  1. The Ukrainian government-run Center for Countering Disinformation have released a warning about a new free-to-play shooter, Squad 22: ZOV, which they say is a blaring propaganda instrument for the Russian military that "mythologises" the country's invasion and bombardment of Ukraine since 2022. The accusation actually dates back to February this year, but it has resurfaced and picked up pace online now that Squad 22 is actually on ***** via Steam. Valve have yet to comment. 2. Nearly two years since their release, I have finally regretted never pulling for one broken Genshin Impact character, and I now fear that it may be too late to add them to my roster. The action RPG by HoYoverse is now nearing the end of Version 5.6, an important update that brought forth a relevant Archon Quest that further developed the story of Mondstadt and some of its governing powers. The patch also added Escoffier to Genshin Impact, kicking off the long-rumored Cryo meta with a powerful sub-DPS who has proven to be useful against some of the new bosses. View the full article
  3. A Genshin Impact player shared a screenshot showing how they got very lucky with the Daily Commissions spawns. Even though Genshin Impact’s main source of revenue comes from players pulling on the Limited Character Banner using Primogems, the game also offers various ways to earn the premium currency for free. 4. The Magic: The Gathering card Arwen, Mortal Queen is ramping up in value. This Lord of the Rings mythic rare was pretty darn cheap 10 days ago, costing only $2.20 for the basic version by MTG Goldfish's reckoning. But in that time its price has more than doubled, and a copy now goes for $5.50. Read the rest of the story... 5. The heat of the sun burning into your skin, the Sandworms keen to eat you at a moment's notice, and the constant political tension are just three reasons why I'd never personally go to Arrakis. If you're keen to see whether you could survive the torturous sands of this brilliant sci-fi world, the tabletop RPG Dune: Adventures in the Imperium is a great experience. And right now you can get 17 RPG books from the game at a massive discount, thanks to Fanatical's latest bundle. Read the rest of the story... 9. The future of Everywhere, the ambitious “platform that offers a world of endless possibilities”, is now in doubt following the inclusion of its creation suite in MindsEye. Build a Rocket Boy, the Edinburgh-based studio led by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, revealed the first details on Everywhere back in 2023, promising a new platform in which players can create their own combat and racing experiences and share them online with other players. Set in Utropia, the game makes use of a detailed creation suite called Arcadia, where players can use in-game tools make their own creations, from small individual assets to entire action stages with programmable enemy AI. 10. Season 4 of Call of Duty: Warzone is set to implement some big changes to the free-to-play Battle Royale title, including one that will see players enter the Gulag with a single Armor Plate equipped. Prior to the launch of Call of Duty: WarzoneSeason 4, all players entered and fought in the Gulag with no armor, but developer Raven Software says it is attempting to reduce "extreme time-to-kill cases" with the new change. 11. Age of Empires 2 has a new expansion, Tempest Rising is the effective return of classic Command and Conquer, and we've recently gotten Commandos Origins. I don't mean to get overexcited, but it's starting to feel like old-school RTS games are back. What's next? A sequel to Total Annihilation? A remake of War Wind? Z 3? One can dream. But in the meantime, another iconic medieval strategy series is making a bold return. Originally released in 2002, the AoE-style Stronghold Crusader is getting a top-to-bottom remaster, complete with overhauled visuals and new campaigns. The full game isn't here for a couple of months, but you can still play it right now. Read the rest of the story... 15. The last stage of Helldivers 2's battle for Super Earth is coming down to the wire, as we all expected, wth just two of the planet's seven mega cities still holding out against The Illuminate. 16. Put me in the camp of point and click aficionados who fiercely believe that 1993's Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers is one of the best adventure games to ever touch a PC. First in a trilogy of thriller mysteries, it featured writing that was a cut above Sierra On-Line's usual fare, puzzles that veered on the side of sensible investigations rather than moon logic, and a glorious bastard of a Cajun protagonist. The Kathy Rain series owes much to Gabriel Knight. Swap the '90s-era New Orleans author for a '90s-era biker chick/journalism student, replace the voodoo killings with a conspiracy involving the death of a grandparent, and you have the first Kathy Rain, which was released in 2016 and boasted the generic-but-still-memorable tagline: "A Detective is Born". But despite receiving fair praise from John back in the day, Kathy's first outing had a murky plot about cults, trauma, small town disappearances, and Elder Gods that was only made understandable via a spruced up Director's Cut in 2021. Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer, I'm happy to report, needs no such re-release, though anyone who hasn't completed the first game is bound to still be a little confused. Read more View the full article
  17. A voice actor who featured in Persona 4 has let slip that a remake of the school days JRPG is in the works, mostly because he's frustrated the developers don't want him back to perform as his original character. Yuri Lowenthal, who played clumsy bicycle crasher Yosuke in the original 2008 game, expressed some revealing annoyance with developers Atlus in a post on social media that has since been deleted. 19. Gearbox boss ****** Pitchford has once again spoken out about the controversy he recently stirred up over the price point for Borderlands 4. In late May, Pitchford chimed in on the growing discussion about video game prices jumping by a Hamilton or two. This is a course the industry has been on for a few years now, but it got kicked into higher gear with Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal and the announcement that some games would have an $80 price tag. One fan looking forward to the upcoming Borderlands 4 directed a tweet directly at Pitchford, stating, “******, this game better not be 80 dollars.” View the full article
