  2. Months after its initial announcement, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has received a new trailer at the Summer Games Fest, detailing new features, story content, and the game's final release date. The first entry in its specific series of Dragon Ball games since Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 in 2007 (or the PlayStation Portable-exclusive Tenkaichi Tag Team in 2010,), Sparking! 4. A talented Minecraft player has created a castle that has left the community wondering if it is a real-life location. Since the beta version was 15 years ago, Minecraft has become the biggest-selling video game of all time, moving approximately 300 million copies across all its iterations. View the full article
  5. With Major Orders malfunctioning and bugs still plaguing Helldivers 2, you’d hope the community could at least hold themselves together. But, one issue still keeps people from enjoying all factions in the game—the Automatons, who prove to be way too annoying and difficult. And one Diver spelled it out perfectly. They don’t even show bots in their new Warbond trailer. Image via Arrowhead Studios On June 8, in a Reddit post titled “Reasons why a majority of players won’t ****** Automaton, and you can’t persuade them otherwise,” a Helldivers 2 fan detailed all the reasons that the faction’s unfun to ****** against. Despite fighting the bots themselves, the author brought 10 points to the table as to why someone might not want to battle on the Western front. “You must understand that Bug and **** have entirely different playstyles,” they began, listing how the bots forced players to think less about horde control and more about surviving. 6. Stardew Valley may be a game filled with magic and whimsy, but every so often a glitch comes around that takes the idyllic farming simulator and turns into something exceptionally bizarre. While its encouraged that the Farmer make friends with all the residents of Pelican Town as soon as possible, one citizen only shows up half way through the game's second year due his work in this military. Kent is a divisive character and while he may not be everyone's favorite, those who do identify with the veteran adore him and his gruff ways. View the full article
  7. When I started my Baldur's Gate 3 campaign with my friends, it was a way to connect to pals I've known for the greater part of my life, which I don't get to see often in the real world. Equipped with a pretty refined multiplayer co-op gamemode derived from the excellent Divinity: Original Sin 2, as well as ranking as one of the best games made in 2023, we were set to have a really great time. As it turns out, a BG3 co-op campaign is a lot different than a solo save, and throughout my playthrough, I learned a lot about the game and even more about myself. View the full article

(If you’re new here, welcome, hope you like gaming gadgets and silly spy movies, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.) This week, I’ve been reading about the tough times at Humane and how ******** Squad flopped, watching the TikTok dancing cult documentary and Furiosa, swapping my ******* Roku for a slightly less ******* Apple TV, listening to a lot of WikiHole, mixing up new mocktail recipes, and testing the Phanpy app for all things fediverse. I also have for you a new Raspberry Pi accessory, an incredibly well-liked movie to watch this weekend, a couple of fun tech books, some gaming gear, and lots more.... 9. Soulslike fans aren't exactly starving for new games. Ever since FromSoftware blazed a trail for challenging, thoughtful action RPGs, myriad developers have attempted to put their own spin on an increasingly well-worn formula. From fresh hits like ***** of P to the return of OGs like Lords of the Fallen, 2023 was in many ways the year of the soulslike, and Trialforge Studio wants to keep the ball rolling in 2024 with Deathbound. 10. The video game festivities continue later today, with Microsoft following up PlayStation's State of Play and Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest with its own Xbox Games Showcase - and you can watch the stream right here! Convenient, that, 'ey? It's been a bit of an odd year for Xbox. For starters, they finally got to spend all those billions of dollars to buy a few companies you might have heard of (Activision, Blizzard, King). On top of that, there's been a big internal shift away from having Xbox exclusive games, with flagship titles like Sea of Thieves (pardon the pun) Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment making their way to other platforms. Now, at 10am PT/ 1pm ET/ 6pm BST, Xbox will be showing off more of what it has planned for the coming months. You can check out the Showcase above via YouTube (which is also available in ASL right here), or you can watch it on the official Xbox Twitch channel if that's your preferred viewing platform. 11. Path of Exile 2 is the next big ARPG coming to the world, and there's a lot of excitement around it! But, when you're talking about the next big release from Grinding Gear Games, there's an obvious elephant in the room: Diablo 4. Speaking to VG247 during Summer Game Fest 2024, I sat down with game director Jonathan Rogers about what learnings the team has taken from the launch and continuous updates of Diablo 4. His response? The team learned little, but the game did cement some of Reger's pre-existing beliefs. The most pressing of these, the merits of an open world in ARPGs. "I don't think there's anything we directly responded to when it comes to Diablo 4," Rogers stated, "more than anything it confirmed other choices I always believed in. Like, I've always been skeptical of open world in video games, I know they can work in certain things, but for an action RPG in particular I'm not really a fan. I've always imagined that wouldn't work, and I certainly didn't love that element of Diablo 4." Read more View the full article

  13. In its first 24 hours, Destiny 2s Salvations Edge raid saw only one team beat it, which cements it as the hardest raid in the game to date, even more so than the previous record holder, Last Wish. Raids, with their unique mechanics and obstacles, typically rank among the most challenging activities Destiny 2 players can take on, so its fitting that the one meant to cap off the series' grand Light and Darkness saga would prove to be the greatest challenge yet. While warming up for the bench press, Ronaldo suddenly removed Bradley’s cap and put it on his own head. While demanding his hat back, Bradley leaned forward and slapped Ronaldo across the face, forcing Ronaldo to return the cap in question. View the full article

  18. The Driftlands used to be a standard fantasy realm, and that was nice while it lasted. After a mage war shattered the landscape into an expanse of floating islands in an endless sky it was never the same again, although a new group of mages did their best to rope them together a few centuries after the initial cataclysm. It's a really big sky out there, though, and the dwarves don't need to be overseen by mages and their endless conflicts. Tru has set out with his mini-dragon friend Ragna looking for suitable places to set up new colonies, and while the ****** landing may not have been the best start all his limbs are in one piece so the rest is just a matter of dwarven know-how. Throughout his journey, Jin will ride (or run) by stacks of linens, iron, supplies, and leather. While players may not need gold directly to buy anything, they will want it for another purpose. View the full article

  25. Davey Wreden is best known as the creator of The Stanley Parable and The Beginner's Guide, two of the most legendary indie games of the 2010s, with some of the best narratives. So needless to say, his return during Summer Game Fest feels like a pretty big deal. He returns with his new game development studio Ivy Road, alongside Gone Home's Karla Zimonja and Minecraft's Daniel C418 Rosenfeld, with their debut game, Wanderstop, set to be published by Annapurna Interactive. Wanderstop is a narrative-focused cozy game about Alta, a former fighter who now runs a cozy tea shop in a magical tea shop, where she serves tea to all of the delightful folks who come across them in their bright, colorful location, complete with cozy and relaxing benches...
