  1. The upcoming first-person RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed, has seemingly had its release date leaked by none other than Obsidian itself. After showcasing the game at the Xbox Games Showcase yesterday, the studio didn’t announce a release date but apparently leaked it in a follow-up blog post. The post appeared on Obsidian’s website and blog before being altered. It seemingly confirmed Avowed’s release date as Nov. 12, according to screenshots of the blog taken by Twitter/X user HazzadorGamin on June 10. Avowed recently had its story trailer feature as part of the massive Xbox Games Showcase, which did imply that the game would be launching later this year. But there was no precise date set during the showcase, and it appears the developers initially wanted to include one but changed their minds for whatever reason. The post is still up but, like the showcase, features no concrete release date. View the full article
  2. Another new Memory of Chaos phase is now live in Honkai Star Rail, and A Song’s True Theme changes things up from the recent challenges that Trailblazers have faced in the Forgotten Hall. This MOC phase focuses heavily on Break Effect, giving a chance for new 5-stars like Boothill and Harmony Trailblazer to shine. 3. We've just gotten a fresh look at Star Wars Outlaws ahead of its arrival of August 30, via some more gameplay shown during tonight's Ubisoft Forward showcase. Kay Vess' space scoundrel story was one of the three big headliners, alongside *********'s Creed Shadows and XDefiant, advertised ahead of time for this year's Ubisoft Forward showcase, having popped up during Friday's Summer Game Fest show with quick teaser basically designed to whet your appetite to see more today. So, what did we get tonight? Well, some fresh gameplay showing Kay Vess and her erstwhile partner, Nix, wandering around an amazing-looking hub. It's all got a very lived-in vibe – none of that open, quite bland stuff you tend to see in some of the blander Far Cry entries (and I'm saying that as some that loves Far Cry – Dom). 4. After more than a year of legal battles and absence, Dark and Darker has finally found its way back to the biggest PC platform, Steam. The game’s return was long-awaited—but not so warmly welcomed—as players are now review-******** it for its “misleading” free-to-play model. Dark and Darker was brought back to Steam on June 7, after the developers announced its re-release during this year’s Summer Game Fest. It launched as a free-to-play, early-access title, granting players the opportunity to give the game a few spins before upgrading to the real deal. But many players believe this way of “demoing” the game is misleading, and they have been giving the game a thumbs down on Steam for days, pushing it to a “Mixed” review rating on Valve’s storefront. It’s such a convoluted moment that one review claimed the game should’ve just released with its usual $30 price tag and it would’ve all been smooth sailing from there. 23. Magic: The Gathering is a notoriously complex game, filled with innumerable cards that have unique properties, effects, and strategic uses. As such, it's become a target for AI and computational research - just as everything from chess to StarCraft II has in the past. Now, researchers have determined that Magic is just too complicated for computers to solve. A recent research paper "establishes that Magic: The Gathering is the most computationally complex real-world game known in the literature." The researchers include board game designer Alex Churchill, Georgia Institute of Technology researcher Stella Biderman, and senior analyst of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Budget Model Austin Herrick. The results conclude that "finding the best move in a game of Magic, in the worst case, cannot be computed," as Churchill tells Kotaku. "There are certain circumstances, even though they're very contrived, where it's proven that no algorithm can find whether there exists a winning move." Instead, there are certain circumstances in which a computer algorithm would never be able to complete its calculation about which move would be the optimal next play. Read the rest of the story...
