Paradox Interactive is responsible for some of the best strategy games ever made. Over the decades, the publisher has put out or created beloved entries to the genre ranging from Crusaders Kings 3 and Victoria 3 to Europa Universalis 4 and Hearts of Iron 4. Back in 2016, it also put out Stellaris, a science fiction take on 4X games that saw Paradox shift its focus from placing its work in historical settings and move into the realm of science fiction. That experiment paid off, and you can check out the results for yourself right now by picking up a copy of Stellaris on Steam for a sizable discount. Read the rest of the story... Better than Basketball, like Halo 2 meets Halo 3—these are some of the phrases Dunkey used to describe BigMode’s debut release, Animal Well. After playing through their exciting venture into the world of gaming, all I can say is that it’s exactly what the game market needs and it’s precisely the type of Indie title I would expect from Dunkey’s new studio.A charming 2D MetroidvaniaAnyone who has been following Dunkey and his many varied and hilarious videos will know that he is very particular about what he likes. ********* turn-based RPGs are out, and side-scrolling platformers are in. Since Helldivers 2 was released just over three months ago, development team Arrowhead Game Studios has frequently rebalanced the game's meta, frustrating quite a few players who have grown comfortable with weapons only to have them nerfed in the next patch. Now, it looks like those complaints might lead to a change - or, at the very least, a discussion at Arrowhead. Today on X/Twitter, in response to a player who said "Helldivers has just become un-fun for me" regarding balancing changes, Helldivers 2 director Johan Pilestedt said, "Hey, yeah i think we've gone too far in some areas. Will talk to the team about the approach to balance. It feels like every time someone finds something fun, the fun is removed." Hey, yeah i think we've gone too far in some areas. Will talk to the team about the approach to balance. It feels like every time someone finds something fun, the fun is removed. — Pilestedt (@Pilestedt) May 8, 2024 Pilestedt's response comes after months of players taking to social media to complain about the game's frequent balancing patches. Last week's patch 01.000.300, for example, increased recharge time for the LAS-99 Quasar Cannon amid several valuable buffs for other weapons, which led to frustration among players who relied on the ****. Especially this week, though, quite a few players have posted about their concerns that the nerfs "***** the fun out of the game" or make weapons entirely unviable, with some reporting never seeing frequently nerfed guns like the RS-422 Railgun in matches. Despite some players' concerns over constant nerfs, we gave Helldivers 2 a 9 in our review, calling it "the rare modern multiplayer game that does almost everything right." However, it hasn't been immune to controversy beyond its balancing changes — just last week, players left 14,000 negative reviews after it was announced that it would began requiring players to link their accounts to PlayStation Network. The decision was reversed, though, after the avalanche of backlash, and some have organized a campaign to clean up the game's Steam page with positive reviews. “The next ROG Ally.” | Image: Asus The Asus ROG Ally was the first true Steam Deck challenger; while I’d argue it fell a little short, it legitimately improved the state of affordable Windows handheld gaming with its plugged-in performance boosts and smooth variable refresh rate screen. Now, Asus is beginning to reveal its successor: the ROG Ally X. Don’t call it an Ally 2: when it ships in the second half of the year, the Windows-based Ally X will have the same AMD Z1 Extreme chipset and the same 48–120Hz VRR screen. It’s not quite like the Steam Deck OLED, where Valve got AMD to revise its chip for better battery life and stability and added a larger, brighter, gorgeous new OLED panel with improved response time and slimmer bezels. “We’re not looking at 30 to 40... This change will further complicate the process of sharing pictures of games. The Gaming Division of X quickly responded to this change, stating their relationship with Nintendo was stronger than ever and that they were actively working with this company. They also confirmed that to upload gameplay from the Nintendo Switch, users will have to first upload the files on their smartphones in order to later post the content natively to X. This change will go into effect on June 11. View the full article

Corsair has just revealed the MP700 Pro SE, its latest PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD, and the speeds it advertises are very impressive if not quite the fastest we've seen to date. In addition to the high advertised sequential read and write speeds of the Corsair MP700 Pro SE, which are quoted at 14,000MB/s and 12,000MB/s respectively, Corsair also boasts that the MP700 Pro SE has great random access speeds, meaning it should offer fast performance beyond just massive file transfers. On paper, the Corsair MP700 Pro SE quite simply looks like one of the best SSDs for gaming, but this may change once we have the chance to put it to the test. It's also worth noting that, despite the impressive numbers, the Crucial T705 advertises higher sequential speeds and is readily available with a heatsink in the box already. June 13, 2024: This previously written article is being promoted by Big Moxi Games. The story itself was written independently and without any expectation of compensation. While 2024 is a slightly quieter year in our virtual world - there are no Diablo 4s or Starfields - I've already played (and completed) more games in the space of five months than I did last year. While League of Legends will forever remain at the top my most played list, Helldivers 2 ******** high in second place, despite my natural preference for fantasy over sci-fi. It's no surprise, then, that Wardens Rising looks right up my alley. Blending the frenetic co-op combat of Helldivers, the base defense mechanics of League of Legends, and a splash of Warcraft, we caught up with Big Moxi Games' founder Damon Alberts to find out more.
