  3. When I saw the trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard during the 2024 Xbox Showcase, I cried - full blown cried. I've been waiting for the fourth installment in the ongoing saga for what feels like as long as I can remember, and while the trailer is everything I expected and more, it did feel very clean. For me, one of the best parts of Dragon Age is emerging from combat covered in blood, guts, and Darkspawn gore, but there's a distinct lack of bodily fluids in the trailer. At a sunny picnic table - a quiet spot amid the chaos of Summer Game Fest - I ask creative director John Epler about the response to the trailer, and he assures me that the dark fantasy we love is still very much alive in Thedas. 4. It's been confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will look to feature "almost horror-esque, scary moments" like the older games in the series did. Gears of War: E-Day is the next installment in the blockbuster third-person shooter franchise. But instead of continuing the story told in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, E-Day looks back to the very first day of the Locust invasion. View the full article
  5. While previous comments implied that players would be able to romance companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard regardless of gender, creative director John Epler confirms that the entire cast in the new Dragon Age title is canonically pansexual. As befits the new name, Dragon Age: The Veilguard seeks to place an emphasis on its characters in a way that hasn't been done by BioWare since Mass Effect 2. Each companion belongs to a specific faction that operates in northern Thedas, and they all have a role to play in the overarching story of The Veilguard. View the full article
  6. I'm a little sheepish about how much I'm looking forward to Cat Quest 3. It's neither big budget and mainstream, nor a conceptually thrilling indie. If the first two games are anything to go by, it'll be a paint-by-numbers action-RPG with simple combat, lots of grind, and endless cat and dog puns. Yeah. That's why I like it, though. Now it has a release date: August 8th. Read more View the full article
  7. One of the biggest MMORPGs of the last couple of years has fallen significantly in the west due to the games restrictive design choices. Gatekeeping has been at the forefront of it, but theres the fact that Amazon has been pushing Lost Ark to catch up faster than ever before, and burnout is a real issue. Its not about doing the same raids over and over again, but about players not being able to keep up with the flow of content. View the full article
  8. Helldivers 2 players logging on today were faced with a sharp moral dilemma as part of the game’s latest Major Order: save the children hiding in a hospital or risk your lives rescuing trapped Anti-Tank mines. Which one will help Sweet Liberty in the long run? The latest Helldivers 2 Major Order is underway. Players are required to aim their sights at one of two planets: Vernen Wells or Marfark. Thousands of super citizens are trapped inside a children’s hospital on the former, while the latter holds much-needed Anti-Tank mines that would boost the odds of Democracy against the never-ending threat of the socialist Automatons and tyrannical Terminids. Eager Helldivers will have to choose one or the other and determine who’s worth more in the grand stage of the Galactic War. View the full article
  9. A new Atomic Heart update is live and brings with it a ray tracing beta, new accessibility features, and a fix for a frustrating bug that has seen the game crashing when disabling AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution. Achievements have also been added for the Trapped in Limbo DLC. As with any ray tracing implementation, you're going to want the best graphics card for the prettiest results. For this beta, the Atomic Heart devs recommend a graphics card that supports DXR (DirectX ray tracing) with at least 12GB of memory. Read the rest of the story... Starship Troopers: Extermination has been in early access since last year and, buoyed by the success of Sony's similarly themed Helldivers 2, is coming in hot for a full October launch that among other things boasts the return of Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico. 15. Part of the reason why *****: The Dark Ages is coming to the PlayStation 5 is because id Software asked for that to happen, a senior Xbox official has said. 16. The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2 introduces a ton of entertaining new weapons and exotics to play with, but players have found that one of the new Titan exotic gear pieces is actively suffering from a technical issue that restricts its potential damage output. 19. It's been a whole year since Diablo 4 launched. In that time we've had four seasons and a plethora of changes, but none quite as big as Loot Reborn. With more endgame content and changes that go outside the Seasonal Realm, alongside a massive shift to item drops, D4 is heading in a whole new direction ahead of the Vessel of Hatred DLC. 23. Horror games are always set in abandoned old mansions, disused hospitals, or creepy forests. Arguably one of the most horrifying settings in the real world is a warzone, and Conscript puts us right into the quaking boots of a WWI soldier who just wants to get himself and his brother back to their mother.
