  1. Coalition of willing to guarantee Ukraine peace Coalition of willing to guarantee Ukraine peace EPA *** Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced a four-point plan to work with Ukraine to end the war and to defend it from Russia. The ***, France and other countries in a “coalition of the willing” would step up their efforts and seek to involve the US in their support for Ukraine, he said. “We are at a crossroads in history today,” Starmer said after a summit of 18 leaders – mostly from Europe and including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It comes two days after a fiery exchange between the Ukrainian leader and US President Donald Trump in the White House. Speaking at a news conference after the summit, Starmer said four points had been agreed: to keep military aid flowing into Ukraine, and to keep increasing the economic pressure on Russiathat any lasting peace must ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and security and Ukraine must be present at any peace talksin the event of a peace deal, to boost Ukraine’s defensive capabilities to deter any future invasionto develop a “coalition of the willing” to defend a deal in Ukraine and to guarantee peace afterwards Sir Keir also announced an additional £1.6bn ($2bn) of *** export finance to buy more than 5,000 air defence missiles. This comes on top of a £2.2bn loan to provide more military aid to Ukraine backed by profits from frozen Russian assets. “We have to learn from the mistakes of the past, we cannot accept a weak deal… which Russia can breach with ease, instead any deal must be backed by strength,” he said. The prime minister did not state which countries had agreed to join this coalition of the willing, but said that those who had committed would intensify planning now, with real urgency. The ***, he said, would back its commitment with “boots on the ground, and planes in the air”. “Europe must do the heavy lifting,” he said, before adding that the agreement would need US backing and had to include Russia – but said that Moscow could not be allowed to dictate terms. “Let me clear, we agree with Trump on the urgent need for a durable peace. Now we need to deliver together”. When asked if the US under President Trump was an unreliable ally, he said: “Nobody wanted to see what happened last Friday, but I do not accept that the US is an unreliable ally.” Other countries which joined the summit included France, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Norway, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Finland, Italy, Spain and Canada. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that there was now an urgent need to “re-arm Europe”. Watch: Starmer says “coalition of the willing” needed in peace deal These sentiments were echoed by Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, who said the meeting had seen European countries “stepping up” to make sure Ukraine has what it needs to “stay in the fight as long as it has to continue”. Reuters There was a warm reception for Zelensky as he met King Charles Sunday’s summit concludes a hectic week of diplomacy, which included visits to Washington by French President Emmanuel Macron, Sir Keir and Zelensky. Zelensky’s meeting, however, culminated in a heated exchanged with Trump and US Vice-President JD Vance, in which the US president accused his Ukrainian counterpart of “gambling with World War Three”. Trump says he wants to end the war in Ukraine and has expressed trust in the Russian President Vladimir Putin, to the consternation of many of his Western allies. The US has also had a set of peace talks with Russia – excluding Ukraine. At one point, the US leader accused Ukraine of starting the war – even though it was Putin who launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbour on 24 February 2022. 5. ‘It’s not the human density’ ‘It’s not the human density’ A new data analysis found that India has successfully doubled its tiger population in just a decade. And experts say the endangered big cats have ongoing conservation efforts to thank for the resurgence. According to a study recently published in Science, the number of tigers in India grew from an estimated 1,706 tigers in 2010 to around 3,682 in 2022. There are currently an estimated 5,557 tigers in the wild, making India home to roughly 75% of the global tiger population, according to the Associated Press. According to the World Wildlife Fund, tiger populations globally were devastated by decades of poaching and human conflict. According to the WWF, more than 3,500 tigers were seized from traffickers in over 50 countries between 2000 and 2020 — almost equaling the entire population of wild tigers in India. Tigers have also been historically threatened by habitat loss — both with human and environmental causes — and lack of prey, conditions only exacerbated by planetary warming. WWF reports that tigers are often found in India’s mangroves, regions especially susceptible to storm surges and wind damage. Rising sea levels caused by climate shifts threaten to wipe out these habitats, which could displace tigers and their prey if not mitigated. Tigers in India are spread across more than 53,000 square miles, which AP noted is roughly the size of New York state. A larger portion of that area — a full 45% — is shared with roughly 60 million people, making improving tiger-human relationships key to conservation. While human conflict has historically decimated tiger populations in the region, the study found that some local communities near current tiger habitats have actually benefited from the increasing tiger population due to tourism traffic and revenues. Watch now: Giant snails invading New York City? “The common belief is that human densities preclude an increase in tiger populations,” Yadvendradev Jhala, a senior scientist at the Indian National Academy of Sciences and the study’s lead author, told AP. “What the research shows is that it’s not the human density, but the attitude of people, which matters more.” Yet, wildlife experts and ecologists are cautious to celebrate the findings prematurely. According to AP, experts want the study’s source materials made available to the wider scientific community for further study and verification. Some experts also point out that some of the estimates in the study are “significantly higher” than previous tiger population estimates using the same datasets. But one thing is certain: More work needs to be done to support — and further increase — the number of tigers in India. According to the study, only 25% of the area occupied by tigers is considered prey-rich and protected. The study’s authors especially call for more wildlife protection laws in the region, calling this legislation the “backbone” of tiger conservation. How often do you worry about toxic chemicals getting into your home? Always Often Sometimes Never Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. “Habitat is not a constraint,” Jhala told AP, explaining there is plenty of space for tigers to roam in India when left be by humans. “It’s the quality of the habitat which is a constraint.” Join our free newsletter for good news and useful tips, and don’t miss this cool list of easy ways to help yourself while helping the planet. 6. Starmer Vows to Assemble ‘Coalition of the Willing’ to Help Ukraine Starmer Vows to Assemble ‘Coalition of the Willing’ to Help Ukraine new video loaded: Starmer Vows to Assemble ‘Coalition of the Willing’ to Help Ukraine transcript Back transcript Starmer Vows to Assemble ‘Coalition of the Willing’ to Help UkrainePrime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain said he would work with other European leaders to develop a plan for ending the war in Ukraine. They hope the effort will win the backing of President Trump. “Through my discussions over recent days, we’ve agreed that the U.K., France and others will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting. Then we’ll discuss that plan with the United States and take it forward together. We will go further to develop a ‘coalition of the willing’ to defend a deal in Ukraine and to guarantee the peace. The U.K. is prepared to back this with boots on the ground and planes in the air, together with others. Europe must do the heavy lifting. But to support peace in our continent and to succeed, this effort must have strong U.S. backing.” Reporter: “Do you think you really do need the U.S., and if you do, do you think the ‘coalition of the willing’ will be enough to bring President Trump back around? Thank you.” “Well, firstly, in relation to last Friday, nobody wanted to see what happened last Friday. But I do not accept that the U.S. is an unreliable ally. The U.S. has been a reliable ally to the U.K. for many, many decades, and continues to be. There are no two countries as closely aligned as our two countries. I spoke to President Trump last night. I’m not going to go through the details of that conversation, but I would not be taking this step down this road if I didn’t think that it was something that would yield a positive outcome in terms of ensuring that we move together — Ukraine, Europe, the U.K., and the U.S., together — towards a lasting peace. We are at a crossroads in history today. That is not a moment for more talk. It’s time to act. Time to step up and lead. 9. Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf’s son Jaden Agassi to debut for Germany in World Baseball Classic Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf’s son Jaden Agassi to debut for Germany in World Baseball Classic It’s not the least bit surprising that Jaden Agassi — son of tennis legends Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf — had a racket in his hand from the time he could walk. The little boy loved to run. He loved to hit the ball. The problem was accuracy wasn’t his thing. “It was hard for me to keep the ball in the lines,” Agassi said, laughing. “I just wanted to hit it as far as I could.” So his parents signed him up for baseball. About 20 years later, he’s trying to make his own mark in the sports world. The 23-year-old Agassi is a pitcher for Team Germany in this week’s World Baseball Classic qualifiers in Tucson, Arizona. The right-hander grew up in Las Vegas with his famous American dad and ******* mother before playing college baseball at USC. He holds dual citizenship and speaks a little *******. The popularity of baseball has grown in Germany over the past few decades, but manager Jendrick Speer was still searching for a few additions to the roster for the WBC qualifiers when he stumbled across Agassi on social media and realised his connections to the country. “I found him because he’s a good baseball player,” Speer said. “With all the technology out there, we found him while researching and discovered that he had played in college and had citizenship. It worked out great and he’s a great guy.” Growing up in the Las Vegas area, Agassi was right in the middle of a baseball hotbed. The metro has produced recent MLB standouts like Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant, Bryson Stott, Paul Sewald, Joey Gallo and Tyler Anderson. Agassi said his parents never pushed him into tennis, baseball or any other sport because they didn’t want to repeat their childhood and teenage years, which were totally consumed by tennis. Camera IconWith no tennis racquet in sight, Jaden Agassi’s baseball career could go next level in Arizona. Credit: AAP The lanky 6-foot-3 Agassi has had his share of setbacks during his baseball career. He needed Tommy John elbow surgery after his first game in 2019, which caused him to miss his junior season in high school. Then in 2020, his team played just a handful of games before COVID-19 shut down sports for the year. “It almost worked as a blessing in disguise,” Agassi said. “I got almost two years to rehab my Tommy John, came back strong and then started my college career at USC.” His three seasons with the Trojans were a little up-and-down. Now he’s hoping to latch on to an MLB organisation once the WBC qualifiers are over. His stint with Team Germany is another chance for him to showcase his mid-90s fastball. Agassi doesn’t mind people asking about his parents or why he doesn’t play tennis. His mum won 22 grand slam titles while his dad won eight, and one of the younger Agassi’s first childhood memories is hugging his dad on the court after he got a big win late in his career. He said they’re both supportive of his baseball career and will be in the crowd this week as he pitches for mum’s home country with Team Deutschland across his chest. “As a kid, you’re kind of oblivious to the world,” Agassi said. “It felt completely normal to me. I got a lot of knowledge and lessons learned from them. Picked up a lot of things and it’s been a blessing.” Source link #Andre #Agassi #Steffi #Grafs #son #Jaden #Agassi #debut #Germany #World #Baseball #Classic Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  11. FAA reportedly ordered staff to find millions of dollars to fund Starlink deal FAA reportedly ordered staff to find millions of dollars to fund Starlink deal According to Rolling Stone, employees with the Federal Aviation Administration were told on Friday to “begin finding tens of millions of dollars for a Starlink deal,” after The Washington Post reported that the FAA may cancel its $2.4 billion contract with Verizon to overhaul the US’s airspace management systems and go with Elon Musk’s company instead. Whether the FAA has actually dropped its Verizon deal in favor of Starlink has yet to be confirmed publicly. Anonymous sources told Rolling Stone that the orders from FAA officials on Friday were “delivered verbally” to staff, in an “unusual” move. It comes a few days after Musk claimed on X that the situation around air traffic control communications is “extremely dire,” saying the existing system (which he wrongly attributed to Verizon before later adding a correction) is “breaking down very rapidly.” He went on to say that “Starlink terminals are being sent at NO COST to the taxpayer on an emergency basis to restore air traffic control connectivity.” Bloomberg, citing sources close to the matter, previously reported that 4,000 Starlink terminals were being sent to help upgrade the FAA’s networks, which the FAA confirmed. In a statement posted on X in response last week, the FAA claimed it’s “been considering the use of Starlink since the prior administration.” As recently as Wednesday, though, the FAA said in statements to The Washington Post and other publications that it had not made a decision about its Verizon deal. The agency is one of many that has been hit by layoffs led by Musk’s DOGE over the last few weeks, with hundreds of FAA employees fired in February. 13. Man Utd manager Amorim called ‘naive’ by Rooney over Premier League title ambition Man Utd manager Amorim called ‘naive’ by Rooney over Premier League title ambition Rooney’s comments about United carry huge weight given his achievements at the club. He remains United’s record goalscorer and won five league titles and the Champions League during a stellar ******* in which he was a central figure in Ferguson’s last great side. However, he has a chequered record as a manager, initially doing well in a difficult situation at Derby, moving to Major League Soccer with DC United, but then lasting just 15 and 25 games in ill-fated spells at Birmingham and Plymouth. Amorim did not mention this when he responded to Rooney’s comments. But, from personal experience, he knows talking about a team and managing one is two entirely different things. “That (winning the Premier League) is the goal,” said Amorim. “To be naive is to think we are going to do it this season or be the best contender next season. “I know in this moment, everybody knows everything. I was a pundit when I finished my [playing] career. I know it’s really easy. “Maybe it is not with me but our goal, as a club, is to win the Premier League like we did in the past with all the great glories and legends of this club. “We are in a difficult moment. And I’m not naive, that’s why I’m here, at 40 years old, coaching Manchester United.” Source link #Man #Utd #manager #Amorim #called #naive #Rooney #Premier #League #title #ambition Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  14. Raiders’ big Vegas win comes at cost for Tapine, Savage Raiders’ big Vegas win comes at cost for Tapine, Savage Canberra’s statement win in Las Vegas has come at a big cost with captain Joe Tapine and star winger Xavier Savage facing suspensions from the NRL match review committee. Raiders captain Tapine went to the sin bin for shoulder-charging Warriors co-captain Mitch Barnett in the second half of the 30-8 victory that opened the NRL season on Sunday (AEDT). “We turned the ball over and that’s my job, I’m trying to pump the boys up and I’m trying to turn the momentum,” Tapine said of the hit. He will miss Canberra’s next two games against Brisbane and Manly with an early guilty plea for his grade-two charge, but risks sitting out a third game against North Queensland by taking his case to the judiciary. Coach Ricky Stuart said the NRL had set the standard for shoulder-charge calls this season by sin-binning Tapine. “I’m not saying it’s the wrong call, but it’s a massive call. But as long as it stays in every game now,” Stuart said. Savage, tipped as the Raiders’ successor to livewire back Jordan Rapana, is set to miss the Broncos clash for attacking Chanel Harris-Tavita’s legs as he kicked in the first half. The NRL takes a dim view of similar shots, with Freddy Lussick notably inflicting a serious leg injury on Lachlan Ilias in the NSW Cup last year. Savage will miss a second game if he challenges his grade-two dangerous contact charge. It’s a bitter blow for a Canberra side that missed finals last year but produced their most complete performance in memory during the first game of the season. Albert Hopoate appears the likeliest man to come into the backline for the Raiders after he missed the trip to Vegas to attend the birth of his child. Trey Mooney, Myles Martin and Pasami Saulo are among middle-forward options that could replace Tapine in the 17. Daniel Cole | Reuters The 97th Academy Awards are live from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. ET. The ceremony, hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, airs on ABC and is available through its website and app. This year’s awards put a handful of new records on the line: “The Brutalist” star Adrien Brody could be the first to go 2-for-2 in the best actor category, while Timothée Chalamet could unseat Brody as the youngest winner in the category if he takes the statue for “A Complete Unknown.” Two musicals are up for best picture — “Wicked” and “Emilia Pérez” — alongside “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “I’m Still Here,” “Nickel Boys” and “The Substance.” Heading into Sunday’s ceremony, viewers were keen to see if “Emilia Pérez” could overcome recent controversy to secure any wins. The film’s star and an Oscar nominee, Karla Sofía Gascón’s, faced criticism for past social media posts than many deemed racist and Islamophoic. “Emilia Pérez” seemed poised early on in the awards season for a best picture win, but “The Brutalist” and “Anora” have more recently emerged as frontrunners. Then there’s “Wicked,” a breakout box office smash last year. The feature stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who are set to perform during the evening, even though the musical movie isn’t eligible for a best song nomination this year. 18. Hostage says scars show ‘strength’ ahead of surgery Hostage says scars show ‘strength’ ahead of surgery Emily Damari Family Emily Damari lost two fingers after being shot during the 7 October 2023 attacks A British-Israeli hostage released by ****** after 15 months in captivity has said her scars represented “freedom, hope and strength” as she underwent a series of surgeries for her injuries. Emily Damari, 28, was shot in the hand as she was dragged from her home in southern Israel during ******’s 7 October 2023 attack, causing her to lose two fingers. She said an operation in Gaza had left her in “intense pain” for a year and a half, and that a scar from an “open, festering wound” did not heal for months due to the conditions in which she was held. Ahead of her treatment, Ms Damari said she had “fully embraced” the pain and injuries because of what they symbolise to her. Ms Damari was held by ****** in Gaza for 471 days prior to her release. She was one of the first hostages to be freed as part of a ceasefire deal struck between the ************ armed group and Israel after 15 months of fighting. She was taken from her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, near the Gaza border, on the morning of ******’s unprecedented attack. Ms Damari was also shot in the leg, and previously said she had only received an out-of-date bottle of iodine to treat her wounds while in captivity. The 28-year-old said the complex operations on her hand and leg in Israel’s Sheba Medical Center had gone “much better than expected”. She said the scar on her hand was “looking better” and that the pain, caused by “the nerves being sewn together” in Gaza, had gone. Now, with the help of physiotherapy, she hoped to have improved use of her hand. But Ms Damari noted that her recovery would take time and her hand would “never fully recover”. She said the conditions in which hostages were being held were “unimaginable”. “It was shocking but not surprising to see how emaciated some of the other hostages were when they came out,” she reflected. “****** has created hell on Earth,” she said, adding that there were others whose mental and physical health was “in much worse shape” than hers. She called for the release of all remaining hostages without delay. Emily Damari Family Damari said the operations in Israel had gone “much better than expected” Ms Damari’s mother, who grew up in Beckenham in south-east London, added that her daughter had been “sewn up like a pin-cushion” in Gaza. “It is nothing short of a miracle that she did not contract a life-threatening infection,” said Mandy Damari. Ms Damari said she was “so excited” to visit the *** with her mother once she had healed and the remaining hostages are released. “I have so many people that I want to thank personally for helping me get my life back.” The pair have been invited to Downing Street by *** Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who previously spoke to Ms Damari over the phone. During that conversation, she said she had been held at United Nations facilities during her captivity. The UN’s Gaza agency has called for an independent investigation into the allegation. In total, 251 hostages were taken by ****** when it attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, and a further 1,200 people were killed. The attack triggered a war which has devastated Gaza. Israel’s military offensive killed at least 48,365 people, according to the territory’s ******-run health ministry. The first phase of a ceasefire came into force on 19 January, allowing the release of 33 Israeli and five Thai hostages in exchange for about 1,900 ************ prisoners. 19. Was Starmer’s summit enough to shift the diplomatic dial? Was Starmer’s summit enough to shift the diplomatic dial? Reuters Lancaster House may have been bathed in sunshine as European leaders gathered to chart a way forward for Ukraine. But there was a cloud hanging over the summit amid the gilt-edged grandeur of the former royal townhouse in central London. It came in the form of a question – was it all worth it? Was this gathering of European powers enough to shift the diplomatic dial? Or had the United States made up its mind to go it alone on finding a ceasefire in Ukraine? The Prime Minister’s answer was very much that Europe still had a role to play. He said the ***, France and others would work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting and then discuss that plan with the US. PA Media He said Europe would keep military aid flowing now and, in the event of a peace deal, it would boost Ukraine’s own defensive capabilities, building up the country’s “armed forces and border defences” to ensure that “Ukraine can draw on munitions, finance and equipment to defend itself,” according to the official conclusions of the summit. And Sir Keir said there would be a “coalition of the willing” to defend Ukraine and guarantee peace. Who or what that would involve is not yet clear. The Prime Minister merely said that there would be “a force consisting of European and other partners”. The *** and France have already said they would be willing to put boots on the ground in Ukraine to help deter Russian aggression. The European Commission chief, Ursula von der Leyen, said the purpose was to turn Ukraine into a “steel porcupine that is indigestible for potential invaders”. EPA The aim, it would appear, is to beef up the European offer for post-war security guarantees for Ukraine in an attempt to convince Donald Trump to promise a US military backstop. The President has thus far been reluctant to go down that route, suggesting the presence of US mining firms on the ground in Ukraine would be enough to keep the peace. Sir Keir does not share this view, saying explicitly “to support peace on our continent and to succeed, this effort must have strong US backing”. This summit was in many ways an attempt by Europe to take some ownership of the diplomacy. In recent weeks, efforts to end fighting in Ukraine have been led by Trump speaking to President Putin and at President Zelensky. The Europeans also wanted to find ways of repairing the transatlantic alliance, which is looking pretty fragile after the confrontation between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office on Friday. In recent weeks, the US administration has gone after its European allies; questioning their democracy, voting against them at the United Nations and – in the form of the president’s chief enforcer, Elon Musk – saying even the US should leave the Nato military alliance. The summit in London was an attempt by the Prime Minister both to calm diplomatic brows and stiffen diplomatic sinews. Diplomats said there was clear resolve around the table to support Ukraine but also to build on Trump’s desire to find a ceasefire. But Europe stepping up is only half of the story and much depends on whether the US is willing to play its part. Diplomats say the US is willing to de-escalate the tensions with Zelensky, but there were mixed messages on Sunday; the secretary of state Marco Rubio said America was ready to engage with Ukraine, but the US national security adviser Mike Waltz suggested Zelensky might have to resign as part of any ceasefire. So the outcome of the Lancaster House summit was seemingly a united European front in backing Zelensky, with the promise of more military support for Ukraine to come. But the cloud lurking in the London skies remains what the United States does next. And that is not yet clear. Trump and his deputy have made their antipathy towards Zelensky as clear as their trust in Putin. 24. ‘Dr ******’ sewed my nerves together, says freed hostage ‘Dr ******’ sewed my nerves together, says freed hostage Emily Damari, the British-Israeli former hostage, described how a medic calling himself “Dr ******” sewed her nerves together while operating on gunshot wounds to her hand after she was kidnapped in the October 7 attack. Ms Damari said she had “embraced” the pain and scars as she posted pictures of herself at an Israeli hospital where she had corrective surgery following her release. Thanking the Israeli medical team for helping her on the road to recovery, she described how she was taken to the notorious Al Shifa hospital in Gaza by ****** militants during her kidnapping. Israel has long accused ****** of using Shifa as a base. She said a surgeon there introduced himself as “Dr ******” before putting her under anaesthetic. “And then this moment arrived – they put me in the operating room with a body in front of me, I see the blue sky that should have been grey on a day like this. I ask God to protect me. “Then I woke up when ‘Dr ******’ informed me that I had two fingers missing and the wound on my foot remained open with four stitches instead of 16.” ‘I know that there are others still in captivity who are in much worse shape than I am,’ says Emily – Pomi Ofir Tal/PA She said she has now undergone a series of “complex operations” to her hand and leg after returning to Israel in January following 471 days in captivity. “I have fully embraced my hand, my pain, and my scars. To me they represent freedom, hope and strength,” Ms Damari, 29, said, holding up her wounded limbs at Sheba Medical Centre in central Israel. Mandy Damari, Emily’s mother, said that her daughter had been “sewn up like a pin cushion” by ******, causing significant pain both in her hand and leg. Her hand would never “fully recover”, Ms Damari said, “but the intense pain I had for a year and a half due to the nerves being sewn together after my first operation in Shifa hospital is now no longer with me and the large scar, that was caused by an open, festering wound that did not heal for four months because of the conditions of the tunnels I was held in, is now looking better.” Emily was treated at Al Shifa hospital, under which ****** had built extensive to hide hostages – Haitham Imad/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock Israel operated extensively in and around the Shifa hospital in the beginning of the war, accusing ****** of operating from there and holding hostages. The IDF would later reveal that ****** had built extensive tunnels under the hospital, and Ms Damari’s testimony now confirms that the terror group also held hostages here. Ms Damari told Sir Keir Starmer soon after her release that she was kept in tunnels, with no sanitation or access to clean water, and receiving no medical aid for her severe injuries other than an out-of-date bottle of iodine. “It is nothing short of a miracle that she did not contract a life-threatening infection,” her mother said. Emily tells of the intense pain she had for a year and a half as a captive Ms Damari also commented on the condition of some of the other Israeli hostages who had been released, saying it was “shocking but not surprising to see how emaciated some of the other hostages were when they came out”. “Although my injuries were not simple, I know that there are others still in captivity who are in much worse shape than I am, physically and mentally. Every remaining hostage must come home without any further delay. ****** has created hell on Earth, the conditions down there are unimaginable,” she added. Ms Damari said that with the help of physiotherapy she hoped to be able to use her hand “much more effectively” than was previously possible. “The surgery in my hand and leg went much better than expected, thanks to the expertise and professionalism at Sheba Medical Centre. I would like to thank the surgeons, the nurses and the staff at the hospital, for the incredible care I’ve received,” she said. Ms Damari has been invited by Sir Keir Starmer to visit Downing Street: “After I recover from my surgeries, and after the remaining hostages are all released, I will be so excited to come back to Britain. I have so many people that I want to thank personally for helping me get my life back.” As a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan, Ms Damari says she is determined to make the journey to London and thank her fellow fans who were heard to chant during games “Bring Emily Home” while she was a captive.
