  1. Fortnite leaks are all over the place this morning, and while we expected a lot of Star Wars content, we were not expecting new My Hero Academia skins to appear, let alone three of the biggest villains in the series. As part of today’s leaks, files have been found for the villains Dabi, Tomura Shigaraki, and Himiko Toga, alongside a series of recognizable pickaxes and back blings from the show. For the eagle-eyed fans, you might also be able to see a small Nomu back bling, which is the same Nomu All Might faced off against in the first few episodes of the anime, just on a smaller scale this time around. Co-op horror game Content Warning - aka "Lethal Company but you're role-playing as an abandoned places streamer and all your party members are squealing like hogs and putting on daft accents and Brian, will you please stop trying to feed me to that giant whisk so you can go viral" - has received a big update. 3. The Steam version of Helldivers will soon require all players to sign in with a PlayStation Network account. The requirement was present when the game originally launched, but after its unexpected early success led to severe technical issues, it was temporarily removed. Now, a message from Sony on the game’s Steam page confirms that the requirement will return on May 30, and that all players will need to have linked their Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4. 4. May 3 marks the start of the Fortnite v29.40 update, introducing a new set of Star Wars skins. But, according to leaks, the price tag of these cosmetics will be around 12,000 V-Bucks. Naturally, fans are disappointed. Every cosmetic will cost you 12,000 V-Bucks, according to Fortnite leaker Shiina—and that doesn’t include LEGO Fortnite Star Wars Decor bundles. These should cost between 250 to 750 V-Bucks. If you only purchase regular Star Wars cosmetics (not including LEGO), this adds up to around $90. View the full article
  5. Sony itself has just made a big announcement about Helldivers 2, and it's not going down too well. Basically, the "grace *******" for PC players not having to link their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network one in order to play is coming to an end soon - with security being cited as the reason why this is set to become mandatory. This news came via an update on the game's Steam page, attributed to Sony Interactive Entertainment itself, rather than Helldivers developer Arrowhead. "Due to technical issues at the launch of Helldivers 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional," it reads, "That grace ******* will now expire." "Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games," Sony continues, "This is our main way to protect players from griefing and ****** by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal." Read more View the full article
  6. Take-Two publishing label Private Division has reportedly ***** off the “vast majority” of its teams in Seattle, New York, Las Vegas and Munich. That’s according to [Hidden Content], which received word of additional layoffs at Private Division following reports this week that the company is set to close internal development studios Roll 7 (Rollerdrome, OlliOlli World) and Intercept Games (Kerbal Space Program 2). Established in 2017 to “publish games from top creative talent in the growing independent development landscape”, Private Division also has an office in Singapore, according to its website. 7. Sony has sparked a backlash after announcing plans to force Helldivers 2 Steam players to connect to a PlayStation Network account. In a statement attributed to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation maker said that due to “technical issues” at the launch of Helldivers 2, it allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. Sony said this “grace *******” will now expire. Here’s what’s going to happen: on May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30 and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4. Why is Sony forcing this requirement upon Steam players? Safety and security, it said. “Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games,” Sony said in its statement. “This is our main way to protect players from griefing and ****** by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behavior. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.” Perhaps bracing itself for a backlash it knew was to come, Sony said: “We understand that while this may be an inconvenience to some of you, this step will help us to continue to build a community that you are all proud to be a part of. “Many thanks for your continued support of Helldivers 2!” It’s fair to say that PC gamers who play Helldivers 2 on Steam and have nothing to do with Sony or PlayStation are upset by the decision. Many are saying they had no idea that playing Helldivers 2 on Steam without linking to a PlayStation account was part of a “grace *******”. As has been pointed out, Helldivers 2 launched with this requirement, but it was removed after the game exploded with popularity and the servers collapsed. Still, that hasn’t prevented Steam players from hitting out at Sony for adding the requirement in now, three months after launch. I assume you did not read this when you launched the game then [Hidden Content] — PhineasJack (@PhineasJack67) May 3, 2024 Some of the more upset Steam players are threatening to abandon the game or even request a refund over the issue, although it ******** to be seen whether Sony’s move will meaningfully affect Helldivers 2’s Steam concurrent player numbers, which Valve makes public. "I paid $40 for this game and got well over 100 hours of fun out of it, absolutely got my money’s worth," redditor dudeitsivan said. "Some of the most fun I’ve had playing video games in as long as I remember. I’ll miss the game like crazy. But I will not be making a PS account. "As much as I hate my own sentiment on this, I hope this ****** player count. It’ll be the only thing that will make Sony reconsider." "It sucks," added DarthArcanus. "Arrowhead devs seem awesome. The game is awesome. But I won't support this. *******. I'll move onto other games. May not scratch the ***** Helldivers did, but there's always something new." "Just adding to say I'll do the same," commented stupherz. "Was going to spend money to get the new Warbond too but guess not anymore. Was fun but I refuse to tolerate this out of principle." Arrowhead community managers are currently putting out fires across the Helldivers Discord, which is packed with comments about today’s announcement. Responding to one player who asked the very reasonable question how this makes Helldivers 2 safer, community manager Baskinator said: “Sony has a dedicated team, a ban appeal process, and tools to take action on player reports, and it's all connected to having a PSN ID.” Replying to another user who said they felt they had the rug pulled out from under them, Baskinator said: "Well, we always knew this day would get here, and it's going about how I expected. I'm actually happy for us to be able to take action against player reports and make the game safer across the board, personally." Helldivers 2 is Sony’s biggest ever launch on PC, and Steam players make up a significant chunk of the overall player base. It’s one of the surprise smash hits of 2024, in part because of its launch on PS5 and PC at the same time, with cross-play in full effect. Arrowhead has won plaudits for its community management and the Helldivers 2 live service, with the early days server troubles now a distant memory. This announcement from Sony, however, looks set to test the loyalty of Helldivers 2’s most ********* fans. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. 12. League of Legends’ highly anticipated Arena mode finally returned in League Patch 14.9, and while Riot Games is already spruiking how great the numbers have been, some players are already starting to complain about the “boring metagame.” Balance boss Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison kick-started today’s Arena conversations, sharing the sheer number of League players diving into Arena since it went live again on X (formerly Twitter). This hype is all pretty unsurprising, especially considering the map update, upgraded shop experience (with Anvils and Prismatic items especially), and an even larger Arena size. And that’s before ranked arrives. View the full article

  16. VALORANT players are speaking up about the neverending issue of smurfing and throwing, with many agreeing Riot Games needs to make one simple change to combat the problem. If you play enough VALORANT, you’ve encountered smurfs who one-tap you before you have a chance to react or players who intentionally sabotage the team and throw rounds. Both types of players are frustrating to play with, and it’s an issue that never seems to go away. In a May 2 Reddit thread, players discussed why they believe smurfing and throwing continue to be such a huge issue and what Riot could do to minimize it. View the full article

  19. Riot Games has publicly addressed the backlash to its custom in-house anti-cheat program Vanguard, today declaring just 0.3 percent of League of Legends players have actually reported any issues. Following a huge uproar in the League community in the hours after the kernel-level Vanguard program went live, the developers moved to allay concerns by sharing a lengthy response on the League subreddit on May 2. In the response, Riot suggested most preliminary issues have been related to “common error codes” or driver incompatibilities rather than anything more nefarious. View the full article
  20. Landing spots are almost sacred in competitive Apex Legends. Teams spend months fighting each other for a spot, then build their entire gameplan around landing there. And usually, contesting another team isn’t ideal at LAN—unless you’re Aurora. Composed of veteran mouse and keyboard players Kiryl “9impulse” Kostsiu, Svyatoslav “ojrein” Korochinsky, and Konstantin “Hardecki” Kozlov, Aurora has long been known as an aggressive team unafraid of flaunting the meta or taking any ****** possible. In particular at the ALGS Split One Playoffs in Los Angeles, they’ve been notable for being one of the only teams to pick Lifeline. But they extended their wildcard reputation further on the first day of competition when they hot-dropped at three different points of interest in three consecutive games on World’s Edge, proceeding to win every single contest they took. While Pokémon Go players have been reeling from the implementation of multiple new updates, including a controversial change to the game’s avatars, a development studio that worked on some of that content was hit with layoffs. Seattle-based development studio Very Very Spaceship has worked on several projects but most notably notes its team has worked on “tentpole features” for Pokémon Go. Most recently, this included working on the updated character creation features that have been critically panned for weeks by the Pokémon Go community, with no real sign of changes coming despite the ever-growing community feedback.
