  1. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has done very well at the box office, but Adam Wingard reportedly won't be back for the next one. It's clear that audiences just love big ole monsters duking it out, as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire surpassed $563 million at the box office earlier this week, positioning it to take the top spot in the MonsterVerse's rankings (Kong: Skull Island took home $568 million at the box office). But money isn't everything, as The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that Wingard won't be back for another sequel, despite being interested in having more stories to tell in that world. This is apparently because Wingard is now attached to direct the A24 project Onslaught, an action thriller, where he'll be working with his regular work partner Simon Barrett (they made You're Next and The Guest together). The Hollywood Reporter claims that with Wingard set to ****** this next, this didn't fit into Legendary's plans to quickly move on to another instalment in its MonsterVerse. An earlier hint that Wingard had split off from directing the next entry is that the sequel has attached Dave Callaham, best known for writing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and co-writing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Now, according to THR's sources, the split between Wingard and Legendary is official. This obviously leaves Legendary looking for a new director, but if it's looking to get moving quickly, it probably won't be long before someone gets attached. Read more View the full article
  2. Helldivers 2’s updates may take a little longer to arrive going forwards, according to a member of the development team. Since its release in February the game has been receiving a steady stream of updates from its studio Arrowhead, but this stream may start to slow down soon. As reported by PC Gamer, community manager Thomas Petersson, who posts on the game’s Discord server as Twinbeard, told one user that the next update will come “when it’s done”, pointing out that the pace at which updates have been released could potentially impact the quality of the game. 10. Hunt: Showdown developer Crytek has announced the end of support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game as it readies the release of a significant free next-gen upgrade. Hunt: Showdown is a tense multiplayer first-person shooter in which players work to survive with and against each other as they hunt mythical monsters before reaching an extraction point. Crytek is treating August 15 as a “significant relaunch” of Hunt: Showdown, which launched first on Steam in Early Access form in February before a release on Xbox in 2019. The full release followed later in 2019, before a launch on PS4 in 2020. The free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S update goes live on August 15, and brings with it a new map, an upgrade to CryEngine version 5.11, performance improvements for the PC and console versions, as well as a new UI/UX design. After the update goes live on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, you will no longer be able to play Hunt on the last generation of consoles, Crytek warned. Crytek said player accounts, entitlements, and all DLCs carry forward to the new version for free “when you’re ready to make the hardware transition.” Crytek said it will reveal details in the months leading up to the next-gen update. Here's what to expect from the developer: Community surveys, lessons learned, and how this data will affect future eventsA sneak peek into the new UX/UI designTechnological upgrades and performance improvements coming to Hunt via CRYENGINE 5.11 and what that means for playersAn update on the Fair Play Task Force and the steps being taken to address cheating, exploitive play, and toxic interactionsThe evolution of Hunter recruitment/ Prestige systems, as well as changes being made to the progression systemOverall design vision for game mechanics and the decisions being made around Hunter revival, Health Chunks, restorations, burning downed Hunters, and more Crytek is also working on first-person shooter sequel Crysis 4, announced in 2022 but without a release window. 12. If you forgot a new Street Fighter movie was happening, don't worry, me too, but the film's logo is here to remind us it exists. Last year, Legendary Entertainment gave the honestly not that surprising announcement that a Street Fighter movie was in the works. Video game movies are all the rage these days, after all, and the same production company also made Detective Pikachu and found a lot of success there, so why not a franchise like Street Fighter? We still haven't actually seen anything of the movie itself, nor has any talent been attached to it just yet, but thanks to Collider there is a small update on the project: we now know what the film's logo will look like. And as you can see below, it… well, it looks like a Street Fighter logo! Not necessarily from any one particular game, more just a distillation of all of them (except for Street Fighter 6's very boring one), but it's certainly easily recognisable. While we might not know who will star as classic characters like Ryu or Chun Li, we do at least know who'll be directing. It was announced shortly after the film was revealed to be in the works that *********** twin filmmaker duo Danny and Michael Philippou will be helming the film as directors. The brothers are probably now best known for their directorial debut, the 2022 supernatural horror film Talk To Me, which ended up doing very well at the box office compared to its small budget of $4.5 million. Prior to that, the two found a lot of success with their YouTube channel RackaRacka, which uh, we won't discuss the quality of. Read more View the full article
  13. We just got a new Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree story trailer yesterday. As is their druthers, FromSoft have at once made the events it depicts feel of earth-shattering importance while providing basically no concrete information. A lot of people will be putting out gargantuan theory posts right now, rambling on about Miquella, the Crucible, the Golden Order blah blah. This is all a distraction. Anyone with eyes can tell you that the primary movers and shakers of this final chapter in the Lands Between are a secret faction of hitherto secret spear people. You're likely confused, and that's understandable. As the foremost authority on ephemeral nonsense in Elden Ring, I’m the only one who has your back here. Read more View the full article
  14. The new monetisation and Battle Pass structure for MultiVersus has been revealed ahead of the game’s return next week. In a new blog post detailing the changes in full, developer Player First Games explained that returning players will earn new in-game rewards. 15. League of Legends has over 160 champions, but not all of them see action on Summoner’s Rift. One champ released in 2023 is suffering a terrible fate, recording a worryingly low pick rate in Patch 14.10. Upon seeing Naafiri’s pick rate in Patch 14.10, players concluded in a May 21 post on League‘s subreddit that her design completely missed the mark. Currently, Naafiri is the second least-picked champion in League, right behind Ziggs. Even though it’s completely normal for a champion’s pick rate to fall drastically after release, Naafiri’s popularity plummeted far more than normal. View the full article

  17. Ok, so it's been less than 24 hours since CD Projekt let folks get their hands on The Witcher 3's new REDkit modding tools. Naturally, someone's already had a go at porting the bunch of areas that make up the city of Vizima in The first Witcher game into 3. If you're out of the loop, REDKIT is designed to give folks modding CDPR's masterpiece more power than ever before, with access to a lot of the same tools the studio orginally used to create the game itself. That includes the ability to do stuff like create new quests, or as is key in this case, add in entire new territories. So, the latter's exactly what modder AngryCatster's tried with some of the maps from the first Witcher game, porting them across into TW3 just to see how things look. While they admit that this is "fairly low-effort attempt" at bringing these areas to the newer game, what they've ended up with is essentially an empty version of Vizima that Geralt can explore. 19. VALORANT is getting a map pool update soon, but it doesn’t address one of the community’s most popular requests: Rotate out Ascent. As annoying as the devs choosing to ignore the player base sounds, Riot Games says it had actually considered the plea—but “decided against it” for the time being. Under a Reddit post calling out Riot for not taking out Ascent this time, altrombe, product manager at VALORANT, confirmed the map will go out at some point—just not now. “It’s not a permanent fixture in our rotation structure,” they said. 20. Destiny 2 is only two weeks away from the release of its biggest expansion, The Final Shape. With the new expansion, some content added with the Into the Light update is leaving for good, including shiny BRAVE ******* rolls. Luckily, with the Destiny 2 weekly reset on May 21, Bungie increased drop rates for BRAVE weapons and Trophies of Bravery. More BRAVE weapons and Trophies mean more chances of getting a shiny variant of a BRAVE *******, so now is the best time ever to jump back into Onslaught and farm them. View the full article

  23. The X-Men have been teased in the MCU for a little while now, but it's sounding like a film of their own is finally in the works. In films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and series like Ms. Marvel, the MCU has slowly been sowing the seeds of the X-Men, with the former having an alternate universe of Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier slightly unceremoniously ******* off, and the latter retconning Ms. Marvel to be a mutant as opposed to an Inhuman. Now, as reported by Deadline, it sounds like Marvel is getting its **** in gear with the X-Men. According to Deadline's report, Michael Lesslie, the original writer behind the *********'s Creed movie, as well as last year's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is currently in negotiations to write the screenplay for an X-Men film. Deadline also writes that the film is still in early development, with no talent or director currently attached, and no release date currently planned. You probably also won't be surprised to hear that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is attached to produce, but then when isn't he? Both Marvel and Disney have recently found success in the nostalgic throwback/ comeback series X-Men '97, which is set to get a second season, though Marvel's streaming boss would like you to remember that animation takes quite a while, so don't expect it any time soon. 24. You can never tell which games will take off on Steam, and Banana is a great example. It has a simple premise—repeatedly click a banana to raise your score—and somehow, it has over 16,000 players on Steam. Banana is free, which is a big pull, and offers DLC banana skins to shake things up a bit. But there isn’t any interesting gameplay here, and there isn’t a secret waiting for you after you click enough times. You’re simply clicking a banana to make your score go up, and that’s all there is to it. View the full article
