  1. Epic Games has announced that Fortnite's OG Ranked Zero Build servers will soon be shut down, which will start with numerous servers on March 4. Fortnite recently rolled out Chapter 6 Season 2 of its main battle royale mode on February 21, bringing all-new locations and a revamped loot pool to the game. While the title as a whole appears to be thriving, it seems as if some of Fortnite's smaller game modes could be suffering. View the full article

  4. I don't watch a lot of reality TV. While I'm happily wiling away the hours with Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows and Marvel's Agatha All Along, game shows and television drama just don't do it for me. The Boulet Brothers Dragula is the one exception, however. Drag, filth, horror, and glamor collide in a competition that wears its heart on its sleeve, and while I've dropped off since it was locked behind a Shudder subscription, it's easily one of my favorite TV shows. That's why I was so excited when Behaviour Interactive revealed its DBD Boulet Brothers collab, but sadly it appears to have fallen into obscurity since Season 6 concluded. Well, until now. 6. It's been a big week for Team Fortress 2's modding community (well, specifically a big eight days, but let's call it a week for convenience). Last Tuesday, Valve finally released The Team Fortress 2 SDK, updating the Source SDK with all the netcode gubbins from its 2007 shooter, thereby enabling players to "build completely new games based on TF2." Now, one of the best existing Team Fortress 2 mods is formally coming to Steam, making it easier to play than ever... Read more.View the full article
  7. Careful, Sim fans... The Burglar is back. The Burglar, a familiar sight for those of us who've spent time with any of the older Sims games, is sneaking back into your life as part of the latest update for The Sims 4. Rolling out across PC and console, the update (re)introduces Robin Banks, which means it's time to hide your valuables well out of sight. She only strikes at night, usually only sneaking into homes when everyone's asleep, but she has been known to attempt a daring heist even when Sims are awake... so be alert. To combat the thief, Sims can make use of the handy burglar alarm. If Banks trips it, the police are guaranteed to turn up in time to arrest her and recover your goods. But even homes without an alarm can call the police, you just have to be quick about it. Or there's vigilante justice, of course. It's your call. By design, burglar events are fairly unusual, but if you live for chaos, activate Lot Challenge Heist Havoc to boost your odds. "We are so thrilled to finally bring the Burglar back into The Sims universe," The Sims' team wrote. "Sending a special shout out to our full team for making this a reality. Robin Banks isn’t just ready to rob your Sims’ houses — she’s here to steal your hearts too! What better way to celebrate The Sims 25th Birthday than with this nostalgic yet fresh addition? We hope you’re as excited as we are to see what kind of chaos Robin Banks will bring to your households." The Sims 4 may be 10 years old — and the series itself 25 years old — but last year, it attracted over 15 million new players. In EA's Q2 earning report, published towards the end of last year, we learned that The Sims 4, then a premium game, took four years to reach 20 million unique players. When it first went free-to-play in 2022, however, it gained a whopping 31 million new players out of the gate and reached a total of 85 million as of May 2024. And no, there's currently still no plans for The Sims 5 at this time… Plum! Vikki Blake is a reporter, critic, columnist, and consultant. 8. If you head over to the Steam Next Fest charts right now, Valve will offer you a glimpse of the 2,228 games offering free downloadable demos as part of the event through Sunday, March 3. That is way too many games to effectively evaluate in such a short time, even with the massive resources of the Ars Orbiting HQ. But we haven't let that stop us from trying. With the assistance of some early access provided by Valve and game publishers, we've spent the last few days playing dozens and dozens of the most promising Next Fest demos in an attempt to pull out some interesting-looking needles from Valve's massive haystack. Below are the results of that search—a varied list of 11 titles we think are worth investing some time (and zero dollars of money) into a demo download. But this is just a starting point. Please use the comments below to share any other diamonds in the rough you think your fellow Ars readers need to know about. Read full article Comments View the full article
  9. Company of Heroes 3 could be about to mount a comeback. At launch, back in 2023, it felt like the enemies weren't smart and tactical enough and like a lot of key features were missing. The map selection was pretty slim, the inventory system was basic, and the visuals didn't seem like that much of a step up compared to CoH 2. With the iconic Commandos series about to make a comeback and Tempest Rising reviving the essence of Command and Conquer, Relic needs to step up its WW2 RTS game. Thankfully, the new Company of Heroes 3 2.0 update and the Fire and Steel DLC seem like the perfect next chapters. Read the rest of the story... 12. The long-awaited Path of Exile 2 patch 0.2.0 will bring a major change to one of the most underwhelming parts of its endgame. As it continues to work on the ARPG's next big update, developer Grinding Gear Games reveals an overhaul to Atlas map towers that should make them a lot more engaging. 21. Tekken 8 veteran Anna Williams is returning to the roster, and while her redesign seems to be going down well with most fans, some aren't so sure and are even comparing her new look to Santa Claus. When one fan asked Tekken game director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada if the development team could bring back the "old Anna design," Harada slammed the criticism, saying: "If you prefer the old design, I am not taking those away from you." "While 98% of the fans are welcoming this, there will always be people like you," Harada wrote. "I understand and sympathize that it may not suit your personal taste, but if you prefer the old design, past works already exist. I am not taking those away from you. "Also, you refer to yourself as 'Anna fans,' as if you represent all Anna fans, but you should express your opinion as an individual. "You threaten to quit if she isn’t brought back. You complain the moment she is brought back. You demand that she be reverted after she has been completely redesigned from scratch, including her model and framework," he added. "And if she actually were reverted, you’d just say, 'That’s recycling!' "Either way, your method of expressing your opinion and the content of your argument are entirely unconstructive, utterly pointless, and, above all, disrespectful to the other Anna fans who are genuinely looking forward to her." When another commenter pointed out that Tekken "hasn’t rereleased one of [its] older games into modern systems with functional netcode" and summarized Harada's response as "a joke," the director said: "Thank you for POINTLESS reply. You yourself are the joke. MUTED." As mentioned, reaction to Anna's new design is largely positive, although there are some complaints, mostly around her outfit. "Before she was announced I was hoping for an edgier, angry, violent Anna out for revenge for her fiance's death and so I'm quit happy with this design!" said redditor AngryBreadRevolution. "The hair is growing on me. It really suits the outfit and personality well. It wont look good on all her outfits naturally, but her original bob will still be available. "Coat was ruined for me when it was pointed out the resemblance to Christmas. The leotard, tights, boots and gloves all look fantastic though so looking forward to being able to take off the coat." "Love everything but the white feathers," said troonpins. "It’s giving Santa Clause." "Aside from looking like Santa Claus, she looks a lot younger than she did in Tekken 7 and before," added Cheap_Ad4756. "She looks like less of a 'woman' now and more like a girl. I don't get the dominatrix vibe from her at all anymore." "Horrible," declared spiralqq. "It’s another overdesigned T8 look, feels like almost every costume in this game lacks a real focal point and everyone is just decked out in 100 bulky accessories from head to toe. I’d like it a lot more without the coat, or at the very least if the whole outfit didn’t look like Santa cosplay. You can’t have a bright red coat with white fur trims and a ****** belt and read as anything other than Santa." What do you think of Anna's the new outfit coming from Tekken 7? byu/PrimaSoul inTekken .reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; } Tekken 8 has sold 3 million copies a year from release, achieving the sales milestone at a faster pace than Tekken 7, which took 10 years to sell 12 million copies worldwide. "Tekken 8 is an amazing new entry in the long-running series," we wrote in IGN's Tekken 8 review, awarding it 9/10. "Interesting tweaks to its classic fighting systems, a full suite of fun offline modes, great new characters, incredible training tools, and a vastly improved online experience all add up to a fighting game I will be playing for many years to come. By honoring its legacy, but continuing to move forward, Tekken 8 manages to stand out as something special." Vikki Blake is a reporter, critic, columnist, and consultant. 22. As is the thing with closed alpha games, you expect them to go through changes constantly. Deadlock’s latest update, however, pushes the envelope even going by that metric. It’s an entirely overhauled map layout, accompanied by a new last-hitting mechanic and a whole host of other smaller changes. The headliner of the Feb 25 Deadlock patch is, of course, the three-lane layout. In a sense, this brings the new kid in the block closer to its sister MOBA Dota 2 and other games in the genre. As you might expect the consequences of amputating one lane out of the game, the whole map underwent an overhaul. View the full article
