Having basically sold both of my best standing legs to buy more Kingdom ****** Monster expansions, I can’t bemoan anyone spending silly amounts of money on whatever plastic tat makes them happy. But I love Baldur’s Gate 3, and it makes me sad to see all the wonderful art, writing, and acting that went into its characters reduced to $6 miniatures that look like their limbs would melt if I rubbed them between my thumb and forefinger. As spotted by PC Gamer, WizKids have recently opened pre-orders for a set of greasy pre-painted fetishes based on Larian’s RPG. WizKids, of course, being the maker of supermarket-discount-aisle-**** toys but, ah, they’ve got a base on them so we can pretend they’re proper models and charge you accordingly. Moaning about toys now, are we Nic? Is this what the profession has been reduced to? And to that I say: videogames are toys anyway, they’re just slightly better at hiding it.   4. Publisher Arc System Works has announced that Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Impact has been delayed. Many games see delays during their development cycle, as a number of different complications can arise while a title is being made.   5. Smite 2 developers Hi-Rez Studios have ***** off an unspecified number of workers, as part of what they call a "internal reorganization and reprioritization". The layoffs would ultimately benefit Smite 2, claimed the company's boss, who added that the cuts "disproportionally affect" those working on cosmetic skins and game "system features", as well as people in marketing and publishing roles.   7. The International 13 is over, which means Valve has released the long-awaited Dota 2 7.37d patch to end this aura meta. Though 7.37d is a letter patch, Valve has still made several much-needed changes to stop aura stacking and, most importantly, Gleipnir.   20. Sometimes the best option is to toss everything into a blender and see if you get a smoothie or a slurry. Card game? Sure! Board game? Absolutely! Game show setting? Can't see why not. Story mode with cut-scenes more than a little reminiscent of one of the two developers' previous games, 3 Out Of 10? Bring it! Exploding trains? There is no combination of ingredients that can't be improved by exploding trains, so that's a definite Yes. Battle Train is all this and more, and even released a demo two months back to give a taste of the mechanical carnage ahead.   23. Deadlock is a pretty big hit for Valve, which is great considering it's the company's first proper foray into game development in a good long while. Despite still being an invite-only title, it's regularly getting 24 hour player peaks of over 100,000, and Valve is pumping out meaningful updates to try and balance the game and combat cheaters.   25. As game updates go, there could be an argument that Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7 is one of the biggest without adding separate DLC or an expansion. It is totally free, adding a whole host of new evil endings for every single Origin Character, including the customizable Dark Urge, and mod support, which allows for fan-created content to be accessed by console players as well as players on PC. Both adding a myriad of endings and mod support would have been massive updates on their own, but together they make Patch 7 one of Baldur's Gate 3's biggest. View the full article
