Medical examiner ID’s 2 teens, 17 and 16, who died after being found unresponsive in locked car in Hoffman Estates
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (WGN) — Two teenagers who were found unresponsive inside a locked vehicle and subsequently pronounced dead overnight in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates have been identified, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office (CCMEO).
The two teens were identified by the CCMEO as 17-year-old Yeferson A. Flores Ramos and 16-year-old Litzy Flores.
The Hoffman Estates Police Department said they are now conducting a death investigation, but they say a preliminary autopsy indicates the cause of death appears to be accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Authorities identify man responsible for deadly explosion in Cicero
According to police, officers responded just after 12:30 a.m. to the 200 block of East Berkley Lane, along with the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, for a report of two people inside a locked vehicle who appeared to be unconscious and not breathing.
Upon arrival, police and fire officials located a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl who were both unresponsive. After emergency personnel forced entry into the vehicle, police say the teenagers were extracted and immediately given life-saving measures.

Mark Cuban Says ‘I’m Dumb, I Can’t Figure Out How To End World Hunger’ But Promises To Keep Pushing For Affordable And Universal Healthcare
Mark Cuban isn’t afraid to admit when he doesn’t have the answers. When challenged about his wealth and its potential to solve world hunger, Cuban responded, “I’m dumb. I can’t figure out how to end world hunger.” But while he admits he doesn’t have all the answers, he’s making it clear that his focus is on fixing the broken healthcare system in the U.S.
It all started when a user on Bluesky, Cameron Polson, called out Cuban, saying, “This dude could LITERALLY end world hunger and would barely affect his net worth and he chooses not to.” Instead of ignoring the claim, Cuban responded, “I’m in! Tell me how.” Another user pushed back harder, saying, “If you can’t figure out how your money could help end hunger, then you aren’t quite as smart as you think you are.”
Don’t Miss:
Cuban, known for his sarcasm, shot back with, “I’m dumb. I can’t figure out how to end world hunger.” But he soon changed the topic to something he is now working on: lowering the cost of healthcare.
While Cuban might not have the solution for world hunger, he’s making waves in another critical area. He emphasized that he is fully committed to changing the way Americans access and afford medication, something he has been working on through his company, Cost Plus Drugs.
“I do promise that I will continue to change healthcare in this country and make it more affordable, possibly setting a path towards Universal Healthcare,” he said.
Trending: ‘Scrolling To UBI’ — Deloitte’s #1 fastest-growing software company allows users to earn money on their phones. You can invest today for just $0.26/share with a $1000 minimum.
Cuban has long been vocal about the failures of the U.S. healthcare system, particularly when it comes to drug pricing. His company sells medications with a flat 15% markup, eliminating the middlemen that drive up costs. Since launching in 2022, Cost Plus Drugs has expanded to over 2,500 medications and is already pushing major industry players to reconsider their pricing models.
Cuban has many times spoken out against pharmacy benefit managers, saying they have become too focused on making money. He believes they were originally supposed to help lower drug prices, but now they are just trying to control more of the industry and raise profits.

Why Bennett ‘curse’ won’t spook Woolf out Dolphins door
Why Bennett ‘curse’ won’t spook Woolf out Dolphins door
New Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf has been backed to cast his own spell on the post-Wayne Bennett “curse”, despite head coaches who succeeded him in the NRL previously encountering all kinds of doom and gloom.
Coaches who have followed new South Sydney mentor Bennett the five times he has left NRL clubs previously have been sacked after their first, second or third year following total implosions.
Before they took over, however, none of them had the resume of Woolf, who won three Super League titles at St Helens and turned Tonga into a global powerhouse during his decade as head coach.
It is why former Redcliffe Dolphins star Chris Close, who was selected for Queensland while playing for the club in 1980, has ultimate faith Woolf will not be spooked by the curse after taking over from Bennett.
“Kristian couldn’t give a stuff about any of that curse stuff,” Close told AAP.
“He is not coming in like the coaches when Bennett left the other clubs.
“What the critics haven’t taken into account is Kristian Woolf’s coaching record. He is not a new coach.
“He’s had great results in Super League and with Tonga, and spent the last two years under the greatest coach where he has been able to sit back, without any pressure, and find areas where he can grow that team so.they will have a better year than the first two.
“I am excited for the Dolphins now that Kristian has got his independence. That is not a reflection on Wayne Bennett. It is just an endorsement that Kristian will bring what we need to see.”
An analysis of post-Bennett history in the NRL provides an insight into what Woolf is up against and why the great Mal Meninga once famously said that following the supercoach was like “drinking from a poisoned chalice”.
Ivan Henjak was the first coach to sip from the dreaded goblet. He took over when Bennett left Brisbane at the end of 2008, and made the preliminary final the following year.
The 2010 season was a disaster. The Broncos finished 10th and Henjak was sacked, never to be sighted in the NRL again.
Next stop for Bennett was St George Illawarra, and after a finals appearance in 2011, following on from a title win in 2010, he departed for Newcastle.
His assistant Steve Price missed finals the following two seasons and was axed mid-year in 2014 with the Dragons in 13th place.
Bennett exited Newcastle at the conclusion of the 2014 season and his successor Rick Stone did not last the 2015 season as the Knights “won” the first of three consecutive wooden spoons.
The six-time premiership winner hot-footed it back to the Broncos, where he had the best win-rate in four seasons of any coach apart from Melbourne’s Craig Bellamy. He was sacked at the end of 2018, Anthony Seibold took over and the Broncos reached the finals. The 2020 season was a calamity, with Seibold dumped and the club “winning” its first wooden spoon.
Bennett had three strong years at South Sydney and left to set up the Dolphins after reaching the grand final in 2021.
His assistant Jason Demetriou made the preliminary final in his first year before it all fell apart, missing the finals and then being marched when the Rabbitohs slipped to last after eight rounds.
Bennett’s two years in charge of the Dolphins were regarded as a success, despite missing finals both years. Largely tipped to finish last and barely win a game, the Dolphins finished 13th and 10th.
Dolphins prop Josh Kerr said the transition to Woolf in 2025 had been seamless.
“People forget that we all knew internally that Woolfy was going to take over when Wayne left,” Kerr told AAP
“Last year Wayne gave leeway to Woolfy to let him coach a lot more, and he has had a huge say on recruitment.
“I understand why people talk about a curse because Wayne has been so successful, but Woolfy is just as good. There is no beating around the bush. He is real direct and knows what he wants.
“There have been different scenarios at other clubs when Wayne has left, but we have built from the ground up with Woolfy.
“We will go better than the first two years. There won’t be a curse. Of course, a lot of this is talk until we put results on the board for Woolfy.”
Bennett has his work cut out at the Rabbitohs to turn around a 16th-placed finish last year after losing Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray to long-term injuries in the pre-season.
Weather permitting, he will be back at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night to take on the Dolphins.
Dolphins forward Max Plath summed up why he expects the supercoach to turn around the Rabbitohs and have them firing in the round-one clash
“We have been put in those positions the last two years as well with our backs against the wall, and Wayne got us up for those big games,” Plath said.
‘We know exactly what he is going to do and what they are going to bring. We have to be ready. We can’t get punched first. We have to go after them.”

J.D. Vance Asked About Being ‘Putin’s Puppet’ While Skiing in Vermont, On Video
J.D. Vance Asked About Being ‘Putin’s Puppet’ While Skiing in Vermont, On Video
J.D. Vance may have been hoping for a relaxing weekend of skiing up in Vermont … but, instead he nearly got taken out by another skier — and called “Putin’s puppet” by someone else on the mountain.
The vice president headed up to Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont for a weekend away from D.C. … and, he hit the mountain Saturday on a pair of skis.
TMZ.com
Check out video of the Veep obtained by TMZ … you can’t see his face, but eyewitnesses swear it’s him, and he’s been photographed skiing in a similar jacket. He’s making his way down pretty slow — though his technique looks good as glides across the fresh powder.
Everything goes well for J.D. … before one skier gets taken out by another — and nearly slams into him. The skier stops short — but, it’s probably closer than the Secret Service would’ve liked.
At least one person on the mountain clearly wasn’t a Vance fan ’cause he was asked how it feels to be “Putin’s puppet” while he headed toward the ski lift. Vance doesn’t take the bait, just saying hello and moving on with his day.
Of course, the war in Ukraine is fresh in the minds of many Americans who watched Vance and President Donald Trump get into a tense back and forth with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office Friday.
Donald Trump Explodes at Volodymyr Zelensky in Oval Office Confrontation
As we told you … Vance said Zelensky should thank Trump for attempting to save his country by looking for a diplomatic solution to the war and said Zelensky was being “disrespectful” for litigating the war in front of the American people.
Many weren’t happy with the way Trump, Vance and Zelensky conducted themselves during the meeting … and many in Vermont made their feelings known by protesting Vance’s arrival in town.
The signs vary from calling Vance a traitor to saying the cows in the area have more intelligence than him. Worth noting, Kamala Harris dominated in Vermont … winning nearly twice as many votes as President Trump in the state.
So, looks like J.D.’s on vacation … though how much he’s enjoying it certainly isn’t clear.

Crowds gathered in a Vermont town on Saturday to protest Vice President JD Vance’s visit to a local ski resort, the day after his explosive Oval Office clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Protesters lined a main thoroughfare in Waitsfield, Vermont, located near the Sugarbush Resort where Vance and his family were vacationing. They held signs that said, “Vance is a traitor go ski in Russia,” “Trump serves Putin” and “Vance disgraces our country,” among other fiery messages.
A small group of protesters also gathered at the Sugarbush Resort, though a spokesperson for the resort said it was largely a “smooth day overall” at the slopes.
“There were a handful of protestors at the resort throughout the day, but all were peaceful and none were disruptive,” said John Bleh, a public relations and communications manager for the resort.
The demonstration was planned ahead of the Trump-Zelenskyy Oval Office meeting to “protest the destructive and ******** actions of the Trump/Vance administration,” according to an announcement posted by the Mad River Valley chapter of the activist group Indivisible. But many signs expressed support for Ukraine and rebuked Trump and Vance’s treatment of Zelenskyy.
The clash erupted Friday at the White House when Zelenskyy visited Washington, D.C., to complete a deal to give the U.S. access to rare earth minerals in Ukraine as part of a broader effort to end the three-year-old war, which started when Russia invaded its Democratic neighbor.
The meeting at the White House devolved into a tense shouting match, with Trump and Vance accusing Zelenskyy of not being grateful enough for U.S. support for Ukraine. Trump told Zelenskyy he was “gambling with World War III” if he did not reach a peace deal.
Ahead of Vance’s visit, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott issued a statement on Thursday welcoming the vice president and his family to the state.
“I hope Vermonters remember the Vice President is here on a family trip with his young children and, while we may not always agree, we should be respectful,” the Republican governor said in a statement. “Please join me in welcoming them to Vermont, and hoping they have an opportunity to experience what makes our state, and Vermonters, so special.”
Vance’s team didn’t immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the protests.

Man Utd ****** out of FA Cup in Fulham shoot-out drama
Man Utd ****** out of FA Cup in Fulham shoot-out drama
Manchester United’s woes have worsened after the holders crashed out of the FA Cup with a penalty shootout defeat to Fulham.
Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee had spot kicks saved after the fifth-round game had ended 1-1 after extra time at United’s Old Trafford home on Sunday.
Fulham’s ******* goalkeeper Bernd Leno was the hero as Fulham won 4-3 in the shootout and advanced to the quarter-finals.
United had to come back from 1-0 down at halftime after Calvin Bassey headed Fulham in front just before the break, before Bruno Fernandes levelled the game to send it to extra-time.
Earlier, former United striker Danny Welbeck fired Brighton into the last-eight with an extra-time winner against Newcastle.
Welbeck, a two-time winner of the famous trophy with Arsenal, came off the bench to seal a 2-1 win at St. James’ Park.
With the game locked at 1-1 and seemingly heading to a penalty shootout, Welbeck produced a brilliant finish in the 114th to lift the ball over Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from a narrow angle.
The 34-year-old former England forward had timed his run perfectly to beat Newcastle’s offside trap and meet Solly March’s through-ball. Despite running away from goal, he managed to turn and clip his shot into the back of the net.
Newcastle had led 1-0 through Alexander Isak’s penalty in the 22nd, but Yankuba Minteh leveled in the 44th.
Both teams had players sent off in the second half — Anthony Gordon for Newcastle in the 83rd and Tariq Lamptey in added time.
Fabian Schar thought he’d scored a late extra-time winner for the hosts but it was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Welbeck’s goal secured a fifth-straight win for Brighton in all competitions.
Newcastle are hoping to end a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy and can still achieve that this season when they play Liverpool in the League Cup final later this month.
In the draw for the quarter finals made later, Fulham will host London rivals Crystal Palace, second-tier Preston, the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, will be at home to Premier League Aston Villa.
There’s a tasty all-Premier League clash as Manchester City head to Bournemouth, while Brighton’s reward for the Newcastle win is a home tie against either Nottingham Forest or Ipswich, who play on Monday night.
FA CUP QUARTER-FINAL DRAW
Fulham v Crystal Palace
Preston North End v Aston Villa
Bournemouth v Manchester City
Brighton and Hove Albion v Nottingham Forest or Ipswich Town

The Sangertown Square Mall shooter has been arrested, and law enforcement says it was likely a targeted attack.
On March 1, at about 12:45 p.m., the New Hartford Police Department responded to Sangertown Square Mall for a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, New Hartford Police Officers entered the mall to address a potential active shooter incident and while doing so, located one male victim who suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Police stand outside Sangertown Square Mall after a shooting incident on Saturday.
Sangertown Square Mall Security Personnel had begun providing medical aid to the shooting victim, as New Hartford police officers began to assist.
Additional officers continued to search for suspects, other victims and canvas for evidence.
The male victim was transported to Wynn hospital by Edwards Ambulance for treatment. An incident command post was established and those inside the mall were instructed to shelter in place.
The Metro SWAT Team, comprised of members of the Utica Police Department, New Hartford Police Department and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office conducted a systematic sweep and evacuation of the mall. New Hartford police confirm that early on in the investigation it was determined by New Hartford Police Command Staff that there was a single targeted victim and single suspect responsible.
Malachi Wynder, 20, of Rome, was arrested after being located and as a result of warrants executed by The METRO SWAT Team, which is comprised of members of The Utica Police, New Hartford Police, and The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from the New Hartford Police Department.
Wynder was charged with attempted *******, first-degree reckless endangerment, and second-class criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
He was transported to The New Hartford Police Department, processed on the above charges then brought to The Oneida County Jail to be held for arraignment in Oneida County Centralized Arraignment Part Court. Additional charges may be filed as part of this case.
Pyramid Management Group, the owner of Sangertown Square, released a statement from its CEO, Stephen Congel, on Sunday.
“Pyramid Management Group is pleased to know that the New Hartford Police Department has made an arrest in [Saturday’s] unfortunate incident at Sangertown Square,” Congel said in his statement. “I’d like to personally thank all law enforcement involved — New Hartford Police, METRO SWAT, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Utica Police, and New York State Police — for their tireless efforts in quickly arresting the subject.”

If the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT comes with a sub-$400 price tag, it might be the best-value graphics card PC gamers have ever seen
If the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT comes with a sub-$400 price tag, it might be the best-value graphics card PC gamers have ever seen
As you may have already seen, AMD officially showcased its upcoming Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT earlier this week, including pricing details that were an extremely welcome sight. Now, I’m starting to wonder about the Radeon RX 9060 – a GPU that, if priced correctly, could be an extremely attractive value proposition for PC gamers.
Naturally, I’m not going to get too excited until we see some real-world performance figures for the new AMD cards. Team Red made some bold claims in its RX 9070 XT performance showcase, placing the GPU just slightly above the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti in terms of native 4K gaming performance despite it being $150 cheaper (and let’s be honest, you can’t get a 5070 Ti at retail price right now anyway).
I suspect that’s a load of baloney, since AMD used an overclocked RX 9070 XT for their testing and their comparison 5070 Ti was most likely fished out of a crypto miner’s dumpster and then spat on for good measure (AMD: this is a joke, please don’t sue me). AMD also only showcased raw native 4K framerates, while Nvidia is keen to push the effectiveness of its new DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation features, which – for all the debate surrounding them – do significantly improve your in-game fps.
Still, it’s very impressive stuff – but at $549 (around £520 / AU$880), even the non-XT version of the RX 9070 can’t exactly be called a budget GPU. It’s more of a midrange card, and while it looks like a great midrange card, I’d still argue that the best choice right now for PC builders on a budget is the Intel Arc B580, which scored a rare five stars in our review for its solid 1440p gaming performance and extremely reasonable $249.99 / £249.99 / AU$449 price tag.
Figuring it out
So, as things stand right now, it looks like AMD might be taking the midrange GPU space by storm, while Intel holds onto the budget market and Nvidia remains the undisputed king of the high-end. But with more RX 9000-series cards yet to come, it’s entirely possible that AMD could descend on Intel with some fiery (but affordable) wrath – after all, AMD made it clear last year that it would no longer be targeting the premium space, with a greater focus on midrange and budget GPUs.
So, the RX 9060. We know very little about it right now, but we can make some reasonable extrapolations about it based on previous leaks and our existing knowledge of the RX 9070 cards.
AMD’s RX 9000 series is a bold step forward for the perpetual underdog of the GPU world. (Image credit: AMD)
For starters, some leaks from back in December proved to be mostly accurate regarding the 9070 and 9070 XT, correctly predicting the name change from RX 8000 and the upgrade to RDNA 4 as well as AMD’s new FSR 4 upscaling tech. Those leaks claimed that pricing for the two new GPUs would be in the $449 to $649 range, which has also proven accurate, although it was admittedly a fairly wide net being cast there. The same leaker claimed that upcoming Navi 44 GPUs (the 9070 cards are Navi 48) would sit in the $179 to $349 price range, presumably with the RX 9060 XT – or perhaps just a plain old RX 9060 – at the top.
This is where I start to doubt the leaks a little; a price of $349 would be a $200 gap between that card and the RX 9060, which feels like a fairly wide spacing when it comes to pricing. $399 feels a bit more reasonable to me, especially if we do get an RX 9060 XT – and as PC Gamer reports, we can apparently expect “multiple RX 9060 products” to land in the second quarter of 2025.
Performance without the price
But if the leaks are accurate and AMD does produce an RX 9060 XT for $349 or less in a few months’ time, I’ll absolutely lose my ****** (pardon my French). The Radeon RX 7600 XT was a decent enough GPU, but it failed to measure up to Nvidia’s competing RTX 4060 when it came to bang for your buck.
AMD looks to be making major strides in that department, though. Even if the RX 9070 XT is 10% behind the RTX 5070 Ti in terms of raw performance – and I suspect the average might be a lot closer than that – it’s a full 20% cheaper, and there’s still no sign of a desktop RTX 5060 from Nvidia. While I do imagine that card will eventually surface, AMD has the gloves off in the affordable GPU arena right now – and there’s frankly not a hope in hell we’ll see a desktop RTX 5050, so anything below that performance level that AMD decides to offer could absolutely dominate that price point. Yes, I know Intel’s new budget GPUs are good. No, I don’t think they’ll outclass new Radeon cards.
Look at this thing. It costs less than two hundred bucks. Perfection. (Image credit: XFX)
The fact is that AMD has had skin in the budget game for a long time. My partner, who admittedly mostly plays Stardew Valley, is still rocking a Radeon RX 570 that runs perfectly well for 1080p gaming – a graphics card that retailed at just $179 in the US when it was released back in 2017. I’ve offered to replace it with something a bit more current, but he says “Why? It still works fine.”
The affordable to midrange space is where Team Red excels, and after some small missteps in the previous desktop generation, I reckon it’s ready to take back its crown. With Nvidia focused on AI and ridiculously high performance GPUs, there’s no time like the present.

Clean Monday in Greece: Everything You Need to Know
Clean Monday in Greece: Everything You Need to Know
A traditional Clean Monday spread. Credit: Kyriakos Persidis / Greek Reporter
“Kathara Deftera,” Greek for “Clean Monday,” is considered one of the most important annual feasts in Greece, commencing the ******* of Great Lent known as Sarakosti in the Greek Orthodox Church, which, despite its name meaning forty, usually lasts closer to 50 days.
The feast begins on the first day of the 7th week before the Greek Orthodox Easter Sunday.
Liturgically, however, Clean Monday—and thus Lent itself—begins on the preceding Sunday night at a special service in which all those present bow down before one another and ask for forgiveness.
In this way, the faithful begin the Great Lent with a clean conscience, forgiveness and renewed Christian love. The day of Clean Monday is sometimes called “Ash Monday” by analogy to Ash Wednesday, the day on which Lent begins in Western Christianity.
Clean Monday also puts an end to the riotous Carnival celebrations that preceded it, inviting all Orthodox Christians to leave behind the sinful attitudes associated with Carnival festivities and non-fasting foods, which were largely consumed during the three weeks of Carnival.
As a result, the feast, which is a public holiday in Greece and Cyprus, is celebrated with outdoor excursions, the consumption of shellfish, and other fasting foods, as well as the widespread custom of making and flying kites.

Eating meat, eggs, and dairy products is traditionally forbidden for Orthodox Christians throughout Lent, and fish is eaten only on major feast days.
The consumption of shellfish and mollusks, however, is permitted in the Greek Orthodox Churches, thus creating the tradition of eating elaborate dishes based on seafood, such as cuttlefish, octopus, or shellfish, including shrimp and mussels.
A traditional dip made from the salted and cured roe of carp or cod, mixed with olive oil, lemon juice, and bread crumbs, called “taramosalata,” is also part of the fare consumed on Clean Monday.
Taramosalata is ideal for spreading on “lagana,” a special kind of unleavened flatbread which is baked only on that day. The history behind this bread dates back to the Old Testament and refers to the help offered by God to the Israeli people while guiding them from Egypt to the promised land.
Since then, Israelis have baked unleavened bread, or lagana, throughout the Passover *******, with the tradition passed on to early Christian believers.
In Greece, records of a thin bread called “laganos,” which is mentioned in the works of the great comic playwright Aristophanes, date back to ancient times, indicating that the tradition is also linked to the country’s ancient history.
Accompanying these delights are also ******-eyed beans or just common baked beans, vine leaf wrapped rice ****** called “dolma,” and of course some Greek wine or tsipouro.
As for dessert, a variation of the familiar Arabic sweet called “halva” is served, made of tahini, a sesame paste, and sugar, often combined with nuts or chocolate and baked in a square or round shape.

Traditions of Clean Monday
Clean Monday, however, is not only associated with eating fasting foods but also features many other delightful traditions celebrated all over Greece. Traditionally, as Clean Monday is considered the unofficial beginning of the spring season, kite flying is also part of family activities.
Young people and adults organize excursions to open areas so as to fill the skies with their kites. Many traditional workshops have been devoted to constructing such kites for over seventy years now.
Although traditional wooden kites have been replaced by plastic ones, the kite-making handcraft still has its own secrets. A light wooden frame on a paper body, cords on the balances, and a single cord on the tail make for the perfect kite, ready to carry children and grown-ups off their feet in the winds of March.
Apart from kite flying, many areas in Greece maintain their own regional customs on Clean Monday. In Thebes, an old custom dating from 1830, called the “Vlach Wedding”—in reference to the matchmaking of the time—is revived each year, with all participants joining in the festivities with satirical songs and lots of dancing.
Meanwhile, in the village of Mesta on the Greek island of Chios, according to another Clean Monday custom, which has its roots in the ******* of Ottoman Greece, the village is “invaded” by an Ottoman military officer along with his troops who after gathering all residents to the central square, makes them pay a fine for the charges brought against them. The collected money is then given as tribute to the cultural association of the village.
The feast of Clean Monday and all its associated traditions and celebrations are in the hearts of the Greek people, as they provide an opportunity for leisure, an escape from daily routine, and a connection with nature and the country’s cultural heritage.

Danny Welbeck: Brighton’s FA Cup hero enjoying career renaissance
Danny Welbeck: Brighton’s FA Cup hero enjoying career renaissance
“Thanks to my mum and dad for giving me good genes,” said Brighton’s FA Cup hero.
Five years after it looked as though Danny Welbeck’s career was petering out, the 34-year-old sent Albion into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
When Welbeck played 18 times and scored twice in Watford’s Premier League relegation campaign in 2019-20, it didn’t seem like there were great days ahead of him.
The former (more on this later) England frontman left the Hornets on a free transfer and joined Brighton after the transfer window had closed in October 2020.
An un-Brighton-like signing, a 29-year-old injury-prone forward – surely just a stop-gap?
And yet, the two-time FA Cup winner with Arsenal has had a storming time in Sussex – capped off by his latest goal.
In extra time of their FA Cup fifth-round tie with Newcastle, he ran on to Solly March’s pass before clipping a clever finish over Martin Dubravka from a tight angle to make it 2-1.
That is his eighth goal of the season – only behind two of his Manchester United seasons and one at Arsenal. He is four off his record of 12 at United in 2011–12.
“Danny was great to play alongside. If I’m being honest I would like to see him here at Manchester United,” said former Red Devils and England team-mate Wayne Rooney on BBC One.

Take-Two CEO Said Kevin Hart’s Borderlands Movie Actually Helped Borderlands 4 Despite Bombing
Take-Two CEO Said Kevin Hart’s Borderlands Movie Actually Helped Borderlands 4 Despite Bombing
Sometimes, failure can lead to unexpected gains. We’ve seen it time and again in the entertainment industry, where a project might not meet expectations, yet ends up achieving something remarkably unexpected. This was certainly the case with the live-action Borderlands movie.
The adaptation was bad but it had positive effects on the franchise. | Image Credit: Gearbox Software
Despite boasting a star-studded cast, the adaptation failed to capture the essence of the beloved video game franchise. However, in a surprising twist, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that the film did something entirely unexpected, it acted as a boost for the next installment in the series.
Borderlands‘ adaptation failed but gave an unexpected boost
Borderlands is no small franchise. With its unique mix of humor, chaotic yet colorful action, and many memorable characters, the game has become a fan favorite since its debut in 2009.
So when news broke that a live-action adaptation was on the way, fans were eager to see their favorite characters come to life on the big screen. The adaptation had promise, with a star-studded cast of Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett.
Yet, upon release, the film fell flat. Despite its strong cast and potential, it failed to capture what made the game so special. For gamers, the movie didn’t reflect the spirit of the game’s world. Naturally, many assumed the failure would hurt the Borderlands franchise as a whole.
But Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, provided a refreshing perspective in an interview with GamesIndustry, rather than harming the brand, the movie had an unexpected positive impact.
With the launch of the movie, we actually sold more [back] catalogue than we expected, so it did provide a marketing umbrella. You are right that the movie was disappointing.
He went on to explain that the Borderlands movie (despite its poor adaptation) helped make the announcement of Borderlands 4 more popular, as players were showing increased interest in the game.
The rising trend of video game adaptations
The trend of a movie adaptation is going crazy. | Image Credit: Gearbox Software
In recent years, adapting video games into movies and TV shows has become kind of a growing trend in Hollywood. With the success of projects like Sonic the Hedgehog, The Last of Us, and Fallout, many studios are trying to replicate this success with their own IPs.
However, the track record has been far from perfect. While a few have found success, the majority have fallen flat. Even Zelnick acknowledged that while the quality of game-based films is improving, the few successes have made it more challenging for adaptations to get it right.
He further emphasized that this is the reason why Take-Two remains very selective about bringing its intellectual properties to other media. Hopefully, others should also do the same.
As the trend of video game adaptations continues to rise, let’s hope future projects focus on creating adaptations that truly capture the magic of the games, rather than simply relying on star power to make up for a lack of substance (sounds like Minecraft movie).
In the end, the Borderlands situation reminds us that even in failure, there can be success. However, that doesn’t mean you should keep making the same mistakes. Hopefully, future adaptations can learn from past mistakes and focus on what truly makes these games special.

Aussies Iredale and Boyle make Hibs kings of Edinburgh
Aussies Iredale and Boyle make Hibs kings of Edinburgh
Socceroo Martin Boyle and one-time youth international Jack Iredale have delivered terrific goals as a four-strong *********** contingent inspired Hibernian to a famous 2-1 win over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership’s Edinburgh derby.
Boyle won an unlikely race to latch onto Iredale’s long-ball and score brilliantly after just six minutes to give Hibs the early lead at their ecstatic Easter Road stadium on Sunday in of the Scottish game’s iconic fixtures.
But after Hearts had levelled in the first half through Jorge Grant, the home fans’ reaction was as nothing compared to the remarkable reception that greeted centre-back Ireland’s unlikely thunderous left-foot volley winner, smashed past Scotland veteran international keeper Craig Gordon, in the 74th minute.
It was a sweet moment for the Scottish-born, ***********-raised defender Iredale, who once played in Perth Glory’s youth ranks and was an Aussie under-17 international, as he transported Hibs to back-to-back derby wins for the first time since 2017.
“It is such a special feeling to be able to share a moment like that with the fans,” Iredale told the club’s in-house Hibs TV, after he had clambered up the hoardings in front of the supporters following his thumping strike from outside the box.
“I just thought ‘why not?’ as it sat up really nicely. It was probably the highest I got up the pitch all day, I thought if there was a day to score a goal like that then why not today?”
The win sparked huge celebrations at full-time with the club’s anthem, the Proclaimers’ standard Sunshine On Leith, belting out around Easter Road.
“That has got to be the best song in world football – it is so special to hear it,” Iredale said.
Hibs’ coach David Gray enthused equally: “I was right behind it, it’s a fantastic hit and a goal well worthy of winning a derby, something that will live with him for the rest of his life.
“It needed to be a really good strike, because Craig Gordon’s a top goalkeeper. A special moment for a special game.”
Gray, who watched his side extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches in the match that means most to their supporters, was also impressed with the resurgent Boyle, and Hibs’ two other Australians, under-23 international midfielder Nectarios Triantis and Socceroos’ defender, substitute Lewis Miller.
Boyle’s goal was a special effort too as he looked to have little chance of outpacing and outmuscling defender Gerald Taylor for his goal. He did both, before beating Gordon from a narrow angle.
Triantis has become a Hibs’ stand-out too. “He’s been brilliant, maturing all the time too,” said Gray.
“He joined the club as a centre back, had a difficult start in that position, played towards latterly at the end of the season in midfield and I really like him in there. He’s still only 21, powerful, aggressive and has all the qualities to be a strong number six.”

This Arizona woman says Hertz accused her of a late rental car return — and took her to collections for $707
This Arizona woman says Hertz accused her of a late rental car return — and took her to collections for $707
This Arizona woman says Hertz accused her of failing to return rental car on time — and took her to collections for $707. Here’s what happened and 3 ways to avoid a similar situation
When Vonecia Sullivan-Hill went on a weekend trip to Atlanta, she rented a car through Hertz and had a great time on her trip. She left early in the morning to catch a plane, returned the rental to the designated spot and thought all was well.
Unfortunately, that was not the case. Shortly after returning home, she received an upsetting phone call.
“Wednesday, I get a call from Hertz saying you still have our car. We’re charging you money still,” she told On Your Side.
Sullivan-Hill was concerned because she was in Phoenix and had dropped off the car days ago, but her troubles only continued.
When Sullivan-Hill explained to the Hertz representative that she’d already brought the car back, she was told not to worry and that the company would sort out the error. But the next day, she got another troubling call.
“After a few days, I’m concerned,” she said. “You’re calling me saying I have a car I don’t have.”
This process went on for several days until Sullivan-Hill filed a report with the Atlanta police department. That day, after alerting the police, she finally received an email from Hertz thanking her for returning the car. But this still didn’t resolve the issue.
That’s because the email said that the car had been returned the day the email was sent — a full five days after it had actually been dropped off at the Atlanta location.
Hertz then tried to charge Sullivan-Hill $707 for the extra five days when the car was missing, but she disputed the charges. Fortunately, the credit card company was on her side.
While she got the charges reversed, she later got a call that Hertz had sent her to collections for the unpaid sum.
That’s when she called On Your Side. Once journalists began investigating, Hertz changed its tune, refunding her the money and sending her an additional $100 voucher.
Still, it wasn’t without a lot of hassle — and she wasn’t the first one this happened to, as Hertz had to pay $168 million in 2022 to settle a lawsuit alleging the company wrongly accused customers of stealing rental cars.
Story Continues
With issues like this happening more often than you might think, everyone who rents a vehicle must take steps to protect themselves to avoid a similar problem.
Read more: Home prices in America could fly through the roof in 2025 — here’s the big reason why and how to take full advantage (with as little as $10)
Fortunately, there are a few different ways you can protect yourself to avoid finding yourself in this situation. You can:
Carefully document every detail of the rental transaction, including the time you pick up the rental vehicle, the car’s condition and the time of return.
Take photos and videos of the car before you drive it off the lot and when you return it — along with the location of the return. Make sure they’re time-stamped.
Save all of your rental car documents and read them carefully.
Take notes of everyone that you talk to, especially if you become involved in a dispute.
Try to return the vehicle to an in-person agent when possible so you can get written confirmation of the return.
Research rental car companies to make sure they don’t have a bad reputation for customer service.
By following these steps, you’ll hopefully have no mess to untangle when you arrive home.

FA Cup quarter-finals draw: Bournemouth v Man City, Preston v Aston Villa
FA Cup quarter-finals draw: Bournemouth v Man City, Preston v Aston Villa
In-form Bournemouth have been drawn at home to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Preston, the only Championship side left in the FA Cup, are at home to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
Fulham host Crystal Palace in a London derby.
And Brighton will be at home to either Nottingham Forest or Ipswich, who play their fifth-round tie on Monday.
Aside from 2023 victors Manchester City, Ipswich are the most recent FA Cup winners (1978) left in it.
Fulham, Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton have never won the cup.
“It’s very open now. What a chance for a team to go and win it,” said ex-Manchester City and Villa defender Micah Richards on BBC One.
“All the [other] big teams are out. Manchester City are obviously the strongest team left in there. This is what we wanted, teams to get a chance.”
The quarter-final ties will take place on the weekend of Saturday, 29 March.

Man, Tired of Dealing with Potholes in His Town, Gets Officials’ Attention with Hilarious Eye-Catching Prank
Man, Tired of Dealing with Potholes in His Town, Gets Officials’ Attention with Hilarious Eye-Catching Prank
A British man fed up with the condition of a road near his village finally put a foot down — or in this case, legs up.
On Sunday, Feb. 23, James Coxall put a pair of fake legs — outfitted with jeans and a pair of colorful sneakers — in a large puddle created by a pothole on Haverhill Road in the Cambridgeshire village of Castle Camps in England, according to the BBC.
The 41-year-old carpenter told the outlet that he set up the prank after the gaping crater — one of several potholes on the road — remained unrepaired for eight months.
Coxall said that while the road is not busy, drivers would “have to either stop or hit the pothole” if they encountered any oncoming traffic.

Deciding to “have a bit of fun” with the frustrating road situation, Coxall, his wife and kids gathered up some old clothes and rags and turned them into a pair of legs clothed in jeans and shoes.
“The shoes were going to charity anyway, so we thought we’d give them an outing first,” Coxall told the BBC. “We stuffed the jeans with old rags and I used some wood to keep the legs sturdy and upright.”
He placed the legs in the puddle, with the feet sticking up in the air, using a brick to weigh down his creation. Then, he posted a photo of his prank on the Facebook group, Odd Things Around Cambridge, and another local Haverhill group, quickly earning quite a few likes.

“It’s just a bit of fun, and I’ve had lots of messages about it,” Coxall told the BBC. “People seem to like it around here, but then, I am known as a bit of a joker.”
Coxall’s eye-catching stunt eventually paid off, as the Cambridgeshire County Council told the outlet one of its highways officers would come out to inspect the road and “repairs will be made as required.”
The county also advised residents to utilize its online pothole reporting tool.
