"Don't shoot! I'm friendly!" Bang. Welcome to ARC Raiders, the post-apocalyptic world overrun by AI where some people are gathering wires and bits of plastic while others are bloodthirsty murderers trying to take everything you have. Image via Embark Studios The latest and hottest extraction shooter of the moment has been the talk of gamers across the internet since launching last week, but the very nature of the PvPvE title has caused quite a bit of debate among those who've hopped online. ARC Raiders' more casual-friendly vibe has attracted quite a bit of new players to the genre, myself included, who are pacifistic when it comes to playing in solo activities and trying to complete quests given by NPCs. That's no doubt done a lot to popularize it, but it's also caused some controversies. A good amount of players who enjoy the extraction genre play it for the PvP, which leads to a lot of encounters where others will shoot enemies on sight without using their microphones or trying to hear a case being plead. The game has a built-in "don't shoot" emote and voice line, and it's everywhere in solos as Raiders go from one area to the next, trying to find whatever they need for a quest or upgrades. But at the same time, PvP is just part of this genre's whole hook. It's going to happen. Sometimes it really sucks when it does, especially when you have valuable loot or are on a fetch quest that takes time to complete, but the game is built to be this way. I can sympathize with some players who are annoyed by those who won't even hold a conversation and just want to gun people down, but at the same time, you kind of have to expect it. I also think that some of the PvP-centric players who thrive on ruining other players' experiences could let their foot off the gas a little bit as opposed to just actively trying to troll others. Will they? I doubt it. I've been on both ends of ARC Raiders *******, and I've felt angered when taken out but also guilty and/or satisfied when beating someone else in a fight. And that's part of what makes the game so special. A good amount of my fun so far in ARC Raiders has been working together with other players, helping them fight ARCs who are overwhelming them, or even placing down a Zipline so someone can get to where they need to be for a quest. But that's how I enjoy the game. I don't expect others to feel the same way. If they thrive on sniping other Raiders and taking their loot, then that's their prerogative, too. I get it, it sucks to lose your loot or have your progress halted. But as things currently stand, that's the nature of the extraction genre. It's you, versus the environment, versus other players. The game wouldn't be too much fun if EVERYONE was friendly all the time, would it? Image via Embark Studios I would not be against some sort of PvE-only mode or limited time experience where players could band together to take down massive ARCs in a Destiny 2 raid-like activity, eventually. But for now, every time you deploy into the wilderness topside, you're risking losing everything on your person and that's how the game should be. Where do you stand on this debate, dear reader? It's hard to believe it's been just one week since the game dropped, so I'm curious to see where this conversation heads over time. Let me know in the comments below, and I'll see you in the Rust Belt with my "don't shoot" emote as I try to find mushrooms for my chicken. Or maybe I'll be shooting you while I hide in a bush. It depends. The post Shoot-on-sight or friendly quester? ARC Raiders players can’t stop debating the ‘right’ way to play appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article

Microsoft has announced plans to put Halo Infinite into maintenance mode later this month so developer Halo Studios can focus on working on multiple new Halo games. In a blog post, Halo Studios said Operation: Infinite, due out November 18, is the last major update currently planned for the Xbox and PC first-person shooter, but insisted it will support players with challenges, ranked rewards, and community events throughout next year and beyond. Operation: Infinite’s free, 100-tier Operation Pass and 100-tier Premium Pass have no planned expiration date. One of the new Halo games Halo Studios is working on is Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is due out at some point in 2026 across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. Halo Studios did not say what the other upcoming Halo games are. “As we look back on four years of evolution and updates in Halo Infinite, we’d like to thank our community for your steadfast support,” Halo Studios said. “Without your feedback and enthusiasm, Halo Infinite multiplayer would not be the special place it is today: a robust arena for slaying and playing, with something for every Spartan. “With multiple Halo titles in development, we’ll need our whole team's combined focus to deliver new experiences with the same passion and care that our community has given us. While we remain committed to supporting Halo Infinite on the road ahead, Operation: Infinite is the last major content update currently planned.” Halo Studios, once called 343 Industries, leaves Halo Infinite behind four years after its delayed launch across Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC in December 2021. Microsoft had intended for it to be an Xbox Series X and S launch title and come out a year earlier, but pushed it back following negative feedback to a hotly anticipated gameplay reveal in July 2020. Halo Infinite went through significant changes in the years following its release, including the rebranding of its developer, 343 Industries, to Halo Studios, and multiple rounds of layoffs. This came after player numbers for Halo Infinite dropped off dramatically after launch as fans expressed frustration over a lack of content, poor progression systems, and aggressive monetization. A "game changer" battle royale mode was scrapped. Gamers are already pointing out that Halo Infinite hasn’t even managed to reach the halfway point of Microsoft’s well-documented 10-year plan for the game (it wasn’t called Halo: Infinite for nothing). In July 2020, IGN spoke with now former Halo Infinite Studio Head Chris Lee, who described Halo Infinite as “the start of our platform for the future.” “We want Infinite to grow over time, versus going to those numbered titles and having all that segmentation that we had before,” he continued. “It’s really about creating Halo Infinite as the start of the next 10 years for Halo and then building that as we go with our fans and community.” While continued updates have significantly improved the experience, Halo Infinite never quite managed to realize its potential. The focus now is on Halo: Campaign Evolved, although this, too, has suffered a bumpy ride since it was announced, with one of the key members of the original Halo development team at Bungie expressing concern about some of the changes made. After Rain Comes is a relatively simple quest in ARC Raiders, and you can complete it to earn more rewards. To begin the mission, you'll have to obtain it first from Celeste. The quest requires you to locate a particular item on the Buried City map. This guide will help you complete all the necessary steps of After Rain Comes. Find the flooded solar panels near the Grandioso ApartmentsRepair the solar panels using 5 Wires and 2 Batteries The first task is to reach the Gradioso Apartments in Buried City. The apartments are located in the southern part of the map, and I have marked the location. The main task isn't to find the Grandioso Apartments; it's to repair the solar panels at the location. The panels are situated on the right side of the building. In simple words, you will have to be at the marked location on the screenshot below. Screenshot and remix by Destructoid You'll find a series of solar panels on the ground, covered with sand. There's another set of panels with a yellow box under it. Finding these panels completes the first part of the task. Repairing the solar panels The next part of the quest requires fixing the panels. You're going to need the following resources. Five WiresTwo Batteries Once you start the repair process, these items will be consumed and gone from your inventory. To complete the quest quickly, it's best to bring the items with you when you're starting the quest. The only alternative is to loot the item. You can find both areas marked with an electrical icon on the map. Wires are relatively easy to find, while getting a battery can sometimes take more time. The Panel repair switch.
