Blizzard Entertainment initially planned to give her a more menacing look as she was supposed to have dead, blank eyes. In the final version of the game, her eyes were changed. Overwatch 2 fans have criticized Blizzard for changing Widowmaker’s eyes (Image via Blizzard Entertainment) Over the years, many have argued that Blizzard made a mistake by changing her eye design as it completely took away her intimidating, unsettling vibe. Some changes were made to her design when Blizzard moved on to Overwatch 2, however, her menacing eyes still didn’t make it. Many players love the original eye design as they believe it would fit her overall personality. Blizzard Entertainment Changed Widowmaker’s Design Before Overwatch‘s Release Her original eye design was much more unsettling (Image via Blizzard Entertainment) Widowmaker is probably one of the most intimidating characters in Overwatch 2, however, she could’ve been far more menacing if Blizzard didn’t get rid of her original eye design. A player on the r/Overwatch subreddit replaced her eyes in all the artworks for the game to show how different her eyes could’ve been. Posts from the overwatch community on Reddit Her initial concept art convinced many players that she was supposed to be a character that barely had any expressions. Not everyone is a huge fan of this redesign as many pointed out that it looked hilarious, but they admitted that this perfectly fits her “no emotion” persona. Blizzard made some changes to Widowmaker when Overwatch 2 was released but many were disappointed to learn that she still didn’t have the original eyes. Overwatch 2 was dominating the hero shooter genre, however, another game is now attempting to take the crown. Marvel Rivals Might Kill Overwatch 2‘s Hype Marvel Rivals has managed to cut down Overwatch 2‘s popularity (Image via Blizzard Entertainment) In December 2024, NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals was released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. It quickly became a worldwide sensation but many pointed out that it featured elements that were similar to Overwatch 2. Despite being a close copy, Marvel Rivals has managed to overtake Overwatch 2 as the game has already broken some major records. The character designs in Marvel Rivals are certainly far better than the ones in Overwatch 2. The redesign of Widowmaker just proves that Blizzard’s approach to designing its characters was not the best. Marvel Rivals is indeed an exciting game, but it’s too soon for it to take the crown as players have started discovering its flaws. The game has been accused of using a rigged matchmaking system in order to increase profits as many have claimed to be playing matches with bots. During the peak of the outage on Saturday 38,000 homes were without power, as of Monday morning 34,000 have had power restored leaving around 4000 still without power. The areas which remain the worst impacted are Balga, Mullaloo, Dalwallinu, Ledge Point and Dandaragan. Camera IconThousands of homes are still waiting for power after a sprinkle of rain sparked dozens of pole-top fires across the State. Credit: Western Power According to Western Power, many of the outages were due to a mix of infrastructure damage caused by pole top fires, drop out fuse trips, and bushfires. A spokesperson for Western Power said all available crews had been mobilised to assist with repairs. “Following works today (Monday), we anticipate a lot of these customers to be restored by this evening,” they said. “Due to the volume of incidents and complex repair work required in some areas, there may be some customers across the network who remain without power again overnight. “We also have helicopters patrolling in the Midwest to help our crews find faults quicker and speed up restoration times.” The spokesperson said impacted residents were being kept in the loop and once power is restored could . “Impacted customers are being contacted directly via SMS. Restoration time updates will also be made available on the Western Power Outages page as soon as they are known,” they said. “Customers who have experienced an outage for longer than 12 consecutive hours can apply for an extended outage payment via Extended Outages Payment once power is reconnected.” Source link #Power #outages #Thousands #Mullaloo #Dalwallinu #Ledge #Point #electricity Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Harley Benton teams-up with YouTuber on a budget-friendly, versatile signature model – the Guitar MAX Fusion Harley Benton teams-up with YouTuber on a budget-friendly, versatile signature model – the Guitar MAX Fusion When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: Harley Benton NAMM 2025: Budget champion Harley Benton has introduced a brand-new signature model – the Guitar MAX Fusion Signature – in collaboration with heavy metal guitarist and YouTuber Maxxxwell Carlisle. The Guitar MAX Fusion Signature features a bolt-on neck design with a 25.5” scale length, a Nyatoh body with wooden binding and an ultra-flame maple veneer, and a Floyd Rose 100 tremolo with a locking nut, which, according to Harley Benton, “keeps the tuning in check” even with “the most vicious whammy bar use.” Other specs include a roasted flame maple neck with a classic reverse headstock and fingerboard. The neck boasts a modern “C” profile, while the fingerboard has a flat 12” radius and is loaded with 24 stainless steel medium jumbo frets. Rounding off the Guitar MAX Fusion Signature’s specs are Tesla Plasma-X1 and Tesla Plasma-RS2 pickups in the bridge and neck positions, respectively – delivery “screaming leads to funky rhythms, and everything in between.” A mini-toggle switch allows players to toggle between humbucker and a coil-split single-coil-style voice for added tonal versatility. To top it off, the guitar comes in a “striking” Emerald Green finish that is sure to turn heads. The popular YouTuber had previously addressed concerns about his signature model and debunked myths surrounding the brand, which is owned by *******-based retailer Thomann. He clarified that his signature guitar is not made in China but in Indonesia, a popular manufacturing hub for many leading guitar brands – including the recently launched $599 Fender Standard Series. Credit: Harley Benton “My signature guitar and the Fusion series, and certainly all of the guitars that have roasted necks and things like that – those are all Indonesian-made.” He also addressed the confusion surrounding the Harley Benton brand, clarifying that the name was chosen simply because it sounded good – and was not modeled after a particular founder. Despite this, it is clearly cementing its position in the budget-friendly guitar market, most recently announcing an all-new twin humbucker S-style electric guitar inspired by Tom DeLonge’s signature Strat, launched in 2023. The Guitar MAX Fusion Signature is available in Emerald Flame, Purple Flame and Holographic finish options, priced at $435. For more information, visit Harley Benton. 7. Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A26 Surface on TUV Rheinland Website Ahead of Launch: Report Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A26 Surface on TUV Rheinland Website Ahead of Launch: Report Following the debut of the flagship Galaxy S25 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event last week, Samsung is expected to launch three more smartphones soon. The phones, Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26, have now been spotted on a certification website, which suggests their imminent debut globally. The listing also sheds light on the charging capabilities of all three models; the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 may support the same fast wired charging capability as the South Korean technology conglomerate’s recent flagship S-series phones. Samsung Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26 Listing According to a Gizmochina report, all three phones have surfaced on the TUV Rheinland website — a Cologne-based organisation for global testing, inspection, and certification of products. The Galaxy A56 reportedly appears bearing the model numbers SM-A566B/DS, SM-A566B, SM-A566E/DS, and SM-A566E. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A36 may be available in SM-A366B, SM-A336B/DS, SM-A366E, SM-A366E/DS, SM-A366U, SM-A366U1, SM-A366W, SM-S366V, and SM-A3660 models. While the rumour mill has suggested quite a few details about the two aforementioned purported smartphones, the TUV Rheinland website also suggests that the launch of another model in the numbered series could be imminent. The device, Galaxy A26, is listed with SM-A266B/DS, SM-A266B, SM-A266M/DS, and SM-A266M model numbers. The listing also reveals that the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 will have support for 45W fast charging. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A26 will support slightly slower charging at 25W. FCC Certification The purported Samsung Galaxy A56 was also reported to be listed on US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website bearing the model number SM-A566E/DS. The listing reveals that it will be equipped with Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and GNSS support for connectivity. While the phone is reported to support charging at 10V 4.5A (roughly translating to 45W), it appears in the FCC database with the Samsung EP-TA800 adapter, which is rated for 25W wired charging. 9. Sweden seizes ship after suspected Baltic Sea cable sabotage Sweden seizes ship after suspected Baltic Sea cable sabotage Swedish authorities have seized a ship suspected of damaging a data cable running under the Baltic Sea to Latvia. Prosecutors said an initial investigation pointed to sabotage, and an inquiry has been launched involving Sweden’s police, military, and coast guard. Earlier on Sunday, Latvia’s military reported that two ships were seen in the area where the damage occurred. The apparent attack comes less than a month after Nato launched a new mission in the Baltic Sea in response to repeated attacks on underwater power and telecom cables – some of which have been blamed on Russia. Latvian Prime Minister Evika Selina said her country was working closely with Sweden and Nato in response to the incident. The cable belongs to Latvia’s state broadcaster, LVRTC, which said in a statement there had been “disruptions in data transmission services”, but that end users would be mostly unaffected. Earlier this month, Nato launched its new “Baltic Sentry” mission, after several cables under the Baltic Sea were damaged or severed in 2024. Nato chief Mark Rutte said the mission would involve more patrol aircraft, warships and drones. While Russia was not directly singled out as a culprit in the cable damage, Rutte said Nato would step up its monitoring of Moscow’s “shadow fleet” – ships without clear ownership that are used to carry embargoed oil products. Rutte said there was “reason for grave concern” over infrastructure damage, adding that Nato would respond to future incidents robustly, with more boarding of suspect vessels and, if necessary, their seizure. Finnish police late last year said they were investigating whether a Russian ship was involved in the sabotage of an electricity cable running between Finland and Estonia. 11. If You Invest $1,000 Per Month in the S&P 500, Here’s How Much Dividend Income You Could Have in 30 Years If You Invest $1,000 Per Month in the S&P 500, Here’s How Much Dividend Income You Could Have in 30 Years I’m a big fan of investing in individual stocks. At the time of this writing, I own about 35 individual stocks in my portfolio, and I believe it’s entirely possible for active investors to beat the market over long periods of time. However, that doesn’t mean you need to own individual stocks to create wealth over time. In fact, although I own a bunch of individual stocks, I have a large portion of my portfolio in low-cost index funds, including the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO). In any given year, the S&P 500’s performance can vary dramatically. In fact, since 1965, the S&P 500 has produced total returns as high as 38% or as low as negative 37%. But over long periods, the S&P 500 has produced 9%-10% annualized returns depending on the exact ******* you’re looking at. And you might be surprised at how much wealth the average person can create by simply investing early and regularly in the S&P 500. As legendary investor Warren Buffett has said, “It is not necessary to do extraordinary things to get extraordinary results.” Of course, while the S&P 500 has been a reliable wealth creator over very long periods of time, there’s no way to predict its performance with complete accuracy. If you’re investing over a 30-year *******, it’s impossible to know exactly what kind of annualized returns you’ll achieve. VOO Total Return Level data by YCharts. So, for the purposes of this discussion, we’ll assume that the S&P 500 will average 9.5% annualized total returns for the entire time you’re invested. Some years, it will be more, some less, but we’ll assume that over the three-decade *******, you’ll get this. (Note: This is a historically conservative assumption. Since 1965, the S&P 500 has averaged 10.2% total returns.) We’ll also assume that you will reinvest any dividends you receive along the way. With that in mind, if you were to invest $1,000 per month ($12,000 per year) into an S&P 500 index fund at a 9.5% growth rate, here’s how your money could grow over time: Time Total Amount Invested Ending Value at 9.5% CAGR 5 years $60,000 $72,535 10 years $120,000 $186,724 15 years $180,000 $366,483 20 years $240,000 $649,467 30 years $360,000 $1,796,250 Data source: Author’s own calculations. Assumes a 9.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) and dividend reinvestment. In short, if you put $1,000 into an S&P 500 index fund every month and achieved a 9.5% annualized return, you’d end up with about $1.8 million after 30 years. Story Continues As of Jan. 2025, the dividend yield of the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF is about 1.2%, which is very low from a historical perspective thanks to the current concentration in mega-cap tech stocks that generally pay little or no dividends. But even at this low yield, a $1.8 million investment would produce $21,600 per year in dividend income. However, the S&P’s median dividend yield since 1960 is about 2.9%. While there’s no way to know what the S&P 500’s dividend yield will be in 30 years, using this historical average would mean that a $1.8 million investment would produce about $52,200 in annual dividend income. Of course, this analysis made a lot of assumptions. And it’s important to point out that in 30 years, or whenever you reach retirement age, you likely won’t continue to keep all your money invested in stocks. Smart asset allocation would involve gradually moving some of your money into fixed-income instruments, like bonds and CDs, which generally have higher yields and are more stable. But the point of this is to show the long-term compounding power of a seemingly boring investment and how it’s entirely possible to retire with millions of dollars (or much more) without learning stock analysis or doing much homework. Before you buy stock in Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF wasn’t one of them. 12. Super Bowl LIX projections, analysis: Chiefs meet Eagles in rematch of 2022 game Super Bowl LIX projections, analysis: Chiefs meet Eagles in rematch of 2022 game For the third straight season and for the fifth time in six years, the Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the Super Bowl. The two-time reigning champions held off the Buffalo Bills in a 32-29 thriller Sunday night in the AFC Championship Game and will now look to make NFL history by winning three Super Bowls in a row. To do it, they’ll have to take down a familiar foe. The Philadelphia Eagles demolished the Washington Commanders, 55-23, on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game and will now look for vengeance against a Chiefs team that vanquished them in the Super Bowl two seasons ago. The Athletic’s NFL Projection Model, created by Austin Mock, reveals each team’s odds of winning the Super Bowl before Jeff Howe breaks down the Super Bowl LVII rematch. Chances to win the Super Bowl Super Bowl LIX preview So they’ll do it again. The Chiefs and Eagles will meet on the Super Bowl stage for the second time in three years, this time with the Chiefs trying to close out the first three-peat in league history. Head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes have a chance to win their fourth Lombardi Trophy in six years. And it was all set up Sunday night when the Chiefs capped off their fourth consecutive victory against quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills in an elimination game. It was the Chiefs’ 17th straight win in a one-possession game. The Chiefs held off the Eagles, 38-35 in overtime, two years ago in the Super Bowl. The Eagles will get their chance at revenge in Super Bowl LIX. The Eagles will be as confident as ever, coming off a 55-23 blowout of the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game to make amends for their only loss in almost four months. And considering quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered an early concussion in that Week 16 loss to the Commanders, the Eagles can even excuse that December blemish. The Eagles, who have won 15 of their last 16 games, scored a season-high 55 points against their division rivals. It marked their highest scoring output since 2010 and their second-most points in postseason history. It was also the most points ever scored in a conference championship game. Defensively, Vic Fangio’s top-ranked unit forced four turnovers and tallied three sacks and four QB hits to stifle a Commanders offense that averaged 31.3 points during its seven-game winning streak. The Eagles have 34 takeaways over their last 14 games. The most important development, however, was Hurts’ big-time performance. He finished 20-of-28 passing for 246 yards and a touchdown, and he added three scores on the ground to erase the memories of a couple of shaky performances in prior playoff victories against the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams. Hurts’ game management at the line of scrimmage was terrific, too. He checked into the call that led to running back Saquon Barkley’s 60-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then his own 9-yard scoring keeper in the third quarter. If the Eagles play with that type of composure in the Super Bowl, they’ll likely be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the second time in seven years. And let’s not forget about the most reliable offensive force on the planet. Barkley racked up 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns against the Commanders, so he’s now got 442 rushing yards and five scores in his first playoff run with the Eagles. Barkley has three rushing touchdowns of at least 60 yards over the last two weeks — now the most such runs by any player in postseason history. But can Hurts crack the code that Allen hasn’t? The Chiefs were supposed to be vulnerable. They were supposed to be struggling by their standards. It was supposed to be Allen’s year, or Lamar Jackson’s year or the Lions’ year. And yet, here are the Chiefs and Eagles. Again. Chiefs. Eagles. AGAIN Philadelphia and Kansas City meet for the second time in three years to decide the Super Bowl. pic.twitter.com/q5zuiJ64m1 — The Athletic (@TheAthletic) January 27, 2025 Mahomes finished Sunday 18-of-26 passing for 245 yards and a touchdown against the Bills, and he added 43 yards and two scores on the ground. Pedestrian numbers for him, yet the Chiefs punted just twice and were in constant control. He also only got a couple catches for 19 yards out of tight end Travis Kelce. But that’s the danger in facing the Chiefs. Mahomes relied upon wideouts Xavier Worthy (six catches, 85 yards, one touchdown), JuJu Smith-Schuster (two catches, 60 yards) and Marquise Brown (three catches, 35 yards) before clinching the victory with a 17-yard toss to third-string running back Samaje Perine on third-and-9. The Chiefs defense might be the most important force in the Super Bowl matchup. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit, which allowed the fourth fewest points in the NFL, forced two turnovers on downs over the Bills’ final three possessions. Sure, there will be contention over the fourth-down spot over Allen’s failed sneak, and tight end Dalton Kincaid’s egregious late drop deserved an assist. But look at the way the Chiefs continue to win these games. There’s a real talent in making winning plays, and the Chiefs have repeatedly shown it while their opponents have fallen short of the standard. Have the Eagles made enough progress over the past two years? The Chiefs are 6-5 all time against the Eagles, including the Super Bowl victory, although the Eagles beat them, 21-17, in the 2023 regular season. The Chiefs are also 4-2 in the Super Bowl, while the Eagles are 1-3. 14. Chiefs hold off Bills to set up Super Bowl rematch with Eagles, keep three-peat bid alive Chiefs hold off Bills to set up Super Bowl rematch with Eagles, keep three-peat bid alive KANSAS CITY — A year ago, while the red, white and yellow confetti rained down during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Patrick Mahomes spoke of what his team would be playing for come 2024. “I am going to do whatever I can to be back in this game next year,” Kansas City’s quarterback said. “Three-peat.” Even in the euphoria of a second straight world championship, Mahomes knew what would be at stake the following season, a chance to accomplish something no franchise has in the 58-year Super Bowl era: three titles in a row. Nearly 12 months later, Mahomes and the Chiefs have earned their shot at history. With a 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs have secured their spot in Super Bowl LIX, where they’ll face the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It’s a rematch of the Chiefs’ 38-35 win in Super Bowl LVII two years ago. SEE YOU BACK IN THE BIG GAME, @EAGLES. pic.twitter.com/xRxhpau4XD — Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) January 27, 2025 Kansas City’s staggering run of success continues: this is a team that simply refuses to lose. The Chiefs have now won nine straight playoff games and 17 straight one-score games. Their last postseason defeat came way back in the 2022 AFC Championship Game. It’s also the fourth time Mahomes and the Chiefs have beaten Josh Allen and the Bills in the playoffs since both became starters in 2018. It took six lead changes. It took two touchdown runs from Mahomes, who threw for another and finished with 288 all-purpose yards. It took a vital stop by the Kansas City defense on a fourth-and-1 early in the fourth quarter, then another on fourth-and-5 with two minutes left and Buffalo’s season hanging in the balance. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo brought the all-out blitz, and Allen was forced to heave a prayer downfield under heavy pressure. Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid couldn’t haul it in. From there, the Chiefs melted the clock away and a familiar scene unfolded: the celebration was on in Kansas City. It will be the Chiefs’ fifth Super Bowl appearance in the past six seasons, and Mahomes, coach Andy Reid and tight end Travis Kelce will be shooting for their fourth title together. A win would move the franchise into a tie for the second-most Super Bowls ever, with five, behind only New England and Pittsburgh, who are tied at the top with six each. GO DEEPER Chiefs turn controversial 4th down call into go-ahead TD in AFC Championship How Kansas City got here (again) The Chiefs will arrive in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX having defeated every opponent on their schedule. Led by Reid and Mahomes, the Chiefs also gave their fans a dream season in Arrowhead’s 52nd season: They went undefeated in all 10 home games, including the postseason. With one game left, the Chiefs can add even more to their legacy, which will be remembered long after Reid is no longer on the sideline looking at his laminated play sheet, when Spagnuolo has stopped blitzing, when the trio of future Hall of Fame players — Mahomes, Kelce and Chris Jones — already have their gold jackets. The Chiefs will face the Eagles in the Super Bowl, a final 60 minutes, or more, to cement their place among the greatest dynasties in NFL history. GO DEEPER Like the Patriots, Chiefs dynasty has left shattered legacies, fractured franchises in its wake Perhaps the most impressive part of the Chiefs’ journey was how they navigated the grind of yet another long season, one that featured significant injuries to valuable contributors — receivers Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, running back Isiah Pacheco, cornerback Jaylen Watson, defensive end Charles Omenihu and kicker Harrison Butker. The Chiefs still won 15 games in the regular season, victories in which they scored 30 or fewer points, the most in NFL history. The Chiefs outlasted the Bills and the Houston Texans largely because almost every veteran, except for Rice, returned for the postseason run. The Chiefs entered the playoffs as the AFC’s healthiest and most-rested team, ingredients that gave them a sizable advantage on their path to New Orleans. — Nate Taylor, Chiefs staff writer WHEELS STILL SPINNIN’ pic.twitter.com/p9L7w06KQ3 — Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) January 27, 2025 Bills exceed expectations but this loss is a bitter pill Lowered preseason expectations don’t matter when you reach the AFC Championship Game. The Bills were on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance. Losing so late in the tournament — and to that opponent — is disheartening. But the Bills weren’t supposed to get this far when everyone was predicting what would happen in 2024. Even fans were cautious and perhaps a little pessimistic after the club moved on from so many important players, including several captains: receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, center Mitch Morse, cornerback Tre’Davious White and safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde. Once it was clear general manager Brandon Beane wouldn’t sign a whopper free agent or trade up for a receiver, everyone wondered where the offensive production and leadership would come from. Analysts had little trouble forecasting the AFC East would belong to the New York Jets or Miami Dolphins. As such, Bills ****** can rationalize this defeat easier than previous eliminations. Aside from a vocal, malcontented *********, grumpy fans won’t call for Sean McDermott to lose his job as loudly as they did after 13 Seconds. These Bills exceeded expectations. But they bowed to the Chiefs yet again, a stinging trend. Buffalo has enjoyed lopsided success over Kansas City in the regular season — even at Arrowhead Stadium — but has been unable to win when the stakes are dearest. For five years, Reid and Mahomes have been the measuring stick, and for five years, Buffalo has come up short. — Tim Graham, Buffalo senior writer Josh Allen dives for a first down during the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs. (Photo: David Eulitt / Getty Images) Buffalo’s bright future The Bills, however, showed fascinating growth. Moving on from Diggs had the desired effect of addition by subtraction. Allen evolved as the no-doubt organizational leader teams dream about from their quarterback. His numbers weren’t as flashy as Lamar Jackson’s, but Allen is a deserving MVP as a one-man show who clinched a fifth straight AFC East crown with five games to spare. Receiver stats were so smeared around that Mack Hollins’ five receiving TDs led the team. Top target Khalil Shakir ranked 27th in catches and 40th in yards leaguewide. Tight ends Dawson Knox and Kincaid weren’t nearly as productive as anticipated. James Cook rushed for an amazing 16 touchdowns, but he touched the ball less than he did a year earlier. Buffalo’s nickel-based defense also grew with first-time play caller Bobby Babich. Takeaways were ridiculously abundant. Stopping the run was a concern for much of the season, and the pass rush disappeared at times. The Bills ranked 22nd in yards per play, but they also played with the lead so often that their bend-don’t-break philosophy was wise. Overall, though, the defense was good. The season went smoothly. There were no crazy injury circumstances, no off-field scandals, no in-season firings. Refreshingly, 2024 was all about football players and football games. The most fascinating development was the Week 7 trade for receiver Amari Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowler. The offseason has gone well already. The most notable bit of turbulence would have been offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s departure for a head-coaching gig, but he’ll be back in 2025. Brady withdrew from the New Orleans Saints’ coaching search Saturday and committed to returning. Brady has been marvelous since taking over for Ken Dorsey two months into the 2023 campaign. Despite another loss to the Chiefs blocking the Super Bowl path, the Bills’ championship window remains wide open. A soft reset turned into a dominant campaign that contributed to Jets owner Woody Johnson firing his coach and GM, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft firing his hand-picked Bill Belichick successor after one season and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross dealing with his biggest star wanting out because of all the losing. So 2024 wasn’t the Bills’ time. But this organization’s time isn’t up. Not nearly. — Graham Required reading (Photo: Jamie Squire / Getty Images) Source link #Chiefs #hold #Bills #set #Super #Bowl #rematch #Eagles #threepeat #bid #alive Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  15. Trump is searching for potential TikTok buyers — who are the likely contenders? Trump is searching for potential TikTok buyers — who are the likely contenders? President Donald Trump wants a US investor to take a major stake in ByteDance’s TikTok. Several parties are in contention even as potential buyers face a litany of legal hurdles and barriers. After stepping in to restore TikTok in the US and delaying a law that would effectively ban the app, Mr Trump is looking for avenues to keep the popular platform afloat. He has put forward a proposal for an American stakeholder to buy the company and then sell a 50 per cent stake to the US government, which will jointly run the app along with the private party. Mr Trump reportedly said Saturday that he was in talks with multiple people over buying TikTok and that he would likely decide on its future in the next 30 days. So, who are the likely contenders for one of the most popular apps in the U.S.? Elon Musk Mr Trump has already flagged several major investors within his inner circle as acceptable buyers, one of which is Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk. The world’s richest person is leading Mr Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency, has close business ties to China and has voiced opposition to the TikTok ban. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that the ******** government was considering a plan to have Mr Musk acquire TikTok’s US operations, citing anonymous sources. That followed a report from the Wall Street Journal, which claimed TikTok’s chief executive had been soliciting advice from Mr Musk ahead of Trump’s inauguration. CNBC was unable to reach Mr Musk for comment. “Elon Musk continues to be front and centre as a potential bidder for TikTok which likely includes some tech partners/outside investors to get a deal done,” financial services company Wedbush Securities said in a research note on Wednesday. “Musk would be hand picked by Beijing and his ironclad relationship with Trump would make this a very logical choice in our view,” the note added. Nat Schindler, an analyst at Scotiabank, also noted that Mr Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has demonstrated his interest in global social media platforms. However, he also sees some potential obstacles for the tech tycoon. “Musk is under fire already for owning X and the perception that he is using it to promote certain political ideas, and any involvement in TikTok could draw additional fire and potentially antitrust scrutiny,” Ms Schindler said. Larry Ellison Mr Trump has also said he’d “like” to see Oracle chairman Larry Ellison purchase the platform. Mr Ellison, a longtime Trump supporter, stood beside the President at a press conference on his AI infrastructure investment plans last Tuesday, where Mr Trump was asked questions about a potential TikTok deal. “What I’m thinking about saying to somebody is, buy it, and give half to the United States of America. Half and we’ll give you the permit,” Mr Trump said before turning to Mr Ellison to ask if the deal sounded reasonable. “Sounds like a good deal to me Mr President,” Mr Ellison replied. Mr Ellison and his company are currently at the centre of the TikTok dilemma, operating as a cloud infrastructure provider for ByteDance in the US. Given its existing relationship with TikTok, Oracle and is “directly invested in TikTok’s success in the region,” Scotiabank’s Ms Schindler said. Mr Ellison had bid for TikTok, along with Walmart, back in 2020 when Mr Trump first pushed for a ban on the platform. Neither company responded to CNBC’s request for comment. Mr Trump had approved of the Walmart-Oracle deal in principle, which would’ve seen the tech and retail giants partner to take over the video-sharing app in the US, avoiding a shutdown. However, the Trump administration’s attempt to ban TikTok in the US fell through in the face of legal challenges. Mr Ellison later joined a group of investors that helped Mr Musk buy social media platform Twitter, now known as X, in 2022. ″[We believe] Oracle/Ellison could play a pivotal role in any deal given their key technology partnership with TikTok and his appearance at the White House with Project Stargate,” Wedbush said. Wedbush added that it expects a slew of TikTok bids to come over the coming weeks from a host of players with Mr Musk and Mr Ellison leading the pack. According to a National Public Radio report on Saturday, the Trump administration is working on a plan to save TikTok that would involve Oracle and a group of outside investors effectively taking control of it global operations. Perplexity AI California-based artificial intelligence search engine startup Perplexity AI submitted a bid for TikTok to ByteDance on January 18, as it seeks to create a new merged entity combining Perplexity, TikTok US and new capital partners, CNBC learned. Following Mr Trump’s comments on a TikTok deal structure, the AI company revised its merger proposal on Sunday to also allow for the US government to own up to 50 per cent of the new company upon future IPO, according to a proposal document seen by CNBC. The document proposes ByteDance offer TikTok US, without its recommendation algorithm, in exchange for the company’s existing investors receiving equity in the merged company. The deal would reportedly bring more video to Perplexity — recently valued at about $US9 billion ($14.3b) — as it gains increasing investor interest amid the generative AI ***** and competes with OpenAI and Google. Big players, serious money Experts flagged several other parties likely to be interested in a potential deal for TikTok, adding that the barriers to entry were high. Given the financial stakes of a TikTok deal, it’s unlikely that some rogue investor is going to swoop in and buy the platform on the cheap, Paul Triolo of Albright Stone Group told CNBC. “While an up-to-date valuation on TikTok is difficult to come up with, it is likely to the order of $US40b-$US80b, meaning whoever decides to jump in has to be ready with some serious money,” he said. He added that potential suitors are likely to include some of America’s largest social media and technology players, such as Meta and Google, in addition to Mr Musk’s X. Meta and Google didn’t immediately respond to a CNBC inquiry. Sarah Kreps, the director of the Tech Policy Institute at Cornell University, however, warned that players such as Meta, Google and Mr Musk getting a substantial stake in TikTok could raise antitrust questions. Ms Schindler noted that there were also a number of other players, including existing investors BlackRock, Coatue, and General Atlantic, who own a large chunk of TikTok’s parent company. According to him, some of these investors are likely to participate in any ***** of the US platform by investing in the new entity. “Other large VCs, hedge funds, and asset managers from Tiger to Fidelity would also likely show interest in a fast growing global platform with such a huge viewer base,” said Schindler, adding that finding investors to own a part of Tiktok won’t be a problem. MrBeast The fervour surrounding a purchase of TikTok US has also seen some unconventional players enter the fray. Social media superstar MrBeast — real name Jimmy Donaldson — who has more than 100 million TikTok followers has posted several videos in which he indicated serious interest in buying the platform, claiming he has had talks with billionaires. In one video, the internet personality claimed he had an official offer ready, jesting that he might be the new TikTok CEO. Media reports have also mentioned Mr Donaldson and a group of investors preparing to make a bid for TikTok. On Thursday, Matthew Hiltzik, a spokesperson for Mr Donaldson, told CNBC that: “Several potential buyers are in ongoing discussions with Jimmy, but he has no exclusive agreements with any of them.” ‘The People’s Bid for TikTok’ Led by Project Liberty founder Frank McCourt and involving ********* businessman and TV personality Kevin O’Leary, The People’s Bid for TikTok, has made a $US20b cash offer to buy TikTok. Mr O’Leary told CNBC last year that he wanted to buy the platform at a discount as any possible deal won’t include TikTok’s original algorithm. The organisation said it already has a replacement for the algorithm to use for TikTok US. Following Mr Trump’s comments on a 50 per cent stake in the platform, both Mr McCourt and Mr O’Leary told CNBC this week that they were interested in a TikTok deal and were hoping to work with Mr Trump to make it happen. Mr McCourt has also told CNBC that he wants TikTok to run a decentralised social networking protocol, or DSNP, overseen by the Project Liberty Institute, a non-profit founded by the billionaire. Bidding interest aside, a number of legal and tech experts have told CNBC that Mr Trump’s executive order to delay the TikTok ban contradicts the Supreme Court’s earlier ruling to uphold the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act and could face legal opposition. Mr O’Leary also told CNBC last Monday that a TikTok deal could not happen under the current law, after the Supreme Court upheld an impending ban on TikTok under the Act on Sunday. Beijing and its pending negotiations with Mr Trump regarding trade with the US is also expected to play a determining factor in whether the ******** government would allow ByteDance to make a divestiture. “In this game of high stakes poker between the Trump administration and Beijing it’s clear TikTok is a big chip on the table,” Wedush said. 16. Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts lead Eagles’ return to Super Bowl, beat Commanders in NFC title game Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts lead Eagles’ return to Super Bowl, beat Commanders in NFC title game By Mike Jones, Brooks Kubena and Ben Standig PHILADELPHIA — Two years after they blew a third-quarter lead and lost Super Bowl LVII to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles will receive their long-awaited shot at redemption. Powered by three touchdown runs by Saquon Barkley, three rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown from quarterback Jalen Hurts and four forced turnovers (three by the defense and one on special teams), the Eagles defeated NFC East rival Washington 55-23 to secure the NFC championship Sunday evening at Lincoln Financial Field. With that, Nick Sirianni and his team punched their ticket to New Orleans, where on Feb. 9, they will try to resolve unfinished business. They will face the winner of Sunday night’s AFC Championship Game between the Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. Sunday’s victory marked the continuation of the dominance that Barkley has delivered in his first season with the Eagles. Following up a regular season in which he rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, and two playoff games with a combined 324 rushing yards, Barkley gashed the Commanders for 118 yards and the three touchdowns on just 15 carries — his lightest workload since Week 9. Hurts, meanwhile, delivered his most productive outing of the postseason, passing for 246 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 16 yards and three touchdowns. Hobbled by a knee injury late in the divisional round victory over the Los Angeles Rams, Hurts missed practice time this week. However, he displayed no ill effects of the injury Sunday while recording the fourth three-touchdown game of his career. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s defense forced three turnovers in containing Daniels and the Commanders offense. The last time the divisional foes met (Week 16), Daniels passed for five touchdowns, including the strike with six seconds left to lift his team 36-33. This time around, Daniels managed just one passing touchdown while completing 29 of 48 passes for 255 yards and also threw an interception. Daniels did score on a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It took no time for the Eagles to assert their authority Sunday afternoon. After an 18-play, 54-yard scoring drive that ended with Washington settling for a 34-yard field goal, Philadelphia’s starting offense took the field midway through the first quarter, and Barkley promptly delivered a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. SAQUON BARKLEY ON THE FIRST OFFENSIVE PLAY FOR PHILLY The Eagles are leading. The Linc is rocking. @NFLpic.twitter.com/G6P2kU1bWZ — The Athletic (@TheAthletic) January 26, 2025 The Eagles defense forced a Dyami Brown fumble near midfield on the next Washington possession and six plays later, Barkley found the end zone again on a 4-yard run to give his team a 14-3 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter. Washington pulled within 14-12 with a Zane Gonzalez field goal and 36-yard catch-and-run by Terry McLaurin, but then the first half ended poorly for the Commanders. A defensive pass interference call in the end zone on cornerback Marshon Lattimore set up the Eagles for a 1-yard Hurts touchdown on the sneak. On that play, Lattimore got into a scuffle with Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown and drew an unnecessary roughness call. On the ensuing kickoff, Washington return man Jeremy McNichols fumbled on the return and Philadelphia recovered at the Commanders’ 24. Seven plays later, Hurts connected with Brown for a 4-yard touchdown strike, and Jake Elliott nailed the PAT to complete a 13-0 swing for the Eagles. Washington scored a 42-yard field goal with two seconds left in the quarter and the teams entered the locker rooms with the Eagles enjoying a 27-15 lead. Hurts extended the Eagles’ lead to 34-15 with the 9-yard run, which capped the opening possession of the second half. Daniels and the Commanders responded with a scoring drive of their own as the rookie slipped through the line for a 10-yard run. But from there, the Eagles scored three unanswered touchdowns, the third coming from their backups with 3:03 left on the clock. “Super Bowl. The goal wasn’t just getting there. The goal is to win.” pic.twitter.com/2pRkzFUD0O — NFL (@NFL) January 26, 2025 Nick Sirianni’s quick course corrections pay off Two years ago, after losing 38-35 in the final seconds of Super Bowl LVII, Sirianni noticed a piece of red and yellow confetti stuck to his shirt. “I have to do everything I can to help our guys get back to this moment,” the head coach thought. He’d share that gutting moment days later, along with the agonizing words that tore at the fabric of a franchise that thought its era of suffering was over: “We were close.” The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl after defeating division-rival Washington. It took them two years — a swift return if viewed through the lens of the NFL’s long-languishing teams. But this is an organization that expected to fully capitalize on its talent-laden roster. An 11-win season and playoff berth in 2023 was considered a massive failure due to its cataclysmic collapse. Sirianni, publicly cornered and questioned, underwent his first-ever staff overhaul to ensure he wouldn’t again underserve his players with stale schemes. General manager Howie Roseman maintained stability on a roster that experienced a massive transition in leadership. Franchise pillars Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox retired. Their successors, Cam Jurgens and Jalen Carter were both named first-time Pro Bowlers in their first seasons in their new roles. Philadelphia’s front office spent last offseason locking up a young core around a franchise quarterback playing on a max deal. Hurts, 26, will start in his second Super Bowl under a contract that keeps him in Philly deep into this decade, along with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson and Jordan Mailata. But it was the new faces that secured this franchise’s fifth run at a Super Bowl. No one influenced this season more than Barkley. Signed from the division-rival New York Giants, set loose within newly hired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore’s run-oriented system, Barkley broke multiple team records while becoming the NFL’s ninth player to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single year. The Eagles leveraged Barkley’s brilliance behind an enviable offensive line against a top-ranked defense that features candidates for Defensive Player of the Year (Zack Baun), Rookie of the Year (Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean) and Assistant Coach of the Year (Vic Fangio). Some say Sirianni is a snub for Coach of the Year, considering the course corrections the Eagles took after last year’s collapse. Even at the start of this storybook season, the Eagles signaled trouble during their 2-2 start. But now, they’re a win away from the city’s second Super Bowl title. When Sirianni sees confetti again stuck to his shirt in New Orleans, much has been invested to ensure its color is green. — Brooks Kubena, Eagles beat writer Washington fans can dream big, even after a loss We know the sports fan instinct after a loss: Some form of anger, bewilderment or shouts to the heavens. Grieve as needed after the Commanders fell to the rival Eagles when a win would have put Washington in the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1991 season. But remember what this unexpected joy ride meant. This team exceeded any realistic hopes long ago. The Commanders went from a 4-13 record last season to reaching the franchise’s first NFC Championship Game in 33 years. After years as a league embarrassment, Washington became an NFL darling. The sheer number of wins (12-5 in the regular season) and defeating the NFC’s top seed, Detroit, on the road was stunning. Competing against the rival Eagles — for most of Sunday’s game, anyway — for a trip to New Orleans was the cheesesteak on top. Even though the Commanders’ success came way earlier than expected, the vision from the team’s new football thinkers was pure logic. Washington’s offseason set in motion, as head coach Dan Quinn framed the plan, a “recalibration” to turn the team without a playoff victory since the 2005 season into a perennial contender. Mere competency from the ownership box raised the potential. Managing partner Josh Harris’ faith in GM Adam Peters to handle the needed organizational retooling and Quinn as the culture commander started Washington on the right path. Peters didn’t break the bank in free agency or solely target NFL combine heroes in the draft. Washington wanted competitive players with leadership traits to help establish a standard and turned over half the roster to get there. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner, rookie cornerback Mike Sainristil, tight end Zach Ertz and holdover wide receiver Terry McLaurin are among the many who did that. This isn’t the most talented roster, but an elite sum-of-its-parts group. Then, there is Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It’s bizarre to grade a player, rookie or otherwise, and never use the red pen. But what is his flaw? His dual-threat capabilities are deadly. You would need 10 minutes to show all the pinpoint throws and clutch moments. The 24-year-old never gets rattled. After watching him direct five game-winning drives and two playoff road wins, no lies were detected. Daniels helped McLaurin show the league he is a true No. 1 receiver, and cover up flaws on both sides of the ball. Daniels’ execution of Kliff Kingsbury’s scheme erased questions about the offensive coordinator’s play-calling potency. Daniels’ read-option prowess gave life to Quinn’s aggressiveness on fourth down. The Pro Bowler directed Washington to wins in blowout fashion, fueled victories on the final play from scrimmage in five consecutive weeks and showed his team that he’s a leader without one look-at-me moment. And, most of all, he gave hibernating Commanders fans a reason to re-emerge from their hiding places or state of ambivalence. To poke their heads out and not fear ridicule or regret. To believe that the team’s annual QB search is over and to proudly root for the burgundy and gold. Super Bowl appearances are never guaranteed. For the first time in years, the potential to dream big isn’t crazy. And that’s a win, even in a loss. — Ben Standig, Commanders beat writer Required reading (Photo: Emilee Chinn / Getty Images) Source link #Saquon #Barkley #Jalen #Hurts #lead #Eagles #return #Super #Bowl #beat #Commanders #NFC #title #game Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

(WMBD) — Fears about immigration raids in local schools continue to keep hundreds of children at home. On average, 200 students whose second language is English stayed home from Peoria Public Schools this past Wednesday (253 students), Thursday (198 students) and Friday (140 students), according to PPS spokesperson Marjorie Kauth. That’s about 14% of 1,453 English learning students who are not showing up across the school district. “It makes me feel very, very sad. I’m like, why do we have to? Like, how did we end up in this place? The kids aren’t criminals. They’re just little children trying to be educated,” said PPS Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat. Kherat said parents are worried their kids will be snatched from school. Her heart breaks for families who are scared during these uncertain times. They have a very close relationship with the teachers, and the teachers protect them. So I’m hoping the teachers can also continue to reach out to them to let them know that we are truly a safe haven,” she said.
