The former creative director of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has revealed how he initially wanted publisher Paradox to drop the ‘Bloodlines 2’ name, because he felt his project didn’t have enough time or resources to deliver a worthy sequel. Following years of delays and a change of developer, Bloodlines 2 finally released in October and was widely criticized by critics and users, many of whom disliked its RPG offering, combat, and more linear gameplay. It was initially in development at Seattle-based Hardsuit Labs and scheduled for release in 2020. However, after many delays, the project was internally pulled from its developer by publisher Paradox, and eventually picked up by Sumo-owned The ******** Room, developer of acclaimed story games Everybody’s Gone to Rapture and Still Wakes the Deep. 10. I'll never proclaim to be a 20-year WoW veteran with five-figure playtime hours racked up, but I've certainly been pulled into the MMO-sphere on plenty of occasions. Everything began with exploring Runescape as a youngster, but my greatest and most recent vice was Destiny 2. I've had some great times with Bungie's shooter, but like so many others in recent months, I've left it to gather dust, and I've not picked up another MMO since. However, that may soon change - and not because a Star Wars-themed expansion is hitting Destiny 2 next week. A release date has just been set for Pioner, a post-apocalyptic MMOFPS with Escape From Tarkov levels of intensity that I'm very keen to play. Thankfully, that opportunity will be arriving extremely soon indeed. Read the rest of the story... 11. The performance of Call of Duty: ****** Ops 7 is starting to come into focus, with sales data suggesting it’s struggling not just against rival shooter Battlefield 6, but also last year’s ****** Ops 6. The Game Business reported that ****** Ops 7’s European launch saw opening week sales down 63% versus the blockbuster Battlefield 6 during the equivalent launch periods for each shooter. ****** Ops 7 is also down by more than 50% versus ****** Ops 6, The Game Business said. There is an important context that must be considered when discussing ****** Ops 7 sales. For example, there are ****** Ops 7 sales made across various online stores that make it hard to take data from one store only, such as Steam, and use it to make a call on a game's success either way (Call of Duty releases on Battle.net, for example). And of course ****** Ops 7, like all Microsoft games, launched day one on Game Pass. Downloads made via subscription services are not tracked here, and Microsoft has yet to announce any significant boost to Game Pass as a result of ****** Ops 7’s launch. For all we know, ****** Ops 7 hit its targets in terms of Game Pass subscriptions. And what even is success for Call of Duty these days in the context of Game Pass? Meanwhile, much is made of Steam concurrents, where ****** Ops 7’s launch appears to have fallen flat compared to ****** Ops 6’s. Last year, ****** Ops 6’s launch propelled the Call of Duty app on Steam to a peak player count of 315,000 on Steam. ****** Ops 7 boosted the Call of Duty app to just above 100,000 concurrents. But Steam, too, does not paint the full picture of a game's playerbase, given neither Microsoft nor Sony make player numbers public. Of course, ****** Ops 7 has had a big challenger this year from Battlefield 6, and it does indeed look like the tide has turned, at least at launch. Battlefield 6 secured the biggest opening ever in the Battlefield franchise, selling over 7 million copies in just three days. Microsoft — or Activision Blizzard — has yet to announce a sales number for ****** Ops 7, nor has it announced a player number or even vague engagement stats, which is more surprising. Last week, Activision released a statement thanking players for their “great response” to the game, which was presumably more about Multiplayer and Zombies than it was the Campaign. Thank you to our community and developers. This is just the start #BlackOps7 [Hidden Content] — Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) November 17, 2025 Adding to the brutal competition is the breakout hit that is Arc Raiders, which is doing fantastically well, too. Embark Studios’ extraction shooter has sold over 4 million copies worldwide and had a peak of over 700,000 concurrent players across all platforms since its launch in late October 2025. Arc Raiders Steam concurrents are actually growing, suggesting sales are continuing at a steady pace. All in all, ****** Ops 7 had a “terrible” launch, The Game Business’ chief Chris Dring said in a post on social media. Oh, and that down more than 50% figure on ****** Ops 6 is in fact down more than 60%. Anecdotally, there’s certainly a feeling among some Call of Duty players that Battlefield 6 and then Arc Raiders stole ****** Ops 7’s thunder. Getting in ahead of ****** Ops 7 was crucial for Battlefield 6, and there are many Call of Duty fans who jumped ship and then skipped ****** Ops 7 as a result. But it must be remembered that Call of Duty remains a gaming behemoth, regularly tops player number charts, and it’s come through sales disappointments (Vanguard and Infinite Warfare say hi) before. All eyes are on U.S. sales data for November, where we'll hopefully get more evidence of ****** Ops 7's sales performance domestically. Thoughts now turn to 2026’s Call of Duty. It seems unlikely that Microsoft and Activision will give the annualized franchise a year off, so will we see another Modern Warfare game? A return to World War 2? Or something completely different? With the threat of GTA 6’s November 2026 release date casting a shadow over Call of Duty and everything else that dares to go up against it next year, things aren’t going to get any easier for Activision. 12. You've finally made it through the three Crystal Cavern trials in Disney Dreamlight Valley, which means you're closer than ever to saving Wishblossom Ranch. To officially save this magical world, you need to tackle The Decay quest. This is the final main storyline mission, so it's a crucial one to work through if you want to unlock everything this island has to offer. It can be a bit tricky to work through on your own, so here's how to complete The Decay quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Table of contentsHow to complete The Decay in Disney Dreamlight ValleyTalk to Tinker BellReach friendship level five with PegasusTalk to the Wishblossom Ranch villagersPut on your new accessoriesTalk to the Giant Wishblossom in the HeartBreak all the Decay crystals at the entrance to the islandBreak all the Decay crystals on the first Crystal IslandBreak all the Decay crystals on the second Crystal IslandBreak all the Decay crystals on the third Crystal IslandHow to complete The Decay in Disney Dreamlight Valley Screenshot by Destructoid To complete The Decay quest, you need to increase your bond with Pegasus, gather some helpful protective accessories, and venture to the Decay island to put a stop to it once and for all. There's a lot to get done, and the fate of Wishblossom Ranch is at stake, so here's a full breakdown of everything you need to do. Talk to Tinker Bell Once you've completed the Crystal Cavern: Wishing Alps quest, the Crystal Caverns: Glamour Gulch quest, and the Crystal Cavern: Pixie Acres quest, meet Tinker Bell in the Wishblossom Heart to chat about what to do next. Reach friendship level five with Pegasus The first big step Tinker Bell gives you in this quest is building your friendship with Pegasus until you reach level five. It takes quite a lot of XP to reach this point, so it's best to chip away at this task slowly over time rather than trying to get it done in one go. Screenshot by Destructoid You can earn horse and mount XP by feeding them, petting them, brushing them, riding them, working on valley tasks with them, and jumping over obstacles with them. You'll earn a lot of XP passively by simply using your trusty mount to get around and tackle missions, so level five will come naturally over time. Talk to the Wishblossom Ranch villagers Once you've reached the XP requirement with Pegasus, track down Snow White around the ranch for a chat. She has a present to help prepare you for the journey ahead, and so do the other villagers around the island. Meet up with Cruella to talk with her next. Lastly, track down Tigger to chat and receive the gift he's got for you. Put on your new accessories Each of the three main Wishblossom Ranch villagers gave you a special accessory to help protect you on the dangerous journey you're about to endure, so put on the Hope Necklace, Ambition Bracelet, and Dream Earrings. All of them can be found on the Wardrobe page and can be selected by clicking the Tinker Bell quest icon. Screenshot by Destructoid Talk to the Giant Wishblossom in the Heart Now that you're properly dressed for the daunting journey ahead, head to the Giant Wishblossom in the Heart to get going. You can find this massive flower through the stone archway between the bridge that leads to the Wishblossom Ranch area and the bridge that takes you over to Wishing Way. Chat with them once you arrive. Break all the Decay crystals at the entrance to the island You've made it to the heart of the Decay, a strange new island you now need to navigate through. First, break three Decay crystals near the entrance where you landed. As soon as you do, a wind tunnel will appear at the end of the path, allowing you to use Pegasus to fly to the next area. Break all the Decay crystals on the first Crystal Island On the first Crystal Island, you'll encounter a Wishblossom of Hope. They ask you to clear away all Decay crystals that have popped up around their island, so mount up and make your way around the area, breaking a total of five Decay crystals as you go. A second wind tunnel you can ride using Pegasus will appear near the edge of the island once all the crystals are destroyed. Screenshot by Destructoid Break all the Decay crystals on the second Crystal Island You've landed on another island, this time one that is home to the Wishblossom of Ambition. They need you to find and break five more Decay crystals around the area before you can progress. Then, approach the next wind tunnel near the end of the island while riding Pegasus to fly over to the next location. Break all the Decay crystals on the third Crystal Island The third Wishblossom you encounter is the Wishblossom of Dreams, and after you land and chat with them, it's once again time to break five Decay crystals. As soon as you do, the massive Decay crystal hovering over the ranch will break, and The Decay quest will officially be complete. 13. Looting is the most important aspect in ARC Raiders. It is what drives each venture topside, and the only way you can actually progress in the game. Sure, crafting your own stuff is always better, but the components have got to come from somewhere, and it won't be long before you run out. That, and the blueprints are topside-only, so you're probably going to want to know which places to hit most often for the best goodies. Here's our full loot guide. ARC Raiders loot guide - best places to hit on every map Before I outline the locations themselves, here are some general notions to keep in mind every time you venture topside: Loot everything: Any container, no matter where, has a chance to drop a valuable or rare item. Whether this is a blueprint, a key, or anything else is besides the point. What's more, each container gives 200 XP, helping you level up quickly. Common materials can be ignored: Unless you desperately need things like Fabric, Rubber, etc., you don't have to take them. Scrappy can give you enough of any common material after each match, so don't fill your inventory with useful stuff.Always carry an Augment with a Safe Pocket: Looting is crucial in this game, and losing important loot can be devastating. Putting stuff in your Safe Pocket ensures it's extracted, so don't go out hunting for valuables without it. Now, here are our preferred looting locations on each ARC Raiders map: Dam Battlegrounds Image by Destructoid Dam is a fairly straightforward map and not the best for amazing loot. However, it has a few hotspots that tend to drop a few pinks here or there, so here they are: Research and Administration and Control Tower: Located right next to each other, these two locations spawn tremendous military-grade loot, including weapons, blueprints, weapon parts, rare components, and so on. They're the best two places on the map for loot, followed only by this next location. Water Treatment Control: Similar to the two above, and not far from them, this place also contains various military, tech, industrial, and other items of interest, so paying it a visit each time you drop into Dam is advisable. It's defended by various ARCs, which is why I'd prefer the previous location. However, that can also be useful, as the Turrets, Fireballs, and other ARCs inside can be easily farmed for good ARC-only components.Ruby Residence: This particular location is a goldmine for finding keys that spawn randomly (based on luck). There are plenty of floors and rooms to loot. You can also find plenty of useful loot that can be used for crafting and upgrading purposes.Buried City Image by Destructoid Buried City is a much denser map, one where loot can be found just about everywhere. However, it's a super hostile map that spawns countless powerful ARCs, including Bombardiers, Bastions, Rocketeers, and so on. They're patrolling the best loot locations, but you can still sneak past them and enter the following recommended loot zones: Space Travel Building: Located in the middle of the map, just above the Marano Park that is absolutely riddled with ARCs every single match, the Space Travel building is possibly the best single loot location on Buried City. It has tremendous odds to drop good items, is tied to various quests, and is super large and dense, further increasing the chances to find something valuable. Hospital: The Hospital is above the Space Travel building and is a great zone for medical items. It can spawn anything from basic bandages to valuable healing items. On top of that, each of its many lockers can drop amazing stuff that isn't medical, and given how many chests you can find around it, it can prove quite lucrative.Spaceport Image by Destructoid Spaceport is by far my favorite map in the game, and it has a wide array of good loot locations. One in particular can yield a ton of amazing items, some of which are super rare and necessary to upgrade various workstations. Launch Towers (top): The very top of the Launch Towers is packed to the brim with good loot. It has dozens of containers that can drop all sorts of different components, weapons, parts, you name it. Rushing to get to them first is almost always advisable, but that also makes this location very treacherous. Every player on the map is probably interested in doing the same, and that extra traffic tends to make looting the Launch Towers more difficult than your average zone. I recommend you go in well prepared and, perhaps, without too many valuables in case you do get downed.Control Tower A6: This building is very similar to the Space Travel building discussed in the Buried City section. It's diverse, contains loads of different items, and can be a source of weapons as much as components. If you cannot reach the Launch Towers in time, then this is the next best thing. Of course, the Departure Building and Arrival Building are good choices as well, so consider them secondary to the Launch Towers if they're simply out of reach. The Blue Gate Image by Destructoid The Blue Gate is by far the most challenging and brutal map in the game. It has the strongest opponents, is riddled with ARCs, and is generally difficult to navigate. But precisely because of that, it's also a valuable source of tremendous loot, especially when it comes to one location. Gate Approach - Checkpoint: This location is as dangerous as they come, almost always spawning a difficult ARC like a Leaper or a Bastion to guard it. However, if you get past these troubles (and survive other players trying to do the same), you're in for a ride. Raiding this place almost guarantees fantastic loot, from weapons to components to blueprints to anything you can think of. Not a single visit to the Gate Approach will go unrewarded, so long as you can survive the onslaught. In fact, I think this is the sole place you should aim for on the map, as anything else is mediocre at best (except, maybe, the Warehouse Complex, but that's more specific for certain mechanical items).Stella Montis Image by Destructoid Stella Montis is the latest map in the game as of this article, and a dense one at that. It's trafficked by a great number of raiders at all times, and is overall a dangerous location. Even so, it's an amazing place for finding solid loot, and the following two places should be of particular interest to you: Medical Research: Much like some of the other locations we've discussed here, this one has it all, from medical items (hence the name) to just about everything else. It's filled with containers big and small and can be a steady go-to location and source of rare and valuable items. It's located on the far west side of the map, beneath the Assembly. Lobby: Though unassuming at first, the Lobby is actually quite interesting, and a super easy place to raid for good loot. So long as you get lucky, the good chunk of containers in this place can yield valuables, with, of course, a wide range of potential item types. Most people gun it for red loot zones as soon as they spawn, so the Lobby will oftentimes remain untouched, allowing you to make use of its calmer nature. 14. The Internet is reeling from how Valve was totally going to announce Half-Life 3 on November 19, then on the 20th, then anytime now, but it hasn’t, and chances are it won't for who knows how long. And you know what? Good. If you're out of the loop, worry not. Valve did in no capacity even hint at an HL3 reveal, but the rumors of an impending HL3 reveal are at an all-time high, and the Internet is, now more than ever, flooded with nonsense. At best, this is just tiresome. At worst, this hurts everyone. Image via Reddit In the attention economy we currently live in, it's absolutely ludicrous to hope that everyone will know better than to spy on a company in the silliest ways possible to retrieve whatever sort of evidence that they're working on something. Still, how can fans defend looking so ill-advisedly into a company that has been so significantly harmed by similar behavior in the past? Steam's policies towards what is ostensibly gambling are very damaging to the entire community, and I'm totally fine with people looking into that. Trying to spoil the existence of games, however, just greatly dampens the fun for everyone. Such behavior poisons the hype with the inevitable ****** that comes every time we realize we'd fallen prey to false hope. Either that or, well, we become the gaming equivalent of QAnon believers who'll keep seeing definite clues everywhere in the hopes of avoiding coming to terms with a harsher truth. Game reveals can be just the best thing I'll never forget opening Gamespot to find out Valve had done a mega gameplay presentation of Half-Life 2 at E3 2003. [Hidden Content] It remains my favorite presentation in gaming history. We could even hear the live "aaaw"s and "oooh"s of those in attendance. Valve released a high-res version of the demo for the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2, if you want to witness its full glory. That unmistakable awe forever imprinted on that video was made possible because, even though Half-Life 2 was expected, nobody knew exactly what shape it would take, and its reality was way beyond anyone's dreams. Sadly, this fantastic presentation would get overshadowed as Half-Life 2's source code would end up leaked, causing the game's development and promotional efforts to retreat temporarily and rethink the strategy for a year. A more recent case was that of GTA 6, which also suffered a huge code leakage that got so many people to witness the game in a severely unfinished state, prompting many to claim the game would *****. That was a bizarre claim, but something you can understand from consumers who aren't well-versed in what the process of game development looks like. GTA 6 certainly won't *****, but the gross leak certainly had killed part of the surprise by the time its fantastic first trailer hit: [Hidden Content] of the best parts of gaming might be over forever, and few have noticed The press conferences from E3 2015 are known as some of the best in the event's history. That's because they revealed, among many others, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Shenmue 3. FFVII's case was similar to that of Half-Life 3, a game whose reveal had been heavily speculated about every year prior to 2007. People still cared for it because it was Final Fantasy VII, but by 2015, the greatest catalyst for joy in everyone's minds was knowing that they hadn't just been bamboozled once again. Shenmue 3, however, a game that many wanted, but that only a few really believed would be making a comeback, elicited this reaction: [Hidden Content] Shenmue 3 ended up falling short of expectations, so that reveal was the best we ever got out of it; a moment when you could believe Shenmue 3 was the game to outdo everything that had come before. E3's death fragmentation into many smaller events might prevent a reveal from ever reaching the same heights. Still, even worse is learning about the continuation of your favorite franchise via low-res—and sometimes straight-up fake—screenshots and dubious quotes from nameless devs. It sucks even harder when people who should know better also feed the problem on purpose. On the 21st, Geoff Keighley posted this on Twitter: [Hidden Content] While a layman might just see the random image of a game-y generator, that's clearly a nod to an iconic contraption from the original Half-Life, right when fans are at their weakest. So, one last time, we must ask: Does that mean Half-Life 3 will be confirmed at this year's Game Awards? No, because that’s actually a still from f*cking Fortnite. Bloodborne 2, however, who knows? 19. Valve has provided the strongest indication yet that the Steam Machine price will be set with similar performance PCs in mind, and confirmed it has no plans to subsidize the hardware like console manufacturers do by eating a big loss on each unit sold. The Steam Machine is a mid-level gaming-focused PC designed to be more accessible than a standard desktop PC, with a sleek, cube-like design and SteamOS on-board. We here at IGN have offered our thoughts on how much the Steam Machine will cost, suggesting it’ll probably be higher than people think. Chatter about pricing recently ramped up after Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips suggested it wouldn’t follow a “console pricing model” of $500, after mentioning the figure in a meeting with Valve staff. Then last week, a former Xbox executive called on Valve to allow third-parties to use SteamOS to make their own Steam Machines, amid concern over the potential price of the next-gen living room PC (as IGN pointed out at the time, third-parties already can use SteamOS — just look at the Lenovo Legion Go S). Now, in a new interview with Skill Up, Valve's Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais discussed the price of Steam Machine without actually confirming what it is. The conversation began with software engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais confirming that Steam Machine is more powerful than 70% of gaming PCs that Valve registers on its hardware survey, in terms of general GPU level, saying: “We have looked at that number as part of speccing the machine, so it’s possible it’s evolved a little bit over time, but I think ballpark, it’s about there.” He then said that fans should expect the Steam Machine price to be around the same as if you were to build a PC from parts to get “basically the same level of performance.” “I think that if you build a PC from parts and get to basically the same level of performance, that's the general price window that we aim to be at,” he said. “Ideally we'd be pretty competitive with that and have a pretty good deal, but we're working on refining that as we speak. Right now is just a hard time to have a really good idea of what the price is going to be because there's a lot of different things… a lot of external things.” In that context, Valve’s Steam Machine will likely cost above $750. We’ve suggested Steam Machine will cost $700-$800. To put that into perspective, the base PS5 with a disc drive currently costs $549.99, while the PS5 Digital Edition costs $499.99. The PS5 Pro, meanwhile, costs $749.99. Skill Up then asked Valve to rule out the Steam Machine being subsidized hardware, saying, “like Valve is not going into this thinking we're going to eat a big loss on this so that we can grow market share or category or anything like that, correct?" Pierre-Loup Griffais’ answer here was unequivocal: “No. It's more in-line with what you might expect from the current PC market. Obviously, our goal is for it to be a good deal at that level of performance.” He then went on to make the case for Steam Machine at that sort of price, pointing to the value you get from the various features it includes that simply wouldn’t be easy to replicate if you were to build your own PC from similar parts. “And then you have features that are actually really hard to build if you're making your own gaming PC from parts, right?” he continued. “Like things like, obviously the small form factor and I think the noise level that we achieved — or lack thereof — is really impressive, and we're excited that the people are going to find out how quiet this thing is. But also some integration features like HDMI CEC, right? Like being able to turn on your TV, turn off your TV, control it with your TV remote, change the volume, all that kind of stuff. “Like the Bluetooth and wireless work that we've done, the four antennas, the very deliberate design to make sure that you can have a great experience with four Bluetooth controllers from any manufacturer, plus our Steam Controller receiver integrated as well — that’s all hard to do. But more importantly, you can turn on the machine from your controller, which is not something that is actually straightforward depending on the type of PC you have or the main chipset and all that. “So being able to sit down on your couch, press one button on your controller, and the whole thing lights up like you'd expect for a thing that's in your living room, I think that's really valuable. And there's not really a price point to that because it's not really something that exists in the PC market right now. “There's people that are going to be perfectly happy building their PC at whatever level of spec, and that's going to be a great experience for them. We're building Steam OS so that if they want to use it for that they can and they can have essentially the same experience. And if they're happy with that, that's perfectly good with us. But we expect the machine is a nice baseline offering that lets you have some features that are really hard to get to otherwise.” Valve designer Lawrence Yang then chimed in with his own thought: "for me one of the benefits of Steam Machine is, I'm someone who used to build my PC in college and I am too old and tired to do that now!” These latest comments chime with Linus Tech Tips’ recent episode of the WAN Show, where he recalled that he had expressed his disappointment to Valve that Steam Machine wouldn’t follow a console pricing model where it is subsidized by the manufacturer because it takes a 30% cut of sales made on the platform, as the likes of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo do with their consoles. Linus said he was then asked by Valve what he meant by a “console price,” to which he responded $500. “Nobody said anything, but the energy of the room wasn't great,” Linus continued. Here are the comments in full: “So basically, it's a 7600 CPU and a 7600 GPU. This is not a super powerful machine. Valve is upfront saying that they are going to be relying on FSR in order to achieve 4K. And even then man, like 8 gigs of VRAM, anyone else would be taking a ton of flak for shipping a game console today with 8 gigs of VRAM. “I can’t tell you what the price will be because I literally don't know but, when I said, ‘I'm disappointed that it isn't going to follow a console pricing model where it's subsidized by the fact that the manufacturer is going to be taking 30% of every game sold on it over the lifespan of this thing, because I feel that would be a more meaningful product,’ they kind of asked what I meant by, well, ‘what do you mean by console price?’ And I said, ‘Well, $500.’ “Nobody said anything, but the energy of the room wasn't great.” Now, some are questioning Valve’s refusal to subsidize the Steam Machine and thus theoretically at least miss out on having a greater number of people buying games through Steam. Larian publishing director Michael Douse, who is in charge of business development regarding the likes of Steam megahit Baldur’s Gate 3, took to social media to suggest Valve will lose “far more” than the approx. $200 difference by not having more users on the Steam storefront, “which is essentially a money printing machine.” “That said it isn't stupid to not sell things at a loss, just peculiar in this case,” Douse continued. We’ve got plenty more on all Valve’s recent hardware announcements, and have a handy roundup so you don’t miss a thing. We went hands-on with Steam Machine and Steam Controller, and if you’re wondering about Steam Deck 2, we asked Valve about that as well. Wesley is Director, News at IGN.
