  1. Space Marine 2's launch might have brought Warhammer 40k to the ***** in the world of videogames, but the iconic setting's classic fantasy counterpart is still very much active, and no more so than in Total War Warhammer 3. Hot off the heels of its recent patch 5.2, developer Creative Assembly has more details on what the future holds for one of the best strategy games on PC. There's lots to look forward to in TWW3 patch 6.0 and the next round of DLC, including some fun systems to capture the essence of its new legendary lords. Read the rest of the story... 2. MSI has unveiled a new lineup of X870 and X870E AMD motherboard options, which include an extra eight-pin PCIe power connector on the board, boosting the overall ability of the board to power your GPU, CPU, fans, and other components all at the same time. You'll still need extra power connectors to plug directly into your GPU, but these new boards should in theory cope better with the extreme power requirements of top-tier systems. While this new MSI feature certainly isn't going to be an essential one for the best gaming motherboards, it's one you might want to consider if you're combining some of the most power-hungry components in one system and are considering overclocking them too. 3. If anyone’s asked me over the past few years which of the big annual sports franchises generally offered the most bang-for-your-buck on a yearly basis, I’ve probably said NBA 2K. It’s not a hugely ringing endorsement - unless you’re interested in whichever minor tweaks to the formula are on offer, you can generally skip any at least a year or two of it or its competitors in the handegg or footsphere business without actually missing much. But, in a genre where the strength of the package, the sheer volume and depth of content aimed at letting you do a sports thing in various ways, is king, NBA 2K’s felt like LeBron. If he was constantly trying to sell you fake money. NBA 2K25 is just as big as its notoriously girthy predecessors, clocking in at about 133GB on my PC, which is in the ballpark of Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3, both games that are noted for their hugeness. What you get for surrendering all that hard drive space isn’t a sports game so much as it is several smaller games that’ve combined into one giant mecha-sports thing. Like if you told Shaq, Kobe, and Phil Jackson to stand on each others’ shoulders. Read more View the full article
  4. Every once in a while, an offer comes across my desk you need to hear about. We all love a good saving but oftentimes it's for something you probably weren't going to buy anyway. You can still spend a fair bit, too, adding to that ever-expanding backlog. Then there's the Steam bargain bin: sales so cheap I wouldn't be doing my job right if I didn't at least tell you about them. This is where The Crew 2 comes in. Ubisoft's open-world racing game is a mere $1 right now, so don't miss your chance. Read the rest of the story... 6. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's co-op game mode is divided up into missions, each a unique level set in a particular location and with a particular focus. Played linearly, each mission is like a chapter in Space Marine 2's story, focusing on an individual battle in Lieutenant Titus' military career from beginning to end. Between missions, players have the opportunity to gear up, swap between Space Marine 2's six character classes, and perform other acts of character maintenance in the game's hub area aboard the Battle Barge. 7. Space Marine 2 has broken free from the shackles of its Warhammer 40,000 setting and made inroads into the gaming mainstream, and that means there are plenty of players new to its grim dark far future. For them Space Marine 2 is a somewhat bewildering experience, as it leans on much of the lore that Warhammer 40,000 owner Games Workshop has built over decades, with hundreds of novels, rule books, and magazine articles fleshing out the background fans know intimately. Warhammer 40,000 fans have enjoyed seeing newcomers react in shock at just how grim and dark Space Marine 2 is. And it’s not just the extreme gore, mass ******, and terrifying alien enemies that appear in the game either. Perhaps the most disturbing element of Space Marine 2 that newcomers are seeing for the first time are lobotomized *******. In Space Marine 2, I really respect how cherubs are one of the first sights to see when on the barge. It's a good tone setter for those who don't really know what they're in for [Hidden Content] — Iggy (@IgnacioVitalis) September 8, 2024 A tweet from Forbes writer Paul Tassi, below, sums up the reaction to Space Marine 2’s winged *******, who seemingly fly about the Battle Barge, the spaceship on which the Space Marines live and plan their missions, performing monotonous busywork. uhhh what [Hidden Content] — Paul Tassi (@PaulTassi) September 9, 2024 On the face of it, the apparent “good guys” of Space Marine 2’s story have lobotomized ******* cleaning up their mess. Sound messed up? Welcome to Warhammer 40,000’s Imperium of Man, a fascist regime always on the brink of extinction and an extreme vision of the far future in which pretty much anything goes. Warhammer 40,000 is intended to be grim and dark, and so stuff like this is par for the course (lobotomized ******* aren't close to being the most disturbing thing in the setting, if you fancy some light reading, check out what the Drukhari get up to in their spare time). Space Marine 2's far future is a truly ********** place to be, a place in which countless humans **** every day from all manner of horrors, be those alien, ******, or humans themselves. Humanity, bogged down by excruciating bureaucracy and religious fanaticism, has collapsed. There is no respite, no joy, only inevitable ******. With that in mind, Warhammer 40,000 fans are used to things like a “lobotomized ******* menial cyborg flying baby,” as X/Twitter user ChronoTheHarlequin pointed out. The thing is, with this one in particular, it gets even weirder. Seeing tweets like these kinda make me realize how numb I’ve gotten to the weird ***** in 40k. “Lobotomized ******* menial cyborg flying baby” isn’t something I’d even flinch at now [Hidden Content] — ChronoTheHarlequin (@ChronoHarlequin) September 10, 2024 As the unofficial Warhammer podcast Adeptus Ridiculous clarified, most of these things aren’t actually lobotomized *******. Most are built from the ground(?) up as flesh automatons with computers for brains (A.I is banned in the 40th millennium because of... reasons). Why do they look like *******? Apart from Warhammer 40,000 being all heavy metal and gothic, according to the lore, it’s for “ceremonial purposes.” Don't worry, most of them are not actually lobotomized *******, most are built from scratch as flesh automatons with computers for brains and just made to look like ******* for ceremonial purposes. Most of them. [Hidden Content] — Adeptus Ridiculous (@AdRidiculous) September 11, 2024 I’m loving Space Marine 2 and its attention to detail. The developers at Saber clearly love Warhammer 40,000 and made the effort to capture its oppressive, soul destroying atmosphere. I’ve particularly enjoyed the flavor dialogue you hear from the humans who are charged with keeping the Battle Barge afloat. Some bemoan a lack of sleep because of how hard they’re forced to work. Others express concern at the prospect of making even a single mistake. Given the truly ********** galaxy in which they live, these chaps are the lucky ones. And don’t get me started on the servitors. We’ve got plenty more Space Marine 2 coverage, including details of its first patch, its post-launch roadmap, and the upcoming addition of class matching for co-op, after players found themselves locked in a class standoff ahead of Operations mode missions. 10. When is the next Supervive playtest? Theorycraft Games is aiming for the stars with its debut release. Supervive is part hero shooter, part battle royale, with a sprinkling of everyone's favorite MOBA on top, as a treat. They call it an improvisational sandbox, and after taking part in the latest playtest, we can confirm all of these descriptors are accurate. While Supervive doesn't have a firm release date, with an open beta coming sometime later this year, alpha playtests have been occurring, giving players a chance to jump in and get to grips with the multiplayer game. There are plenty of characters on show, and already a competitive and healthy player base, but for those who haven't had a chance to play, or those who are chomping at the bit to get in, when is the next Supervive playtest? 17. Sonic the Hedgehog’s career is in rude health at the moment. Long time fans will remember all too well the string of strange, disappointing Sonic games that plagued the series in the back half of the 2000s, a run that makes Sonic Team’s recent successes all the more worthy of praise. For many, one of the first big turning points was 2011’s Sonic Generations, which celebrated Sonic’s past while bringing togther the 2D and 3D branches of the series. Read More... 18. Star Wars Outlaws is an open-world game in the Star Wars universe that explores a relatively untouched realm in the lore. Because of the open-world concept, players have a lot of options regarding what they do, or dont do. 20. Netflix has a new alternative history anime on the way, Leviathan, and it has some incredibly strong talent behind it. Animation studio Orange is back with a brand new 3DCG series, Leviathan, an anime that's actually based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Scott Westerfield and illustrated by Keither Thompson. Both the series and the book is an alternate history version of World War 1, where the Central Powers, i.e. the ******* Empire, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria (known as Clankers in the book) use big mechs and war machines, as well as artificially made living creatures designed for battle to ****** in war. Essentially, think World War 1, but steampunk. You can check the first teaser trailer for the series above, which does give a pretty lengthy look at the show, just without any voice acting. There's some pretty serious talent attached to it too - on composing duties are Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi, a composing duo that's worked on titles like Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 14, and Halo 5.
