I have been playing Genshin Impact since the games release back in 2020 and, despite my deep love for it, the action RPG by HoYoverse is not one I can currently recommend friends to start playing at this point in time. The title was released nearly four years ago and, since then, has expanded drastically. Starting off with the regions of Mondstadt and Liyue, the RPG started growing with the introduction of the icy reaches of Dragonspire, followed by Inazuma, Sumeru, and now Fontaine and, of course, other areas within pre-existing regions. The first trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop is here, and it's even brought a release date along with it. Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was first announced back in 2022, initially planned for release in 2023, though later caught a delay into 2024. Now, developer Dragami Games has offered up a first trailer for the remake of the cult classic game, which is described as "a definitive version of the game which leaves the story unchanged, with the focus on quality of life improvements and additional gameplay content." One such addition is the ability to switch between two modes - the Original mode, "which is based on the original release" or RePop mode, "which has less ********* and uses pop-art damage effects." The trailer notes that it's the RePop mode that was used for the in-game footage present in it, and it does work well with the tone of the game, unsurprisingly. As well as showing off the game in action, Dragami has also confirmed that the game will be releasing digitally September 25 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Dragami also outlined some new features and quality of life improvements in a separate post, like faster load times, a new Chained Hits Hunting system which can increase speed after landing consecutive hits, and auto-lock and auto-***** modes have been added to the Chainsaw Blaster. On top of that, there are new chainsaws, 30 costumes, and a time ******* mode. Read more View the full article
Elden Ring has widely been accepted as one of the best games ever made, yet director Hidetaka Miyazaki is apparently still searching for his "ideal fantasy RPG." When I say "Elden Ring is…" it's quite likely that your response is "a perfect video game." Whether that's actually true or not isn't for me to decide, but it is undeniably an incredibly beloved game. But the game's own director, Miyazaki, is still working towards making his version of what a fantasy RPG. The game maker recently spoke with PC Gamer, where he spoke about all manner of FromSoftware related topics (including whether he wants a Bloodborne PC port or not). While talking about old TTRPGs from the '80s like Dungeons & Dragons, Miyazaki said that "you might say that trying to capture the excitement of those old tabletop games and game books was one facet of making Elden Ring." When asked if he felt Elden Ring was an extension of those old RPGs, he explained, "I think more than anything, it's just my personal preference when it comes to RPGs and exploring those fantasy worlds, so you might see some of my personal idiosyncrasies come into play with Elden Ring there. Sundays are for hoping the plumber has ordered that new sink part in. My sink is ‘non-standard’ apparently. "Why can't I just be normal?!" I scream in silent longing. Armitage Shanks would never. Before I look forward to no longer having to wash up my pasta bowl in the same place I brush my teeth, let’s read this week’s best writing about games (and game related things!) For Aftermath, Luke Plunkett spoke to ‘Albert’, an anonymous industry vet, about the struggles of making a demo for a big showcase or event - despite sometimes knowing it’s “100% Grade A *********”. Actually, now that I think about it, I was at a studio (if not directly involved) in a trailer that was 100% Grade A *********. Essentially our publisher really, really wanted stuff to show and despite the fact that our next project wasn't even in the pitch phase, let alone production, we had an external team create a trailer to build hype. It was completely divorced from anything we hoped to do, and it was so early in development that it couldn't help but be misleading or tie our hands. That one sucked. It thankfully didn't eat up a ton of our resources and time, but it was still demoralizing because we had little to do with it and we all knew it was going to be promises that we couldn't necessarily deliver on. Those of you hoping for Helldivers 2 to get a dedicated story mode are out of luck, as Arrowhead has absolutely zero plans for one. Helldivers 2 is obviously one of 2024's biggest games, in part because it's just good fun, but also because of the way its story has evolved over the past few months. It's a story that could only be told in a live-service game, because of the collaborative nature of its various tasks and missions. That hasn't stopped some players wanting a dedicated story mode, though, with one player even asking Arrowhead's brand new CEO Shams Jorjani if such a thing could be created to play with friends. Jorjani had a quite blunt but understandable response: "Not happening. Sorry bro. That's like building an entirely new game." I can't blame Jorjani for such a response, having to create entire missions with their own unique narratives, on top of maintaining a live-service game, is a tough task for any team, but especially so for a studio like Arrowhead, which really didn't expect the game to ***** up as much as it has. Besides, the whole appeal of the game is really the stories you get to tell your friends when you ***** a bug in a cool way. Read more View the full article

A recent ***** that surfaced on social media hints at the possibility Cyberpunk 2077 could have had an expansion that was set on the Moon, complete with an off-map experience around the size of Night City (excluding the Badlands) itself. The ***** that surfaced on June 15 shows us a scrapped expansion set on the Moon. The leaks consist of images of a lunar base along with maps and file data for what would have been an off-map expansion. The Moon, according to lore from the Cyberpunk 2077 wiki, is heavily colonized and dotted with corpo-run cities that mine resources with a population of around 58,000 people, which would have presented a unique location that is vastly different from the bustling Night City on Earth. For better and for worse, Enotria: The Last Song is an ungainly marriage of Dark Souls 2 and the classics wing of a history museum. Enotria's demo echoes the eerie beginnings of FromSoftware's much-maligned sequel, but the interweaving of Mediterranean folklore, history, and theater lends it a bizarre and unsettling atmosphere that has it stand out from other soulslikes...
