  1. When they first released, the Mega Hyper Rare cards from the Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution expansion were absolutely unstoppable. Available in only, approximately, one in every 1,260 booster packs, any Mega Lucario ex, or Gardevoir ex cards in this stark yellow art treatment are worth significantly more than their weight in gold. Now, while these cards remain incredibly valuable, their prices aren't quite as bank busting as they were initially. Let's talk about it... Read the rest of the story... 3. Path of Exile 1, the 12-year-old revolutionary free-to-play ARPG, is leagues above its own successor, having six times its concurrent players. The sequel, currently in early access, is actively bleeding players as development grinds away slowly ahead of the full release. According to SteamDB, the original Path of Exile has around 115,000 concurrent players on Steam, with the sequel hovering around 20,000 during peak hours. The former recently received a new expansion, Keepers of the Flame, which launched on Oct. 31 and immediately drew in tons of players, propelling the game from an average peak of 10,000 to over 185,000 players. It's the first proper expansion in a long while and a major show of appreciation for GGG's original title, which many feared would be sidelined in favor of Path of Exile 2. While on the topic of PoE 2, the game has been in early access for almost a year now, but instead of spending a planned six months in development before its full, free-to-play release, it has been in early access for, well, almost 12. The last major update was patch 0.3, which added tons of new content and saw the game soar to over 300,000 peak players, but they quickly abandoned ship as content ran out. PoE 2 needs to hurry up and give us MORE. Image via Grinding Gears Games/X Ever since the patch in September, PoE 2 has been steadily declining over the months, with many likely opting to return to the much more content-rich PoE 1 and its new expansion. We're a month away from the first anniversary of PoE 2's launch, which will hopefully be a major milestone that will see the release of patch 0.4, but we'll likely have to wait until 2026 for that to happen. PoE 2 is an amazing game by all accounts, but I cannot say that the slow development hasn't driven me away from it. I bought in on launch day and played as much as I could, but the three acts available then ran out quickly and left me yearning for more. Bits and crumbs did come our way, including a fourth Act, but it's simply not enough, and I hope to see GGG pick up the pace and make PoE 2 into the giant ARPG masterpiece it's meant to be. In the meantime, it seems I and many others have another thing to play. For free, mind you. 5. Quests are the best way to progress in ARC Raiders. Whereas you can set goals for yourself on every trip topside, quests give you a proper sense of purpose and are a great avenue to unveiling more details about the game's unique story and world. But not every mission is made equal, and some can and will confuse players. One of those assignments is the A Lay of the Land quest issued by Shani that requires you to visit a few locations, check out a couple hidden places, and extract with an item, all in one round. So, if you felt stuck, here's what you ought to do. A Lay of the Land ARC Raiders quest walkthrough These are the locations you need to visit for this quest. Screenshot by Destructoid A Lay of the Land takes place on the Spaceport map and is a multi-assignment quest. Each of its parts has to be completed in the same round, and you'll even have to survive (or put the quest item in your safe pocket) to meet all the prerequisites for turning it in. These are all the steps you need to do to clear this quest: Go to the Jiangsu Warehouse in the Northwest part of the map. On the second floor, there is an office space where you need to go to find the shipping notes in the foreman's office. The notes are on a desk by the office's windows.Next, go to the Control Tower A6 zone, located just beneath the Launch Towers. Climb to the upper floors and find the ruined office area, then go to the bottom left side of the room and find the LiDAR Scanners on the ground behind a couple of office dividers. Extract from the match with the item either by surviving or carrying it in your safe pocket. This last bit is a mandatory requirement of the quest, so I suggest taking an Augment with you that contains safe pocket space, which will ensure you extract with the quest item no matter what happens. The world is cruel, and many players shoot on sight, so save yourself the trouble of repeating this whole quest by equipping the proper Augment. 7. Rather than opting for passive abilities that upgrade on their own or short-term perks for each raider in games like Escape From Tarkov and Hunt Showdown, respectively, ARC Raiders takes a unique approach by offering a long-term customizable skill tree. With ARC Raiders' progression system only offering 75 skill points out of its total of 135 available, there is a lot more room for error that can cause plenty of headaches later on. 8. Paradox Interactive has done it. I can't say it did it "again," because it usually botches every single launch and release and forces us to wait for years until its game becomes "good." But EU5 is the exception, and its overwhelming launch-day content makes it PDX's finest release. I've already put in some 10 or so hours into the game, starting as Holland with a few ducats and a dream to one day unite the Lowlands into the glorious Dutch Republic. The road there was going to be tough, I knew as much from my thousands of hours in Europa Universalis 4. But what I was not prepared for in the slightest was the immense and overwhelming complexity of EU5's new and detailed systems, which were nautical miles above what its predecessor had. The first few hours saw me staring at screens I had no clue about. Pops were demanding various resources, food was nowhere to be seen, and I kept losing money but knew not where it was going. It was chaotic, disorganized, complicated, but that's precisely what invited me to dig deeper, try harder, and eventually turn this small county into a colonial powerhouse. You tell me what the hell is going on here. Screenshot by Destructoid I had to figure out how to manage supply and demand, listen to the parliament for once, and learn how to even conquer a province that I needed for my ultimate goal. Everything I knew in the thousands of hours spent with other Paradox games was out the window and had to be relearned, reconfigured. It took a while, but I managed it, and once I got the hang of the countless systems that were more Victoria than Europa Universalis, things started to really "click" for me. My country suddenly expanded, Holland was now a Duchy, the first expeditions to Terra Nullius were sent, and before I knew it I was in control of the Netherlands, but still far from a republic. It's an incredibly challenging game, one that tests your very understanding of grand strategies and has so much content on launch that it puts most other PDX releases to shame, even with all their DLCs. The base game here is as wide as the Atlantic Ocean you so desperately wish to cross in search of better fortunes, and deeper than the greatest mines of gold of the New World. A fantastic, demanding, and incredibly fun experience that took the simplified base of Europa Universalis 4 and sprinkled in just the right amount of CK and Victoria into it. Johan, you mad lad, you've outdone yourself. Paradox Tinto has set a new precedent for the company, and every time a new grand strategy launches, we'll be looking back to EU5 as the new baseline. The post I have no idea what I’m doing in Europa Universalis 5—and that’s what makes it Paradox’ finest appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  9. Back in 2012, Kosmos published the cooperative strategy board game Legends of Andor. In this dice rolling fantasy adventure, players embark on a quest to save the titular kingdom of Andor.
