  1. The more I saw of Caravan SandWitch's trailer in today's Wholesome Direct showcase, the more I dug it. The "narrative-driven exploration adventure" has this uniquely desolate sci-fi look that reminds me of some of my recent favorites, while it also has a demo available to try right now on Steam... 2. Siding with any Fallout 4 faction has its consequences, and the Railroad is no exception. It's named for, styled after, and inspired by the real, historical Underground Railroad. Much as the Underground Railroad was a network of people, routes, and safe houses that helped people escape slavery, Fallout 4's Railroad employs similar methods to help Synths escape the Institute. The Railroad and its adherents are the biggest proponents of Synth humanity in the Commonwealth. They hold that the Institute denies Synths their due autonomy, and make it their life's work to help them escape. View the full article

  5. The advertising bonanza formerly known as E3 continues into its second day with another set of streams. The Wholesome Direct was today's highlight, in my mind. The yearly collection of games that may or may not be cosy, but which definitely do not involve stabbing men in the neck, always contains some games worth keeping an eye on. This year was no different, and you'll find the archived stream below. Read more View the full article
  6. First revealed in 2022, Starship Troopers: Extermination, the upcoming FPS based on the classic Starship Troopers movies, has been in early access for over a year. Now, it finally has a release date, and it's also coming to consoles with a new mode in store. Today during IGN Live, development team Offworld (along with Sony Pictures Consumer Products) announced that Starship Troopers: Extermination is officially headed to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 11. It's also receiving a singleplayer campaign starring actor Casper Van Dien, who played protagonist Johnny Rico in the original films. General John "Johnny Rico" will command players, along with their three NPC allies original to the game, in the campaign. The mode will have 25 missions, with a second chapter on its way after launch. Offworld also mentioned that crossplay will be enabled at launch. Additionally, the developer will soon share more information about the game's upcoming update, which is slated for release at the end of June. Starship Troopers: Extermination is a co-op PvE FPS game that lets up to 16 players recreate the action from the original movies and ****** off seemingly endless alien bugs in several different modes. We gave it a 6 in our early access review, saying that "with some time, Extermination could become the premier bug-stomping romp for big teams," and adding that it "captures the film's breakneck pace" in our preview. Starship Troopers: Extermination is also now being published by Knights Peak, a new ********* division of MY.GAMES that announced several more games today. 7. SNK has announced two characters for upcoming fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as part of Summer Game Fest 2024. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is the first new entry in the Fatal Fury series in 26 years, and follows the 1999 release of the much-loved Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It’s due out early 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X/S. Nintendo Switch and Xbox One miss out. During Summer Game Fest 2024, SNK revealed newcomer Vox Reaper, described as a street ********* “on a mission," and confirmed the return of B. Jenet, a character from both Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. Story-wise, Vox Reaper was hunting down Garou: Mark of the Wolves final boss Kain R. Heinlein when Kain’s bodyguard Grant takes him under his wing. B. Jenet, meanwhile, is a pirate captain who enters the upcoming KOF tournament because she sees it as "a chance to speak through action instead of words." Vox Reaper and B. Jenet join a roster of playable characters that already includes the likes of Andy Bogard, Terry Bogard (one of Street Fighter 6’s just-announced Year 2 DLC characters), and Rock Howard. IGN sat down to play Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in March and came away impressed. "You can tell a lot about a fighting game by how good it feels to sit down and play, and let me tell you, dear friends, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves already feels really good," we said. 10. The business side of video games is pretty grim right now. The unprecedented levels of layoffs, studio closures, developer downsizing, and the lack of funding many teams currently have to contend with all paint a worrying picture of our favourite medium. In this case, that’s Knights Peak. Read more View the full article
