  4. Image: Cath Virginia / The Verge, Sony After eight years in development, it took less than a month for Concord to ****. Yesterday, Sony announced that the game, which only launched on August 23rd, would be shutting down on September 6th. Ryan Ellis, game director at developer Firewalk Studios, said that it “didn’t land the way we’d intended.” That seems to be an understatement: the game is going offline, full refunds are being issued, and it’s unclear if Concord will ever come back. While the speed at which the game ended may be surprising, the fact that it happened isn’t. Concord is just the latest victim of publishers chasing the live-service trend with outsize expectations. Unfortunately, there’s only so much room — and Concord was too generic to find space. It’s easy to... Continue reading… View the full article

  8. I have a theory - or maybe it's more of a personal belief - that videogames looked their best between 1996 and 2005. Now we have photorealism, immeasurable polygon counts, and cloth physics, but in the old days, games looked like games. They had their own aesthetic. They were unique. With that in mind, and also recalling the halcyon days of Ghost Recon - Desert Siege, Jungle Storm, and so on - meet Dagger Directive, a new tactical FPS just signed by simulation game legend MicroProse that looks like it comes from the year 2000 and plays like a mix of Arma, Operation Flashpoint, and Delta Force. This is the kind of shooter that the PC was made for. Read the rest of the story... View the full article

  12. The original Netflix version of Daredevil had plenty of *********, but it sounds like Marvel is upping the ante for the upcoming Disney Plus series. A big point of appeal of Netflix's Daredevil was the action and *********, in particular because it was attempting to be a lot more grounded than most of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe was offering at the time. Marvel Studios was trying to appeal to a broader audience, so Daredevil and the other Netflix Marvel shows tried to be their edgier cousin. But speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel's head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios tried to make it clear that Daredevil: Born Again will be quite a "brutal" watch. "I'll tell you, some of the most brutal action we've ever brought to the screen is coming in Daredevil: Born Again, which isn't a horror show, but really it packs a lot of power and there's a lot of visceral action, to say the least," Winderbaum said. This apparently came as a larger conversation in relation to the next upcoming MCU Disney Plus series, Agatha All Along, in the context of horror in the cinematic universe. 22. Disney isn't making a live-action Frozen, but if it does, it'll just need to give Anya Taylor-Joy a quick call it seems. A live-action Frozen movie feels like an inevitability, doesn't it? It's not like Disney is against doing it for their newer films, it's doing one for Moana which came out after Frozen, so you have to wonder why the house of mouse hasn't sought after an adaptation of its mega-hit. My best guess is that it wouldn't sell toys quite as well as the animated original, but it could be for a sillier reason, Disney makes plenty of baffling choices after all. Still, it won't have to look very hard when it comes to casting Elsa if it does end up making one, as Furiosa star and Princess Peach herself Anyway Taylor Joy has put her hat in the ring (even if she's currently not up against anyone else anyway). Speaking to Vogue Hong Kong (via Entertainment Weekly), Taylor-Joy said she would "love to do a musical because I’m a bit addicted to hard work. I like having an impossible mountain to climb. The idea of having to be able to sing, dance, and act at the same time would just really thrill me." She continued, "I think Frozen would be pretty great. It would be very fun to ****** ice out of your hand. Also, you’d just be the favourite at every ****’s birthday party. All of my siblings have children now, so I would love for them to be able to say, 'My auntie is Elsa.' That would be pretty *****." Read more View the full article
