  1. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League developer Rocksteady has teased the introduction of Mrs. Freeze with a chilly change to the game world made by the latest patch. Players spotted the small tease for Season 2 following the release of this week’s Season 1 - Episode 2 update. The clip, published by the Arkham Videos X/Twitter account, shows an icy section of Metropolis alongside an advert for ***-*** Frozen Chicken Bites. The latest ******** Squad patch added a small tease in Metropolis for Season 2, which supposedly will introduce Mrs. Freeze as a new playable character. [Hidden Content] — Batman Arkham Videos (@ArkhamVideos) May 22, 2024 Rocksteady has yet to announce Season 2 or what it will add to the game, but it is expected to launch with a new playable character. Season 1 added Joker to the live service co-op shooter. The addition of Mrs. Freeze won’t come as much of a surprise to ***** the Justice League’s core fanbase, given datamining has suggested playable characters on their way include Mrs. Freeze, Lawless, and Deathstroke. Given ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League's Joker is an alternate-reality Elseworlds variant hoovered into the Arkhamverse by Brainiac, this in-bound Mrs. Freeze may be an Elseworlds variant of Mr. Freeze. In February, ***** the Justice League players were surprised to hear main antagonist Brainiac appear to spoil the upcoming addition of Mrs. Freeze in-game. Reddit user ZeronintyPlays posted a gameplay clip showing their Harley Quinn taking down an ******, only to be called the wrong name by Brainiac. "I didn't expect you to be the weak link in this chain, Freeze," the baddie said. As reported earlier this month, ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League has disappointed Warner Bros. Discovery, owner of developer Rocksteady, to the tune of a $200 million hit to revenue. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League was panned by critics upon launch, with extremely low player numbers on Steam. Some of the frustration stems from ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League not being another Batman game from Rocksteady, despite the fact it is set within the Arkhamverse. The developer’s Batman Arkham series is much-loved by fans, with 2011’s Batman: Arkham City in particular held up as one of the greatest, if not the greatest superhero video game of all time. ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League, on the other hand, is a live service third-person combat game in which Batman is a villain. Rocksteady has faced tough questions around Warner Bros.’ long-term commitment to ******** Squad’s live service. Warner Bros. is yet to announce Rocksteady's next project, but earlier this month it revealed Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR game developed by Camouflaj, maker of the Iron Man VR game, and set for release exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 later in 2024. 3. Wuthering Waves is out and about, and loads of players are diving in and messing around with the open world action gacha. But, while many are out and about pumping up their union level or hunting down echoes, others are pushing the game's limits to see if they can break anything. It turns out, they can. By adjusting your device's clock, you can access a five-star character trail before its intended release. The Wuthering Waves character in question is Yinlin, a five star who isn't available in game at the moment via normal means. Through changing the device date to a point in the future when the Yinlin character trail is active and playable, cheeky players have been able to hop in and check her out early as shown in this bilibili video. Thankfully, it doesn't appear that you can use this technique to access other content, such as limited events or future dailies, but this sort of thing appearing to work client-side has many curious as to what further exploits are possible. For those who don't know, client-side refers to things the game determines on the player's end, whereas server-side refers to bits of the game the devs handle from their servers and the like. That's a very simplified explainer but for the purposes of this story it'll do! Read more View the full article
  4. I cannot compare my experience of writing a review for The Splintered Sea, the first paid expansion for dastardly clever physics puzzle builder Besiege, to that of a journaling sailor facing lethal storms on the horizon. Still, if we take for granted the idea that a review is only really valuable as an insight into the experience of the player: I haven’t been feeling especially great this week. That in mind: Splintered Sea is more Besiege, thoughtfully applied to its already expansive toolkit. More importantly, it's currently bringing me deep and deeply needed moments of untainted, childlike, vaguely-Orkish joy. Read more View the full article

  7. The Asus ROG Ally X, a sort of semi-sequel to last year’s ROG Ally handheld PC, has had its specs spilled over at Videocardz. I’m usually a lot more suspicious of hardware leaks, which are often just out-of-date or otherwise inaccurate info, but I’ve also sat through enough mic-muted prebriefings to know an official slideshow when I see one, and that appears to be exactly what Videocardz got its hands on. Besides, these specs include a gigantic 80Whr battery upgrade (doubling the ROG Ally’s 40Whr capacity), so we can at least file this under "News James wants to be true." 9. Skulls! You’ve got one. I’ve got one. Everybody has a lovely skull keeping their lovely face right where it should be. Warhammer is big, so it needs must have multiple of them, hence their yearly event Skulls, which collates a bunch of Games Workshop related announcements into a sort of bizzaro world Nintendo Direct if Yoshi was actually a parasitic corpse emperor. There’s usually at least a few game announcements in there, and this year was a bumper. The headline announcement being an upcoming sequel to well-loved space-pope turn-based strategy Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus. Yes, yes. I’m getting to the dog. Read more View the full article
  10. Saturday, May 25, 2024 Neil Druckmann has clarified that Sony took his comments out of context in this interview, and has a provided a full response on social media. This article has been updated to reflect that. Naughty Dog has a bit of a penchant for innovation. Between triple-A PlayStation big hitters like Uncharted and The Last of Us, the studio has always looked to push the boundaries of storytelling through its games. As gaming itself has progressively entered mainstream media, it's no longer considered the geeky, odd cousin in the arts family. Perhaps it's because we've now all collectively given into our nerdiest instincts or otherwise, but what is certain is that Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann is looking to push the needle even further. 11. Videogames and especially role-playing games are chock-full of sheltered upbringings that go ***** up. Innocent times and places like the prologue for Baldur's Gate, which unfolds in the vast, fortified monastery of Candlekeep (beware spoilers from this point on). BioWare's first ever RPG opens with your unsuspecting Chosen One learning the ropes from the old sage Gorion. There are fetchquests that take you around the enormous citadel, bits of combat training to do, cosy formative chinwags to have with characters like your childhood friend Imoen. But it's not to last, of course: Gorion is murdered, and you must rove the Sword Coast in pursuit of his *******. When you return to Candlekeep later in the game, this once-proud bastion of learning has been filled with doppelgangers of Gorion and other acquaintances, a parade of chatbots waiting to stab you in the back. 12. I was pretty certain that I was pretty good at Elden Ring y'know? I can beat the game handily, and have a save file parked right in Mohg's boss arena ready for Shadow of the Erdtree when it launches in the near future. However, one player has destroyed such illusions. Compared to MissMikkaa, I am garbage. You may be wondering why? Well, dear reader, MissMikkaa has managed to beat Elden Ring's new game +7 difficulty with a level one character. She managed the feat in 269 hours, having to take on and overcome each and every boss before the job was done. This journey happened on Twitch, where she streamed the entire process. "I used no summons, great runes, throwing pots, sorceries nor incantations," MissMikkaa posted on Twitter, highlighting interesting details for those keen to learn more. This info came alongside footage of her Malenia *****, which required 63 attempts. Interestingly enough it was the pair of Valiant Gargoyles that proved the most daunting, taking 405 tries. 14. If you've been a bit frustrated with the state of Helldivers 2 and are looking for reasons to jump back into the Galactic War - well, Arrowhead's here to provide 'em. The latest Major Order will reward a new mech if completed, and the studio's been taking community pitches for a new stratagem. In case you missed it, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt recently stepped aside as CEO, in order to focus more heavily on helping oversee Helldivers 2's development. While the wider effects of this will likely take a little while to come to fruition, that hasn't stopped the developer from getting off to a quick start - he's already asked the community for some stratagem ideas they'd like to see become a thing. Before we get to that, though let's start with this latest Major Order. The task is to liberate one planet - Varylia 5 - something players have already gotten around 30% of the way through as of writing. The reward would be "the dual-autocannon EXO-49 Emancipator exosuit", a mech that'll be possible to produce if an automaton "Petafactory" on the planet can be secured for Super Earth. 17. Since XDefiant launched on May 21, players have been complaining about various problems with the game. Among them, one of the main issues is that leveling up weapons is tediously slow. It begins today at noon CT time and lasts until the same time on Tuesday. 20. Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked has been revealed and its Battle Pass will let players unlock Fallout's T-60 Power Armor and, later in the season, the Wastelander Magneto Outfit. This latest season of Fortnite is available today, May 24, and brings a literal wasteland into the Battle Royale. Following a sandstorm, a new biome was created in the south called wasteland and "Wasteland Warriors" have claimed the area for their own. You obviously can't have a wasteland without Fallout, and the Wrecked Battle Pass will let you don some T-60 Power Armor after doing a bit of grinding. When you purchase the Battle Pass, you will unlock an Outfit called The Machinist. By leveling it up, you will be able to unlock Rust, Peabody, Ringmaster Scarr, and then, finally, the T-60 Power Armor. That's not all, as the Brite Raider and Megalo Don Outfits will become available two levels after that. The Fallout fun doesn't end there either, as ice-cold Nuka-Cola bottles will be littered around the map that will restore Health and, over time, a bit of Shield. Beyond Fallout, Marvel fans will be delighted to know that they will be able to unlock the Wastelander Magneto Outfit from Battle Pass Quests in July. A Wasteland Waiting to be Conquered Whether you have the T-60 Power Armor or not, the wasteland will have a ton of things to do in it and challenges to conquer. There will also be a few new POIs, including the Redline Rig, Nitrodome, and Brutal Beachhead. All of these are run by different Wasteland Warriors that you'll be able to take down if you dare to try. Redline Rig's The Machinist will drop a medallion that will recharge your shield over time and her Mythic *******, Nitrodome's Ringmaster Scarr will drop a medallion that gives you infinite ammo and a small damage buff alongside a Mythic Ringmaster's ***** Bolt, and Brutal Beachhead's Megalo Don will drop a medallion that will infuse you with infinite Nitro and Megalo Don's Nitro Fists. Oh, and you can steal their vehicles as well. Speaking of Nitro, the island will now be home to Nitro Splash and Nitro Barrels that are being shipped right from Redline Rig. Nitro Splash is a portable container that you can throw to infuse your car or yourself with Nitro while Nitro Barrels will fly off when you hit them and explode on whatever it lands on. As for what Nitro is, it will increase the speed of cars, give "explosive ramming power that deals damage and knockback," decrease fuel consumption, and buff attached ******* mods. For the player, it will increase their movement speed, give them the ability to "bust through builds," sprint for longer periods, reload guns faster, and take no fall damage. Additionally, there are now Nitro Fists that lets players perform a 3x punch combo, uppercut, or aerial punch. These fists have four charges and each one recharges every eight seconds. There is so much more to look forward to in this new season, including a War Bus that you can ******* that comes complete with two cannons and an EMP pulse, new and returning vehicle mods, the ability to create roadblocks with a ***** Bolt, and much more. If this isn't enough Fallout for you, be sure to check out our review of Season 1 of the Fallout TV show, our explainer of its ending, and the Fallout game you need to play while you wait for Season 2. 21. Image: Epic Games Out with the gods, in with... a post-apocalypse. After some teasing, Fortnite just launched its latest battle royale season — we’re up to Chapter 5: Season 3 — and it’s heavily inspired by **** Max and Fallout (in fact, Fallout is part of it). It’s called “Wrecked,” and it introduces a new wasteland region, a larger focus on vehicular combat, and, for some reason, Magneto. First up, let’s talk about the island itself. In the game’s fiction, a massive sandstorm rolled in, completely changing the southern section of the map. There are three new locations: a refinery called Redline Rig, a vehicle arena called Nitrodrome, and a beach area called Brutal Beachhead. To go along with them are “Wasteland Warriors,” which are basically this... Continue reading… View the full article
