Counter-Strike 2’s esports ecosystem saw a few substantial changes with the beginning of 2025. These include an open circuit, allowing more third-party companies to host events—which resulted in an abundance of tier-one tournaments in the following months. Each month there will be a few tournaments worth following, so it’s easy to get lost in the calendar. With so many options, don’t expect your favorite teams to participate in each of them. However, the year is still shaping up to be the busiest it has ever been in CS2. View the full article

Watch out, Valve, because Ayaneo is coming for the portable crown with its new Ayaneo 3 gaming handheld. The power cable for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition graphics card has been shown reaching a scorching temperature of 150°C in thermal tests, prompting concern that the days of melting power plugs are very far from over with the new gaming GPU range. In the test, one wire was shown drawing a massive 20A current on its own, with the image on a thermal camera glowing white. You can read all about the performance of this new Nvidia GPU in our RTX 5090 review, and we had no problems with hot-running cables when we were running our benchmarks. It had been a rocky start for the Advanced Access ******* of Sid Meier's Civilization VII's release, but developers at Firaxis have been quick to make some temporary repairs as the full launch of the game came. Unfortunately, not everyone has been happy about how it came about. The 4X turn-based strategy game has made a lot of changes from previous entries in the series, but the issues players noted during the first early days of its release were surprisingly not all focused on the expected growing pains. Monster Hunter Wilds features an absolutely dreadful spider monster - a spider that, going by preview encounters and trailers, strives for the point on the Venn diagram between Malenia in Elden Ring and the ****** arachnid from Hunt: Showdown. The spider monster is called the Lala Barina. If I saw "Lala Barina" out of context I would assume I was reading about a successor to Suzuki's subcompact automobile the Holden Barina, whose brave and sturdy outline once graced the roads of Oceania. I would not picture a giant, greasy rose blossom with jet-****** darting mandibles. I would not picture nests of scarlet silk and status effects literally out the wazoo. Graphics card and motherboard manufacturer, Colorful, has just unveiled an intriguing new AMD X870 motherboard with an easy-remove mechanism for its graphics card PCIe slot. While such additions aren't new, this one stands out from the crowd thanks to it literally having an on/off button next to the slot to signify when the card is safe to remove. With rival maker Asus, having just had a spot of controversy regarding its own quick release feature, Q-Release Slim - as featured on some of the best gaming motherboard options made by the company, such as the Asus ROG Strix X870E-E - the timing is potentially perfect for Colorful to swoop in and show how a quick release PCIe slot is actually done. 2015 was a pretty big year for Hollywood and pop culture as a whole, and we're still feeling its impact a whole decade later. In fact, it was so big that most studios have struggled to move past that era of nostalgic revivals and huge franchises at the peak of their popularity. As we await a new Jurassic World, yet another Superman reboot, and the return of the Fantastic Four, we gotta wonder how much longer the whole industry can run on past glories. Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki has confirmed some big changes are coming to the Soulslike’s map, including the return of every player’s favorite swamp terrain. Ubisoft has assured that Assassin's Creed Shadows players who largely ignore one of the dual protagonists won't be "missing out." Creative director Jonathan Dumont told Screen Rant said Assassin's Creed Shadows won't force players to play as both the stealthy Naoe and the brutish Yasuke in equal measure when it arrives March 20, nor will it lock off certain parts of the game to those who prefer one over the other. "I don't think you're missing out on things too much," Dumont said. "I think it's more on your preference to [say], 'Okay, I'll see how the game will adapt a little bit to the character if you choose one over the other.' "They get individual introductions and then they get their own questline also. Let's say [for] Naoe, a personal questline cannot be played by Yasuke and those are two distinct things. But the core of the game can be pick your character and the game adapts." Naoe has a play style reminiscent of the original Assassin's Creed games or, ironically, the most recent Assassin's Creed Mirage, which prioritises stealth and encourages full combat only as a last resort. This is a stark difference to Yasuke who emulates the more aggressive elements of the role-playing game Assassin's Creed entries, meaning Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. He charges head on into battle instead of sticking to the shadows like Naoe. "We're not imposing players try to split the time," Dumont said. "If you prefer one character for any reason, you can play maybe, I don't know, I'm not going to put a percentage, but quite a bit of the game using one of them. "But if you want to balance it out... I play quite a bit balanced out and what happens is, I play with one for three, four, five hours, and then I switch, and then I just play two, three hours. Usually I play stealth and then I [say], 'All right, let me destroy some camps and stuff all right for a while.' And then I just change like that." A lot rests on the shoulders of Assassin's Creed Shadows as not only the long-awaited Japan-set entry and the first full Assassin's Creed since 2020, but a struggling Ubisoft needs it to perform well following recent flops and investor frustration. It's not enjoyed a particularly positive promotional ******* so far, however, with the development team having to apologize on separate occasions for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan and using a historical recreation group's flag without permission. Yet another controversy came as collectible figure maker PureArts removed an Assassin's Creed Shadows statue from ***** over its "insensitive" design, and combined with the two delays, fans are growing increasingly impatient as a result. Ever since I was a little girl, I've been fascinated by fictional representations of the bayou. Whether it's my teenage obsession with The CW's Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals or my interest in the occult, to me, the swamp represents nature at its most powerful; if magic exists, the bayou would be its beating heart. South of Midnight, then, is outwardly perfect for me; a feeling compounded by the fact it hails from Compulsion Games, the creator of We Happy Few, one of my personal favorites. I've gone to bat over it many times, and while I acknowledge that it's janky and very much not what we expected it to be, it remains a unique, mind-bending acid trip that I often return to. Despite their very different settings and genres, South of Midnight may end up being just as divisive, but its living world, strong characterization, and heart-wrenching story could still make up for its jank and familiar action. While leaders in Sid Meier's Civilization 7 can win any victory type given the proper strategy, some are more catered to a Military or Domination Victory than others. The Military Victory requires following the Military Legacy Paths in each Age and conquering Settlements to earn points in each path. A recent Genshin Impact leak has revealed the Ascension Materials for Varesa and Iansan, the two characters set to make a playable debut in Version 5.5. While Genshin Impact players are fond of gathering Ascension Materials ahead of a character's release, this isn't always manageable. A new map expansion comes with a new World Boss, new Ascension Materials, and even a new Trounce Domain in some cases. Version 5.5 won't be any different in this regard, but that doesn't mean that Genshin Impact players won't be able to pre-farm for Varesa and Iansan to a certain degree. View the full article
When I wrote a preview of South of Midnight late last year, I concluded by saying that even though the game looked fantastic, the proof would always be in the playing. After all, developer Compulsion Games has previously released two titles that boasted a wonderfully unique visual style but were somewhat lacking in the gameplay department. 2013’s Contrast was a visually striking puzzle platformer set in the 1920s, which took influences from burlesque, vaudeville, Belle Époche and Art Nouveau aesthetics. There's now a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that swaps V's hands for a pair of feet. No, I'm not sure why.
