  1. The creators of Hyper Light Drifter are not ones to rest. In the terrifying tidal wave of trailers that continually washes over us this weekend, they send word of a new game via the Devolver Direct. Possessor(s) is a side-scrolling character action game of mysterious sci-fi horror set in a "quarantined city ripped apart and flooded by an interdimensional catastrophe". This is coming on top of the already-announced Hyper Light Breaker. Please, Heart Machine, pace yourselves. I barely have time to play the daily crossword. Read more View the full article
  2. The news panamax has come in and all the shipping containers are spilling off the deck in an uncontrollable catastrophe of trailers. Here's another: you may remember The Crush House, the colourful 90s reality show where you film the cast by day, trying to please the audience, and creep around by night, trying to investigate the unsettling true nature of the show. No? You don't remember? Well, it has been a long year. Never mind, The Crush House now has a release date. But I'm not telling you what it is until you come watch the new trailer. 3. Door-and-peace-******-the-peace FPS Anger Foot, the best game ever made, has finally got a release date: July 11th 2024. This is spectacular news, mainly because I’d already printed off a load of shirts that said ‘Anger Foot GOTY 2024.’ I was going to do some socks, too, but I do not trust this game anywhere near footwear. 4. Cult of the Lamb. | Image: Devolver Digital Devolver Digital’s keynote events tend to be, let’s say, unique. And the publisher’s presence at Summer Game Fest 2024 was no exception. Like last year, Devolver focused on just a handful of really interesting indie games, which ranged from a game about fighting through an interdimensional catastrophe to an expansion that somehow makes Cult of the Lamb even weirder. There was both a first-person kicker and a thirst-person shooter. If you missed it live, here are all the reveals. PossessorComing to PC and console in 2025 A slick side-scrolling action game from the creators of Solar Ash and the Hyper Light games, Possessor looks absolutely gorgeous. It also sounds like it’ll be plenty challenging. Here’s the official setup: Play as Luca,... Continue reading… View the full article
  5. I finished The Talos Principle 2 in 2023, but I've kept it installed on my PC in hopes that an expansion would someday be announced. Today my wish was granted: Road to Elysium is a three-part follow-on to Croteam's brilliant futuristic puzzle game, and it's coming next week... Read more.View the full article
  6. There were loads of fantastic game releases in the Summer Game Fest 2024, but there are definitely some I’m going to be checking out the moment I can.Enotria, The Last SongImage: Enotria The Last SongTo kickstart this list, I’m choosing what is currently my most anticipated game: Enotria, The Last Song. This game is oozing with flavor and theme, and it looks as though it’ll a Soulslike more akin to Bloodborne and ***** of P with the mask and ******* switching.Recent non-Fromsoft Soulslikes, like ***** of P and Lords of the Fallen, have been performing very well recently, which is a good omen for Enortia. I love the stylish classical theme – it just looks so elegant and clean. It’s about time we had a Soulslike with a more vibrant setting. The masks, the setting, the eloquence – everything looks so stylised. I can’t wait to ***** in.New Palworld Island, Sakurajima Image: PocketpairCome on, you knew the Palworld update...View the full article
  7. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has officially confirmed that there will be an offline multiplayer mode, though there is a big catch: fans can only play on one stage if they play locally. Going into Summer Game Fest, there was a ton of hype surrounding Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Like past entries in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, this game features destructible environments, a ton of playable characters, and over-the-top cinematic attacks. However, some fans were worried about the potential exclusion of offline multiplayer. View the full article
  8. Capcom's series about big beasts and the clothes you can skin/steal from them continues in Monster Hunter Wilds, which looked as great as ever in its newest trailer from tonight's Summer Game Fest show. We get new peeks at some lovely dunes, reptile-chicken mounts and bulky weapons. Oh, and some monsters ripe for huntin', presumably. Read more View the full article

  10. A relatively short while back in the Fall of 2022, *********** Twitch streamer Macaw45 made headlines when he released a fan game based on a joke about a Kevin Costner's Waterworld arcade game from a classic Simpsons episode. Could it be possible that this game has created a demand for more Waterworld games to come? Realistically, no. But it's hard not to get strong vibes about a new Waterworld game when looking at Tides of Tomorrow, the latest narrative adventure game from developer DigixArt, best known for the likes of Road 96. The game made its debut during tonight's Day of the Devs showcase, and as seen in the trailer below, it also happens to involve a flooded, post-apocalyptic world with people living on floating platforms, just without any Kevin Costner (not right now, anyway). 11. Enough moons ago to qualify as quite a lot of moons but not so much for me to categorise them as ‘many’, Alice Bee wrote about an ***** game called Kevin Costner’s Waterworld - a fully playable extrapolation of a Simpsons’ joke from three decades ago. Simpsons jokes from three decades making up most of my sense of humour, I of course thought it was brilliant. And yet, I couldn’t shake a singular, burning question: What if this, but not joke? Enter Tides Of Tomorrow. Ok, so I actually don't know if it has anything in common with Waterworld aside from having lots of water everywhere. Still, I'll never pass up an opportunity for a crispy Simpsons reference. Read more View the full article

  14. Developer Derek Yu cemented his statues as an indie gaming legend when he first released Spelunky as Mossmouth in 2008. His follow-up project would be UFO 50, an ambitious collection of fifty different retro games. but somewhere along the way, it seems to have disappeared. The last time we saw it, it was...well, this writer wants to say PAX 2018 at the latest. Since then, things seem to have gone quiet, even as Mossmouth put out Spelunky 2, until UFO 50 made a surprise re-emergence at tonight's Day of the Devs showcase...well, it wasn't a surprise to those who live in the ***, as it was the cover story in last month's issue of Edge. Or if you paid attention to Derek's Twitter account, where you'd see him explicitly say that the game would be in the showcase. Look, it was a surprise to this writer, okay? Besides, Derek did indeed have one surprise in store: A release date for UFO 50! View the full article

  16. Production studio Blumhouse announced a move into videogames in 2023 with a new division called Blumhouse Games, which it said will "partner with independent game developers to bring their creative vision to life via original, horror-themed games." 17. UFO 50 is a collection of fictional retro games designed as if they were made for a non-existent games console 40 years ago, but in reality have been developed as brand new titles for an upcoming collection from indie devs including Spelunky creator Derek Yu. With the ambitious project nearing a decade in its own development, though, those games have now taken on their own real history in addition to their made-up one. Those histories will meet this September, when UFO 50 finally sees the light of day. Read more View the full article

  20. It would have made sense, right? A side scrolling Power Rangers arcade brawler in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage, but it never happened in the golden age of the genre. Following the arcade brawler's new lease on life in recent years, Digital Extremes is here to finally make it happen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, with a reveal trailer having come out of today's Summer Game Fest showcase... 21. ccording to a fact on a website I've never heard of, the average person spends about five years of their life waiting in lines. Five whole years! Other sites I've never visited before say it's more like 3 years, or six months, or two weeks. The point is, never try to confirm a fact because it takes forever and there are no reliable answers anywhere, ever... Read more.View the full article

  24. Ahead of tonight's Day of the Devs showcase, it was revealed to us that there would new games from developers such as the husabnd-and-wife team of Cozy Game Pals. "Well, they sound like they're going to have something cute," we thought. So naturally, it turns out that their debut game is a throwback to '90s horror games with ***** the Spotlight, which as seen in the announcement trailer at this link, is as far from cozy as you can get. Notably, this also marks the debut for Blumhouse Games, after being founded early last year (NOTE: This article was written in advance before Blumhouse's showcase at Summer Game Fest earlier today, but yes, it is still Blumhouse's debut game, and the debut of the trailer).
