The Mines in Stardew Valley are an important part of the game, and one player's suggestion could meaningfully expand on the core concept. While farming is the primary gameplay loop in Stardew Valley, it's hardly the only way to make money, as fishing and mining provide an excellent source of income in the early game. Furthermore, exploring the Mines and the Skull Cavern is an excellent source of ore, a necessary material for upgrading the player's tools. View the full article
Douglas Goodall, a quest designer for Morrowind, is once again working on the classic Bethesda game through the power of mods. While it's been more than 20 years since Goodall actually worked at Bethesda, the game designer has been back at work on Morrowind, having worked on a mod for the game that features an all new storyline (thanks, GamesRadar). Goodall has been working on the mod under the pseudonym AFFA, where he's been serving as a writer for it. The mod in question is titled Red Wisdom - An Ashlandr Prophecy, and sees you embarking "on a mystical journey as you unravel the ancient prophecy of Red Wisdom. Join forces with wide-eyed Nirani to unlock the hidden truths that lie within the sacred burial sites of the tribes. Explore a new angle to Ashlander lore, confront wild beasts and Daedric interlopers, and piece together the puzzle which may shape the fate of Morrowind." Some of the features of the mod listed include the ability to "explore a brand new grotto used by the Ahemmusa tribe to 'bury' their *****" and "visit the exterior burial sites of the Erabenimsun and Zainab tribes." You'll also be able to collect "four elemental-themed Ashlander trinkets" all which have custom art, as well as experience "new Ashlander lore through the trials of a young Wise Woman apprentice." It sounds like a pretty impressive mod overall, and the fact it has an original Morrowind designer attached to it certainly adds something special to it too. Read more View the full article

Xbox will soon let you pre-download game updates before their scheduled release so you can make your life just that little bit easier. Look, in this day and age, we all know game updates are a necessary thing, but that doesn't make them any less annoying. I'm not gonna do that whole thing of "remember when you could just pop a game in and it would just be ready to play, no installing, no downloading" but I do miss those days. However, I do appreciate when my life is made easier when it comes to those annoying fiddly bits. For example, Microsoft has announced that you'll soon be able to pre-download updates for games before they're meant to be out, a feature that'll surely be welcome for fans of online games in particular. The feature is actually already available to Xbox Insider members, with the Xbox Update Preview released on the Alpha ring as of a few days ago. "Games that enable support for update pre-download will allow updates to be downloaded days before they are scheduled to release, so you can jump in and start playing right when the update goes live," reads a description for the feature. To be clear, that means this won't be the case for every game, so don't get **** at me when the main title in your rotation doesn't work with this feature. Read more View the full article

The whereabouts of the Triforce in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been a sticking point for some, but one player might have found it, sort of. While the Triforce is obviously the most recognisable symbols from the Zelda series, it isn't always all that important to the main story of certain games. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were two such games, both of which did feature the Triforce symbol in certain locations of the respective games, but the thing itself didn't actually make an appearance. It's barely even referred to in the game, in fact there probably aren't many Zelda games where the Triforce feels as unimportant as it does. However, as spotted by GamesRadar, a user on Reddit found something interesting. As you can see in the post shared to the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit above, there are a trio of images showing Tears of the Kingdom's three dragons, Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh. And interestingly, as described by TheMathNut, the user that shared the pictures, "about half way up on each elemental dragon is a piece of the Triforce. I thought it was neat since I always thought the three dragons symbolised the three goddesses." Unsurprisingly, this post has proven to be popular on the game's subreddit, given that this little Easter Egg is a bit of a hard one to spot - I've spent plenty of time farming scales on those dragons' backs, and never noticed it. Earlier this month, fighting game players across the US learned that the Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive hotel was to close suddenly, pulling the rug out from under the upcoming CEOtaku tournament. This sucks for a variety of reasons, obviously. At a base level, a lot of hotel staff are getting ***** off. For the attendees of CEOTaku, it will force a sudden change in travel plans, and the organizers must now undergo the expensive process of tracking down and securing a new venue on short notice. But more than that, it means that one of the last remaining in-person gaming subcultures is losing a home of sorts. The Wyndham Orlando Resort IDrive has been the home of CEO and attendees events since 2011. That's over a decade of in-person gaming events, slowly growing and morphing alongside the wider gaming industry around it. CEO stands for Community Effort Orlando, a fitting name for a tournament salvaged from the wreckage of a last-minute cancellation that forced founder Alex Jebailey and Florida natives to come together and play video games despite the circumstances. Since these fledgling beginnings, CEO and Wyndham Orlando IDrive have been tied by the hip, but for the past few years it's remained a home to CEO's anime fighter sister event CEOtaku. "I am personally devastated," states founder of CEO Alex Jebailey. "It's very hard to find venues that you create a genuine relationship with as they were the first hotel to give CEO a chance back in 2011. My first thoughts were the employees and staff that have taken care of CEO over the years to which I hope they bounce back with other opportunities. It began with Lisa in 2011 helping me understand how hotel contracts work, AV media giving me more than fair pricing on AV and Divya, who I will forever be grateful for handling my contracts since about 2014 there who always helped where I needed it." Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone is definitely feeling some pressure over fans expectations of Haunted Chocolatier, but it's not weighing too heavily on him. Back in 2021, Barone announced Haunted Chocolatier, the acclaimed indie developer's second game that even over two years since its reveal (no, I don't know how that much time has passed either) it hasn't really been shown in action all that much. There have been some screenshots shown here and there, but mostly fans have been kept busy with Stardew Valley's recent 1.6 update. In a recent interview with Aftermath, though, Barone spoke about what's next following this update, including some discussions about Haunted Chocolatier. "[Fan expectation] definitely puts pressure on me, but it's better to have a delayed game that's actually good than a bad game that's on time," Barone said of working on Haunted Chocolatier. "When it's ready, that's when I'll release it. I'm not too concerned with the pressure. I don't feel like I owe anyone anything when it comes to Haunted Chocolatier. It's a game that I'm deciding to make. I don't need to make it." Read more View the full article
