Though Starfield has its fair share of awkward moments, many players still argue that the Red Mile is where the game completely fails to meet expectations. It's been nearly nine months since Starfield came out, and though the updates have fixed a majority of its technical issues, it may take longer still to address Starfield's gameplay and narrative shortcomings. While Starfield had some standout quests, such as Entangled or Groundpounder, many of them had a structure that felt lackluster compared to earlier Bethesda titles such as Skyrim. I'm sure you could fill a bottomless pit with the things Larian decided not to add to Baldur's Gate 3. One of those things was, in fact, a bottomless pit. Not just a bottomless pit, but a conveniently portable, Looney Tunes-esque ***** into which you could seemingly chuck everything from items and equipment to characters. Speaking to me during the same interview in which they discussed long-abandoned plans for bringing back Baldur’s Gate 1’s Candlekeep, Larian CEO Swen Vincke and Baldur’s Gate 3 lead writer Adam Smith (RPS in peace) touched on the subject with tantalising brevity. Argh, if only I hadn’t had to run off and catch a taxi, I’d still be there now, discussing the many applications of a portable *****. Bypassing carrying capacity limits would just be the start of it. The ***** came up during a discussion of whether Larian have considered testing any smaller, more focussed videogame concepts, perhaps to let younger developers try their wits on something less sprawling than a Baldur’s Gate. “Oh, you mean within Larian in terms of incubation? But there's always stuff happening that you never see,” Vincke began. “I think people still underestimate how much work these big RPGs are already, and how many components there are in there - you never see a lot of small things that are being done, but there's a lot of innovation happening, other things that never see the daylight.” “You see small groups, and juniors in those small groups, you know, they'll bring the things that they care about,” Adam added. “You can see, I think, in Baldur’s Gate 3 that there a lot of scripters who are immersive sim fans, and who are bringing ideas from elsewhere. The world is sandboxy, and within that they are playing with their favourite genres. I get to play with horror, you know, one of my favourite genres, in the storytelling. An RPG of that scale, you’re kind of making lots of things all at the same time. So there's definitely the space to do that.” Read more View the full article

In what turned out to be yet another disappointing tournament run, Shopify Rebellion were eliminated from Riyadh Masters’ North ********* closed qualifier grand final by Nouns. The setback has cast a cloud over Arteezy’s pro career. Nouns—captained by ex-Shopify Rebellion player Tal “Fly” Aizik—beat Shopify 3-2 in the best-of-five grand finals and secured Riyadh Masters’ lone North ********* slot on June 2. This means Artour “Arteezy” Babaev won’t be competing in the $5 million prize pool tournament, which is set to be the biggest Dota 2 event in the ongoing calendar with the decline in TI prize money. What do you think developer Slavic Magic needs to add to Manor Lords next? That's exactly the question it's recently asked the game's community, kicking off a bit of a barney between butcher fans, town wall desirers, and a fair amount of people who lie somewhere between those two extreme orthodoxies. Yup, we've barely had time for the body to go cold after the concept of mourning was added to the game via a patch that emerged from beta the other week, and people are already debating where it should go next. To be fair though, this is just democracy in action, you know, the kind that might make you long for feudalism. All this hoohah was kicked off by a poll put up by Slavic Magic over the weekend on the game's Discord server. It simply asked folks whether the game's next patch should focus on town walls, butchers, or just more bugfixes, quality-of-life features, and balancing. Read more View the full article

Hot on the heels of the most recent update in May, Starfield appears to be gearing up for another major announcement if its Steam listing is anything to go by. Bethesda's massive sci-fi RPG may have been in players hands for just shy of a year now but that doesn't mean the community has given up hope that the studio has further plans for the game. Bethesda has previously promised that it's working on some major updates and mechanics and those features may drop much sooner than expected. View the full article
It's important to note here that this model is more of a yearly update than a generational overhaul. The Champions League final took place on June 1, but it was interrupted by pitch invaders, allegedly paid by a Kick streamer. The pitch invaders were captured by photographers, and the images quickly flooded social media, with the individuals seemingly wearing t-shirts with Kick streamer Mellstroy’s nickname on the back. In a post on X following the incident, soccer content creator Janty claimed the invaders were paid £300,000 (around $380,000) by Mellstroy after the streamer put out an “open offer” to anyone who invaded the UCL final with his name on their shirt. Summer Game Fest is set to air later this week, and ahead of that host and organiser Geoff Keighley made it clear what games won't make an appearance. With E3 now *****, everything falls to Keighley to keep the spirit alive in some shape or form with Summer Game Fest. It's certainly not the video game Christmas we all used to look forward to, and I'm not always a fan of how Keighley presents and handles things, but it's the closest thing we've got to E3 now, and there's normally some big reveals too. Last night the Muppet-loving industry figurehead held a Q&A on The Game Awards' Twitch account, where he spoke about all sorts of industry topics, as well as what people can generally expect from the upcoming Summer Game Fest showcase. And quite notably, he made it clear what games won't be appearing during the event. As much as I'm sad to hear it, Kingdom Hearts 4 is one such title that supposedly won't be appearing during this week's stream. "People keep asking about Kingdom Hearts, I don’t know why," Keighley said during the livestream. "People are setting themselves up for ********, but you guys can keep hoping." It's been a couple of years since Kingdom Hearts 4 was initially revealed, and it's been pretty much radio silence since then, so that's why myself and other fans are hungry for an update. There is always Sunday's Xbox showcase, though I doubt it. Read more View the full article

A DIY engineer has created a realistic tank simulator that puts the average haptic controller to shame. The mechanical monster is jury-rigged to the top of an office desk and must be reloaded with a new shell after every shot. The recoil is terrifying. It's operated by three people: one person drives the tank with a steering wheel and levers, another uses cranks to aim the **** barrel, and a third reloads the shells that eject automatically from the chamber after every desk-lifting blast. The "shells" in question are 2-litre bottles of fizzy drink, and the crew has set up a whole rack of these bottles for panicked reloading. If you are the kind of person who yearns for the immersion of the legendary Steel Battalion controller then you will get a definite buzz from watching the ****** machine in action below. Plus, with games like **** of War: Ragnarok coming to Steam soon, there are going to be some graphically intensive games to check out which will zap your power fast--best come prepared. The original Hyrule Warriors is a fun if not particularly revolutionary game, but Nintendo were apparently so worried about it, it almost kept it Japan-exclusive. Unless it's a particularly small or niche title, most major ********* games make it over here these days, normally day and date too. It's taken a while to get to this point, but gaming is just so globally popular these days, including some of the more eclectic titles to come out of Japan (like the now very successful Yakuza series) that it's generally a safe bet to localise them over in the West. However, back when the original Hyrule Warriors was originally gearing up to release, Nintendo of America apparently wasn't so keen on it, as it was particularly worried that it could have tarnished the Zelda brand. This comes from former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, who you'll probably best remember as the frequent hosts of Nintendo Treehouse showcases. The pair now have their own podcast, simply titled the Kit & Krysta Podcast, where they frequently talk about their experiences at Nintendo, often sharing various tidbits of information about games that were released while they were working there. On the most recent episode of the podcast, which you can check out above, Hyrule Warriors came up, with Ellis describing it as "eye-opening at the time." Ellis continued, "Like, oh wait what? You're combining Zelda with Dynasty Warriors? Read more View the full article
