  2. ****** Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3 Reloaded has brought in not one, not two, but three events to commemorate Call of Duty's traditional 4/20 event. It's a bit late to the party, but the show must go on. High Art has already kicked off for the season, and now it's Blaze of Glory's turn. Here's how to play and get rewards in BO6 and Warzone. Table of contentsHow to play the Blaze of Glory event in BO6 and WarzoneAll Blaze of Glory event rewardsWhen does the Blaze of Glory event end in BO6 and Warzone? How to play the Blaze of Glory event in BO6 and Warzone You can collect Blaze Bucks and exchange them on the Event page while the Blaze of Glory is active. ****** Ops 6 players can acquire this currency through eliminations, while Warzone users can open up supply caches. The Blaze Bucks aren't guaranteed to drop every single time, so you'll have to grind through several rounds to collect all the rewards. Screenshot and remix by Destructoid To get the Blaze Bucks fast, you can participate in the 4/20 themed modes, like Blazetown 24/7 and Joint Operations. Warzone also has a unique mode with High Trip Resurgence. Opening caches here will net you both Blaze Bucks and Shade abilities, giving you more bang for your buck. Once you gather five or more Blaze Bucks, head over to the Blaze of Glory section to meet up with Seth Rogen. He acts as the event host, sounding off a few hilarious lines to keep you entertained. You'll also get a sneak peek at the final reward, which will differ in design for BlackCell users. All Blaze of Glory event rewards Each Blaze of Glory reward requires a certain amount of Blaze Bucks, starting with five and ending with 100. Unlike High Art, all gifts are shrouded in mystery, so you never know what you'll get. If you're more of a Zombies fan, you can sink your teeth into the Frost Blast, creating a blizzard that slows down enemies. You can think of it as another Ice Staff, but with limited uses One of the last rewards is the Highly Decorated Camos, which features a familiar leafy animated skin. BlackCell users will gain a gun coated in ****** instead of its standard green and purple design. Screenshot by Destructoid When does the Blaze of Glory event end in BO6 and Warzone? ****** Ops 6 and Warzone's Blaze of Glory event concludes on May 15. High Art will also wrap up by then, presumably ending all of Call of Duty's 4/20 events. On the bright side, a double XP weekend will occur while it's active, earning you rewards faster. You can then look forward to the C.O.D.E. Got Your Six event when the two celebrations conclude. This event will undoubtedly provide you with more gifts as we approach the launch of BO6 and Warzone Season 4. 3. As a big fan of Bungie's gunplay and game design, I was fully ready to embrace Marathon as my first extraction shooter. But after the closed alpha test and today's new Destiny 2 DLC reveal, I'm ready to move on. While daunting since it's yet another complicated reinvention of the game and its variety of machinations, Destiny 2's 2025 expansions The Edge of Fate and Renegades both look and sound awesome to me. Marathon, on the other hand, seems like it's missing quite a bit to snag its target demographic of fans of the genre. Image via Bungie Destiny 2 is definitely more my speed—and always has been. I have well over 2,000 hours logged in the game across Steam, Battle.net, and some dabbling on console, and it's one of my all-time favorite games and series. And this is the only reason why I was excited to try out Marathon. But after testing out the extraction shooter during its alpha test, I left feeling anything but hopeful about it. And then Bungie dropped an awesome reveal for Destiny 2's Year of Prophecy and its two expansions, and now I'm ready to abandon the idea of Marathon entirely. With The Edge of Fate launching on July 15 and a major update "Ash & Iron" coming on Sept. 9, Marathon's launch now sits directly after it and in between the first DLC and its second, Star Wars-inspired Renegades, which is coming on Dec. 2. I'm already overwhelmed by the amount of varied games I can and need to play, and this sort of launch window doesn't bode well for me in Marathon even if I was super stoked to get into it. I'm really not sure what to think about Marathon, but it seems like a lot of the game's target audience has made up its mind. Days after Marathon's closed alpha began, another ARC Raiders test dropped and seemingly took up all of the talk after that, inevitably leading gamers to compare the two games of the same genre and leaving Marathon in the dust by comparison. With only so much time and money to spend on games, I do really worry about how Marathon will fare as a premium-priced title, especially since I know I'm not the only gamer like me who was keeping an open mind about the game if only because of my love for Destiny 2, and are now basically ready to abandon the extraction game for the classic looter shooter. And maybe that's okay? I'm not the main audience for Marathon, because that would be those who thoroughly enjoy the thrill of the game mode where you put everything on the line and can lose it all. Me? I'd rather just stick with my silly superpowers and PvE gameplay. Image via Bungie I don't want to lose all of my hard-earned gear by someone who was sitting invisibly in a corner with a shotgun and waiting for me to go by. That's not fun to me. If it is for you, then I'm thrilled, and I absolutely wish nothing but the best for the game and I hope it is a big success for Bungie. But it ain't for me, I reckon. Gaming in modern times is indeed a marathon and not a race. But as of now, I think I'll find myself sprinting back to Destiny 2 before long. The post My only interest in Marathon was as a Bungie fan. Now? I’d rather just play Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  4. Two months after annoying everyone by promising that its development team was still "hard at work" on "exciting things" for Starfield that it refused to talk about, Bethesda rolled out a decidedly unexciting new update in Steam beta that adds a Very Low display setting, makes a few changes to the Creation Kit, and fixes some bugs... 7. Every month, Valve releases the results of its hardware survey, and the results are usually predictable, especially when it comes to what graphics cards most people are using. Most months, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 – or an equivalent XX60 class card from another generation – is on top. And while the RTX 4060 is technically the top GPU on Steam right now, this time it's the mobile version. Since December 2024, the RTX 4060 for gaming laptops has grown from 4.19% of Steam's userbase to 4.99% of it. That seems like a minor change, but in the same time frame the RTX 3060, which has been the the most popular graphics card for a while shrunk from 5.01% to 4.72%, allowing the mobile GPU to take the lead. This is the first time in my memory that a mobile graphics card was at the top of the list. Why Gaming Laptops? Why Now? It's no secret that graphics cards are getting more expensive. Even the RTX 4060 is leagues more expensive than its equivalent was in the pre-RTX days. And while gaming laptops certainly aren't cheap, when you take the marked-up prices retailers attach to GPUs into consideration, it actually starts to make sense to just grab a gaming laptop and call it a day, especially if you need more than just a graphics card. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 for laptops isn't the most powerful GPU in the world, either, but it is still enough to play most games at 1080p without much of a struggle, moreso if you disable niceties like ray tracing and enable DLSS. It's not surprising that's enough for a lot of people, especially as we start to contend with the prospect of everything getting more expensive. That's probably also a factor in why the only current-generation GPU that makes it into Valve's report is the RTX 5070 Ti, and that's coming in with just 0.27% of the playerbase. That puts it behind the GTX 1030, a cheap graphics card that launched 8 years ago, and it was bad back then. I've been hearing gaming laptop manufacturers tell me for years that gaming laptops are the future or whatever, but now that a laptop GPU is sitting securely at the top of the Steam Hardware Survey, I'm actually starting to believe it. After all, when everything costs an arm and a leg, it starts getting really hard to justify dropping $1,000 on a graphics card, even if it comes with Multi-Frame Generation, or whatever Nvidia's next big thing will be with the RTX 6080. The Future of PC Gaming The magic of PC gaming is that it's flexible. While playing games on PS5 requires you to have one specific piece of hardware, you can basically configure a PC however your heart (or budget) requires. There are games out there like Assassin's Creed Shadows that can bring the RTX 5090 to its knees, but that's not why PC gaming is awesome. Instead, the indie games that spring up out of nowhere are where the real magic happens, and you don't need super-expensive hardware to tap into that. I don't think high-end gaming PCs are going anywhere, but this hardware survey makes it pretty clear that the niche is shrinking a little bit. Instead, mid-range gaming laptops and handheld gaming PCs are starting to look like the way many people will engage with PC games going forward. Over the next year or so, as RTX 5000 laptops become more common and the AMD Z2 Extreme powers up next-gen gaming handhelds, it's going to be interesting to see if desktop graphics continue to shrink, or if this was just a brief hiccup. 8. The Destiny 2 community has finally gotten a proper look at the year ahead for the game, but the heavily Star Wars-inspired Renegades expansion that was revealed during the recent developer livestream event was on very few fans' bingo cards. While players will get to jump into an all-new adventure themed around the Nine when the Edge of Fate expansion releases later this year on July 15, Destiny 2's Renegades expansion, releasing in December, will offer new Star Wars cosmetics, a distinctly space western flavor, and lightsabers. 10. Payday 3 hasn't been quite the success its maker and players might've hoped it would be. As the third entry to one of the most popular series of co-op games to date, expectations were high for the latest from creator Starbreeze Studios. Unfortunately, the FPS has struggled to meet those expectations, failing to grab attention from players content with multiplayer competitors like Helldivers 2, GTFO, or even Payday 2. While Starbreeze has continued to work on the game, issuing fairly regular updates, the latest move by the studio seems to be the most consequential to date: acquiring Payday 3's publishing rights. 17. While Bungie is obviously quite busy presumably stressing over lukewarm responses to its next game Marathon, they're still working on a bunch of Destiny 2 stuff. The studio revealed a plethora of expansions today, all of which are building up a new "multi-year saga" called the Fate Saga. We'll get to it in a moment, but one of these expansions might raise an eyebrow, as it is quite literally a Star Wars crossover, but is also described by narrative designer Alison Luhrs as one that will push the Fate Saga "forward in important ways and introduce characters that we're going to spend time with for years to come." 19. Intel has revealed that it's experimenting with direct CPU water cooling, where an Intel CPU package has a waterblock built onto it to remove as much heat as possible from the chip. The company has apparently been working on the tech for years, and says that the system can dissipate a massive 1,000W of thermal energy using standard liquid coolant. Removing heat from the CPU as efficiently as possible has become a huge market in recent years, with many of the best CPU coolers featuring closed-loop liquid cooling systems, where a waterblock and pump unit are attached to the CPU. However, there would be no need for a waterblock if these Intel prototype designs become standard, as it would already be a part of the CPU. Read the rest of the story... 20. What are the secret room codes in Warzone? Verdansk is back and, arguably, better than ever. Season 3 was a throwback to the very beginning of the iconic battle royale map, and although it had a touch-up in the graphics department, it was the same rip-roaring fun as we remember. Season 3 Reloaded looked to enhance that further, with one of the additions being secret rooms full of loot. Those from way back in the early Warzone days will remember these secret rooms: heavily contested during the initial drop, it was about who could survive the initial firefight, then who had the secret room codes to hand to unlock them. We've collected all the locations of the secret rooms in the battle royale, and more importantly, the codes you need to unlock them. Read the rest of the story...
