  6. The Legends system is a feature in Sid Meier's Civilization 7 that rewards players with cosmetics or gameplay bonuses in the form of Mementos. The system incentivizes completion of campaigns in their entirety and tracks accomplishments across multiple games, and it comes in response to a key data point that highlights a big problem with previous Civilization games. Legends give clearer incentives for continuing or completing a campaign and are organized into Paths where players will gradually unlock rewards based on experience and completing Challenges, which are divided into two distinct categories: Leader and Foundation Challenges. 9. If you watched the 2007 documentary King of Kong or followed the controversy surrounding score-chaser Billy Mitchell, you know all about Donkey Kong's famous kill screen. For over four decades, no one was able to pass the game's 117th screen (aka level 22-1) due to a glitch in the game's bonus timer that kills Mario well before he can reach the top of the stage's girders. That was true until last weekend, when Mario speedrunner Kosmic shared the news that he had passed the kill screen using a combination of frame-perfect emulator inputs, a well-known ladder movement glitch, and a bit of luck. And even though Kosmic's trick is functionally impossible to pull off with human reflexes on real hardware, the method shows how the game's seemingly insurmountable kill screen actually can be overcome without modifying the code on an official Donkey Kong arcade board. [Hidden Content] Kosmic describes the journey that led to his kill screen defeat. Breaking the broken ladder Donkey Kong's kill screen is a side effect of the limited 8-bit register the game uses when calculating the two largest digits of a level's Bonus Timer (which doubles as the overall timer for each screen). At level 22, this calculation makes the register overflow past 256 and back down to 4, giving Mario just a few seconds to complete the stage before instant death. 10. After two decades following its original release, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be a trip down memory lane for every hardcore fan of the franchise. Thanks to a leaked trailer doing the rounds on social media for the last 24 hours, we know when the game will launch. The trailer also lists the platforms where the game is going to be available. Unless there are any unprecedented delays at the ends of the developers, the wait won't be long. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will release globally on August 28, 2025. This was first revealed by the leaked trailer, which appears to be from the PSN Store's backend. So far, we haven't had any official idea about the date, although it was known that the remake would be available in 2025. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer explained The nearly two-minute-long trailer is the first peek at how the technology has changed over the last two decades. While the main plot will be the same, the remake will have significantly better graphics for starters. This is obvious as the project was built on Unreal Engine 5 instead of Konami's proprietary FOX Engine. Expect significant changes in how some fundamental movement mechanics work inside the game. For example, Snake can now crouch-walk, and you'll be able to aim more precisely. These changes will certainly take away some of the more janky mechanics in the original version. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater platforms Unless you're on an old-gen console, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be available at launch. The game will be available on the PS5, the Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC via Steam). Image via Konami So far, we have no idea whether the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, but that will largely depend on when the console becomes available worldwide. If you want to play early, the Deluxe Edition will provide that opportunity. The edition will have up to three days of early access for those willing to pay extra. Currently, the Steam page is up, but much information is yet to be disclosed. It will be interesting to learn more about the upcoming launch and if Konami will showcase more features and gameplay videos to the audience in the coming months. 11. Roguelike deckbuilders need to do something pretty special to stand out nowadays, what with the Slay The Spileup of bangers over the past few years. Cobalt Core, Wildfrost, Samurai Showdown (if you squint). All excellent, but Diceomancer stands out above even those, thanks to a clever gimmick and a hefty dose of chutzpah. It’s there in the strapline, you know the deal, but to emphasise: you can reroll ANY number on your screen. Your health, enemy health, attacks, blocks, buffs, mana, gold - all fair game. The numbers in encounters. On Relics. Have at ‘em! Heck, and that’s before you start scribbling in the rulebook. 14. How do you use the Monster Hunter Wilds Gunlance? If you like the look of the Lance but want to give it a bit more oomph, look no further than the Gunlance. 15. Space roguelike Breachway has some big changes on the way, as developer Edgeflow Studio works on enhancing replayability. Bringing together the ship building I love from No Man's Sky, the deckbuilding of Slay the Spire, and the tactical combat of FTL, Breachway is already a lot of fun, but the team has received frequent feedback asking for greater variety between attempts. What started out as a planned update to the overarching progression has turned into a "pretty hefty rework," Edgeflow explains, and the focus is on redesigning several systems to reduce the similarity of runs. 21. Whether you’ve played Final Fantasy XI previously and are taking a break, or your interest has been piqued by the latest round of Final Fantasy XIVs Alliance Raids, FFXIV players will soon have a chance to enter Vana’diel at a discounted rate thanks to the Echoes of Vana’diel Discount Campaign. The campaign was announced at the tail end of the Live Letter from the Producers 85 live stream on January 7, and it offers players a discounted 30 days to explore Vana’diel and learn more about the world that inspired the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid series currently underway as part of Dawntrail. Between February 12 and March 11, FFXIV players who sign up for a new FFXI account or reactivate an existing one can cut their FFXI service fee in half for the first 30 days. This service fee is usually $11.95 (service fee) plus $1 (character fee), totaling $12.95. If you sign up (or reactivate your account) during the campaign *******, you’ll only pay $6.95 for your first month. Image via Square Enix If you’re new to FFXI, you will need to purchase a copy of the game itself to play. Currently, you can purchase it via the Square Enix Store or Steam. Either way, the cost of the game is $29.99. On the plus side, purchasing the game also comes with its own 30-day free play *******, so you’ll end up with 60 days of game time for half the cost of a usual month. This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about the characters we’ve already encountered during FFXIVs Echoes of Vana’diel story and those we’ve yet to meet in the two as-yet-unreleased Alliance Raids. The story is more or less understandable even if you’ve never played FFXI, but the additional knowledge would certainly help to make sense of things. Once your initial 30 days are over, you’ll then need to pay the full service fee if you want to keep playing FFXI, which you likely will once you’ve immersed yourself in the world for a full month.
