The DeathAdder is one of the longest-running mouse designs in gaming mouse history, with its first iteration now approaching 20 years old. Its comfortable, ergonomic shape has simply stood the test of time. The Razer DeathAdder V3 is the latest version, and it keeps the design simple, with a basic tally of five buttons and a lightweight build, making it an ideal wired option for esports and more. This Razer mouse's pricier, wireless sibling, the DeathAdder V3 Pro is currently our premium choice for the best gaming mouse, so the simpler V3 has plenty to live up to. As a VR gaming enthusiast, I love seeing the next big breakthroughs approaching on the horizon. While there is an argument to be made that the Pimax Crystal Super headset is the most imminent advancement in virtual reality headsets, Disney's new Holotile treadmill is by far a more broadly appealing advancement. I'm concerned, however, that it may never be suitable for a commercial release, at least not in its current form. While the best VR headsets are always looking to move the hobby forward, it's the Holotile that presents the most exciting potential advancement at this moment in time. Disney has shown off its 360-degree floor treadmill a few times now, but it recently allowed the first non-Disney employee to test it out, tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known better as MKBHD. Competition in the 14-inch gaming laptop space is fierce right now, and the HP Omen Transcend 14 is hoping to tempt you its way with one of the latest Intel Core Ultra CPUs, as well as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU for gaming. It does emerge as a decent device, but it sadly also trips up in several areas that don't trouble the competition. I've been using the Omen Transcend 14 for the past several weeks, and it's sadly fallen short of its expectations. There certainly is room for this system to find its way to our best gaming laptop list, but only if it gets a significant price cut that reflects its relative shortcomings. Stock of Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPUs being supplied to graphics card manufacturers has apparently dried up in recent weeks, leading to speculation that there could be a wind down in manufacturing already, ahead of the future RTX 5000 series launch. While the RTX 4060 Ti isn't a card that holds a place on our best graphics card guide, it's one of Nvidia's more popular and affordable GPUs, and one that we'd expect to see still available to buy for many, many months to come. However, this new report hints at a different turn of events. Read the rest of the story... Back in 2019, FromSoftware, creators of the wildly successful action RPG games Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and Armored Core 6, put out Sekiro: Shadows **** Twice. A gruelling, historical take on the sort of formula established in its Souls series, Sekiro casts players as a defined character - a ninja called The Wolf - and explores the bloodsoaked landscape of late 16th century, Warring States era Japan through a revenge tale that includes, naturally, plenty of memorably tense boss fights. It's also cheap to pick up a copy right now as Sekiro is currently discounted by 50% on Steam. Read the rest of the story... Ubisoft and Microsoft appear to be tag-teaming a legal crackdown on people who try to pass off fake versions of Minecraft and *********'s Creed official merchandise as the real thing. In a complaint filed on April 19, 2023 in the Illinois Northern District Court, Ubisoft alleges that a number of individuals, corporations, and other companies have been selling unlicensed and counterfeit *********'s Creed merchandise via a number of different storefronts including iOffer, Wish, Amazon, and the sellers' own storefronts. Per the complaint, Ubisoft says these items are "inferior limitations" that nonetheless use design elements and *********'s Creed trademarks to deceive consumers into thinking the merchandise is genuine. Ubisoft alleges the sellers are gaming search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure their listings are at the top of relevant search results, misdirecting consumers away from legitimate products. Additionally, Ubisoft claims the counterfeiters have evaded past attempts to take actions against them by registering new seller accounts under new aliases, maintaining numerous off-shore bank accounts, moving website hosting to servers outside the ******* States, and shipping products in small quantities to avoid detection by U.S. Customs. While Ubisoft provided a list of sellers it is pursuing to the court, the list is under seal and unavailable at the time of the filing. Just a few days later, Microsoft filed a similar suit in the same court, in this case referring to Minecraft merchandise counterfeits on storefronts such as Amazon, Walmart, and eCRATER. It's not confirmed whether or not the complaint is against the same sellers, as Microsoft too has a sealed Schedule A listing the defendants, but given the nature of the complaint, the court, the timing, and the very existance of a sealed list, it seems likely. Even the relief Microsoft is asking for in this case is similar. But even Microsoft admits it doesn't fully know who all the counterfeiters are, which may be why it and Ubisoft have struggled to stamp out the counterfeit operations prior to now. Ubisoft speculates in its complaint that the sellers are primarily based in China or in other foreign countries, and that the groups and individuals seem to coordinate with one another in chatrooms to share tactics, evade detection, and avoid legal action. But that seems to be the extent of its knowledge. "Tactics used by Defendants to conceal their identities and the full scope of their operation make it virtually impossible for Microsoft to learn Defendants’ true identities and the exact interworking of their counterfeit network," Microsoft's complaint reads. "If Defendants provide additional credible information regarding their identities, Microsoft will take appropriate steps to amend the Complaint." So why, then, are Ubisoft and Microsoft hiding the list of people they're suing from the public eye? In Microsoft's motion to seal, it points out that it wants to keep the defendants from learning they're being sued until a temporary restraining order can be issued. Otherwise, Microsoft claims, the sellers will be able to wiggle out of legal consequences once again. "If Defendants were to learn of these proceedings prematurely, the likely result would be the destruction of relevant documentary evidence and the hiding or transferring of assets to foreign jurisdictions, thus frustrating the purpose of the underlying litigation and this Court’s power to grant relief," Microsoft says. "Once the temporary restraining order has been served on the relevant parties and the requested actions are taken, Plaintiff will move to unseal these documents." The dual lawsuits represent an interesting tag-team effort to curb counterfeit video game merchandise being sold as the real thing across major online storefronts. It's an understandable one, too - having browsed both Amazon and Wish for similar items before, it's often very difficult to tell from listings what items are official and which ones are not. Generally, it's better to get them from official storefronts (Ubisoft or Microsoft's own, for instance, or storefronts that don't allow individual resellers), but if you're deal-hunting, that's not always the best option. For now, collectors will just have to wait and see as to whether Ubisoft and Xbox's gambit here will actually make a dent in the flood of fake statuettes and branded gaming items on the market, or whether a long history of seller evasion will continue to prevail. Image: Bandai Namco Between Dune, Fallout, and **** Max, it’s a good year for stories with lots of sand and little water. Now, you can add Sand Land — an adaptation of the late Akira Toriyama’s manga of the same name — to that list. The difference here is that Sand Land comes in two new flavors. There’s an anime streaming on Hulu (or Disney Plus if you’re outside the US) and a video game that turns the story into an open-world RPG. Both follow a similar plot, have the same characters, and even look nearly identical. Which means that if you’re looking to jump into this postapocalyptic wasteland, you have a choice to make — and it turns out, the animated series is a much tighter, more exciting adaptation. The first thing you should know is that, whichever... Continue reading… View the full article
