  10. Square Enix just released the entire Kingdom Hearts series on Steam after years of console exclusivity for the franchise. It’s available at a discount right now, too. The Kingdom Hearts series is overdue for a PC port. The series was once PlayStation exclusive, at least for its primary entries, but it’s expanded to the other major consoles in recent years. 16. Earlier this year, Xbox announced that four of their games would be coming to Nintendo and Sony consoles in 2024. One of those games was the multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves, which already boasts an incredibly large player base since it released back in 2018. The game was re-released on April 30 for the PlayStation 5, and since then has proven to be a big hit with that console’s player base as well. The PlayStation Blog posted the most downloaded titles of May 2024, and at the top of both the U.S./Canada and EU charts for PS5 games was Sea of Thieves. An impressive feat, considering it beat out some massively popular titles like Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Helldivers 2. View the full article
  17. [/url] Much of the time, the game looks a lot like Civilization, like in this city view. [credit: Microsoft ] We haven't written much about Ara: History Untold, a new historical turn-based strategy PC game that's been in the works for a few years now. Part of that's because its publisher, Xbox Game Studios, hasn't put much fanfare behind it; it wasn't even mentioned in Microsoft's not-E3 extravaganza last week. But perhaps both we and Microsoft should be putting more of a spotlight on it, given that it now has a release date: September 24, 2024. The game will be released on Steam and Xbox Game Pass for PC simultaneously. The date was announced during an Official Xbox Podcast interview (and accompanying blog post) with Marc Meyer, president of Oxide Games, the studio developing Ara. The podcast covered more than just the release date, though, with Meyer offering up some new gameplay details—particularly about how multiplayer will work. 18. After 12 years at the company, Warcraft general manager and SVP John Hight is departing the company for an unknown new endeavor. In a post on Twitter/X today, Hight announced his departure, thanking the community for its support: After 12 incredible years at Blizzard, I’ve decided to step away & start a new quest. It was a tough decision, but I feel like now is as good a time as any: Warcraft is in an amazing position as the universe turns 30. I’ve been so honored to serve all of the heroes of Azeroth. — John Hight (@JHight_Gamer) June 13, 2024 Hight joined Blizzard in 2011 as executive producer and VP on World of Warcraft, before being promoted to Warcraft GM in 2021. During his tenure, he oversaw the launches of Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands, and Dragonflight. He also was involved in the releases of both Hearthstone and Warcraft Rumble, and the 2016 Warcraft film. Prior to his time at Blizzard, Hight held leadership roles at EA, Atari, and Sony working on **** of War 3. We chatted with Hight about the Warcraft franchise just a few months ago at the Game Developers Conference. There, Hight expressed hesitation at the idea of Blizzard going all-in on the film business in the way that other game studios were, and confidence that World of Warcraft specifically would continue to evolve "for another 20 years" as long as it was able to keep adapting. He also explained in detail what Blizzard was and was NOT doing with AI technology. And we attended his GDC talk about how Blizzard rebuilt its relationship with players after major player dips throughout the Shadowlands expansion. IGN has reached out to Blizzard to confirm who will be taking over Hight's roll as Warcraft general manager. Rebekah Valentine is a senior reporter for IGN. Got a story tip? 19. WIth over 50 party games split between developer Jackbox Games' 10 different Jackbox Party Packs, players have increasingly requested a more unified way to switch between their Jackbox games. If these games are in different packs, players often need to remember which pack a game is in, close their current pack, and launch the next one. Now, after years of player requests, Jackbox Games is finally developing a way to see all of its games in one place. Today in a post on its website, Jackbox Games announced the Jackbox Megapicker, a game library that lets players view, sort, and launch their games from different Party Packs in one location. "With over 50 games, more and more you are saying that it takes a lot of effort to switch between packs to find all of the different games you want to play," the post reads. "Enter The Jackbox Megapicker: a free product exclusive to Steam, where you can view your game library, sort and filter the games you love, and quickly launch an evening of fun." The Jackbox Megapicker is headed to Steam as an exclusive this July. Jackbox Games mentioned that more details will be revealed on its website and in an upcoming Reddit AMA. The team also encouraged players to request features for the Jackbox Megapicker via social media. Years after the first Party Pack was released in 2014, Jackbox Games saw a spike in popularity after its party games became a social distancing staple in 2020. Jackbox's next Party Pack is Jackbox: Naughty Pack, its first ******-focused Party Pack (despite most people's use of... already naughty answers in text-based games like Quiplash) that it announced at ID@Xbox in April. While it doesn't yet have a release date, it's due out this year. Amelia Zollner is a freelance writer at IGN who loves all things indie and Nintendo.
