  1. All creative work goes through several iterations before arriving in its final form. This very post, for example, began as a little notice of the release of The Midnight Walk, before I realised Edwin had already done that. Now it's instead about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, an RPG which Nic definitely described in his review as "operatically, hauntingly, and slightly unhingedly French". Turns out it wasn't always so, as early in development Clair Obscur was set in "a steampunk Victorian England", and there's some early footage of it in action. Read more View the full article

  10. So there's a passage in biographical novel The Moon & Sixpence where art connoisseur Dirk Stroeve spends months helping painter Charles Strickland recover from a life-threatening illness. Once well, Strickland returns the favour by promptly nicking Dirk's wife Blanche. Strickland eventually leaves her, Blanche gargles acid and dies, and a hangdog Dirk returns to the apartment to find Strickland's nude painting of Blanche, mocking his heartbreak. Manic and inconsolable, Dirk grabs a paint scraper and flings himself at the painting ready to destroy it, but can't. He's overcome by an appreciation for the work; in awe of the object that mocks him. I get it, really I do. I'm standing before horrible strategy game Anoxia Station, with my paint scraper, ready to gouge a hole in it for making me feel like *****. Stressed. Anxious. Irritated. Exhausted. When Anoxia Station wants to tell you that temperature has dropped to dangerous levels, it shoves a steamy, cracked-ice overlay on screen that's so opaque it makes interacting with the game a chore. I should be furious. Read more View the full article

  13. Helldivers 2's Galactic Emergency update has introduced the Illuminate invasion, but you also get better arsenal management in the form of weapon customization. The weapon customization is fairly straightforward, and it opens a host of new options when it comes to your loadout. This guide will note down all the important steps that you'll have to perform, and how to make the most of them. Helldivers 2 weapon customization guide You can customize and modify almost any primary gun in Helldivers 2 and add new attachments. Equip your primary weapon, and start earning XP (more on that later). Your weapon will level up as it gains XP. Once a round is over, go back to the armory and select that weapon. Screenshot by Destructoid Press the L3/LS to bring up the customization menu. You'll find a set of attachments that can be purchased with the help of Requisition Slips. Every attachment has its own defined way of affecting gameplay, and determines how the weapons work. As of writing, you can customize only primary weapons, and there are still some restrictions on them. I am hopeful that more weapons will be added to the list of customizable options. How to level up your weapons in Helldivers 2? The level-up system for your primary weapons is slightly strange. You'll have to complete missions to gain XP, and it doesn't matter how much/less you're using your primary weapons. The only experience points you can earn are from completing the missions. To earn more XP, just concentrate on completing as many secondary objectives as possible. The highest amount of XP can be earned if you manage to successfully extract yourself, so that should be your primary focus. Screenshot by Destructoid Helldivers 2 weapon stats explained It's important to understand what a particular stat means before you can add attachments to a gun. Damage: Amount of damage dealt to enemies on every hit.Ergonomics: Determines the speed of aiming down sights.Fire Limit: The Ammo capacity of a weapon.Fire Rate: Firing speed of a weapon.Horizontal Recoil: Sidewise movement of a weapon.Magazines: Amount of extra ammunition you can carry.Reload Time: Time taken by the gun to reload.Sway: Weapon movement when firing it.Vertical Recoil: Vertical movement of the weapon during firing. Always try to use attachments that remove one or more of the negative factors of a weapon, or solidify a positive stat to make the gun more powerful. 16. Do you enjoy reading up on video game lore and storylines? There's a ton of historical information throughout The Precinct that you'll mostly find by reading plaques scattered around Averno City. Reading all 20 will even give you the Historian trophy as an additional incentive to locate them all. Table of contentsHow to complete the Historian achievement in The PrecinctACPO PrecinctAverno Industrial Steel MillEastern Averno City BridgeAverno GuardiansFounders' BankSt. Harry's HospitalAverno City's First R.A.A.T StationHelipadCoastal Seating AreaChinatownThe ColosseumHotel RougeSerenity ParkAverno City's Museum of Local HistoryBeale BroadcastElectric Avenue TheaterThe Roxy LoungeJammy's DonutsWestern Averno City BridgeAverno City DocksHow to complete the Historian achievement in The Precinct The Precinct has 20 plaque locations to find around Averno City. The northern half of the map has 10 plaques, while the southern part has the remaining ten. Here's a complete list and map of every plaque location: Screenshot by Destructoid Screenshot by Destructoid ACPO Precinct Screenshot by Destructoid Our first plaque is right next to the Averno City Police station. As you walk out its doors, go to the back of the building until you see a loading dock, a back entrance, and a plaque against its back walls. Averno Industrial Steel Mill Screenshot by Destructoid Our next stop is the Averno Industrial Steel Mill in Brookhaven. Within this zone, you'll find a large factory building, with the plaque located next to the Brookhaven subway tunnel entrance. Eastern Averno City Bridge Screenshot by Destructoid Make sure not to leave Brookhaven yet. There's another plaque near the Lacoina Bridge's entryway, right on the corner of a brown brick building. You'll know you're close when you're next to the bridge and see a 55-mile speed limit sign and the plaque beside it. Averno Guardians Screenshot by Destructoid We're heading to the heart of Averno for this next plaque. Head on over to Central Plaza to find another plaque right inside an alcove in the central statue. Founders' Bank Screenshot by Destructoid Did you know there's an Averno City Bank in Mercer Heights? After reading the Averno Guardians plaque in the Central Plaza, travel south into Mercer Heights and watch out for this city bank building to find your next lore story beside its entrance. St. Harry's Hospital Screenshot by Destructoid Another location you may not often visit is the northern sections of Baltimore Terrace, particularly St. Harry's Hospital. Visiting this spot in the northern half of this zone will let you read another plaque to the left of its entrance. Averno City's First R.A.A.T Station Screenshot by Destructoid One of the most helpful systems in The Precinct is its fast travel system using R.A.A.T subway trains. Right next to the station in South Shore is your next plaque, ready for you to read. Helipad Screenshot by Destructoid Have you ever walked along the docks near Haddonfield Point? Directly northeast is a helipad and various storage containers, with the former having another plaque to read. Coastal Seating Area Screenshot by Destructoid This one is especially tricky to spot if you don't actively complete Time Trials or stick to Averno City's mainland. Within Pilgrims' Lookout and Slipwater Yard is a Coastal Seating Area plaque on what used to be a lighthouse but is now a dismantled and smaller structure just off the highway. Chinatown Screenshot by Destructoid We're taking a trip over to Chinatown now for our final plaque in Averno's southern half. Right in the center of Chinatown, you'll spot Chow's Gems and Watches next to a staircase leading to the zone's upper levels. The plaque is along one of the stone brick walls connected to these stairs. The Colosseum Screenshot by Destructoid Our first stop in the northern half of Averno City is the Colosseum on the east side of town. Along its eastern wall is a plaque commemorating the city's ice hockey team victories over the years. Hotel Rouge Screenshot by Destructoid It's time to learn more about Sunnyside and its shops. More specifically, we're looking out for Hotel Rouge, a streetside shop facing Serenity Park with some red canopies and a plaque next to its entrance. Serenity Park Screenshot by Destructoid Speaking of Serenity Park, that's our next destination. This plaque is also tricky, as it sits on a tree trunk next to the park's western entrance. Look for a stone staircase leading into the park with a massive tree next to it to find the plaque and read more about the area's history. Averno City's Museum of Local History Screenshot by Destructoid One of the most interesting parts of Averno City is the Dutch Exchange museum. It's particularly eye-catching, especially when you're looking for the plaque next to its entrance. Read through its lore to get one step closer to unlocking the Historian achievement. Beale Broadcast Screenshot by Destructoid Yes, even the local news station has a plaque to help you learn more about its history and services. The broadcasting station is also in the Dutch Exchange, with this building in its western half rather than the east. You'll spot blue and white signs plastered about, and the plaque next to "Averno Sentinel" text. Electric Avenue Theater Screenshot by Destructoid Are you ready to see a show? Although The Precinct doesn't let you sit back and watch movies at the theater, it does let you read the plaque next to its front entrance. You'll spot this theater in Shermer Court's upper half along the building's wall. The wall faces Electric Avenue, so watch out for nearby cars. The Roxy Lounge Screenshot by Destructoid If you're looking for a wild night at a lounge, Carlito is where you'll find it. Within this area is the Peep Show lounge near the Electric Avenue and Sentinel Square road curve. You'll spot the plaque between this round and the In Love By Act 3 Record & Tape center. Jammy's Donuts Screenshot by Destructoid After a long day of surveying Averno City as a police officer, sitting back and eating some donuts sounds great. Fortunately, you only need to travel to Boddicker Yard's fast travel station to get some. As a bonus, you'll find another plaque, getting you one step closer to finding them all. Western Averno City Bridge Screenshot by Destructoid One of the more peculiar plaque locations in The Precinct is one southwest of Skid Row, next to Longmile Bridge. You won't find much here, but you will see a large green and white metal building with a plaque on its wall. Averno City Docks Screenshot by Destructoid Last but not least, we have the Averno City Docks directly north of Carver Port. If you're familiar with The Precinct's rare cars, you may recognize this spot near the Extra Woodie vehicle's spawn location. At the docks, you'll find a massive red brick building with a plaque near its southern corner. Once you read this final lore screen, you'll officially have every The Precinct plaque checked off your list, rewarding you with the Historian achievement or trophy, depending on your platform.
