Physical copies of*********'s Creed Shadows will require you you to be connected to the interent in order to install the game, but you'll be fine to play the game offline once that's done, Ubisoft has confirmed. Seriously, there's a statement formatted to match the game's colour scheme and everything. Following the game's reveal yesterday, it'd been spotted that boxed retail copies of Shadows came bearing the message that a net connection would be required to install the game. While that sucks on the preservation front, it has become a pretty regular state of play for plenty of big single player games nowadays, with Star Wars Outlaws being just one other title coming out soon that falls into the same boat. Responding to chatter about this, Ubisoft's now elected to put out a statement outlining the exact situation when it comes to Shadows and the net. "*********'s Creed Shadows will not require a mandatory connection at all times," the team behind the game writes. "An online connection will be needed to install the game, but you will be able to play the entire journey offline, and explore Japan without any online connection." Read more View the full article

The next game by Counter-Strike and Half Life developer Valve is a six-vs-six hero shooter named Deadlock, according to a purported *****. Valve has yet to hop back in to the hero shooter genre since Team Fortress 2, but that’s about to change, according to leaker @gabefollower on Twitter/X. The game is reportedly a competitive, third-person, hero-based shooter that has a “fantasy setting mixed with steampunk.” View the full article
Midwinter Entertainment's upcoming game, codenamed Project T, is a new take on the ***** by Daylight universe. It swaps out helpless survivors trying to fix generators for gritty trespassers fighting hordes of monsters off with guns, trucks, and just about anything you can get your hands on—it looks more like Left 4 ***** than anything we've seen in ***** by Daylight before... King Charles unveiled the first official portrait of himself since his coronation earlier this week, and uh, he only looks a little bit like an Elden Ring boss. I'm not quite sure who told the artist behind Charles' first portrait as King to make him look like he is engulfed in the flames of *****, but that's pretty much exactly how it came out. If the painting was of anyone other than a royal family member I'd honestly say it's pretty *****, *****, I'd love to be painted in a way that makes me look like a terrifying boss from a video game. It's just, when you're literally the king of England, well, in the first instance it might not be all that tonally appropriate, but you also best be prepared for people to take the p**s out of it. Which, of course, many quickly have, with several users online quickly pointing out how much it looks like a portrait from the Dishonored series. So, of course, someone has already modded Charlie's new portrait into Dishonored (thanks, PC Gamer). As demonstrated by Timo on YouTube, the mod in question just acts as a simple texture swap that replaces the Lord Regent's picture with King Charles'. Like many paintings in Dishonored, you can also nab it for yourself, though I'm not exactly sure if that counts as treason or not, so maybe it'd be better not to do so? Still, it's a good laugh for this week on the hellsit known as Twitter, certainly better than the usual faff people get up to. Read more View the full article

Microsoft's been having a bit of a nightmare recently with its Xbox gaming brand, not least because the mega-corp appears to have put its short-term blinkers on when it comes to turning a profit. Well, after all the fearmongering earlier in the year that every Xbox exclusive under the sun - including its most iconic IPs - would be heading to PlayStation was somewhat quelled by the publisher's top execs, it could very well still become a reality should Microsoft's top brass get its way. Medieval city builder Manor Lords is a smash hit, selling two million copies in just three weeks. Slavic Magic’s debut game launched on Steam priced $39.99 and straight into PC Game Pass in Early Access form on April 26. On Steam, the game is particularly well-received, with a ‘very positive’ user review rating. IGN’s Manor Lords Early Access review returned a 7/10. We said: “Manor Lords is a gorgeous medieval city-builder that kept me occupied for hours building my perfect, cozy hamlets, but it definitely feels very early in its Early Access development.” Publisher Hooded Horse said on Manor Lords’ opening weekend, the concurrent player count peaked at over 173,000 on Steam alone (the highest ever concurrent player count for a city builder on Valve’s platform), and the first one million sales were made by the next day. Since then, solo developer Greg Styczeń has been hard at work processing feedback from the player base, and the first patch recently went into open testing. “It’s been wonderful to see so many players give Manor Lords a try,” commented Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender. “We had some pretty optimistic expectations and even some wild hopes, but reaching two million copies on Manor Lords so quickly has exceeded even those.” "We had some pretty optimistic expectations and even some wild hopes, but reaching two million copies on Manor Lords so quickly has exceeded even those. The two million sales figure is across all platforms Manor Lords is sold on: PC via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, and comes despite its availability in the PC Game Pass subscription. The Japan-set *********'s Creed Shadows requires an internet connection to install but not to play after, Ubisoft has confirmed. In a post on X/Twitter, the publisher confirmed Shadows will follow a recent trend for ******* games where even the disc version requires an internet connection before play is possible. Shadows doesn't require an always-online connection, but does require the internet to essentially download part of the game upon install. "We wanted to share some early information on the upcoming launch of *********'s Creed Shadows, following some questions we've noticed in the community," Ubisoft said, addressing concerns raised after the PlayStation Store listed Shadows as an "online play required" game. "*********'s Creed Shadows will not require a mandatory connection at all times. An online connection will be needed to install the game, but will you be able to play the entire journey offline, and explore Japan without any online connection." The PlayStation Store listing has been changed to say "online play optional" despite the install requirement. Larger triple-A video games are slowly but surely transitioning to this method of distribution as physical media becomes a smaller and smaller part of how people buy games. With actual discs becoming less of a priority, what would once be included as a second disc (with an install disc and a play disc) is now essentially added as downloadable content. This means that even single-player games like *********'s Creed Shadows cannot exist without an internet connection. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was one of the first major single-player games to adopt this model, but the trend has continued elsewhere and will likely continue to become more common. Shadows was fully revealed on May 15, 2024 as a *********-set entry in the long-running franchise where players take control of two protagonists: the stealthy shinobi Naoe and the action-orientated Yasuke, who's a real figure from ********* history. IGN had a wealth of exclusive content on the reveal, and you can read about all the gameplay changes, story beats, and open-world assassinating coming with Shadows in our extensive interview with the development team. If that's not enough, check our analysis and explanation of where and when Shadows is set and 40 key details we've learned about the game. Shadows launches November 12, 2024 for those buying the Gold, Ultimate, or Deluxe Editions at $109.99, $129.99, and $279.99 respectively. The standard $69.99 version is available on November 15, 2024. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article
Activision has announced the formation of Elsewhere Entertainment, a new studio it says will focus on developing a "narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise." Elsewhere Entertainment, which is based in Warsaw, is Activision's second Polish studio after the Krakow-based Infinity Ward Poland. The studio has been working behind the scenes up until now, and this is its first public unveiling. According to the blog post revealing the new studio, Elsewhere Entertainment's team includes "storytelling experts" who have previously worked on franchises including The Last of Us, Uncharted, The Witcher, Cyberpunk, Destiny, The Division, and Far Cry. It is currently recruiting developers in hopes of creating a "state-of-the-art and next-generation gaming experience," which IGN understands is not a Call of Duty-related project. Little else is known about Elsewhere Entertainment's first franchise, though the post does mention that the studio hopes to "craft a franchise with an enduring legacy that resonates far beyond games." That would seem to point to a transmedia franchise that will try to replicate the success of The Last of Us and Fallout, or maybe just get its own theme park. To this point, Activision has mostly been known for its work on the Call of Duty series, with ****** Bandicoot developer Toys for Bob opting to go independent following the Xbox acquisition. In addition to the ****** Bandicoot games, Activision Publishing has also released Sekiro: Shadows **** Twice and Destiny. Elsewhere Entertainment's opening stands out in an industry that has lately been rocked by layoffs. Last week, Activision Blizzard parent company Microsoft closed multiple studios including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin. Activision Blizzard was also impacted by layoffs in the early part of 2024, with Blizzard being particularly affected. It's unclear when Elsewhere Entertainment's game will be released, though based on existing development timelines it's likely to be a few years yet. In the meantime, Activision appears to be preparing to reveal the next Call of Duty at next month's Xbox Showcase, which is set for June 9.
