Team Asano, the studio behind the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, has admittated that it regrets announcing the game all the way back in 2021, leaving fans to yearn for a release date reveal that only arrived via this week's Nintendo Direct. November 14 is the date, by the way, in case you were busy washing your hair on the afternoon of June 18. Yup, up until a teaser last month, we'd heard pretty much nothing about the game since it was revealed alongside a whole suite of other Dragon Quest games during a special Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary livestream where everyone, it seems, kind of lost their heads a bit and went 'errrr, here's our thing too'. Naturally, people then wanted to know more about the remake, and its developers weren't quite in the position to be able to tell them yet. Now, in a tweet from the official account of Bravely Default 2, Team Asano's said it'd probably do things differently if - in the words of Cher - it could turn back time. What to compare Nine Sols’ flowing Sekiro-like 2D combat and layered metroidvania exploration to? The eternally sequel-less Hollow Knight? The punishing roguelite trappings of ***** Cells? 2D Souls-nuzzling Salt and Sacrifice? I wouldn’t know, because I’ve always had such trouble with slashing, blocking, and jumping in two dimensions that not only have I barely played any of the above, I’ve missed out a swathe of important platformers in the belief I just didn’t have it in me to manage them. But Nine Sols is so generous, so creative, so lucid and upfront in its ruleset, even as it crushes you with sometimes absurd difficulty, that playing it has opened up an entire library of classics I might have otherwise missed out on. I don’t have the experience to tell you what this game does better than others of its ilk, but I can tell how it made me feel. And for a game that murdered me with such relentless frequency, Nine Sols made me feel invincible. Read more View the full article
Fractal Design has been hitting it out of the park with its PC case designs recently, with its wooden-accented North, Terra, and Era all wowing us with their classy looks. Now Fractal has seemingly done it again with the launch of the new Fractal Mood, which swaps wooden accents for a gentle fabric-covered exterior that looks quite simply stunning. This tiny mini-ITX Fractal case has a footprint of just 212 x 212mm, making it among the smallest contenders for a spot on our best PC case guide, at least in terms of the desk space it takes up. The case rises to 453mm tall, making it reminiscent of the Corsair One series of PCs and, of course, the cylindrical Mac Pro, as well as several other small and tall-style cases. However, the Mood has to be among the classiest-looking yet of this type. Read the rest of the story... In anticipation of Shadow of the Erdtree's launch, I got heavily into Elden Ring once again this year. I finished my original playthrough with a powerful spellsword build (except when I had to defeat Malenia, where I cheesed it with a bleed boy), but for NG+ I wanted to try something different—after all, I'd barely touched my hoard of larval tears. Specifically, I wanted something unstoppable. Something that would make every boss keel over instantly. The inverse of the usual FromSoftware experience, basically... Read more.View the full article
A first look at the next Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been revealed, as filming finally gets going. Game of Thrones, once upon a time, was one of the most popular television shows around. It's no surprise that Warner Bros. wanted to continue to capitalise on that success with spin-offs and the like, but so far it's only managed to get one off the ground, the also quite popular House of the Dragon. But yesterday, the official Game of Thrones Twitter account showed a set photo of Peter Claffey in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, an upcoming prequel set one hundred years before the events of the main series. An official logline explains, "A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends." Todd Howard revealed in a recent interview that Bethesda has no plans to remake classic Fallout games because he doesn’t think it can recreate their charms, and fans on X heaped praise on this decision. YouTuber MrMattyPlays conducted an hour-long interview with Todd Howard on June 16, asking the Bethesda director about the future and the state of their IPs. When asked about whether or not Bethesda plans to remake the classic Fallout games, Todd said, “I could argue that some of the charm of games from that era and the original Fallout is a little bit of that age. I would never want to sort of paste over some of that with, ‘Well, we changed how this works, so it’s more modern.’” View the full article

The development of DLC-sized Fallout New Vegas mod Fallout Nuevo Mexico has been officially confirmed to be "on hold", about two months after the mod 'went dark', with its YouTube channel, Twitter account and Discord server either having some content removed or ceasing to see regular updates. If you're out of the loop, Nuevo Mexico is a mod that was originally announced back in 2021, with the goal of taking New Vegas players on a fresh adventure set in and around the state of New Mexico just five years after the events of Interplay’s original Fallout game. Prior to April, it'd had a couple of pretty interesting-looking trailers, and its creators were giving interviews about their plans for the mod as recently as March this year. Following some questions being asked at the time the mod went dark and another bump in speculation as to its status earlier this week, Nuevo Mexico's head of public relations J.K-Serling has posted the following statement to the mod's Discord server. When bringing gameplay mechanics from the core RPG Pokémon series like Gigantamax and Z-Moves to Pokémon Go, it can be tricky to recreate those experiences on a mobile phone, meaning players will have to wait for them to arrive. Both those examples are popular mechanics from different generations of titles and are right up there with things like Mega Evolution, which does exist in the mobile title. View the full article

Great news, people in their late 30s and older, a new Spaceballs is in development, and it's even got Mel Brooks involved. Most of you young folk reading this probably haven't heard of Spaceballs, but that's ok, I've got you covered. The film originally came out in 1987, and was mainly a parody of the original Star Wars trilogy, though its references extended to other big pop culture franchises from the time like Alien, Planet of the Apes, and Transformers, amongst others. Now, a sequel is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, and Josh Gad is apparently set to star in the leading role (via Variety). He's also attached as a producer on the film, with Brooks, who directed the original roll, doing so as well. In terms of the rest of the crew, Josh Greenbaum is attached to direct, who's previously directed episodes of New Girl and Fresh Off the Boat. Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez co-wrote the screenplay alongside Gad, and Kevin Salter is serving as executive producer. Apparently it's still in early stages right now, and plot details are being kept quiet, though I don't exactly see spoilers for a sequel to Spaceballs being a big priority for people right now if I'm being perfectly honest.
