  1. LEGO Fortnite has benefitted from regular updates since first launching in December 2023, but the arrival of fast travel is perhaps the biggest yet. To make a fast travel location, you need Rift Shards, and we’ll tell you where to get them. Fortnite’s v30.40 update on Aug. 6 added Rift Shards to LEGO Fortnite, a new Legendary material required to construct Bus Stations, which act as fast travel points in the mode. 2. I don't play much Call Of Duty any more. My feelings about the series have settled back from self-righteous fury over its Pentagon-sponsored war-fellating to a quieter, regretful sense that there have maybe been enough Call Of Duty games now, and that it would be nice if we could fill that infamous late October/early November release slot with, I don't know, games about witches instead, or maybe just turn it into a public holiday and spend the week lying on a mattress regarding the ceiling. Still: I've skinned and filleted enough COD in my time to know that ****** Ops 6's new "omnimovement" system is going to ruffle as many feathers as it smooths. The short version is that it turns you into Max Payne. Read more View the full article
  3. UFL is the new **** on the virtual football block. The latest attempt to bring the beautiful game to life has had enough of betas, and now it’s nearly ready to release. The UFL open beta was the final fixture on the pre-season calendar, and we’ve begun the final countdown to UFL‘s official launch. The title’s free-to-play model is one of the biggest enticements—as are its promised changes—and it’s seen as the main rival to EA FC 25. View the full article
  4. Destroying Bus Stations in LEGO Fortnite can be difficult; no matter what you do, they don’t seem to break. You should be able to disassemble any you come across using certain tools and get Rift Crystals, a new item added in the v.30.40 patch. Rift Crystals let you to create your own Bus Stations when they’re destroyed. So, what on earth is going on? Why aren’t the Bus Stations crumbling? View the full article
  5. You’re ***** at the start of rhythm-combat RPG Nocturne, just arrived in some sort of afterlife waiting room after the apparent extinction of humanity. You get your bearings, and you soon meet up with another, only slightly irritating, small child. His name is Kimothy, which sounds like something you’d only say as a joke to annoy friends named Kim, and then only once because it would be ******* to say it again. It’s fine! Leaves flutter, rays of sun cavort through trees, and the music is utterly gorgeous. The game opens on twinkly piano and mournful strings, infused with a good dose of stirring JRPG whimsy, and soon transforms into whatever the genre of music is called that makes you want to immediately go on a massive adventure. Potion-punk. ******-swing. Limit breakcore etc. Read more View the full article
  6. My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi promised a big announcement following the series' final chapter and it's… a worldwide popularity poll! OK, that's probably not the kind of announcement a lot of you were hoping for, but it's not insignificant. For those that are unaware, character popularity polls are a pretty common occurrence for the ******* Shonen Jump titles, across series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and yes, My Hero Academia. The only problem for international readers is that these polls are Japan-only, meaning you can't vote for your favourite character to help them take the top spot in the popularity contest. Except, as announced by Shonen Jump, for the first time in My Hero Academia's serialisation, you can! In fact, there's a couple of polls you'll be able to vote in. The first round is called Main Stage, and it kicked off yesterday, running until September 30. You can actually place one vote a date on the poll's official website, so if there's a character you're desperate to see come out on top, make sure you keep on it for the next couple of months. Then, in December, the winner of the Main Stage round will be announced on Shonen Jump's official YouTube channel on December 2, receiving the title World Best Hero, alongside a special video. 7. There’s lots of new content in Honkai: Star Rail version 2.4, but the beta for Patch 2.5 is already underway. With it, there are a bunch of new leaks, and some are teasing a new banner type in the near future that might change the game forever. On Aug. 6, a Redditor shared a ***** from UBatcha hinting that Honkai: Star Rail is getting a new banner type down the road, and it could be a big positive quality-of-life improvement. According to the *****, the new so-called Sub Banner has three switchable groups of old five-star characters and Light Cones. This means the older, Limited five-star units could be getting reruns more often. View the full article
  8. Half-Life: Alyx needs to be played. Ignoring all the amazing set pieces and revolutionary visual flourishes, if you're a long-time devout of Valve's FPS series, there are some vital story moments in the VR shooter that completely change how you look at Half-Life 2 and the episodes. There are ways to play Alyx without an expensive headset (more on that later) and now, as rumors abound that Half-Life 3 might actually, really, truly be in development, the 2020 sequel is available at a historically low price. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe it's not. But just to be on the safe side, this is probably a good time to give Alyx a whirl. Read the rest of the story... 9. After seeing her win rate drastically fall, Aurora, League of Legends’ newest champion, has been buffed in a micropatch. Only a few days ago, Aurora was dominating Summoner’s Rift, and players were even complaining about the champions’ strength. But now, her win rate has dipped well below 50 percent, according to League of Graphs. View the full article
  10. Despite Kazuma Kiryu spending smacking people across the face with his fists and throwing whole-**** motorbikes at them, he's still shied away from guest-starring in any fighting games. That's largely down to original series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi telling Red Bull back in 2020 that he didn't want to see Kiryu attacking any women... Read more.View the full article

  14. In a first for the online game platform, Roblox is teaming up with Warner Bros. to let you, uh, buy tickets for Beetlejuice 2. I would say it's quite a safe bet that the main way you buy your cinema tickets these days is online. It's safer, quicker, and means you can guarantee what seat you want. But have you ever thought to yourself "man, I wish I could make this slightly more inconvenient for myself by buying these tickets through some kind of video game, perhaps an online one where I can experience unique game worlds?" Well boy howdy does Roblox have the solution for you! In collaboration with Warner Bros., Roblox has made one of its definitely-not-games, Beetlejuice Escape the Afterlife, a we-promise-these-aren't-games game where you can hang out with the film's characters to, you guessed it, escape the afterlife. "As visitors enter Beetlejuice Escape the Afterlife on Roblox, they are immediately transported to The Afterlife Lobby - a spooky world that brings together familiar places from the original Beetlejuice movie with new scenes and experiences from the highly-anticipated sequel," Roblox shared in a statement. "From the lobby, fans can enter one of three immersive worlds, where they need to escape ghouls and rescue beloved characters like Delia and Lydia, and new characters like Astrid. They will visit The Waiting Room, see the Shrinkers (aka Shrunken Head Guy) and his friends, and even explore Adam’s model of Winter River, Connecticut during their rescue journeys." 16. When it comes to choosing armor in Elden Ring, the only stat that matters is fashion. Defenses are negligible enough that you can get away with wearing whatever looks good, so a keen-eyed invader is taking it upon themselves to judge the attire of garmented Tarnished roaming the Lands Between. In a video posted to r/EldenRing on Aug. 5, a player Redditors are calling the Drip Inspector warns the community: “If you ever see me invading, you better not be slacking with your Drip.” View the full article
  17. The latest update for The Sims 4 now has a new customization option for Sims, which changes what their romantic boundaries are and how they work. This is mostly for players who want as many options open for them as possible with the romantic relationships between their Sims. Players will be able to fine-tune exactly how their Sims behave around their partners and how that affects their emotions and other relationships. View the full article
  18. Yakuza / Like a Dragon characters like Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga probably won't show up as expansion fighters in other games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken anytime soon. Series producer and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama told Polygon he didn't think Yakuza characters appearing in other games was a good idea, and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will instead stick to exploring other mediums like it's doing with the Like A Dragon: Yakuza Prime Video series premiering on October 25, 2024. "Going across mediums like we did with [the Prime Video series] is better, rather than just going to another game," Yokoyama said. "We receive all kind of invitations to appear in other games, but we never actually went over to their doorstep and said ‘let us in.’ I think going cross-medium is the better way to go about it." Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article
  19. Wahey, Helldivers 2's Escalation of Freedom update is now live, bringing with it a number of ******* balancing tweaks that're probably worth taking a look at before you delve in. If you're just coming back to the game after a little break for this update, and haven't seen the headline stuff Escalation of Freedom's bringing, it's also well worth checking the list of big new features here. Especially since Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani's commemorated the update's arrival by ominously posting: "Helldivers - prepare your bodies. 'Today is a good day to ****'- Klingon proverb." In the full notes for the update, which you can find on Steam, Arrowhead's outlined the tweaks, which could well be tweaked further depending on the feedback it gets. Don't worry, there aren't as many as there have been in previous updates, and I'm pretty sure you'll like at least one of them. Read more View the full article
  20. Balatro ******** a ******* game on the minds of thousands of players around the world. It's a big success, with many eagerly awaiting new updates for the brilliant time *******. The future for Balatro ******** a mystery, though one thing we know for certain is that the game will never find a home in actual casinos, despite its obvious thematic connections. This revelation comes via Twitter, where the creator has ***** down the actions he has taken to stop any such plans. According to solo-dev LocalThunk, he has written a stipulation into his will so that when he *****, the Balatro IP can never been sold to a casino or gambling company. This info came out in response to a bizzare *********** theory from another user on the social media platform, who speculated (probably jokingly) that Balatro and its imitators were part of a secretive plan to get younger generations into casinos. A wild perspective to be sure, especially since Balatro is purposely lacking many of the invassive or predatory monetization features present in other games these days. 21. Cinematic platformer Bionic Bay opens on a scene of a very large egg doing very bad things - easily my third favourite genre of speculative fiction. You awake to a world of tree trunks that twist like viscera and corroded contraptions powered by luminous goop that’s stored in the ******, uh, big glass orbs. A beam of light soon fills your character with newfound vigour, which is a nice moment of triumph in what otherwise feels like a deeply oppressive rust pit, all unsteady platforms and jagged pipes. It doesn’t take long before you start spotting examples of the reason Bionic Bay went viral earlier this week. Above your head hangs a painstakingly detailed mass of vents and cables, looming lifelike with dust and shadow and history. I stood and stared because I’d seen how the sausage was made, but I like to think I would have lingered longer than usual anyway. It really is just that impressive. Read more View the full article

  23. Star Wars Outlaws is the franchise’s first open-world title—and expectations are high. While plenty is coming in the base game, we’ve also been given a sneak peek at a roadmap that tells us what to expect in the game’s first year. Like many other Ubisoft titles, Star Wars Outlaws will feature a Season Pass that provides additional story content, cosmetics, and missions, the latter of which includes some fan-favorite characters, expanding the game’s lore. 24. This week sees the release of a new Steam edition of Type-Moon and Kinoko Nasu's dark fantasy visual novel and dating sim Fate Stay/Night. I randomly watched one of Stay/Night's many anime spin-offs, Fate Zero, during the pandemic lockdowns. It triggered a short-lived obsession with the Fate series - I even dipped a toe in the long-lived mobile gacha game Fate/Grand Order. As such, I think I'm the nearest thing RPS has to a Fate "expert". Join me for a brief and sporadically informed tour of a universe that has Shaped The Culture like few others.
