As with any Soulsborne game, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree requires players to do some investigating to uncover its story, lore, and mysteries. The expansion left many mysteries unanswered, annoyingly, but this isn't surprising, since FromSoftware is known for leaving many aspects of the worlds it creates up to interpretation. Quite frankly, discovering and learning about the lore that the game doesn't overtly tell its players has become part of the fun and is something to look forward to in many Soulsborne games. Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is hard at work on its next title, but the hit RPG is getting in the way of fresh ideas. If you can believe it, it's already been a year since Baldur's Gate 3 came out of early access. I know, I know, the passage of time is a daily existential crisis, but let's put that to the side for the minute. Larian is still doing some work on the beloved RPG, with sign-ups for its upcoming seventh patch closed beta having gone live last month. That patch is due out in September, but of course, the studio is also working on a couple of new "very ambitious RPGs" with a Larian lead summit taking place early last month too. Except, as it turns out, coming up with new ideas is hard, especially when you put so many good ones in your previous game. To commemorate the game's first anniversary, PC Gamer interviewed writing director Adam Smith about the game, and how coming up with ideas for the studios' next game is proving to be difficult. "One of the biggest problems we have now is that whenever we're talking about things, we say we did that in BG3," Smith said. "And it turns out, we did a lot of things in BG3 when we think back to it." This isn't actually a new problem for Larian, as apparently it also faced a similar issue with Baldur's Gate 3 and looking back to the Divinity: Original Sin games. Read more View the full article

Genshin Impact is introducing World Level 9 in Version 5.0, and the new difficulty mode comes with a major increase in the number of ascension materials dropped by bosses and other enemies. Since launch, Genshin Impact was made with the following progression in mind: each character would cap out at Level 90, each account could only reach Adventure Rank 60, and World Levels stopped at 8. Though players have long wondered if the developers would ever expand the progression system in Genshin Impact, Natlan has ample evidence that they strongly considered it. View the full article
The Sephiroth boss ****** in the first Kingdom Hearts is still one of the series' toughest, and it turns out his voice actor hasn't managed to beat it. We've all been there: you're rocking your way up through the ranks in Olympus Coliseum, not a care in a world. You're knocking down titans, you're facing off against Final Fantasy friends, you've got this! Then, those ***** strings start playing, and the one and only Sephiroth turns up. And of course, you get your **** thoroughly whooped, because he is tough as nails. He's still tough to this day, arguably even ******* than the second game's Sephiroth ****** if only because your toolset is wider in the sequel. So I can't exactly blame Lance Bass, the character's voice actor in the first Kingdom Hearts game (and a member of some boy band called NSYNC or whatever) for not having managed to beat him. As spotted by GamesRadar, Bass recently held a Reddit Ask Me Anything to promote an upcoming TV special of his, where one fan asked him how he can to be the voice of Sephiroth, and whether he's even played it and in turn beaten the Final Fantasy 7 villain. In response, Bass said "Yeah, I'm kinda badass as Sephiroth. No, I've never been able to ***** my own character. He is so hard! But definitely one of the biggest surprises, when I tell people I voiced Sephiroth. In fact, I think a lot of people get upset, they get taken aback that I voiced Sephiroth. But **** gives you a booming bass voice, and you gotta use it!" Read more View the full article
Five Laps at Freddy’s is a new indie racing game based on the hugely successful Five Nights at Freddy’s IP and there are 12 characters for you to choose from and race in its unforgiving levels. While not due out officially until sometime in 2025, a demo for the racing title is set to launch on Aug. 7 to give fans a teaser of what’s to come. With it, some of the game’s roster is set to be available to race, but unfortunately, the game is entirely single-player, so there is no way to have fun with friends—for now, hopefully. One of Pokemon's best spin-offs, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. No, you didn't miss a Nintendo Direct, but all the same the red and white game developer did announce a new title coming to its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack this week, which just so happens to be the fan favourite title Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. This classic spin-off of the monster catching series puts you in the shoes of a Pokemon for a whole entire game, and you don't have long to wait until you can try out the very first entry, as it's coming to Switch Online next week, August 9. Important to note, though, is that it's just Red Rescue Team coming to Switch. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was released way back in 2005 (or 2006 for those of us in the US and EU) for the Game Boy Advance, but its counterpart Blue Rescue Team was released on the exact same day for the Nintendo DS. As it stands, Nintendo hasn't made any kind of Virtual Console or Switch Online collection of DS games, meaning that the best version of the two games is unplayable unless you own an original copy of the game, or happen to own it on the Wii U's Virtual Console (which, as a reminder, you can no longer buy games digitally on since the console's eShop was shut down). In a year where competition among the best survival games has been fierce, Nightingale has struggled despite its striking sense of style. The "gaslamp fantasy" release from Inflexion Games hasn't reached the highs of rivals such as Enshrouded, Palworld, Once Human, and Valheim, and hasn't seen over 1,000 active players at once since the start of July. A Genshin Impact ***** shows Natlan's complete map, revealing where waypoints and enemies will be located. I don't think we need to worry about Zenless Zone Zero, as it's taken home almost $100 million since launching a month ago, but that's definitely not MiHoYo's best. MiHoYo's latest venture into the world of mobile games Zenless Zone Zero started strong last month in which it managed to reach $25 million in revenue in less than a week. Well, it's been more than a week now, it's been about four of them in fact, so there's only one question for it: how much has it made in total now? According to Gacha Revenue, which tracks revenue for all sorts of mobile games, it's made around $100 million dollars. That's based on data from spenders in China, who make up the bulk of the total revenue at a little under $69 million, and then Japan and the rest of the world is lumped together at $31 million. That's obviously nothing to sniff your nose at, but compared to Genshin Impact, which took in nearly $250 million in its first month, it's not exactly as strong a launch. This is seemingly a part of an ongoing decline when it comes to launches for MiHoYo, as Honkai Star Rail took in $130 million in its first month. Still better than Zenless Zone Zero, but again only half of what Genshin Impact achieved. That doesn't mean we have to worry about either game though (not just because that really is quite a lot of money). Read more View the full article
