam account must now be linked to the PlayStation Network, and the deadline to make the change will arrive soon. Until now, Arrowhead and Sony have allowed players to access the PC version of HD2 without any linking, but now confirm that the initial "grace *******" for Helldivers 2 Steam accounts is coming to a close. 13. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will receive its final update this month as developer ArtPlay finally adds all the additional features promised in its Kickstarter Campaign from 2015. ArtPlay shared its final development roadmap for Bloodstained on its website which confirmed the update would arrive May 9, 2024 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, while the Nintendo Switch version would arrive May 16. "This will be the final update to the game," Artplay said. Bringing Bloodstained to version 1.5, the update is headlined by the additions of Chaos Mode and Versus Mode but also includes four cosmetic packs for protagonist Miriam, one of which is free while the other three can be purchased. Chaos Mode is akin to rush mode in other games where players, either alone or with an online or local companion, ****** through a series of randomized enemies which will grow stronger unless certain challenges are complete. Versus Mode pits two players directly against each other as both work to defeat enemies, power up their tools, and acquire special attacks to use against their opponent. Each must survive as long as possible, with whoever ***** last being crowned the winner. ArtPlay said that, once this update has been released, its only remaining task is to ship physical PC versions of the game, nine years after backers paid for them. The developer assured that these players received their digital editions upon launch in 2019, of course, but were still awaiting their full Kickstarter backers' reward. Coming from former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi and pitched as a spiritual successor, Bloodstained quickly smashed past its Kickstarter goal and received more than $5.5 million in total funding. This made it the most successful video game Kickstarter ever at the time. ArtPlay confirmed a full sequel to Bloodstained was in early development as of June 2021, but little has been said about it in the near three years since. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article
  14. If there's one thing that'll rile people up more than a ****** blasting them with a laser cannon, it's having to create a new account. That's something Helldivers 2 players will have to do pretty sharpish, as Arrowhead announce mandatory account linking between Steam and Playstation Network. Why? Safety and security apparently. 15. Nintendo has managed to take down 8,535 GitHub repositories containing code from Switch emulator Yuzu with a single DMCA notice. Yup, after reaching a settlement with Tropic Haze, the company behind the emulator, the process of totally scrubbing any clones or copies of it from the net is in full swing. If you're out of the loop the company behind that plumber and the little pink blob's decision to sue Yuzu's creators in court earlier this year quickly resulted in a decision in Nintendo's favour that meant Tropic Haze had to pay the publisher $2.4 million of “monetary relief”. It was also barred from offering or promoting Yuzu or its source code going forwards - leading to the emulator being "discontinued, effectively immediately". Now, as reported by TorrentFreak, Nintendo lodged a DMCA notice with GitHub - a platform that allows lots of developers to store and share code - eariler this week, and it's resulted in a lot of Yuzu respositories being taken down. 16. Crossover fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite first sauntered onto various videogaming mechanisms back in 2017. We forgot to review it. Oops. But others did, sometimes complaining about the art style, which was a chunky and plastic-looking departure from previous games in the series. It's now six years later but at least one person has not forgotten this missed opportunity. A fighting game modder has been tinkering with shaders to bring the comic book style of previous games to Infinite. Looks cool. Read more View the full article
  17. Fortnite leaks keep coming in light of the new Star Wars update, and this one points towards a potential collaboration with X-Men 97 in patch v29.40. The latest ***** from iFireMonkey on May 3 revealed new Fortnite Item Shop tabs that feature X-Men alongside Star Wars, Loki, Goalbound, and a few more. While we don’t know which exact X-Men skins are coming to Fortnite, previous leaks hint they could be a wave of outfits connected to the new X-Men 97 animated show. View the full article
  18. If Fortnite’s Waterbending technique constantly melted you in your matches, and you thought the Star Wars update would mean the end of its *******, well, think again because prominent leaker iFiremonkey has confirmed the mythic will stay until the season’s end. The leaker further confirmed that all Avatar mythics will be vaulted with the arrival of the Star Wars event in Fortnite on May 3, except Waterbending. Seasonal Greek mythics like Zeus Lightning Bolt, Chain of Hades, and Wings of Icarus are also getting added to Fortnite’s loot pool. View the full article
  19. Good news, people whose day-to-day lives are woefully short on blingy Clancified squad-murdering. Ubisoft's elusive free-to-play shooter XDefiant finally has a release date, 21st May 2024. Or at least, that's when the preseason launches, providing six weeks of access to the modes, maps and factions from last month's server test. Read more View the full article
  20. Fabledom somehow passed me by, but ***** if it isn't leaving early access in about a week and a half. May 13th (unlucky for some) will see this fairytale kingdom city builder launch into 1.0, after a comparatively short but successful early access run on Steam. It looks very sweet, and reminds me of a kind of Foundation meets Lakeburg Legacies - at least based on the trailer, which puts an emphasis on it ***** back and idyllic citybuilding, and love. 21. Happy May 3rd, Battlestar Galactica fans! Remember what John Dune said about living long and prospering? He said: Oh, look, objectively excellent dogfighter Star Wars: Squadrons is under two quid on Steam. As Edwin pointed out to me, that’s about the price of a third of latte, although he does pay London prices. Also, Edwin, are you going around trying to buy the dregs of people’s lattes? 23. Riot Games has finally rolled out its Vanguard anti-cheat to League of Legends. In the wake of this update, various users have expressed concerns and shared negative technical experiences, with some claiming the update has bricked their PCs. In response, Riot has come out publically and stood by the implementation, pointing to a relatively miniscule number of these reports against the total player base, and identifying key causes and fixes. Vanguard - a kernel level anti-cheat - has proven controversial since its implimentation into Riot Games' FPS Valorant back in 2020. These concerns range from privacy isses, as it not only has access to the most authoratitive layer of your operating system, but also takes screenshots of your game to ensure you're not using any pesky cheats. As a kernel level bit of software that's always running, it's also put a toll on players' older machines with its high CPU usage. With that context, we can look back to this week's eruption from parts of the League of Legends community. As soon as the Vanguard patch went live, reports on social media popped up pointing to bricked PCs, and noting that those playing on Virtual Machines (including Nvidia Now) or those without UEFI or TPM2.0 enabled on their PCs weren't having it function properly. 24. Fortnite leaks are all over the place this morning, and while we expected a lot of Star Wars content, we were not expecting new My Hero Academia skins to appear, let alone three of the biggest villains in the series. As part of today’s leaks, files have been found for the villains Dabi, Tomura Shigaraki, and Himiko Toga, alongside a series of recognizable pickaxes and back blings from the show. For the eagle-eyed fans, you might also be able to see a small Nomu back bling, which is the same Nomu All Might faced off against in the first few episodes of the anime, just on a smaller scale this time around.
