  5. With all the indie titles being released on Steam every week, it can be hard to make your game stand out. Italian developer Fix-a-Bug accidentally gave its 2D dungeon crawler a big prelaunch popularity boost in Japan by accidentally naming the game “Shitty Dungeon” in Japanese. Although the game’s English title is The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles, its Japanese language Steam Store page ended up displaying the title as Kuso Danjon. This means “Shitty Dungeon” or “Crap Dungeon,” if you want to be slightly more polite. In a recent interview with Game*Spark spotted by Automaton, developer Paolo Nicoletti explained that the ‘shitty dungeon incident’ occurred back in August this year, when the team was releasing a demo version of the game and had yet to get a professional Japanese translation. When they realized their mistake, Nicoletti says, "Everyone was cracking up, and honestly, I also laughed a lot about it. It was completely unintentional.” However the mishap did not flush the rogue-lite dungeon crawler down the toilet, rather, “It ended up bringing the game a lot of attention and the number of Wishlists soared." Nicoletti said the name change was “the best accidental marketing” the developer could have hoped for. According to an earlier report by Automaton Japan, the Japanese language Steam page for The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles was named Shitty Dungeon back on August 8. By August 13, Japanese speaking users had begun discussing the topic on X and had reported it on the official Discord server. It’s still not clear how or why this mistranslation happened, but it’s worth noting that the pre-release Japanese language demo of the game had some awkward machine translations when it was picked for Tokyo Game Show’s ‘Selected Indie 80’ in September. The developers announced that these issues would be fixed in the full release, and it appears the ‘shitty dungeon incident’ occurred around this time. This amusing mistake made the indie game stand out from the crowd of new Steam releases. It soon became a topic of discussion on Japanese social media. According to Nicoletti, this contributed to an increase in Wishlist numbers for the then-unreleased game. After all, a title that seems to proudly proclaim it's bad can make people curious as to whether that’s really the case. However, the quality of the game did not stink after all, and The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles currently has a 'Mostly Positive' rating on Steam. Reviewers have been praising its funny dialogue, satisfying gameplay loop and the overall care put into its development. Japanese speaking commenters on X have also praised the demo and the full game for being surprisingly better than its initial Japanese title suggested. “Humor that lives up to the name,” and “great, detailed pixel art,” are among the plaudits given to the indie title. One Japanese language review on Steam noted that, “Despite the title Shitty Dungeon making me think it was a joke, it is actually quite well made.” The reviewer said that because they'd made a blind buy, “It wasn’t quite what I expected but the combat system is pretty interesting.” They also praised the game’s balance between humorous dialogue and tense combat. Although good localizations are preferable, translation errors have produced some weirdly memorable dialogue over the years. If it hadn’t been for mistranslation, such lines would never have become so iconic. Lines like Zero Wing’s “All your base are belong to us,” and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night’s “What is a man? A ********** little pile of secrets,” have endured beyond their source games to become well-known memes. 7. There's nothing quite like involuntarily losing all the gear you have grinded for in a video game, and ARC Raiders is looking to change things up. Account and inventory wipes are commonplace in extraction shooters where players can hoard gear to become all-powerful, so they have been viewed as a necessity up until now. But for Embark Studios, the devs behind ARC Raiders, a new method is afoot. Here's everything there is to know about wipes in ARC Raiders and the special feature called Expedition Projects. Table of contentsDoes ARC Raiders have wipes?ARC Raiders - What is an Expedition Project?ARC Raiders Expedition Project scheduleARC Raiders Expedition Project rewardsDoes ARC Raiders have wipes? Image via Embark Studios Yes, ARC Raiders has something like a "wipe," but it's not a mandatory one forced upon all players. Instead, the game uses a system called Expedition Projects that make it optional. "Just to make it clear, we absolutely see the benefits a global wipe provides," ARC Raiders design director Virgil Watkins explained. "Veteran players can experience the game fresh, the economy is reset to the baseline, and all players have about the same level of capabilities. At least for a little while." This is because, according to Embark, mandatory wipes don't "respect the investment of those players who do not have as much time to play overall," so the studio is trying to strike a balance. ARC Raiders - What is an Expedition Project? When you reach level 20, you unlock the ability to "reset" your character's progress similarly to the Prestige system in Call of Duty, but with the flavor of "wipes" like in other extraction shooters such as Escape From Tarkov. If you don't want to do this, you don't have to. Here's a quick outline of what you keep and what you lose when your Raider departs on an Expedition: This is what is resetThis is what is keptStash Upgrade Progress Inventory items Blueprints Coins Player level Skill Points Raider Den Workshop QuestsUnlocked maps Unlocked Workshop Stations Codex entries Raider Tokens Cred Raider Decks progress Active leaderboards Trials Cosmetics Personal event progress Bonus Skill Points earned from Expeditions Bonus Stash Slots earned form Expeditions "The Expedition Project will operate on a repeating cycle of roughly eight weeks," Embark explained. "During the course of these eight weeks, players can contribute toward and make progress on their Expedition Project, which will overall be a somewhat large time investment. At the start of the eighth week, the ability to finalize the project will become available and will remain available for that entire week. If a player has fulfilled all of the necessary stages of the project, they will be able to commit to completing the Expedition during this *******." Any Project not completed in the time ******* will have its progress moved to the next time phase window. 15. Arc Raiders has only been out a day, but it has already surpassed a Steam concurrent peak player count of 264,673, making it one of the biggest extraction shooters ever on Valve's platform. Given Arc Raiders ended its recent 'Server Slam' playtest with big player numbers on Steam, developer Embark Studio was likely braced for a bumper launch day. Which is just as well, as it's currently one of the biggest games on Steam; just Battlefield 6, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, PUBG, and viral hit Escape from Duckov clocked up ******* 24-hour peaks. This means more people played Arc Raiders on Steam in the last 24-hours than even free-to-play titles like Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals. The true number of players Arc Raiders has will of course be ******* than its Steam count, as it also launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Neither Sony nor Microsoft make player numbers public. It's also worth bearing in mind that Arc Raiders launched mid-week, so the expectation is for its player number to grow as the game heads into its first weekend. For now, we can say the launch is truly impressive on Steam, where Arc Raiders has a 'very positive' user review rating after over 8,800 reviews. It'll be interesting to see how Arc Raiders fares when perhaps one of its biggest competitors, Escape From Tarkov, debuts on Steam next month. Another key competitor could be Marathon. Arc Raiders' design director previously said it was fortuitous timing to have Bungie's extraction shooter launch a playtest around the same time as its own, calling it "a great A/B test for us." Earlier this week, Embark insisted it wasn't worried about Arc Raiders coming out between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: ****** Ops 7, insisting: "we believe the game can launch there." “I know. The insanity,” CEO Patrick Soderlund told The Game Business. “People may look at that [Arc Raiders' release date] and say, ‘What the hell are they doing?’ We have spent a lot of time looking at this from multiple angles and you know, for right or wrong, we believe that the game can launch there. This is the start of a long journey. It needs to start somewhere.” Vikki Blake is a reporter for IGN, as well as a critic, columnist, and consultant with 15+ years experience working with some of the world's biggest gaming sites and publications. 16. We have good news for patient Silent Hill fans who have been waiting for a chance to play Silent Hill 2 Remake on an Xbox console — a new rating listing has popped up on the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). While the ESRB already had the horror game listed, of course, it previously only provided a rating for the game on PlayStation 5 and PC, giving a 17+ rating on account of its blood, gore, ******* themes, strong language, and violence. And now, a similar rating has been added to the site specifically for the "Xbox Series" platform. It's unlikely to be a surprise to most — we already knew that the remake of the horror game was a year-long console exclusive for PS5, and that expired last month — but it's good news nonetheless given Konami itself had been a little coy about when we may see the port release on Xbox Series consoles (and silent completely on the highly anticipated Born From a Wish DLC). Silent Hill 2 Remake has sold 2.5 million worldwide, which pushes sales of the franchise overall to 10 million. IGN's Silent Hill 2 Remake review returned an 8/10. We said: "Silent Hill 2 is a great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror." Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto recently opened up on why Konami revealed three new Silent Hill games after a full decade of silence, saying the publisher was keen to stress to old fans and new that it was "serious" about resurrecting the flailing horror series. Of all the projects revealed since that 2022 showcase — Silent Hill: The Short Message, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and media projects Silent Hill: Ascension and the upcoming movie, Return to Silent Hill — the majority have been received well by critics, fans, and new players alike, suggesting it was a gamble worth taking for the Japanese publisher. 23. Mushrooms and Pillows are two necessary components in ARC Raiders that are required to complete Scrappy's final upgrade. Both these items are available at different locations on the map, but roaming around aimlessly is going to make your life difficult. You'll find guaranteed spots for both Pillows and Mushrooms, and this guide will provide you with all the necessary information. Table of contentsHow to get Mushrooms in ARC RaidersHow to find Comfortable Pillows in ARC RaidersHow to use Pillows and Mushrooms to upgrade ARC RaidersHow to get Mushrooms in ARC Raiders Mushrooms are pretty elusive items that are easy to miss. Unlike Lemons, Mushrooms typically spawn on the surface of other items. I have also found them on tree trunks in specific locations. You can find them in the Dam Battlegrounds map. Remix by Destructoid via Embark Head into the Hydroponic Dome complex, and you should find some in the stagnant water. Alternatively, the mushroom spawn can happen right outside the Dome. They will always alter the two positions in their spawn. I have also marked two additional locations. You'll find fallen tree trunks at those locations, and the Mushrooms will spawn on them. These are the best spots to find the required amount of Mushrooms. How to find Comfortable Pillows in ARC Raiders While it's easier to find Pillows in ARC Raiders, the process can be grindy. You'll have to scout the residential areas and buildings in different locations. I found success in Buried City, but you can find it from any house building on any map. You just have to be lucky. How to use Pillows and Mushrooms to upgrade ARC Raiders You'll need 12 Mushrooms and three Very Comfortable Pillows to get the final upgrade for Scrappy. However, you'll also need Apricots (also required for an earlier upgrade for Scrappy). Once you have 12 Apricots and the rest of the resources, you can then use them to train and upgrade Scrappy to level five.
