  1. One of the most popular recent releases on Steam that's Steam Deck Verified (and works great on desktop Linux), Balatro has done really well. Read the full article here: [Hidden Content] View the full article
  2. It is I, the wound salter. The injury insult adder. Life By You, the simulation life-em-up from Paradox, was canceled in June after being delayed indefinitely. The day after the cancellation - which Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester implied was down to a “lacking”, unfixable development state - designer Willem Delventhal spoke about his time at the subsequently shuttered Paradox Tectonic. He claimed the team spent a month “in purgatory” prior to being told of the game’s cancelation and studio shuttering two weeks before launch, despite being told by higher-ups that work was “exceeding expectations.” We’ve now got another look at a game we’ll likely never get, thanks to a thread by Twxbbly user SimMattically collating unseen screenshots from portfolios by several artists who worked on Life By You. 3. Diablo 4 season five introduced another endgame activity to the mix with Infernal Hordes. As is customary, the activity has specific drops to farm for, and we’ve identified them all. There is a specific drop table for Infernal Hordes inhttps://dotesports.com/diabloDiablo 4, with a long list of quality items you can earn. Similarly to boss drops, it’s down to RNG on whether you land the item you are hunting for, and it may take repeated farming. View the full article
  4. It's pretty rare that I walk out of a movie theatre thinking "I truly just wasted 90+ minutes of my life watching that." Normally, I get something out of whatever it was I watched, be it joy or elation at best, perhaps anger or frustration at worst. Those negative feelings at least mean I'm feeling anything at all, they're feelings I can work with and talk about. But when I walked out of the Borderlands movie, I think all I felt was… apathy? A general sense of "what was the point"? Which is probably the most damning thing I could say about any piece of art, but calling the Borderlands movie 'art' is too generous. A film adaptation of Borderlands has been in the works since 2015, and a decade later it's finally here. Who knows what the story was meant to be originally, but what we ended up with was this: Lilith (Cate Blanchett), a bounty talker who doesn't really seem to care about anyone or anything but making her next paycheck, is tasked by the head of a major corporation to rescue his daughter, Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt). Things don't exactly go to plan, and instead she sets off on a journey with Tina, alongside Roland (Kevin Hart), the mercenary that kidnapped Tina, Krieg (Florian Munteanu), a big hulk of a man that doesn't say much, Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), a doctor obsessed with finding a legendary vault, and Claptrap (Jack ******), an annoying ****** that makes too many insufferable jokes. For the most part, that's a strong cast. Both Blanchett and Curtis are Oscar-winning actresses. You'd assume that prestige would seep through into the film. But as Borderland's lead, Blanchett's performance feels like one dampened by regret. She has previously explained that she picked up the role to save her from madness during COVID lockdown, but none of that energy can be seen in the finished product. Every single line seems underlined by the fact she's not really sure why she's there, and it kind of rubs off on everyone else too. Read more View the full article
  5. If you loved Longlegs and think Cuckoo looks pretty solid too, you'll be happy to learn that NEON will be staying in the arena of suspense and horror for the foreseeable. In January 2025, Presence is coming from Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Magic Mike), and it could be unlike anything we've ever seen. The pitch is simple: This is a supernatural entity story... from the point of view of the supernatural entity. We've had experiments with the format, such as the Paranormal Activity series, but this type of horror tale had never been told (at least in a mainstream feature) from the other perspective, and that alone might be enough to get many horror fanatics and casual moviegoers into the cinema. And if you were wondering who wrote this: It's Jurassic Park's David Koepp, a veteran Steven Spielberg collaborator, who's also helped shape the next Jurassic World movie. Earlier this year, we also had the opportunity to watch In a Violent Nature in theaters, a slasher movie narrated from the *******'s POV. While it wasn't super groundbreaking, it was a welcome change of pace, so maybe Presence can replicate that for the admittedly overdone 'haunted house' subgenre. There seems to be a demand for small twists on classic scary formulas as of late, so these two might be the start of a ******* movement towards reinventing horror for younger generations. 7. As you might be aware, massive Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London managed to recruit some pretty big names to go alongside its core voice acting pool. Baldur's Gate 3 star Neil Newbon and former *** Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow - the latter having become a household name in Britain thanks to memes about him telling MPs to shut up by yelling ‘Order!’ - were arguably the most unexpected inclusions. So, how did their cameos come about? Speaking to VG247 for an interview which also featured chat about how the mod’s release has gone and the cut quest line that’ll be arriving in a future update, Fallout: London project manager Dean ‘Prilladog’ Carter revealed exactly that. On Aug. 7, LCS shout casters, including CaptainFlowers, Kobe, and Jatt, announced a League showmatch between the two countries “in the spiArit of the ongoing Olympics.” The video revealing the match was posted to X, and also describes the rosters. They’re pretty stacked, to say the least. View the full article
  10. With The War Within just around the corner, WoW players are antsy to know whether the new expansion lives up to their expectations. The War Within adds the usual slew of world and PvE content alongside Delves—short mini-dungeons that promise lucrative endgame rewards. In an Aug. 7 Reddit thread, a Redditor asked The War Within community, “People who tested beta: are delves good?” It’s a great question. The user said they’ve seen many pro players running Delves, but they want to hear whether run-of-the-mill WoW players like you and me find them “fun,” regardless of their rewards. 15. As if waiting for a key to Delta Force: Hawk Ops’ wildly popular alpha wasn’t enough, the very vague “******* to get the branch list” error message has left multiple players annoyed and looking for a working fix—so you aren’t alone. A modern take on the classic FPS series, Delta Force: Hawk Ops launched into its first closed alpha test on Aug. 6. Contrary to what people would expect from an inspired, free-to-play first-person shooter in early testing stages, Hawk Ops managed to impress with its realistic, gripping, and optimized features, becoming an instant hit in the fandom. Unfortunately, however, errors in video games are inevitable, especially in testing stages. View the full article
  16. 2XKO director Shaun Rivera has declared his fighting game developers can do exactly what League of Legends players have been longing to hear: Any champion, every character—they could all be “a ***** fighting game character.” It’s been one of the biggest questions hanging over 2XKO since well, well before the Riot Games fighting title got its big name change: Will every League champion eventually jump across to the brawler roster? The answer, of course, is no; there’s already nearly 170 playable characters back in the flagship MOBA. But Rivera and his team won’t leave any behind just because they’re tricky to make. 17. Warner Bros. plans to put many of its properties, which includes mega-franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Batman, Looney Tunes, and many more, on the market for game developers to license to increase its performance and revenue. The new game plan from WB comes after ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League flopped. 2024 isn’t over yet and ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League has already been dubbed the year’s worst game. It performed so badly that the title’s underperformance resulted in a a $200 million revenue hit for Warner Bros. Ouch. To combat this, and the general underperformance and the revenue loss, Warner Bros. is considering putting its biggest franchises on the market to be licensed by other game developers, as reported by IGN. 18. Forget Yordles, because there’s an even cuter and cuddlier race that appears all across Runeterra and in the deep League of Legends lore: Poros. These adorable little critters have popped up everywhere from League and TFT to Legends of Runeterra, and most famously on Howling Abyss. They originally appeared on the single-lane map in 2012 when the new mode was first invented and have stuck around as the faux-mascots of the franchise ever since. View the full article
  19. There comes a time when someone or something simply “rubs you the wrong way” and today this happens to be how tricky the NYT Mini Crossworld Puzzle is—or rather, just one of the clues appearing in the game. This vexing clue popped up on Aug. 8 and considering how many four-letter words this answer could be, it certainly lives up to its irritating namesake. View the full article
  20. The League of Legends balance team is making a whole bucketload of changes to the League Arena metagame as the ever-popular gladiator playlist enters its final month of play before being temporarily shelved again. These Arena changes, which were loaded onto the League PBE on Aug. 7 and are expected to go live next Wednesday, are mainly focused on balancing newer items and augments around the mode’s increasing skill level. Several outlier champions like Sivir and Shyvanna will also be hit by changes to bring down their power. View the full article
  21. I love discovering new languages, but Spanish is one I’ve never had the opportunity to learn. That left me in a lurch for today’s NYT Mini Crossword clue, “Spanish for kiss.” This tricky language question, “Spanish for kiss,” is the eight-across clue in the Aug. 8 NYT Mini Crossword. If you’d like to try and solve this on your own, I’ve included four hints below, as well as the answer if you’re still at a loss. View the full article
  22. Diablo 4 has been inundated with bugs since season five arrived, with the problems ranging from lags and glitches across Sanctuary to full crashes, controller issues, Tempering problems, and even rewards from bosses and chests dropping incorrectly. For many Diablo 4 players, season five has become “unplayable.” The playerbase is up in arms over the errors, with this week’s reports including crashes on PlayStation 5, controllers bugging out and opening chat, Legion Event chests not spawning loot, and even the Infernal Hordes not rewarding chests at the end of the run. 23. League of Legends continues to expand both in scope and file size, even more than 15 years after its first release. Every patch introduces balance changes and new skins, and all those additions (unsurprisingly) increase the file size in gigabytes.
