As part of yesterday's Xbox Showcase - which also offered us a first proper look at the Shattered Space expansion - Starfield also got a pretty substantial update right away. While the fact it's come with the release of the game's long-awaited Creation Kit for modders has gone down well, one thing that's drawn a bit of a mixed reaction from players is the decision to make one of the Trackers Alliance quests paid Creation Club content. First of all, let's be very clear about what exactly is going on here. A big part of Starfield’s June update are some new bounty hunting missions and mechanics. The first of these missions - which sets you up as a bounty hunter - and all of the new features like the bounty scanner system and Elite Trackers Alliance mission board are available for free as part of the update. So, what are some players not happy about? Well, the second Trackers Alliance bounty hunting quest available as part of the update - The Vulture - isn't just included as part of the free update. It's instead being sold via the Creation Club storefront that's also been added to the game as part of this update, for a price of 700 credits. Read more View the full article

Avowed got another look-in at the Xbox Games Showcase last night, albeit without a release date - though Obsidian might have accidentally shared it afterwards. There were plenty of games with release dates shown off yesterday at Xbox's latest showcase, but Avowed wasn't one of them. It was a bit surprising, given that Obsidian is still promising a 2024 release date, and given we're about halfway through the year now, I would have expected at least a release month. Alas, that wasn't the case, even if the fresh look at gameplay and story was a good one. Except, well, in a bit of a blunder, Obsidian might have shared the release date after all, just not on purpose. Right after Avowed's newest trailer was revealed, a blog post was shared by Obsidian inviting you to watch it, and right at the end of the post was a quote from game director Carrie Patel sharing the release date. "The last few months at Obsidian Entertainment have been fast-paced and exciting," said Patel. "Since we saw you at the Xbox Developer Direct this past January, we’ve been busy with Avowed getting it ready for release on November 12, 2024. Today, we’re thrilled to have revealed our first-ever story trailer at Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and to talk with you more about what we’ve shared." However, once that was noticed the "getting it ready for release on November 12, 2024" line was quickly removed, with the rest of the quote staying intact. Game dev is a fickle thing, so perhaps Obsidian just didn't want to lock anything in just yet, but any which way it is a rough sign of when you can expect the game, assuming there are no delays. Destiny 2 introduced a new bounty system called Pathfinder in The Final Shape expansion. When it was first announced, Pathfinder had several goals to achieve, including giving players more agency when choosing objectives and incentivizing objectives out of players’ comfort zones. Unfortunately, the way Pathfinder is trying to achieve these goals seemingly doesn’t work. “If I want the engram. I am more often than not forced to play activity that I don’t want to waste my free time with. I won’t be getting that time back, that I would be rather spending with some activity that I do enjoy playing,” a Destiny 2 player wrote in a Reddit thread on June 9. View the full article

The patch notes for the latest version of Starfield are finally here and players can anticipate plenty of new features as well as an expansion to one of the game's most interesting factions. During Microsoft's June 9 Xbox Showcase, the company dedicated a decent chunk of the presentation to Bethesda's sci-fi RPG, going so far as to provide players with some major insight into the game's future, including a release date for the Shattered Space DLC. That's still a while a way though, so in the meantime players will be able to explore the galaxy with The Trackers. View the full article
******** Squad: ***** the Justice League will complete its currently announced roadmap, publisher Warner Bros. has confirmed to IGN. After Rocksteady’s live service shooter flopped to the tune of $200 million, some players called into question Warner Bros.' support for the game and the prospect of additional content beyond the already released Season 1. Players asked even tougher questions after a report from Bloomberg into ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League’s troubled development, with reporter Jason Schreier writing on X/Twitter Rocksteady was currently giving the game “some barebones support, definitely not as much as they’d originally planned.” According to Schreier, Rocksteady is helping out with a director’s cut of Warner Bros.' smash hit Hogwarts Legacy while management pitches a return to single-player. But Warner Bros. told IGN that Rocksteady will see out ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League’s first year of support, while declining to comment on what happens afterwards. "We are not yet discussing anything that is not announced," a spokesperson added. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League was panned by critics upon launch and has extremely low player numbers on Steam. Some of the frustration stems from ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League not being another Batman game from Rocksteady, despite being set within the Arkhamverse. The developer’s single-player Arkham series is much-loved by fans, with 2011’s Batman: Arkham City in particular held up as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, superhero video games of all time. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League, on the other hand, is a live service third-person shooter in which Batman is a villain. Soon after the game's February 2024 release, publisher Warner Bros. admitted the ******** of ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League contributed to a $200 million hit to revenue. So, what can players expect? ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League’s current roadmap includes four seasons’ worth of content. Seasons two, three, and four are each set to add a new playable character, three new playable environments, new weapons, themed gear sets, activities, and mid-season updates. Rocksteady recently teased the introduction of Mrs. Freeze as a playable character for Season 2 after Season 1 added the Joker. Datamining has suggested playable characters on their way include Mrs. Freeze, Lawless, and Deathstroke. Based on Warner Bros.’ comment, players now know they will see this content. Will this be enough to spark renewed interest in the game? After Season 1 and the Joker’s arrival ******* to move the needle on player concurrent numbers on Steam (Microsoft and Sony do not make player numbers on Xbox and PlayStation public), it seems unlikely the following three lesser-known DC characters will do so. Indeed, thoughts have already turned to Rocksteady's next game, which many fans of the studio hope will play more like the Arkham games. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Start preparing yourself to head back into Starfield, because Bethesda's now offrred us our first look at what the Shattered Space expansion - and its story is about the base game faction that's arguably piqued players' interest the most since we first learned they were a thing. Yep, at some point in 2024 - the first trailer shown off at yesterday's Xbox showcase didn't provide a full release date - you'll be able to delve into the secrets of House Va'ruun. You can check out the trailer for the expansion below, which gives a pretty fun tease as to what you can expect from a DLC that'll take players to the great serpent-worshipping group's spooky home planet. "A mysterious power stirs in the city of Dazra on House Va'ruun's hidden homeworld," a blurb about the DLC on Bethesda's website reads, "Investigate a frightening cosmic threat, explore a new planet, and find unique weapons, spacesuits, and gear in this all-new adventure." Sounds like it's got some good potential to me, here's hoping that the fleshing out of this intriguing faction lives up to the promise of bringing a bit more unique flavour and colour to the game's world. "Deus Ex but tiny and hilarious" is how I pitch the first Streets of Rogue to people in elevators. Then I kick the elevator control panel to pieces, climb out the hatch, and cut the cord with a buzzsaw I smuggled in earlier. "It's also total chaos!" I yell, as the elevator plummets. "Ha ha ha ha ha ha!" Streets of Rogue 2 is looking similarly chaotic. But one thing has been brought to order: its release date. It's coming to early access on August 14th, while a new trailer (below) shows horse riding, flame throwing, and speed boating. My favourite moment is when a man pumps magic gas into a room full of people doing zumba, and it turns them all into giants, and they freak out and start smashing the walls in a panic. The Xbox app running on a ROG Ally. | Photo by Tom Warren / The Verge Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, has been dropping hints about a potential Xbox handheld for months now. Earlier this year he said he was “a big fan of handhelds,” after liking posts on X that mention the possibility of this new hardware. Now, in an interview with IGN Spencer says “I think we should have a handheld, too.” It’s the biggest hint yet that Microsoft is working on an Xbox handheld, something that’s been long-rumored. “The future for us in hardware is pretty awesome. The work that the team is doing around different form factors and different ways to play, I’m incredibly excited about,” said Spencer. “Today was about the games... but we will have a time to come out and talk more about platform.” Pressed on whether an Xbox... Illustration: The Verge Xbox chief Phil Spencer has confirmed that more of Microsoft’s own games will be coming to other platforms, like the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Microsoft revealed earlier this year that four Xbox-exclusive games were launching on PS5 and some on Nintendo Switch, with fans left wondering if it would only be four titles or if there are more to come. Spencer took the opportunity to clear up that mystery in an interview with IGN yesterday. “Our commitment to our Xbox customers is you’re going to get the opportunity to buy or subscribe to the game, and we’re going to support the game on other screens,” said Spencer. “You are going to see more of our games on more platforms, and we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we’re...
