I remember the first time I got a loot box drop in Overwatch. As someone who was relatively new to online shooters, I could feel my heart pounding. I clicked the prompt, and there was an explosion of light, accompanied by a triumphant little tune. What dropped was a simple purple Moira recolor, but it felt like I'd won the lottery - it felt like I'd been rewarded. During my entire time with Overwatch I probably only bought three skins maximum, accumulating an entire library of cosmetics using the loot box system and rotating events alone. Unfortunately, coming into Overwatch 2, that simply wasn't the case anymore - loot boxes were gone, and there was yet another battle pass to grind through. Read the rest of the story... While first place in Ursiiday's 1,651 person tournament on February 15 went to the classic Charizard Ex deck, which hasn't changed much since launch, the second place trophy was seized by a new build. This Lightning/Metal deck combines the efforts of some of the best single-point Pokémon cards to come out of Space-Time Smackdown, which saw it claim 13 wins and only three losses on Saturday. Rockstar Games are considering letting GTA 6 players modify the game’s map by way of Roblox and Fortnite-style creation mechanics, according to a report. The idea is that people can make and sell their own “custom experiences”, as they do in those games - expanding upon the existing customisation opportunities in GTA Online. This might even extend to featuring real-world sponsors, rather than the parody versions of familiar brands we encounter in GTA 5. Read more View the full article
I really, really like Is This Seat Taken? It might just be that this logic puzzler stick its thumb out noticeably from the omnipresent gaggle of post-roguelite survivalyptic soulsbuilder decklikes, but I suspect it's also down to the deeply satisfying bloopy twinkle ***** that plays whenever you drop someone into a seat with your floating hand cursor. You've got a limited number of seats and a bunch of jolly demand-os, and it's your job to make them all happy. "I want to sit with Bob". "I need a window seat". "I forgot to shower". "I do not like bad smells". So you quarantine the nostril bombers in the back of your limo, make sure everyone else is happy, and drive off to the next level. There, you'll take the role of a cinema usher. Some punters want to sit next to someone with popcorn so they can steal it, and some want to wear massive cowboy hats that block those behind them. It's all quite simple, but robust, and just thoughtful enough to lightly tickle your synapses, like a gentle grizzly bear wielding an illustrious peacock feather. Read more View the full article

Out of all the big strategy games - Civilization 7, Stellaris, Cities Skylines 2, Manor Lords - Europa Universalis feels like the biggest, in the literal sense. Sweeping, historical, and immensely detailed, it's now 12 years since the first arrival of EU4. Developer Paradox Tinto has kept it alive with DLC and updates, but the time for a full sequel feels nigh. The enigmatic 'Project Caesar,' which Paradox has been gradually revealing over the past several months, may well be the new Europa Universalis game. All the devlogs so far have pointed in that direction - but the latest makes a telling little hint that Europa Universalis 5 is indeed on the way. Read the rest of the story... During a house clearout I recently discovered a cache of creative writing from my teenage years. Naturally, I now consider most of it to be unbearable. Reading certain notebooks makes me feel as though my stomach is mounting an upwards assault on my brain. BURN IT, scream the parts of said brain that have learned the perils of starting poems with "O Muse". BURN IT ALL. Nonetheless, I felt bad about being mean towards my adolescent self, so I popped all those misbegotten papers in a giant suitcase. It squats next to me right now as I type these words, like a mausoleum filled with dead albatrosses. Similarly mixed emotions appear to inform Amphora Hell, in which you play an amphora (read: ancient species of vase) with legs. The amphora is the work of the Kilnmaster, a terrible Olympian force who is sort of one part Hephaestus to one part shmup villain. The Kilnmaster has just decided that he hates his amphora with legs and wishes to destroy it with flying hammers. "No evidence of my failure must remain," he bellows in the Itch preamble. "Prepare to be scrapped!" You play the amphora. Read more View the full article
I tend to play Total War: Warhammer 3 closer to an RPG than a strategy game. Balance? Leave me alone, for I am immersed in the stinky fantasy of being a sniveling Skaven bin-*******, commanding my slaves to mine useless gold purely because it irritates my dwarfish enemies. As such, I'm not quite as tuned into the nuances of enemy faction behaviour as a lot of players, despite my ungodly hour count. I do miss fighting against large enemy empires though, something the AI seems more reluctant to pull off these days. Creative Assembly seem to think so, too. A new blog post outlines the changes they're making to AI, and there's an experimental beta branch available right now if you want to test them out. Read more View the full article

If you're looking to get all of the achievements in Avowed, then you're going to need to summon a bear to fight another bear. Doing so will unlock the 'Two Bears High-Fiving' achievement in Avowed. It's also just a pretty cool spectacle to sit back and watch, so let me run you through the process. Two Bears High-Fiving achievement guide in Avowed First, you need to be able to summon a bear. This is done by unlocking the 'Bear Ally' ability from the 'Ranger' skill tree. This can only be purchased with one ability point once you reach level 15, so you're not going to be able to do this until you're a good 15-20 hours into the game. Screenshot by Destructoid Now that you can summon a Bear Ally, make your way to Emerald Stair and head to the northeast section of the map, near where the Ranger Headquarters is. Just to the west of this, you'll find a sunken area with shallow water. Alongside some of the mushroom monster enemies, you'll find a bear wandering around here (as long as you've not killed it already). Screenshot by Destructoid Clear out the mushroom enemies yourself and then summon your bear ally. Ideally, summon it as the bear enemy is near you, and they should lock on to one another. Let them fight it out for a bit, occasionally landing an attack or two yourself, and eventually, the achievement should pop. Bear locations in Avowed If you've already killed the bear northwest of the Ranger Headquarters, there are some others you've hopefully not killed yet (as enemies don't respawn). I advise searching around the west of Emerald Stair, near the Rock Arch Beascon fast travel point just east of The Delemgan Glade. Screenshot by Destructoid Here, you'll find two bears among other enemies that can be killed. The further you venture into Dalamagn territory toward the queen, you'll encounter some other bears, so this can be a good area to search. Alternatively, go back to Dawnshore and explore the forest areas to the east of the main city and the map in general. Specifically, visit the wooded areas on the map around Yellowband Camp, east of the Shrine to Woedica, and south of the Emerald Stair Gatehouse. I've circled each of these in red on the map screenshot below. Screenshot by Destructoid I found a few bears wandering around these locations and given you don't have to venture out this way for any main quests, there's a good chance you'll find a bear that you've not yet killed. Alternatively, you'll find a bear or two wandering the forest areas in the Overgrown Frontier on the west side of the Dawnshore map. All bear ally upgrades You can also make it easier to unlock this achievement by purchasing the Rank 2 and Rank 3 upgrades for the Bear Ally ability. I've listed each of these, when they're unlocked, and what they do below. Rank 2 (unlocked at level 18): Your bear ally roars when summoned, taunting enemies and increasing the damage it deals. Rank 3 (unlocked at level 20): Increases the duration of your bear ally summon by 15 seconds. By increasing its damage and the duration your bear ally will stick around for, you've got more chance of your bear actually engaging in a fight with another bear, and dealing heftier damage that should register to unlock the achievement. I managed to get it without either upgrade, but if you're having problems, this should help you out. That's everything you need to know on how to summon a bear to fight another bear in Avowed. For more help on your adventures across the living lands, we've got guides on where to find the Voice's memory in Dawnshore and Shatterscarp, as well as how to get Paradisan Ladder, Hylea's Talon, and Admeth's Wyrt. Officially announced in 2017, development began in 2013 but was struck by multiple delays along the way. Destiny 2’s The Nether brings players back to the Dreadnaught for some loot and some good old-fashioned secret hunting. Solving each puzzle grants you a chest with some episodic loot and seasonal resources, so it’s usually worth undertaking. Not all puzzles spawn in a run, though, so some of these may be unavailable. Dawnshore is the first major area in Avowedand is where you will first come across a special category of side quests that includes treasure maps and clues pointing to locations of unique weapons and armor. Treasure maps are purchased from vendors around the Living Lands for a moderate amount of Skeyt and always have some interesting and cryptic clue alongside an image depicting physical structures or landscapes where the treasure is located. Dawnshore has three available treasure maps and treasure chests: the Intimidating Feline Codpiece, Woedica's Inheritance, and Captain Henqua's Spoils. View the full article
