  1. Enlarge / The tumbling continues. [/url] Microsoft's revenue from Xbox console sales was down a whopping 42 percent on a year-over-year basis for the quarter ending in June, the company announced in its latest earnings report. The massive drop continues a long, pronounced slide for sales of Microsoft's gaming hardware—the Xbox line has now shown year-over-year declines in hardware sales revenue in six of the last seven calendar quarters (and seven of the last nine). And Microsoft CFO Amy Hood told investors in a follow-up call ([Hidden Content]) to expect hardware sales to decline yet again in the coming fiscal quarter, which ends in September. The 42 percent drop for quarterly hardware revenue—by far the largest such drop since the introduction of the Xbox Series X/S in 2020—follows an 11 percent year-over-year decline in the second calendar quarter of 2023. 3. It’s only been about a month since Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm took an indefinite hiatus from the internet after admitting to “inappropriate” messages with a minor, but the popular streamer suddenly broke his silence today with a surprise post on social media. On July 31, Beahm posted a photo of himself sitting across from the viewer with a game board in the middle, with his side fitted with chess pieces and the viewer’s side with checkers pieces. It was a clear message: He’s playing chess while the world is playing checkers. The immediate responses were split between his stalwart fan base and many critics across the internet, from those cheering him on and asking for his return to those wondering why he has even bothered coming back. It has only been about a month since he stepped away from the spotlight, but now, it looks like he’s gearing up for another return. View the full article
  4. Killer7 is one of the most frightening, intense, original, and visionary games I've ever played. A co-production between Goichi 'Suda 51' Suda, of Grasshopper Manufacture, Lollipop Chainsaw, and Shadows of the Damned fame, and Shinji Mikami, one of the original masterminds behind the entire Resident Evil series, Killer7 originally arrived back in 2005. Now, almost two decades later, its creators discuss the possibility of both a relaunched "complete edition" and a full sequel. They even suggest some possible titles. Read the rest of the story... 7. Destiny 2 developer Bungie has announced plans to lay off 220 staff, integrate 155 of its remaining job roles into Sony Interactive entertainment, and pass work on one of its "incubation projects" to a freshly formed PlayStation Studio. This shift is ***** out in a new blog post penned by Bungie CEO Pete Parsons, who called it "the most difficult changes we’ve ever had to make as a studio". "Due to rising costs of development and industry shifts as well as enduring economic conditions," he continued, "it has become clear that we need to make substantial changes to our cost structure and focus development efforts entirely on Destiny and Marathon." The 220 staff being ***** off amount to "roughly 17%" of the studio's workforce, with Parsons stating that they'll include "executive and senior leader roles". "Today is a difficult and painful day, especially for our departing colleagues, all of which have made important and valuable contributions to Bungie," he added, "Our goal is to support them with the utmost care and respect. For everyone affected by this job reduction, we will be offering a generous exit package, including severance, bonus and health coverage." Read more View the full article
  8. Image: Bungie Another round of layoffs has hit Bungie. Bungie CEO Pete Parsons made the announcement on the studio’s website, citing the increasing costs of development and economic conditions as the reason for the reduction of staff — a refrain that’s become common in the last two years of prolific video game industry layoffs. Parsons wrote that 220 roles would be eliminated, representing 17 percent of the company’s workforce. Additionally, Parsons wrote that Bungie was working to integrate another 155 employees into other departments within Sony Interactive Entertainment. These numbers, combined with the 100 people ***** off in October of last year, mean that Bungie has lost roughly 40 percent of its total workforce in the last 12 months. Bungie had... The type of materials you need to hunt down vary in where you can find them, but those looking to get Twilight Gemstones need to visit a particular location. Twilight Gemstones don’t have the chance to drop anyway. Instead, they only have a chance of appearing during a specific activity, which means working together with your favorite FFXIV party members and friends to complete it. You’ll also need to be moderately patient, since getting Twilight Gemstones is time-consuming, and you’re not always guaranteed to get it. View the full article
  11. One of the biggest names in the streaming industry, MoistCr1TiKaL, is allegedly going on an “indefinite hiatus” and leaving his podcasts. This was announced today, July 31, on The Boys Patreon, though Cr1TiKaL himself is yet to make an official comment. The Patreon post titled “Goodbye Charlie” outlined that the popular creator will be leaving The Official Podcast and the Red Thread (thanks Dexerto). This decision was reportedly influenced by Charlie’s (Cr1TiKaL‘s) wish to “scale back his time spent on the internet.” The Official Podcast and the Red Thread will remain operational and won’t be taken down after Charlie departs, the Patreon post concludes. Charlie hasn’t spoken on the matter yet, though some believe the move was prompted following his recent debate with fellow creator Sneako. View the full article
