There’s a long bridge through the middle of the map, and you cannot obtain the Prism Lass from the east side. The new offshoot series set in The Office universe (whatever that entails) is now a go at Peacock, and its premise sounds really good, actually. Expectations weren't exactly low, given that The Office creator Greg Daniels and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman were involved, but looking at the mid quality of some recent TV revivals quickly put together to boost streaming offerings, it's reasonable to stay cautious. Now, with the first-ever premise details out in the wild and the initial pitch quickly moving forward, plus a couple of great leads, we're starting to feel pretty good about this one. Via Deadline, the official press release from Peacock and Universal Television confirms the series will start ********* as soon as this July. More importantly, a strong connection to the original (US) show has been confirmed through the plot synopsis: "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters." ********* game company Capcom has reported record sales and predicted even ******* returns are to come, with big hitter Monster Hunter Wilds waiting in the wings. Capcom sold 45.89 million units of video games during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, a record for the long-running company behind the likes of Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. Net sales were up 21% year-on-year, and profit was up 18.1%. Capcom said it achieved this result off the back of the release of Street Fighter 6 in June 2023 and Dragon’s Dogma 2 in March 2024. Street Fighter 6 has now sold 3.3 million units, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 has shifted 2.62 million. Both games, as well as continued sales of older games, made for record-high net sales, the seventh consecutive year of record-high profit at all levels, and Capcom’s 11th consecutive year of operating income growth. In its forecast for the current financial year ending March 2025, Capcom predicted even ******* sales and profits, which would result in 12 consecutive years of operating income growth and eight consecutive years of record high profit at all levels. Capcom has Monster Hunter Wilds due out at some point in 2025, and is heavily rumored to be preparing Resident Evil 9, the next mainline Resident Evil game, for release during this financial year. Capcom’s success comes during one of the toughest times for the video game industry in recent memory, with a number of high-profile studio closures, thousands of job losses, and a raft of canceled projects. Just this week, Microsoft announced the closure of Hi-Fi Rush studio Tango Gameworks and Redfall developer Arkane Austin as part of deep cuts at ZeniMax, with the warning that more is to come. PlayStation maker Sony has made cuts of its own, as has a long list of publishers and developers. Capcom, however, appears to be enjoying perhaps its most successful ******* ever. Just last month, Capcom announced plans to pay out more money to its shareholders after the breakout success of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which sold 2.5 million copies across PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S in just 11 days. To put Dragon’s Dogma 2’s sales into context, it took the first Dragon’s Dogma game a month to sell 1.05 million units after it went on ***** at the end of May 2012, a tally Capcom declared a success at the time. Capcom’s best-selling game of all-time is 2018’s Monster Hunter World, which has shifted just shy of 20 million units. The company will be hoping to repeat the trick when Monster Hunter Wilds goes on ***** next year. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. Microsoft's decision to close several development studios, such as Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and more, has generally been met with a big thumbs-down online. Tango was responsible for break-out hit Hi-Fi Rush in 2023, a game considered one of the best on Xbox in recent years, and went on to win a BAFTA for Animation. Hi-Fi Rush is still available on Xbox Game Pass, or you can purchase it digitally at a discount right now. It's 35% off via the Microsoft Store, down to $19.49 (or equivalent in your region). This is the lowest price we've ever seen the game drop to on Xbox. Hi-Fi Rush is also a part of the Humble Choice Bundle for May, alongside Yakuza Like A Dragon, Steel Rising, and more. You can join Humble Choice for $11.99/month (£8.99/month for the ***), collecting all these PC games to keep permanently, and you can skip a month or cancel anytime. To top things off, each code included is for Steam. Both developers and fans have shared their disappointment at the studio closures at Microsoft. Announced to staff via email on the morning of May 7, 2024. Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt ****** told employees of the studios, which joined Microsoft under Bethesda parent company ZeniMax, the cuts were a result of the "reprioritization of titles and resources." "This is absolutely terrible," wrote Arkane Lyon director Dinga Bakaba on X/Twitter, whose studio survived the closures and will continue working on Marvel's Blade. "To any executive reading this: friendly reminder that video games are an entertainment and cultural industry, and your business as a corporation is to take care of your artists and entertainers and help them create value for you." Microsoft acquired ZeniMax in 2021 for $7.5 billion and with it came Bethesda studios such as Arkane, Tango Gameworks, and Alpha Dog Games. Its acquisition streak reached new heights in 2023 with the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which finally went through in October 2023, just six months before it closed these other studios. Xbox also announced The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios would absorb Roundhouse Studios, but the other Bethesda teams would be unaffected. Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 developer Bethesda Game Studios, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle developer Machine Games, ***** developer id Software, and the aforementioned Marvel's Blade developer Arkane Lyon are all unaffected. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has released the Polar Patriots Premium Warbond as planned after the boss of the studio polled fans on whether it should go ahead so soon after what he called “negative sentiment” over the game’s PlayStation Network account linking. Sony’s controversial decision to force Helldivers 2 PC gamers to account link to PlayStation Network saw the game’s Steam user review rating collapse from ‘overwhelmingly positive’ to ‘mostly negative’ after over 200,000 negative reviews flooded Valve’s platform. The sheer volume of negative reviews left in such a short space of time caused Johan Pilestedt, boss of developer Arrowhead, to tweet: “Ouch, right in the review score.” Sony subsequently U-turned on its decision, but Pilestedt has admitted Arrowhead must now rebuild trust with its community. Overnight, Pilestedt polled his Twitter followers asking if Arrowhead should go ahead and release the Warbond following recent events. “With the negative sentiment around account linking, a concern from the team came up about 'is it tone deaf to release a new (paid) warbond this soon?' and therefore we are putting it to a real vote in true democratic fashion,” he tweeted. “So please guide us, would you rather have the new Warbond: Polar Patriots.” Two options were given: Release Tomorrow or Delay Release. Release Tomorrow won out, with over 70% of the vote, and today, May 9, it has launched. Thank you everybody for your contribution. Democracy has spoken! — Pilestedt (@Pilestedt) May 9, 2024 The release of the Premium Warbond comes after a difficult couple of weeks for Arrowhead, which has run up against publisher and Helldivers IP owner Sony over the proposed PSN account link mandate and fought to keep its vocal ********* fans on-side. Some Arrowhead staff had voiced their displeasure at the news, with statements made on the Helldivers Discord pored over by the game’s community. View the full article

Climate change is very much real and we're constantly feeling its effects even if we're not paying much attention to it right now due to, uh, more pressing real-world matters. Anyway, with this conversation being relevant once again and other genre fare not performing as well as it used to, it only makes sense that Hollywood is bringing big-budget disaster movies back, and Twisters looks like a decent return to form. Marketing for this one has been swirling up for a while, but now Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. International are putting the pedal to the metal, as the movie drops on July 19, which is closer than most people realize. While we're currently looking at Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Furiosa: A **** Max Saga, Twisters and more popcorn flicks should be ruling the proper summer season. Of course, a return to disaster movies isn't a surefire hit, no matter how stunning the CG spectacle and real-life locations look, so Universal and Amblin were smart enough to juice the sequel-reboot (no one really knows for sure) up with a star-studded cast that includes Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), Anthony Ramos (In the Heights), Glen Powell (Top ****: Maverick), David Corenswet (James Gunn's Superman), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Katy O'Brian (Love ***** Bleeding), among others. Like us, you’re probably still reeling from Tuesday’s news that Hi-Fi Rush studio Tango and Prey’s Arkane Austin are getting shuttered by Microsoft. ZeniMax studios seem to be the main target. Read more View the full article

Head of Xbox, Matt ******, expressed during an internal town hall meeting that the company wants "smaller games that give us prestige and awards". This comes following the closure of several Microsoft-owned developers including Tango Gameworks - which created a smaller award winning game last year. This information comes via a report by Ash Parrish at The Verge, who revealed information on this meeting overnight. Hi-Fi Rush - a game that apparently was successful "across all key measurements" according to Xbox's VP of video game marketing Aaron Greenburg - seemingly fits that description but was not safe from widespread cuts. The last few days have been a PR nightmare for Microsoft. Not only does this mark the second time in the company's history that they've fumbled ********* studios - sending an accidental message that they're not the company for gamers who enjoy ********* games - but it paints the company as short-sighted. Tango Gameworks was a relatively small studio based in Japan - existing at a time when the ********* Yen is at a historic low relative to the US Dollar. Cheap, small, and great. On April 26, Counter-Strike 2 players started witnessing a new VAC ban wave with Valve targeting hundreds of cheaters. By May 8, tens of thousands of cheaters had apparently been banned. In the span of almost two weeks, the ban wave has eliminated “at least 26,000 accounts,” according to CS2stats. The website shared detailed information about the bans with CS2 content creator Gabe Follower, who posted it on X. It turns out most were VAC bans, but there were a few game bans in the mix. With confirmation that the successor to the Nintendo Switch is rapidly approaching, hardware leaks have fans more excited than ever for the new hybrid console—as it might be more powerful than many players were expecting. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced on May 7 that the Nintendo Switch’s “successor” will be shared within this fiscal year, meaning before March 31, 2025. In the following earnings call, he also noted that the proper way to refer to Nintendo’s upcoming console is “Switch next model,” showing that it should be something similar with multiple layers of improvements that will be announced soon. Until then, however, we have more hardware leaks showing the Switch successor might actually turn into a Super Switch, with specs rivaling lower-end hardware in the current console generation. Xbox seems to be on board with focusing more on smaller games, but the timing couldn’t be more ironic with the closure of a successful Microsoft studio. The head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt ******, spoke to employees on May 8, saying, “We need smaller games that give us prestige and awards,” according to The Verge. Initially, this sounds great because who doesn’t love small games? After all, we saw the recent success of Tango Gameworks’ small rhythm action game, Hi-Fi RUSH, which claimed multiple awards, and it’d be awesome if Xbox put out more small and charming games like that. Coincidentally, Tango Gameworks was among the four game studios shut down by Microsoft just a day before ******’s statement. View the full article
