  1. While it's a core pillar of so many PC games, MOBAs like League of Legends have never got on board with WASD movement controls. The strategic traversal of the Summoner's Rift has always lent itself to the classic point-and-click method, and using your mouse to move in the heat of complex and intense skirmishes is a skill all of its own. However, a new datamine appears to show that Riot is ready to add the option to play LoL with WASD controls in what would be a pretty major change to the status quo. Read the rest of the story... 2. Recent datamining has suggested that Genshin Impact could end up breaking a major pattern with Skirk, as she will be the first character to be accompanied by a limited 5-Star in her trial domain. One of the oldest unspoken rules of Genshin Impact has been selling a limited 5-Star character on the strength of their ability kit alone. For example, Yelan is one of the best possible teammates for Hu Tao, but Hu Tao has always been paired up with Xingqiu in her character trial. View the full article
  3. Electronic Arts has announced to employees that it will be ending its remote working policies permanently, and implementing a full return to office. In an email sent to employees today viewed by IGN, CEO Andrew Wilson said that in-person work results in "a kinetic energy that fuels creativity, innovation, and connection, often resulting in unexpected breakthroughs that lead to incredible experiences for our players." He then went on to broadly outline that "hybrid work" would now be defined as a "minimum of three days a week in your local office," and that "offsite local roles" would be gradually phased out. In a follow-up email from EA Entertainment president, Laura Miele, also viewed by IGN, she clarified further details, describing the company as moving from "a decentralized approach to a globally consistent, enterprise-wide work model": These changes will not take effect immediately. Employees should continue working as directed by your Business Unit until further notice, regardless of where you live.Work model transitions will come with a minimum 12-week notice ******* before any changes are implemented. The timing will vary by location and will be communicated locally with plenty of notice.Hybrid work will mean working from your local office at least three days per week–this aligns with what’s outlined in Andrew’s EA Action. We are introducing a new 30-mile/48-km radius around EA locations. What this means:Employees who live within 30-miles/48-km of an EA location will transition to a Hybrid work model. Employees who live outside the 30-mile/48-km radius will be considered remote unless their role is designated as On Site or Hybrid. We will also sunset the Offsite Local work model. Depending on your location, this transition may take 3 to 24 months.Any work model exception and future Remote hires will require a CEO Direct’s /my approval. Several sources within EA speaking to IGN anonymously said that employees were upset and confused, with some employees sharing hours-long commutes they were now being expected to make, or expressing concerns regarding childcare or personal medical conditions that had benefited from remote work. Others, classified as remote and outside the 30-mile range, expressed concern for what would happen to their roles if they were unwilling or unable to move closer to an office long-term. Two sources explained to IGN that per the breakdown sent by Miele, existing remote workers would have their "exemptions" to return to office "sunset" sometime in the next 3 to 24 months. While remote work has long been prevalent in the video game industry, it became exceptionally popular during and after the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, when stay-at-home mandates forced most AAA companies to adapt remote work as a long-term solution. In the years since, more and more companies have hired more and more remote workers, and existing near-office workers have reported moving to cheaper cities away from offices, under the impression that remote work was permanent. However, other major video game companies have recently been calling workers back to office, resulting in frustration and, at times, employee turnover as workers were forced to choose between expensive or challenging relocation and their jobs. Companies such as Rockstar Games, Ubisoft, and Activision Blizzard have all faced criticism from within and without as a result of these policies. However, the return to office mandates have appeared to move apace, with more companies such as EA opting to require an in-office model once again. EA recently laid off around 300 individuals company-wide, following earlier layoffs at BioWare this year and the termination of around 670 roles last year. IGN has reached out to EA for comment. 5. If you're a Steam user, you've likely heard rumors about a massive data breach affecting users. The news of compromised accounts and stolen information quickly spread, causing concern among gamers. Many rushed to secure their accounts, fearing the worst, until, allegedly, Valve stepped in and debunked the entire breach narrative. The rumors started circulating after a LinkedIn post from Underdark suggested that data from 2FA SMS logs via Twilio, a digital service provider, had been leaked, with claims that 89 million user records were compromised. But this seems to have been proven false. Users on Twitter/X pointed out that Valve clarified it does not use Twilio for its 2FA services, debunking the speculation. We've contacted Valve for an official statement but have not yet received a response. Whether the rumors are true or false, it's always wise to stay vigilant and ensure you take all necessary precautions. Here's what you can do to safeguard your accounts. How to secure your Steam account You can protect your Steam account in the following ways: Change your passwordSet up a phone number with your Steam accountUse the Steam Guard Mobile AuthenticatorEnable Steam Guard Since Valve hasn't officially confirmed the data breach, now might be an excellent opportunity to update your password. It's a simple step to help you feel more secure if anything unusual happens. Additionally, consider linking your phone number to your Steam account. This ensures you'll be notified via text if any suspicious activity occurs. It also comes in handy if you forget your password or run into issues with your email. Another great way to protect your Steam account is by using the Mobile Authenticator app. Available on both iOS and Android, it adds 2-factor Authentication when logging into Steam, making trades, or listing items on the Community Market. It's an easy way to boost your account security and prevent unauthorized access. Image via Steam If you want to secure your account further, enable Steam Guard by verifying your email address and activating the feature in your Steam Settings. Explore the Security and Devices tab, where you can keep track of your authorized devices. If you still have questions or need help, you can always contact Steam Support by creating a ticket for more information. More details may surface regarding the alleged data breach, but it remains largely unverified for now. We'll have to wait and see if Valve provides an official statement in the near future to shed more light on the situation. 7. You may have seen reports of leaks of older text messages that had previously been sent to Steam customers. We have examined the leak sample and have determined this was NOT a breach of Steam systems. We’re still digging into the source of the leak, which is compounded by the fact that any SMS messages are unencrypted in transit, and routed through multiple providers on the way to your phone. The leak consisted of older text messages that included one-time codes that were only valid for 15-minute time frames and the phone numbers they were sent to. The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data. Old text messages cannot be used to breach the security of your Steam account, and whenever a code is used to change your Steam email or password using SMS, you will receive a confirmation via email and/or Steam secure messages. You do not need to change your passwords or phone numbers as a result of this event. It is a good reminder to treat any account security messages that you have not explicitly requested as suspicious. A new character has leaked for Genshin Impact 5.8, and not only may they become the best Hydro support for Skirk teams moving forward, but players may ultimately be able to leave Furina aside for this new unit. 20. Marvel Rivals' next update, dropping on May 15, is adding a new feature called Chrono Shield Cards, and the competitive scene is about to get a whole lot worse because of it. And I have just one question: Why? Chrono Shield Cards function the same way as the already existing Chrono Shield feature, with one major difference that makes them a problem rather than a nice reprieve: You can hold up to 20 at once and use them whenever you like. Screenshot by Destructoid This new mechanic feels incredibly pay-to-win since having these special cards in your inventory means you can literally pay to stay put and rank up. Competitive is meant to be a fierce battleground where players can demonstrate their skills and work hard to move up, so this new system goes entirely against everything it's meant to be. Initially, eight of the Chrono Shield Cards will be available for free by progressing in the event starting on May 15. We don't know what other acquisition methods there will be for this feature down the line, but even if they remain solely free items earned by playing, it still feels like a pay-to-win system since these cards can be spent whenever to block losses. Most items end up in the shop eventually, and since there's room for up to 20 of these passes in your inventory, there will certainly be other methods for obtaining them outside of the event. Regardless of how it works, there's just too much room for players to abuse this system. [Hidden Content] Trolling and throwing are both going to be even more rampant than they already are since there's now a system in place protecting players who do so. The competitive scene is going to vastly change with Chrono Shield Cards in play, and it won't be for the better. Player reactions are, understandably, pretty divided over this choice. Popular Marvel Rivals creators like Eskay, Flats, and Bogur have already shared strong stances against what they see as a pay-to-win system, with Flats saying, "There ain't NO WAY y'all put a way to pay money to not lose points in a COMPETITIVE LOSS???" Some players think this feature could be a good thing, though, especially for those struggling to reach Gold to get the free skin. There have been many complaints about the ranked mode throughout season two, including massive Strategist buffs and Vanguard nerfs to combat some of these issues. "If it only works at Gold and below, maybe this is just NetEase trying to ease the process of getting the ranked reward skin to those struggling with it," one player said on Reddit. [Hidden Content] Even if their intentions are in the right place with this idea, NetEase is missing the mark. Sure, Chrono Shield Cards may genuinely help a few honest, hardworking players, but they will harm the vast majority. Trolls are being encouraged to throw match after match with no consequence thanks to this system, and there's going to be far more people who use it to cause chaos than there are those who use it as intended. I wouldn't be as opposed to Chrono Shield Cards if we were only being given one or two to use, but allowing everyone to store up to 20 is just ridiculous, especially when we already have the Chrono Shield effect that takes place automatically after a few losses. There's just no point to the ranked mode if everyone can freely toss around special cards to rank up. There are certainly many issues with the current competitive scene, like Strategists not earning enough points compared to Duelists, and the match continuing even after a player disconnects. But Chrono Shield Cards aren't the right fix for this situation—they're just another even worse problem that's being thrown into the mix. Coming alongside the battle pass exclusivity changes that brought back OG battle pass skins, this feature announcement has led to quite a bit of controversy among the community. NetEase has been really good at listening to community feedback so far, though, so hopefully they'll hear and address our concerns with this one too. What do you think about Chrono Shield Cards blocking losses in competitive mode? 21. One of the most challenging achievements you can earn in The Precinct is We're Gonna Need a ******* Holding Cell. It requires you to arrest six criminals during one in-game shift, which is especially tricky if you're focusing on parking violations or like to take your time playing. However, despite this seeming very difficult, there are several ways to arrest six criminals in one shift with little to no issues. It may take a while, but once you learn the strategy, it's easy to replicate in the future. Table of contentsHow to get the We're Gonna Need a ******* Holding Cell trophy in The PrecinctHow to find six criminals to arrest in The PrecinctHow to get the We're Gonna Need a ******* Holding Cell trophy in The Precinct Earning the We're Gonna Need a ******* Holding Cell achievement in The Precinct requires finding six criminals, arresting them, and escorting them back to the ACPD station's building. You'll need to book them manually for the arrests to count toward your progress. There are three main ways to obtain this achievement easily: Play your in-game shifts as usual.Play until you unlock custom schedules before creating a 24-hour shift.Play your day beyond your character's usual shift and catch criminals during overtime hours. Of these three options, working overtime until you catch and book six criminals is the easiest way to earn this trophy. The Precinct doesn't automatically stop your day once your shift ends, and there's no energy system preventing you from continuing. Any XP and criminals you book will count toward your shift, even if you work several hours overtime. Screenshot by Destructoid Another option is to play through The Precinct's story until you unlock custom shifts. That way, rather than sticking with whatever Kowalski assigns you, you can make your own schedule, including its location, variant, and duration. Picking a 24-hour shift will give you much more time to find criminals. You can reduce this to 12 or 16 if you're pressed for time and are confident you can arrest six people in this time, but 24 is an equally safe bet. You can also use these strategies to earn 10,000 XP in a single shift if you're struggling with multiple achievements. How to find six criminals to arrest in The Precinct From here, your strategy will partially depend on personal preference. If you're proficient in tackling vehicular crimes like motor vehicle theft or DUIs, you can focus on these for your six bookings. Otherwise, you can look around for street crime like drug dealing, burglary, and armed assaults. The only downside to this is the chance of armed NPCs eliminating you and slowing your progress. Fortunately, this doesn't reset your shift or end it, so you can continue as normal until you find your six criminals. Once you find six criminals, ******* them, and bring them to the ACPD Precinct, you'll unlock the We're Gonna Need a ******* Holding Cell trophy and get a bunch of XP along the way. If you're interested in pursuing more achievements, be sure to check out our complete list of rare car locations in The Precinct.
