  3. Bill shielding Florida elected officials’ addresses from public headed to governor Bill shielding Florida elected officials’ addresses from public headed to governor ORLANDO, Fla. — New legislation meant to protect elected officials and their families from harassment worries government watchdogs who say it would also prevent voters from knowing if their lawmakers live in their districts as required. The Florida Legislature in April overwhelmingly approved the bill (SB 268), which would exempt disclosure of phone numbers and the full home addresses of a wide range of public officials, including members of the Legislature. Sponsored by state Sen. Shevrin Jones, D-Miami Gardens, the bill aims to protect public officials and their families from threats, harassment and intimidation. It is now headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis for approval. State Sen. Jason Brodeur, R-Lake Mary, who co-sponsored the bill, said that several years ago, when he was serving in the Florida House, a brick was thrown at his home’s living room window. “Critics need to serve in office for 10 minutes before casting stones,” said Brodeur, whose district includes Seminole County and part of Orange County. “I don’t care what nonpublic officials think about it.” But Bobby Block, executive director of the Florida First Amendment Foundation, said he doubts the bill will prevent officials from being targeted — but is convinced it will hurt government accountability. “What this law will do is it will make it now impossible … for citizens to know, to be able to check, whether the person that they are voting for or reelecting still lives in the district they purport to represent,” he said. Block said Floridians’ First Amendment rights are threatened whenever government information is limited. The bill is just the latest in the Legislature’s decade-long effort to carve out exemptions to Florida’s public records laws, he said. “The Sunshine State is being increasingly the Shady State,” he added. State Rep. Bruce Antone, D-Orlando, faced an ethics complaint last year from his opponent in the Democratic Party primary who accused him of not living in his district, despite legal requirements to do so by Election Day. Addresses on multiple official documents — including voter registration forms, property tax records and campaign filings — suggested he did not live in his district, which covers part of Orlando and west Orange County, according to a 2024 report by Fresh Take Florida, a news service of the University of Florida journalism program. The bill — which Antone supported — would make information used in that investigation inaccessible. When asked if that story motivated his vote, Antone said he didn’t have “any particular reason” for supporting the bill. “Like the overwhelming majority of my house of representatives colleagues, I voted for the bill, and 95% of the bills that passed this session passed unanimously,” he said. The bill would allow someone to see an officials’ city and ZIP code but not their street address. The information that would be available may not be enough to confirm residency of lawmakers since many districts include multiple cities and ZIP codes. The bill also shields from the public the names of lawmakers’ neighborhoods and GPS coordinates or other data that would identify their home address. State Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, voted against the bill, one of just two members in the House to do so. She said she sympathizes with other lawmakers’ concerns — she has faced harassment at home — but does not want them addressed by limiting public access to information. Eskamani also said lawmakers shouldn’t have special privileges. “I’m uncomfortable giving myself special treatment or special privacy just because of the title next to my name,” she said. “At the end of the day, there’s a lot of individuals that are at risk, that are harassed just like we are, and they don’t have that same kind of protection.” If signed into law by DeSantis, the bill will take effect July 1 and apply to members of Congress and the Florida Legislature, the governor and Cabinet, mayors, county property appraisers and supervisors of elections, school superintendents, school board members and city and county commissioners. The spouses and adult children of those officials would have the same information exempted, and minor children would have additional information kept private, including their names, birth dates and names and locations of schools or day care facilities they attend. State law already blocks from the public that information for law enforcement personnel and active or former civilian personnel employed by law enforcement; current or former Supreme Court justices; judges in county, circuit and appeals courts; state attorneys; public defenders; county tax collectors; and clerks of circuit court. Former state Sen. ****** Fine, elected to Congress in April, said during a committee hearing on the bill in February that the legislation would protect lawmakers, recounting the death threats he said he’d received. “I may be the only member of the Legislature who has had two people arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned for making death threats,” Fine said. “The last guy is sitting in jail right now because he said he knew where I lived, and he was coming to my house right then and there to kill me and my family, and we had to have law enforcement pull up to our house with sirens blaring and everything else.” Block, though opposed to the bill, said he worries the sense of fear in American politics contributed to the bill’s passage, noting the April arson attack on Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who had to flee the governor’s mansion with his family in the middle of the night. “Lawmakers, public officials, are afraid,” Block said. “They’re afraid of their rivals, they’re afraid of trolls online, they’re afraid of their base, they’re afraid of their opponent’s base. It is a sad indictment of the times in which we live now.” Source link #Bill #shielding #Florida #elected #officials #addresses #public #headed #governor Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Trump claims a ‘total reset’ has been reached with China during high-stakes trade talks Trump claims a ‘total reset’ has been reached with China during high-stakes trade talks Yahoo is using AI to generate takeaways from this article. This means the info may not always match what’s in the article. Reporting mistakes helps us improve the experience.Generate Key Takeaways President Donald Trump claims that there has been “a total reset” with China after his aggressive tariffs fueled a trade war with the world’s second-biggest economy. The two countries are holding high-stakes talks this weekend after being at loggerheads for weeks over the tariffs. “A very good meeting today with China, in Switzerland. Many things discussed, much agreed to. A total reset negotiated in a friendly, but constructive, manner,” Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday evening. “We want to see, for the good of both China and the U.S., an opening up of China to American business. GREAT PROGRESS MADE!!!” While no handout of the negotiations has yet been provided by either country, China’s state-run news agency Xinhua described Saturday’s meetings as “an important step toward resolving the dispute.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer were deployed to meet with their ******** counterparts in Geneva in an attempt to thrash out a deal. President Donald Trump shared a positive Truth Social message Saturday night about the talks in Switzerland with China. The president said that there had been ‘a total reset’ with China after weeks of tension over trade tariffs. (POOL/AFP/AFP via Getty Images) Saturday’s meeting lasted at least eight hours, according to the Wall Street Journal, but a deal was not announced. Talks will resume Sunday. Trump imposed tariffs of 145 percent on ******** goods, while China has set 125 percent tariffs on U.S. products, with huge consequences for both countries. China supplies a massive amount of electronics, toys, textiles and furniture to the U.S. as it buys grains and oilseeds from American farmers, as well as oil and gas. But in recent days, Trump has hinted that he could lower the tariffs in a bid to turn down the heat between the two nations. The president on Friday suggested lowering the tariffs to 80 percent. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Friday that Trump may even settle near 34 percent during an interview with Fox News, the rate the president announced on April 2. 7. I’d jump at the chance to swap my 24-inch LCD monitor for this 25-inch color E Ink alternative – if only I could afford it I’d jump at the chance to swap my 24-inch LCD monitor for this 25-inch color E Ink alternative – if only I could afford it Boox, the maker of some of the best ereaders and E Ink writing tablets, has just announced its first ever color PC monitor. Called the Boox Mira Pro, it uses a 25.3-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 display that emulates the look of paper – a screen technology that’s already in use in several popular ereaders, including the Kindle Colorsoft and the Kobo Libra Colour. Like ereaders, the Mira Pro is front lit rather than having backlighting like on LCD screens, with the ability to adjust both brightness and the light temperature (warm or cold). There’s also a dedicated refresh button to minimize ghosting which can be a major problem on e-paper displays. This paper-like panel will also reduce reflections and glare. To bolster its monitor credentials, the Mira Pro also features a pair of built-in speakers and five ports, including USB-C, HDMI, mini HDMI and DisplayPort. You can also get a Mira Pro version to support the operating system you use, whether that’s Windows, Mac or Linux. You may like That’s about it for the Mira Pro’s main credentials, which is essentially a color version of the ******-and-white Boox Mira that was launched in 2023. (Image credit: Onyx Boox) An easy read I’m a huge proponent of ereaders because of the E Ink screens they use, whether in grayscale or color. For avid readers like me, they’re ‘easy on the eyes’, allowing you to read right until bedtime. So wouldn’t it be nice if there was a capable E Ink PC monitor that didn’t strain the eyes as much for the approximately eight hours I spend working? As a photographer, I wouldn’t use an E Ink screen to edit my photos as the colors would be too soft and unsaturated, but I can absolutely see it fitting into my workflow in the office, which is predominantly as an editor of articles for TechRadar. It would replace the aging 24-inch Dell monitor I currently have set up in the vertical orientation specifically for editing articles because it has major viewing-angle issues. Checking drafts written in a Google Document by one of the writers on my team would be fantastic on an E Ink display. I’ve already tried doing so on an E Ink screen, albeit on the 10-inch one on the Boox Go 10.3 as it allows me to log into my Google Drive account. However, it’s not the easiest device to type on (and I can’t write on Google Docs on it), so a dedicated monitor that seamlessly connects with my MacBook and other peripherals would be nice indeed. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. (Image credit: Onyx Boox) Got any spare change? It’s the limited use of an E Ink display that has me questioning its launch price of $1,899.99 / AU$2, 499 (about £1,400). I’m also a little concerned with how well the E Ink Kaleido 3 display on the Mira Pro might have been optimized to display the 4,096 colors in its palette. While color Boox ereaders are good – and I’ve tested many of them – I think Kobo has done a better job of making full use of the Kaleido 3 tech. So while the Mira Pro might be just enough for my specific use case, I suspect other users would find it lacking. Moreover, based on my previous experience with Boox ereaders (color or monochrome), the company hasn’t always been able to minimize ghosting – except on the Boox Palma – despite offering multiple refresh rates that can be applied on a per-application basis. Would the refresh button be any better? Well, I can’t say for sure as I’ve not tried either the Mira or the Mira Pro. As high as the price might seem, particularly taking into consideration the limitations of such a screen, it does seem to be kinda, sorta on par with ereader prices. For example, 10-inch monochrome E Ink writing tablets like the 2024 Kindle Scribe and the reMarkable 2 sell for upwards of $400 / £370 / AU$600, while the color reMarkable Paper Pro (which uses a custom version of the newer E Ink Gallery 3 technology) will set you back $579 / £559 / AU$929 with the basic Marker. Extrapolate these prices for a 25-inch display and throw in the cost of the stand and I can see why it’s priced so high. And customers in the US will need to also take into consideration any potential tariffs, so expect to pay more than the listed launch price. Despite the high price, I’d be very excited to have something like that on my desk. 11. Crime-committing migrants ‘kicked out’ and ‘Trump Inc’ Crime-committing migrants ‘kicked out’ and ‘Trump Inc’ The Observer, fresh from a recent takeover, continues its new style of full-page front page photographs with a striking picture of US President Donald Trump’s dynasty, showing his children and their spouses. A magazine-style headline, trailing to a full piece inside the paper, reads “The firm: Trump Inc and the new age of corruption”. Many of Sunday’s papers lead on the government’s new immigrations plans. “Commit any crime and you’re out, migrants to be warned”, the Daily Mail says under what it calls a “planned government crackdown”. The Home Office will be “told of all foreign nationals convicted of any offence”, with officials given “wider powers” to remove them from the ***, the paper says. The Sunday Express also leads on immigration, but on migrants’ lawyers “abusing the system”. The paper says foreign criminals will not be able to abuse what it calls “controversial human rights laws” under new government plans. According to the Express, the plans will be the “biggest overhaul of immigration laws since Brexit”. “I was off my nut on EastEnders”, reads the Sun’s headline on what it labels a Danny Dyer exclusive. The former soap star says he was on prescription drugs, such as valium and diazepam during his time on the show, and according to the paper, “blasted co-stars, scripts and BBC bosses” for what he calls “not much duty of care”. The accompanying story does reveal these claims did not come during a face-to-face interview with the Sun, but rather an on-stage rant made by Dyer at a recent charity event. In more TV news, the Sunday People goes remarkably early with its speculation of who will be appearing in the 23rd series of Strictly Come Dancing from this September. The paper’s sources suggest that reality star and 2017’s I’m a Celebrity queen of the jungle Georgia “Toff” Toffolo will be getting on her dance shoes. The People also tips the son of a real-lfe queen – Queen Camilla’s eldest child, Tom Parker Bowles – to be anothe contestant. The Sunday Telegraph claims retired policeman Julian Foulkes was arrested and cautioned in 2023 for a “thought crime” after challenging a supporter of pro-************ marches on X. Police body-worn camera footage showed officers looking through his books including titles by Douglas Murray at his home in Kent, it adds. “Free speech is clearly under attack”, the former special constable says. A police spokesperson tells the Telegraph the caution was “not appropriate in the circumstances and should not have been issued”. The Sunday Times runs with a lead story on businessman Graham King – known as the “Asylum King” – who it says has become a billionaire after “profits soared” for his migrant-housing firm. The Times says he has recorded a 35% jump in his fortune, which has landed him a spot on the paper’s Rich List. It also talks about the government’s new plans on immigration. The Sunday Mirror splashes with a story on the Duchess of Sussex’s dad, who they say has a “new life… a world away from hers”. According to the paper, Thomas Markle rents a “£500-a-month apartment in the Philippines” with his son. And finally, the Daily Star decides to have some fun with what it calls “frisky farmers” and a poll suggesting that nearly 70% of them thinking they are – in the paper’s words – “best in bed”. Accompanying it is a cheekily Photoshopped picture of TV celebrity farmer Jeremy Clarkson in a straw hat, lying atop a bale of hay. Police will allege the uncovered approximately 1,110 blocks of ********, weighing 1.039 tonnes inside the vessel. The amount of the seized ******** equates to over a million individual hits according to police experts, with an estimated potential street value of $623.4 million. Organised Crime Squad detectives charged five people after obtaining intelligence in relation to the suspicious purchase of a 13m motor cruiser, with a large sum of cash, in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire on Monday April 28. Investigators targeting drug supply and money laundering began a collaboration with the NSW Crime Commission and *********** Federal Police, to gather information on those involved. Officers monitored the group as they travelled north up the NSW coast and Friday, as the vessel travelled back to shore towards South West Rocks it was intercepted by the NSWPF Marine Area Command at around 9.30am. Police then swooped simultaneously on three men aged 28, 29 and 35 and they were arrested on shore after investigators stopped two vehicles attempting to leave the South West Rocks area, before they were taken to Taree Police Station for questioning. Forensic specialists are examining the seized drugs and will be conducting further testing to determine the exact weight and purity of the drugs. Four search warrants were then executed at homes in the Newcastle suburbs of Beresfield and Edgeworth, Belmont North and Cardiff South, with police seizing electronic devices, documents and clothing. Camera IconPolice have made a massive ******** bust off the coast of NSW. Credit: NSW Police. A further search warrant was executed by the AFP at a home at Catherine Hill Bay, where they seized communications devices and cash. NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein said the arrests are a testament to how rapidly policing resources can coordinate and stop significant amounts of drug coming into the country. “Whether on land or sea, NSW Police have the investigative capability to disrupt and undermine criminal enterprise,” A/Assistant Commissioner Weinstein said. “This seizure shows how our continuous monitoring of known organised crime methodologies with our law enforcement partners, can be actioned into a successful multi-agency operation with those involved immediately arrested to prevent illicit drugs entering NSW. “Our ability to pivot and protect the community is evident in this week’s actions. Make no mistake these drugs, if allowed to enter our communities, would have had devastating impacts on people’s lives and social cohesion, particularly in regional townships. “The NSW Police Force is committed to protecting our citizens and are proud of the work being done to shut down and suppress organised crime and place those responsible before the courts.” Camera IconPolice have made a massive ******** bust off the coast of NSW. The three men at Taree were also charged with taking part in supplying a prohibited drug in large commercial quantity and participating in criminal group. They all appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where they were all formally refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday July 15. AFP Assistant Commissioner Stephen Dametto said *********** law enforcement agencies were committed to crippling and dismantling organised crime groups motivated by greed and indifferent to the devastation caused by their actions. “The AFP and NSW Police Force have a long history of disrupting criminal networks attempting to import drugs that destroy our community. Combining our resources and expertise allows us to get successful outcomes like the one we are announcing today,” Assistant Commissioner Dametto said. “Australia’s vast coastline is attractive to organised crime groups, who attempt to exploit this by trying to import drugs using boats. The bad news for them is the AFP will continue to work together with our partners to target organised crime syndicates who wrongly believe they can operate with impunity. “Importation of drugs via the sea is inherently dangerous, and criminals using this smuggling method risk both their freedom and their lives.” Source link #******** #bust #Crime #authorities #raid #boat #seize #monster #623m #drug #haul #coast #NSW Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  16. Jacinta Nampijinpa Price: New Liberal senator announces deputy leadership run Jacinta Nampijinpa Price: New Liberal senator announces deputy leadership run In a move that will likely further enrage some politicians within the Coalition, Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, has announced she will run for the deputy leadership of the Liberal party only days after defecting from the Nationals. Senator Price is getting behind Peter Dutton’s former shadow treasurer, Angus Taylor, as he throws his hat in the ring to take on Sussan Ley for the Liberal leadership at a party room meeting in Canberra on Tuesday. In a statement released on Sunday Ms Price confirmed she will support Mr Taylor in their bid to wrestle control of the party in the aftermath of an historic defeat in the Federal election. “Today I announce my candidacy for Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and my endorsement for Angus Taylor’s candidacy for Leader,” Ms Price told Sky News. “With respect to my decision to change party rooms, these are not matters which I take lightly and this decision today brings with it a great deal of responsibility. “There is no question that returning to our roots as a party is critical right now. If we want to inspire and empower Australians across our country, we must return to these roots. “I think of my grandparents who were by no means the elite, building their first home by hand with hessian bags and washing their clothes in the creek in Warners Bay, NSW,” Ms Price added. “But they saw a spark, a vision of a brighter future for generations to come.” Outspoken Senator Matt Canavan has been highly critical of Ms Price’s defection and the announcement will add further fuel to a simmering fire within Coalition ranks. Canavan also announced this week that he will challenge fellow Queenslander and incumbent Nationals leader David Littleproud in the party room meeting. The senator, who was a minister in the Turnbull and Morrison governments, said he wanted to “bring back our fighting spirit” and lead the party away from a “hiding our light under a bushel approach (which) failed catastrophically”. His announcement came after Ms Price’s defection to the Liberal Party, which prompted outrage from the Senator and other Nationals colleagues. In announcing his bid, Senator Canavan said Mr Littleproud should be “enormously proud of his role in defeating the Voice, putting nuclear power on the agenda, and having divestiture powers adopted as Coalition policy for the first time”. “But this debate is not about protecting his job or mine. This is about fighting for the jobs and livelihoods of the many people we represent. Many of the people that vote for the Nationals party have to shower after work, not before it,” he said in a statement. 20. McDonald’s Just Made a Big Menu Announcement That Fans Have Been Begging For McDonald’s Just Made a Big Menu Announcement That Fans Have Been Begging For Adobe/Allrecipes In 2023, McDonald’s debuted a new spin-off restaurant focused on specialty beverages in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Although customers reported hours-long wait times, bribes, and what seemed like an endless line of cars, that didn’t dampen the mood—fans were overall very excited to be at the world’s very first CosMc’s. Named after a long-forgotten mascot from McDonaldland, CosMc’s opening signaled a new turn for the Golden Arches. With a menu that boasts everything from iced tea to lemonade, coffee drinks, slushies, and frappés, the debut solidified McDonald’s position as a worthwhile competitor to beverage big names like Starbucks and Dunkin’. Now, there are four CosMc’s across Texas, plus the flagship in Illinois. And, if you don’t live near the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas or Chicago, your chances of trying some of McDonald’s most inventive creations are close to nil. But that’s all about to change. McDonald’s just had its 2025 Q1 Earnings Call, where its CEO revealed some “interesting learnings” from the launch of CosMc’s—one of which will impact the drink offerings at McDonald’s as early as this year. According to the call, the specialty beverages sector continues to be profitable, and McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski stated that, “We think there’s more that we can be doing to capture our fair share of that.” This might come as a surprise for those who know CosMc’s menu by heart. With several first-of-their-kind drinks under its belt, like the Churro Cold Brew Frappé and the fan-favorite Popping Pear Slush, a prickly pear-flavored slushie topped with popping candy, it’s hard to believe McDonald’s wants to do more. Another thing McDonald’s observed is that whenever its name is attached to a product, customers expect food. That seems like a no-brainer, but it creates a challenge for CosMc’s. Even though CosMc’s menu includes small bites, the real stars are its drinks, which are being overshadowed by McDonald’s reputation. So, what does this mean in practice for the fast food giant? It means they’re bringing the creativity behind CosMc’s delightful drinks and rolling them out to Mickey D’s. “Later this year, in partnership with our franchisees, we’ll be launching a beverage test in the U.S. in some of our existing McDonald’s restaurants that will incorporate new menu items inspired by CosMc’s,” Kempczinski revealed. Story Continues While there was no further mention of CosMc’s, nor details on how McDonald’s plans to overhaul its drink menu, other than a reiteration of its commitment “to going after beverages,” that didn’t diminish fans’ excitement about the news. “Finally, tasty menu items for the USA!” someone commented on a social post. “I always get so jealous of the other countries’ menu items.” “I NEED ALL OF THEM,” exclaimed another one. It’s hard to tell whether McDonald’s will roll out CosMc’s beverages one-to-one in its stores, but the announcement signals a new beginning for the Golden Arches. Here’s hoping we’ll soon be able to grab otherworldly sips like the Iced French Toast Galaxy Latte alongside the new McCrispy Strips, all from one place. 23. This Well-Known Toy Company Is Set to Be an Outperformer if the Tariff War Continues This Well-Known Toy Company Is Set to Be an Outperformer if the Tariff War Continues Mattel’s (NASDAQ: MAT) stock was something of a hot item after the toy company reported its first-quarter results in early May — and not only because it scored a double beat on analyst estimates. At a time when investors are worried about the impact of the current tariff war on American commerce, the company’s management said the right things about its ability to weather the storm. Here’s a look at what management intends to do about the situation, and why both investors and analysts were pleased with the company’s strategy — not to mention those quarterly figures. Mattel’s fundamentals headed in the right direction, with net sales ringing up at a bit under $827 million for year-over-year growth of 2%. Non-GAAP (adjusted) net loss per share narrowed, meanwhile, to $0.03 from the year-ago shortfall of $0.05. Better, the two line items came in far ahead of the consensus analyst estimates of $786 million on the top line and $0.09 per share for adjusted net loss. Image source: Getty Images. Tariffs are front and center of many investor worries these days. To its credit, Mattel addressed the situation clearly and directly. The good news right off the bat is that not only did the levies fail to affect Q1 performance, they probably won’t do so in Q2 either. This is down to what management described as “the timing of inventory flows,” a flowery way of saying the company has essentially secured most of the goods it needs for this quarter’s manufacturing. Beyond that (should the tariff tussle last that long), Mattel has come up with a set of actions to dampen the effect of higher costs of affected goods. It said it is speeding up the diversification of its supply chain generally, reducing its dependence on China, and “optimizing product sourcing and product mix.” Last but surely not least, it’ll adjust prices strategically for U.S. consumers if need be. Mattel has a degree of flexibility here; in the conference call discussing the quarter, CEO Ynon Kreiz said that the company sources products from business partners located in seven countries. Another nugget the Mattel leader dropped was that China is responsible for less than 40% of worldwide production of the company’s toys. While that’s still a chunky number, it’s well below what Kreiz said is the current 80% average of the toy industry. Story Continues On top of that, before the tariffs were announced, Mattel had already been gradually relocating the production of certain lines from China to other locales. As for its proximate future, Mattel’s holding off on providing full-year 2025 guidance until such time as it “has sufficient visibility, given the volatile macro-economic environment and evolving U.S. tariff situation,” as stated in the earnings release. Nevertheless, the company’s got some potential stock price boosters coming up. A line of action figures based on characters from the hit cinema video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie has done well on the market, Kreiz said in the conference call. The film’s director, Jared Hess, recently said that discussions were already taking place about a sequel, nicely positioning Mattel for another round. Meanwhile, the company has inked multiyear, worldwide licensing deals with several prominent intellectual property holders. For instance, it has one in place with longtime partner Walt Disney for the Toy Story franchise from the entertainment giant’s Pixar unit. Like A Minecraft Movie, the planned 2026 release of Toy Story 5 should spur plenty of demand for representations of Woody and the gang. So basically, Mattel not only notched convincing beats on key Q1 fundamentals, it has a clear-eyed vision on how to manage the current global economic turmoil. And with some lucrative licensing deals locked down for the next few years, it looks like growth is in the cards for the company. 25. *********** players uncertain, even if IPL does resume *********** players uncertain, even if IPL does resume Australia’s cricketers are in a state of flux, uncertain whether the Indian Premier League will resume and some questioning if they will return regardless. Players boarded flights out of India on Saturday, after the tournament was postponed on Friday due to the escalating conflict with Pakistan. Australians featuring in the Pakistan Super League were also planning trips home, after plans to move the rest of that tournament to the UAE were abandoned. But as players began making their exits with most on multi-leg flights, it emerged both tournaments could potentially resume after a ceasefire between the two countries. Reports of explosions have since been reported in border towns in the Kashmir region in the hours after that ceasefire, prompting further questions on whether a resumption will be possible. AAP understands that there is a genuine question from some players whether they would want to return to play out the tournament, after being left shaken by the situation over the past week. If the IPL was to resume, shifting all games to southern parts of India, well away from the Pakistan border would appear the most likely option. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are already out of finals contention, with each only having one or two games left. Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Nathan Ellis are Australians playing for those three lower-ranked teams. The IPL window is also meant to close on May 25, with Australia set to begin preparations for the World Test Championship final against South Africa starting on June 11. Australians from the Pakistani Super League are also unsure if that tournament could resume, and whether they would be able to go back and play due to logistics. Players in Pakistan narrowly avoided being caught up in the drama on Friday, flying out of an airbase in Islamabad hours before it was struck by missiles. The safety of players in the IPL was thrown into the spotlight on Thursday night, after a game between Dharamsala was abandoned mid-match with air raid warnings in the area. The match ended up being the last one played before officials met the next day to postpone games for at least a week, with that hold set to be lifted on Thursday. Another option for Indian officials would be to move games overseas, with South Africa and the UAE having previously hosted games. The English and Wales Cricket Board are also reported to be open to assisting by hosting matches, with 12 regular-season games still scheduled to be played and four finals.
