What makes a great roguelike? Difficulty is one thing. You want every run, every ******, and every victory to feel like they mean something. Variety is important, too. Builds should be extensive and customizable, mobs and upgrades should change on each attempt, and if there's a range of fresh environments and types of dungeons, that's a huge bonus. FTL, ***** Cells, and of course Hades 2 typify the best of the genre, but another amazing roguelike has just hit 1.0, and is even playable, start to finish, completely free. It has outstanding reviews - but somehow fewer than 300 players. Read the rest of the story... View the full article
One of the oldest, most peculiar inside jokes in League of Legends might help explain why Jax pursues a career as a fisherman in an alternate reality. In a thread posted to the League subreddit earlier this week, players collectively came to the realization as to why Jax has a talent for fishing and why the Angler Jax skin even exists to begin with. It doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense on the surface why Jax would be directed toward fishing, but the original poster of the Reddit thread, a user named DerFuro, pointed at one of the champion’s most iconic quotes as a reason why. World of Warcraft[/i]'s networking code infringes on a patent originally filed by Boeing."> Enlarge / Acceleration Bay says World of Warcraft's networking code infringes on a patent originally filed by Boeing. (credit: Activision Blizzard) [/url] A jury has found Activision Blizzard liable for $23.4 million in damages in a patent infringement lawsuit first brought to court in 2015. The case centers on patents first filed by Boeing in 2000, one that describes a "distributed game environment" across a host and multiple computers and another that describes a simple method for disconnecting from such a network. Those patents were acquired in 2015 by Acceleration Bay, which accused Activision Blizzard of using infringing technology to develop World of Warcraft and at least two Call of Duty titles. Those accusations succeeded in court earlier this week, as a jury found a "preponderance of evidence" that the patents were infringed. The decision came following a one-week trial in which Activision Blizzard argued that its networking technology works differently from what is described in the patents, as reported by Reuters. Blade Runner 2099 might still be a bit of a mysterious project, but it's just cast Michelle Yeoh in a lead role, so I'm already sold on it. Back in 2022, Amazon started development on a Blade Runner sequel series, and since then we haven't heard much else about it. Silka Louisa, who served as a supervising producer and writer on Paramount's Halo, is currently slated to write and run the show, with the original film's director Ridley Scott set to executive produce via Scott Free Productions. And now, as reported by Variety, we have an idea of who to expect in the series: Michelle Yeoh. The iconic actor has apparently been tapped to play the lead, a character by the name of Olwen, who is reportedly described as a replicant near the end of her life. Variety writes that Amazon declined to comment on specific character details, so maybe take it with a small pinch of salt in case it turns out to be wrong/ the writers change course on the idea at some point. There still aren't any specific plot details, but with the combination of Yeoh as the lead, and the potential direction her character is heading in, I'm definitely interested in checking it out. Yeoh is easily one of the best in the biz, having appeared in classics like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and finally nabbing an Oscar from her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once last year. Nintendo says there are more than 150 time-based challenges spread across the included games, and the collection will include a single-player mode and local multiplayer with support for up to...
