  1. For a game Dragon Age fans have been waiting a decade for, The Veilguard makes one ***** of a first impression. Despite initial community concerns, a behind-closed-doors look at the game’s first hour revealed a slick, stylish, and deep sequel. Those concerns, of course, were based on a cinematic trailer and its tone. Many longtime Dragon Age fans didn’t enjoy the cartoony, heroic feel and the trailer’s introduction the companions, and were worried The Veilguard was ditching the dark tone of its predecessors. But at a first look Dot Esports attended at Summer Game Fest, the early gameplay delivered it all in the rain-soaked, ******-infested streets of Minrathous, the capital of Tevinter. 2. Arcane is coming to an end, with Riot Games today confirming the smash-hit League of Legends series’ second season will be its last. The early end to Jinx and Vi’s story doesn’t mean Runeterra is going anywhere though, with more projects across television and film already well underway. This isn’t a shock cancellation by Netflix, though that has been the streaming giant’s modus operandi recently. Instead, it’s a natural end to the story of sisters Jinx and Vi and their pivotal roles in the brewing war between the sister cities of Piltover and Zaun. The Arcane teams at Riot and Paris animation studio Fortiche set out with a “specific end in mind,” which they’ve now hit in the show’s sophomore season. View the full article
  3. League of Legends players and fans are getting their wish fulfilled: A third international tournament will be officially added to the calendar for 2025. The news comes via a Riot Games dev update on June 11, with the League esports calendar set to look drastically different following the 2024 World Championship and heading into next year. Regional play will kick off earlier in the year, culminating in an event currently penciled for March. This tournament isn’t expected to be as grand as the likes of Worlds, but it fills out the calendar year a little more and gives another opportunity for League‘s best and brightest to prove themselves on the world stage. 4. The long-hinted merger for ********* League of Legends has come at last, with Riot Games today confirming the LCS, CBLOL, and LLA competitions will soon be consolidated into a new dual-conference Americas League. The league will split into two conferences—North America and South America—with the LCS and CBLOL teams taking part in each separately—not too dissimilar to how the leagues are split currently. The LLA, however, will lose its classification as a tiered region in the ecosystem and will be given a slot in each of the Americas conferences. View the full article
  5. Vanguard, Riot Games’ anti-cheat software, has dealt a significant ***** to cheaters in League of Legends, resulting in the expulsion of nearly 50,000 scripters in a month. Despite this, player engagement ******** robust, with daily activity levels showing no signs of decline, Riot says. At the beginning of the year, Riot announced its ambitious plans to fortify League’s defense against cheaters with the implementation of Vanguard, its anti-cheat software. Fast forward to the present and the fruits of its labor are beginning to materialize with impressive numbers. View the full article For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  6. Players will swarm into League of Legends for the new PvE game mode set to arrive on the client with the summer event. In the latest Dev Update video, the League team shared details about Swarm, the new game mode previously described as a “bullet heaven survivor” event. Arriving mid-July, the summer event is rumored to be themed around the Anima universe, with leaked skins hinting at the return of the 2022 skin line. View the full article
  7. As strange as it sounds, League of Legends is nearly 15 years old. In many ways, the industry standard-bearer in multiplayer PC gaming and esports, once a haven for young, competitive players, is now an “old” title—and it has a playerbase age to match. At least, that was the gist given by League‘s leadership team in a private media event held on Riot’s Los Angeles campus. Make what you will of it, but the playerbase is getting older, and with that age comes a different set of challenges. “It’s not inherently a bad thing,” game director Pu Liu said in answer to a question about the age of League‘s players going up after confirming the assertion was true. “If you have a game that retains players really, really well, and you have a consistent inflow of new players year over year, [the playerbase] should age up.” View the full article

  9. Helldivers 2’s ongoing Galactic War has taken yet another interesting turn by presenting players with something of a moral dilemma: work together to save ***** children from certain ****** or unlock a new stratagem. The in-universe announcement from Super Earth, below, details the explosive PlayStation 5 and PC co-op shooter’s new Major Order: liberate Vernen Wells, which is home to thousands of civilian survivors trapped inside a children’s hospital, or liberate Marfark, which will in turn unlock the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines stratagem. Only the citizens or weaponry on the first liberated planet is likely to be saved, the Major Order reads. Both planets are currently held by the Automatons, Helldivers 2's terrifying ****** ****** faction. MAJOR ORDER: Helldivers, a difficult decision ***** ahead. Will you save the trapped survivors on Vernen Wells or the raw ingredients for the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines on Marfark? [Hidden Content] — HELLDIVERS™ 2 (@helldivers2) June 11, 2024 It’s a cool development from developer Arrowhead, whose Game Master Joel pulls the strings of Helldivers 2’s meta narrative from the shadows. And while this is all just a bit of fun, already the community is stressing over what to do. “We can create more kids, we need the mines now,” reads a post from one player. “We're never getting those mines….” said another. Some are even suggesting Arrowhead is hiding some secret reward behind saving the children, although that doesn’t sound like a very Super Earth thing to do. Given how ********* Helldivers 2 players have struggled to shepherd the wider player base in a single direction for previous Major Orders, there’s a risk here that neither planet is liberated, which would be awful for everyone. Perhaps there’s time for both to be saved. It will be interesting to see which way the galactic wind blows on this one. This Major Order comes ahead of this week’s new jungle-themed premium warbond and hotly anticipated game-changing patch, which makes over 100 fixes and improvements to Helldivers 2. Both should hit on Thursday, June 31. This week is a big one for Helldivers 2 and Arrowhead, which recently revealed it was in the process of setting the studio up so it could “make more and better stuff” in the long-term. In an introductory post on reddit, new CEO Shams Jorjani, who recently replaced previous Arrowhead CEO and now current Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedt, said the studio has had to adjust to the enormous success Helldivers 2 has brought to the company. Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, having shifted an incredible 12 million copies in just 12 weeks since going on ***** earlier this year. Amid the huge revenue Helldivers 2 has generated, Arrowhead itself has suffered a number of crises, including launch server problems and, most recently, a battle with Sony itself over the console maker’s controversial attempt to force Steam players to account link to PlayStation Network. 10. The ongoing speculation of an Xbox handheld recently reached fever pitch after Phil Spencer all but confirmed the existence of one. But is pushing a Steam Deck rival the right thing to do, especially when Xbox is already losing the console war by a landslide? 20. Zack Snyder just loves his director's cuts, and he's got a couple of them coming, one for each Rebel Moon film he's released with Netflix. Director's cuts aren't all that common a thing these days. That's probably in part because Hollywood execs are just not that interested in giving filmmakers more money to work on a film that they've already paid and is already finished, and also because they don't want to give up control over their IP - after all, IP is king now. But Snyder at the very least got that opportunity with Justice League, thanks to a ****-inflated fan campaign, and he's trying to do it again with his pair of Rebel Moon films. The director has been hyping them up since even before the standard cut of the first one came out (which calls into question whether he even wanted you to watch that one or not). Now, on his own Twitter account earlier today, Snyder shared that the director's cuts of both parts of Rebel Moon will be coming to Netflix on August 2. They even both have new names now - Chapter One will be called Chalice of Blood, and Chapter Two will be called Curse of Forgiveness. Both sound slightly too edgy for more liking, but I'm a Shadow the Hedgehog fan, so what do I know about taste anyway? Read more View the full article
