The developer behind Wuthering Waves has apologized for its rocky launch and offered players compensation. Wuthering Waves is an open-world Genshin Impact-style Gacha game from ******** developer Kuro that launched globally in free-to-play form across PC and mobile this week. But the launch has seen a number of issues since, including a raft of bugs and lag problems. In a tweet, Kuro said it was actively working on solutions to these problems. “We are committed to constant self-reflection and improvement, with your satisfaction as our top priority,” the developer said. “We are incredibly grateful for your understanding and patience during our recent technical issues.” The scale of the technical issues is ***** out in a post on the Wuthering Waves website. There was a login timeout issue, now said to be fixed, a problem with age authentication, which is under investigation, forced logins every time the game client is relaunched on PC, ****** issues, glitches on certain Android devices, poor quality localization, and performance issues including lag, freezes, frame-rate drops, devices overheating, blurry graphics, and force quits. An emergency patch was issued to address the most urgent issues, but Kuro advised those still experiencing serious overheating or frequent crashes lower the graphics settings “in the case of an overload for a smoother gaming experience.” “Please rest assured that we are dedicated to providing the best possible experience for our players, and we take performance concerns seriously,” Kuro said. “In future updates, we will continue to optimize the game's performance to improve your gaming experience. Please stay tuned to our upcoming notices and announcements. “ Compensation now offered includes Lustrous Tide*10 for Rovers (player characters) who reach Union Level 2 or above by July 3. Similar to Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves features a gacha mechanic for obtaining new characters and weapons — see our guide for more details on how to unlock pulling, plus our in-progress walkthrough to help you get started. Wuthering Waves is out and about, and loads of players are diving in and messing around with the open world action gacha. But, while many are out and about pumping up their union level or hunting down echoes, others are pushing the game's limits to see if they can break anything. It turns out, they can. By adjusting your device's clock, you can access a five-star character trail before its intended release. The Wuthering Waves character in question is Yinlin, a five star who isn't available in game at the moment via normal means. Through changing the device date to a point in the future when the Yinlin character trail is active and playable, cheeky players have been able to hop in and check her out early as shown in this bilibili video. Thankfully, it doesn't appear that you can use this technique to access other content, such as limited events or future dailies, but this sort of thing appearing to work client-side has many curious as to what further exploits are possible. For those who don't know, client-side refers to things the game determines on the player's end, whereas server-side refers to bits of the game the devs handle from their servers and the like. That's a very simplified explainer but for the purposes of this story it'll do! Read more View the full article
I cannot compare my experience of writing a review for The Splintered Sea, the first paid expansion for dastardly clever physics puzzle builder Besiege, to that of a journaling sailor facing lethal storms on the horizon. Still, if we take for granted the idea that a review is only really valuable as an insight into the experience of the player: I haven’t been feeling especially great this week. That in mind: Splintered Sea is more Besiege, thoughtfully applied to its already expansive toolkit. More importantly, it's currently bringing me deep and deeply needed moments of untainted, childlike, vaguely-Orkish joy. Read more View the full article

The Asus ROG Ally X, a sort of semi-sequel to last year’s ROG Ally handheld PC, has had its specs spilled over at Videocardz. I’m usually a lot more suspicious of hardware leaks, which are often just out-of-date or otherwise inaccurate info, but I’ve also sat through enough mic-muted prebriefings to know an official slideshow when I see one, and that appears to be exactly what Videocardz got its hands on. Besides, these specs include a gigantic 80Whr battery upgrade (doubling the ROG Ally’s 40Whr capacity), so we can at least file this under "News James wants to be true." The headline announcement being an upcoming sequel to well-loved space-pope turn-based strategy Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus. Yes, yes. I’m getting to the dog. Read more View the full article
Saturday, May 25, 2024 Neil Druckmann has clarified that Sony took his comments out of context in this interview, and has a provided a full response on social media. This article has been updated to reflect that. Naughty Dog has a bit of a penchant for innovation. Between triple-A PlayStation big hitters like Uncharted and The Last of Us, the studio has always looked to push the boundaries of storytelling through its games. As gaming itself has progressively entered mainstream media, it's no longer considered the geeky, odd cousin in the arts family. Perhaps it's because we've now all collectively given into our nerdiest instincts or otherwise, but what is certain is that Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann is looking to push the needle even further. Videogames and especially role-playing games are chock-full of sheltered upbringings that go ***** up. Innocent times and places like the prologue for Baldur's Gate, which unfolds in the vast, fortified monastery of Candlekeep (beware spoilers from this point on). BioWare's first ever RPG opens with your unsuspecting Chosen One learning the ropes from the old sage Gorion. There are fetchquests that take you around the enormous citadel, bits of combat training to do, cosy formative chinwags to have with characters like your childhood friend Imoen. But it's not to last, of course: Gorion is murdered, and you must rove the Sword Coast in pursuit of his *******. When you return to Candlekeep later in the game, this once-proud bastion of learning has been filled with doppelgangers of Gorion and other acquaintances, a parade of chatbots waiting to stab you in the back. I was pretty certain that I was pretty good at Elden Ring y'know? However, one player has destroyed such illusions. Compared to MissMikkaa, I am garbage. You may be wondering why? Well, dear reader, MissMikkaa has managed to beat Elden Ring's new game +7 difficulty with a level one character. She managed the feat in 269 hours, having to take on and overcome each and every boss before the job was done. This journey happened on Twitch, where she streamed the entire process. "I used no summons, great runes, throwing pots, sorceries nor incantations," MissMikkaa posted on Twitter, highlighting interesting details for those keen to learn more. If you've been a bit frustrated with the state of Helldivers 2 and are looking for reasons to jump back into the Galactic War - well, Arrowhead's here to provide 'em. The latest Major Order will reward a new mech if completed, and the studio's been taking community pitches for a new stratagem. In case you missed it, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt recently stepped aside as CEO, in order to focus more heavily on helping oversee Helldivers 2's development. While the wider effects of this will likely take a little while to come to fruition, that hasn't stopped the developer from getting off to a quick start - he's already asked the community for some stratagem ideas they'd like to see become a thing. Before we get to that, though let's start with this latest Major Order. The task is to liberate one planet - Varylia 5 - something players have already gotten around 30% of the way through as of writing. The reward would be "the dual-autocannon EXO-49 Emancipator exosuit", a mech that'll be possible to produce if an automaton "Petafactory" on the planet can be secured for Super Earth.
