  1. While Helldivers 2's latest Major Order is proving a bit of a tough one, especially compared to some of the other stuff that the forces of Super Earth have been tasked with recently, folks are still finding ways to keep their sprits up. In a couple of cases the soultion to boosting morale looks to have been a simple one - try some Factory Strider parkour. Yup, forget about trying to convince all of your casual pals that they need to pitch in and help out with defense of a bunch of planets, the clever - if as risky as you'd expect - tactic of landing on the big Automaton not quite-AT-ATs looks to getting more and more popular. To be fair, it looks a bit more fun than pummeling these tough foes with artillery from ground level. A couple of different players have shared clips of them essentially goofing off atop Factory Striders to the game's subreddit recently, but the one I think really shows the potential of Factory Strider parkour as something that could be included as an event if the Terminids can ever be held off long enough to organise some kind of Helldiver Olympics comes from user CrzyDonkey. 2. Dwarf Fortress is one of the deepest and most intricate simulations of a virtual world in gaming history. It feels boundless, not just in the sheer size of its geography, but in the organic rise and falls of its simulated civilizations and eclectic NPCs. RimWorld meanwhile ******** the definitive colony simulator. Explore, ******, dig, and build to convert far-off planets into something that feels like home. Drawing inspiration from both these games, a new RPG, colony, and survival game is coming soon to Steam, and there's a giant playtest you can try right now. Read the rest of the story... 3. From Baldur's Gate 3 to Diablo 4 and Lethal Company, 2023 was a banner year for the best co-op games on PC. Among all the fantastic options, however, Remnant 2 is the clear winner for me. The soulslike-infused third-person shooter built on the underrated first game, delivering a magnificent sequel packed with memorable encounters and a hoard of loot. Now, the launch of new Remnant 2 DLC The Forgotten Kingdom has seen its player count more than double again on Steam, and a hefty discount means you can join the action for cheap. 5. If you want to get into safes and unlock doors that are tougher than the rest in Fallout 76, then you’ll need to improve your lockpicking skill. Although lockpicking itself is the same, improving this skill works a little differently. All lockpicking perk cards in Fallout 76Like the other skills in Fallout 76, you’ll need to find lockpicking perk cards. Contrary to what you may expect, the lockpicking perk cards all only have one rank, meaning you can’t equip duplicates of the same type and you can’t combine them to improve them. This means you’ll have to find all three lockpicking perk cards if you want to improve this skill, although if you level up your Perception enough, you’ll be able to equip all three for the best lockpicking ability. Here are all the lockpick perk cards in Fallout 76:Perk CardEffectUnlock levelPicklockGain +1 lockpicking skill, and the lockpicking “sweet spot” is 10% larger.5Expert PicklockGain +1...View the full article
  6. Lords of the Fallen developer HexWorks has delivered one final major update, rounding out the game’s months-long roadmap of new content and patches. Available today, the 1.5 Master of Fate update is the culmination of over 30 patches released since the game’s launch last October. Master of Fate’s biggest feature is the Advanced Game Modifier System, a randomiser that gives players the power to balance and tweak several core aspects of the game. Read more View the full article
  7. It probably won't surprise you that, despite the numbers, Sonic 3 is borrowing a lot from Sonic Adventure 2, but I really am wondering what will happen to Maria. Can't believe I have to write this, but spoilers ahead for Sonic Adventure 2 and potentially Sonic 3 I guess? Sonic fans around the world jumped for joy when the very short first teaser was released for Sonic 3, as it featured an orchestral rendition of Live and Learn, the main theme from Sonic Adventure 2. Fans have been desperate for some Adventure-era recognition, and obviously with Shadow's introduction it was always going to borrow from it somewhat. As shared in a new interview with GamesRadar, Sonic 3 producer and Knuckles showrunner Toby Ascher spoke a bit about the upcoming film, and how it's drawing upon Sonic Adventure 2. 8. Skarner’s rework has been out for three weeks in League of Legends, but players are only now starting to appreciate his new version. A discussion about the rework was sparked by a Reddit user on April 23, with players claiming how much fun the new Skarner version is to play. They acknowledge how the champion is a bit too strong in the meta following League Patch 14.8 buffs, though, it doesn’t take away the fun they’re having with him. View the full article
  9. Elite Dangerous developer Frontier has announced a significant change to the near decade-old space sim: the ***** of ships for real money. In a post on the Elite Dangerous website, Frontier said it will sell three months of early access to the Python Mk II ship from May 7 for 16,250 ARX, the game’s premium virtual currency. 16,800 ARX costs $12.99 from the store. Owners of the Odyssey expansion can buy the ship from August 7 for credits, Elite's non-premium virtual currency. Those who do not own Odyssey can only access ship variants from the store for ARX. Frontier is also selling Pre-Built Ship packages, which include ships that have been upgraded from their base models. “We envision these Pre-built Ships to be a quicker way for newer players to get involved in the areas they have the most interest in, or for our existing players who are considering a new career path in game, but do not have time to devote to a new build from scratch,” Frontier said. A Pre-Built Ship package includes instant-access to a pre-fitted ship, a ship kit, and a paintjob — essentially skipping the grind associated with upgrading ships. It’s safe to say this announcement has infuriated veteran players of Elite Dangerous, some of whom have accused Frontier of going down the Star Citizen route in its bid to generate revenue from the long-running space game. While players will continue to be able to earn ARX in-game by playing Elite Dangerous daily, or by contributing to events in-game, the fact you can buy the currency with real-world money and spend it on early access to new ships has sparked pay-to-win accusations. “And with a single article about literal p2w ships you have now officially lost all trust,” said redditor Xay_DE. “It's ridiculous enough that you have to pay IRL money to do any sort of ship customization in a game you have to pay money for, but adding paid-for ships, once again in a game you have to pay for, is unacceptable,” said Endulos. “And with a single article about literal p2w ships you have now officially lost all trust. Some players are now pointing to a 2019 statement in which Frontier said “ARX can only be used to buy cosmetic Game Extras and will not be used to introduce and acquire pay-to-win purchases.” It seems likely that Frontier would dispute the pay-to-win accusations, pointing to the fact ARX can be obtained through gameplay, as so many developers of games with similar systems often do. Countering this, some players are insisting any advantage, including time saved, should be considered pay-to-win. Frontier has struggled in recent years after a string of games ******* to hit sales projections. In November, Frontier issued a trading update following poor launch sales of its real-time strategy game Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin. The studio has also suffered a round of layoffs. Earlier in April, Frontier sold the publishing rights to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to Atari for $7 million, bringing in much-needed cash. Countering the ***** and gloom, Frontier said sales of its games since January have been “in-line with expectations”, with Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo leading the charge. The recent console release of Planet Zoo saw “strong player engagement”, with total sales up to and including the day of release greater than the sales achieved by Planet Coaster when that game came out on consoles in November 2020. In a previous update, Frontier said it was refocusing on creative management simulation games (CMS). With this in mind, Frontier has confirmed three future CMS games, with one releasing in each of the next three financial years. Alongside this it will continue to develop and support its existing portfolio of games, including Elite Dangerous, F1 Manager, and Realms of Ruin. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. 10. In Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition, it's generally considered polite to check in with the DM before you build a character around summoning creatures—this is because the rules system doesn't exactly handle large swarms of enemies well, needing you to laboriously roll through each of your minion's turns one by one. Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't have a DM, however, so you can do whatever the ***** you want—as Real-Business6593 on the game's subreddit has... Read more.View the full article

  13. If you’re an avid League of Legends player, chances are you’ve encountered Sylas’ wonky interactions with other champion’s ultimate abilities, where they don’t work as intended. Riot is working on fixing these “inconsistencies,” but they might take longer than you think. Unlike other champions, Sylas’ ultimate ability, *******, relies heavily on securing enemies’ ultimates, making the Demacian Mageseeker a great ****** counter-pick to many League of Legends champions. 14. Having to choose to pull for Arlecchino or Lyney in Genshin Impact 4.6’s banners can be a difficult task, especially considering how similar the characters are in some aspects and whether or not they will fit some team comps. Arlecchino is finally becoming a playable character after her debut as an NPC during the Fontaine storyline – in fact, she is the only new character in Genshin Impact 4.6. Nevertheless, the patch is bringing in a load of content beyond her release as a playable unit. This includes a new area to the south of the Fontaine region. View the full article

  17. Hello there, EA Sports FC 24 lovers. I know it's been a little while and you've just started getting some nice Team of the Season Ultimate Team upgrades to collect, but a fresh title update's also just rocked up for the game. Sadly, it's without any freaky red and blue non-humans to demo changes, and it stops you from, er, avoiding unemployment. Yes, you heard me. Stop trying to pack Kai Havertz for a minute, this a serious one for folks who love playing manager mode, and can't resist keeping the threat of being let go switched on, even though all of their signings always turn out to be terrible and their tactics haven't evolved since 2004. As detailed in the notes for EA FC 24's title update 13, one of the fixes it enacts stops Career Mode managers casually frauding their way back into jobs. Basically, what was previously happening was that sometimes, when your club decided to chuck you out of the window for spending $100 million on a goalie and then playing him as a number 10 and terminated your contract, "the next job offer [you got] could have incorrectly been for the same club". 19. Quentin Tarantino recently announced he's no longer making The Movie Critic as his final film, but some details about it have now come to light. Last week, Tarantino put The Movie Critic on the chopping block after previously stating it would be his 10th and final film. Details about the film are slim, though it had been reported that Brad Pitt would return as Cliff Booth from the 2018 Tarantino-directed Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it was unclear in what capacity. Now, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, has offered some more details on what the film might have been like, painting a clearer picture as to how Pitt's character would have been involved. According to sources familiar with the project that spoke with THR, The Movie Critic would have been somewhat of a meta, crossover kind of film that would have placed Tarantino's films within the 70s, as if they had been made then, allowing the director to bring back some of the big names he's worked with over the years to reprise their characters in "movie within a movie" moments. This potentially would have had the actors playing fictional versions of themselves as the actors who played those characters. Read more View the full article

  21. Manor Lords‘ price has been a mystery for quite some time, but the game’s publisher, Hooded Horse, shared information that should reassure fans worried about their wallets. In a Reddit thread on April 23, the CEO of Hooded Horse, Tim, revealed why Manor Lords‘ prices aren’t public, and it has to do with regional pricing. Tim said Manor Lords has regional prices, just like all the other games on Steam, and declaring the price in advance can lead to misunderstandings. “People will be concluding the game is unaffordable in their region when at launch they will have pricing that will work for them,” he said. 25. Netflix's One Piece is shaking things up a touch, as one of its showrunners switches roles to make way for a writer from Disney Plus' Percy Jackson show. It's a good time to be Joe Tracz. Having served as a writer for a couple of episodes on the generally well received Percy Jackson show, as reported by Variety, he's now making his way over to Netflix to head up One Piece as co-showrunner alongside Matt Owens. He'll be taking the place of Steven Maeda, who developed the first season alongside Owens, and will now be shifting into an executive producer role. "Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take One Piece to new heights," Owens said in a statement. "We're incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger!" Tracz himself was, unsurprisingly, enthusiastic about joining the show, saying, "I've been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come ******* or more beloved than One Piece. I'm a huge fan of Oda-san's incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in season one. So it's a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant season two." Read more View the full article
