Five years ago, a group of friends who played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive together had a simple question: “How can we make getting skins more fun and transparent for players?” The answer was to create Skin.Club, a website that gives players several options for how to acquire skins that can be transferred directly into their Steam account. Skin.Club has continued to add new features over the years and has grown in popularity. It has worked with some of the most prominent professional players, esports teams, and streamers in the Counter-Strike community — including Karrigan, Kassad, KennyS, 00Nation, Into The Breach, and many more. If you’re not familiar with the Counter-Strike series, it’s a first-person shooter that started back in 2000 and was originally a mod for Half-Life. That first iteration was a single-player game, but it’s become an online multiplayer title in the years since. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launched in 2012 and was the fourth entry in the series. In 2013, it added countless different ******* skins, stickers, and other cosmetics with various levels of wear and tear. Those skins were obtained in standard cases, which players could earn during gameplay or buy in a marketplace. In-game keys to retrieve these items cost a few dollars, however on Skin.Club, not only is there a wider range of different cases with different variations, but you don’t have to pay for an in-game key. When Global Offensive was updated and re-released as Counter-Strike 2 in 2023, players’ acquired skins carried over, as did the system of opening cases to acquire more skins. When players get a new case, they can see what skins are possibly inside— except for the gold category, which only says there is a rare special item without saying what that item is. The odds of acquiring each individual skin are unclear. That’s the first thing Skin.Club aimed to address. They offer cases and display all the skins that can be found inside — there’s nothing hidden behind a “rare” category. You also can click “check odds range” to clearly see your percentage chance of getting each skin. You can then click “odds history” to see the history of that particular case and how the odds for each item have changed over time, increasing transparency. While you can always simply buy a case to open, Skin.Club also spices things up with case battles. This pits you against other players as you each open the same cases at the same time. The skins pulled by each player are displayed, along with a dollar amount that indicates the value of that skin. While the value of each skin is shown, the total value each player has received is not shown until the end. Each battle lasts a preset number of rounds, and when the rounds end, the system reveals the total value each player received. Whoever’s skins totaled the most money gets all the skins everyone drew. There are several different types of battles, too. You can face off solo against up to three opponents, or you can team up with someone and take part in 2v2 battles. Then there’s Crazy Mode, which turns the whole thing upside down and means whoever’s skins totaled the least money wins them all. Skin.Club has made sure that all of these systems are also transparent. You can watch battles currently happening live to see what people are pulling from each case. You can click on individual usernames to see their overall record in battles and the outcome of their last five battles. Once you acquire skins through cases or battles, you can upgrade or exchange them. Upgrading allows you to select skins you have in your inventory and specify a desired one you’d like to turn them into. Depending on the price difference between your skins and the one you want, you’ll be shown a percentage chance of successfully upgrading. Then you click “upgrade items” and see if you get the skin you wanted. Exchanging allows you to trade skins in your inventory for a different one you want. You can add your skins together to increase the value of your trade-in, and if it equals the value of the skin you want, you can swap them and your skin will immediately be available in your inventory. Opening cases, taking part in battles, or making upgrades earns you event points, which you can then spend in a number of ways. You can use them in the marketplace found in the event section, which allows you to get cases, specific skins, or funds to be added to your account balance. Or you can use them to participate in giveaways. You trade event points for giveaway tickets, which you can then place on one of the available giveaways. The more giveaway tickets you spend, the better your odds of successfully getting your prize. A leaderboard will display the 20 users who have amassed the most event points, and at the end of the week, all 20 will get a reward. That could be a free skin, a free case to open, or funds to be added to your account. The leaderboard resets each week, so there’s constantly a new chance to get to the top. You’ll also gain XP for your account every time you spend money to open cases, battle, or upgrade. As you build XP, your account will level up. As your level increases, you’ll get more free daily cases. At level 20, you’ll get three free cases every 24 hours. Once you hit level 50, you’ll get permanent access to a special tier of event giveaway and exclusive items on the marketplace. Skin.Club offers Counter-Strike 2 players a fun and transparent way to acquire in-game skins. Created by a group of friends to enhance the skin acquisition experience, the website allows users to open cases and engage in case battles where players compete to win skins based on their value. Unlike traditional case openings, Skin.Club reveals all potential items and their acquisition odds, ensuring transparency. Players can also upgrade or exchange skins and earn event points and XP, which can be used in the marketplace or for giveaways. Additionally, Skin.Club supports the esports community by sponsoring professional players, teams, and streamers, helping them improve and grow the field of cybersports. Dota 2 recently received a major update where one character in particular was hit the hardest—Tinker. The hero was massively nerfed in the patch, seeing his win rate plummet—and players have now officially bid farewell to the old version of Tinker. “In Memoriam: Tinker, 2013-2024” is the title of an emotional video posted to Reddit on May 26, showcasing Tinker’s recent nerf and several clips of his old self performing as well as ever. Tinker lost the ability to use Rearm to reset his item cooldowns and will no longer be able to spam item abilities such as Shiva’s Guard, Ethereal Blade, the Blink Dagger, and many others he was so known for and were featured in the video itself. While Swen Vincke admitted that “it would be a lie to say that we didn't [crunch]”, he insisted that it was less than on past Larian games such as Divinity, staff were paid for the overtime and it seemingly didn’t go as far as working late nights or weekends (for the most part, anyway).
