  3. It Follows star Maika Monroe has teased the upcoming sequel They Follow, saying it's "just ******* and darker and more f**ked up." The original It Follows was now released over a decade ago, and it's pretty easy to call it a modern horror classic. It's timeless, purposely so, and everyone that has seen it hasn't been able to get that clam shell screen reader out of their heads since it was released. Surprisingly, though, director David Robert Mitchell announced last October that a sequel, titled They Follow, was in the works, with the star of the first film Maika Monroe set to return. It felt like an odd choice, especially after all this time, but also because the film ended so purposefully ambiguous. In a recent interview with Collider, Monroe spoke about the film, assuring everyone that it's happening for a good reason. "But as you know with the first film, I'm not taking any credit in this, David is brilliant. I mean, he is brilliant," Monroe said. "The whole movie transformed at that point. It was changing the game in the genre, and he wouldn't ever make a sequel if he didn't think it was going to top it . He's very specific, turns down so many… He just knows what he wants to do and what he wants to make. I mean, at first I'm like, 'Oh, a sequel? Where are we going to go here?' And I read it, and it's just so f**king good. It's so good. I'm so excited. I think where you'll meet Jay at this point is maybe not what's expected, but it's so cool. It's just, of course, as everyone says for sequels, literally, though, is just ******* and darker and more ******* up . Reading it was the craziest thing ever." Read more View the full article
  4. The excitement of another Final Fantasy XIV expansion has the community on the edge of its seats as we’re less than two weeks away from the arrival of Dawntrail. But before this launch, the game’s developer addressed some looming issues that could occur for weeks following the launch: login queues. The Final Fantasy XIV team has thoroughly explained how they plan to address these issues in an official statement. They were a significant problem when the previous expansion, Endwalker, was released in December 2021, and the issues continued throughout early 2022. The issues were so bad that at one point, Final Fantasy XIV was unavailable to purchase from multiple storefronts as new players could not log into the game. The team and the community are hopeful these problems won’t be nearly as bad for Dawntrail. View the full article
  5. Intel has come out to publicly admit that it still hasn't identified the root cause of its high-end Core i9 Raptor Lake CPUs having instability issues in games. The Intel CPU crashing issue that affects some of its 13th and 14th generation CPUs instead ******** an ongoing point of investigation for the company. The problems predominantly affect variants of the Intel Core i9 14900K and 13900K variants (KF, KS, and so on), which are the company's current best gaming CPU options. However, it can also affect the company's Core i7 14700K and 13700K processors. Read the rest of the story... 7. Square Enix has outlined its plans to combat congestion ahead of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail's official release - we all know that the launch queues are going to be astronomical. The previous expansion, Endwalker, faced lengthy wait times of up to a week after launch, and sales were eventually halted to alleviate traffic. Square Enix isn't going to make the same mistake with Dawntrail, however, and it's taking aim at AFK players to help minimize wait times. Read the rest of the story... 10. Fancy playing through Baldur's Gate 3's first act on a notebook from 1983? Me neither, but Alex Bowen over on YouTube has created an incredible demake of the popular RPG, and managed to get working on one of the world's first commercially successful laptops, the Tandy TRS-80 Model 100. While Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't demand the best graphics card in its system requirements, it was never going to work on hardware from the 1980s, so this project required quite a bit of creativity from Bowen, who posted a video breaking down the project in great detail. 13. Elden Ring creator and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has said he won't allow the devastating video game industry layoffs to affect his studio as long as he's in charge. Speaking to PC Gamer, Miyazaki said he can't 100% guarantee FromSoftware will be safe from job losses — which have so far seen thousands lose their jobs across the likes of Embracer Group, Microsoft, and Sony — but wouldn't allow it "as long as this company is [his] responsibility." FromSoftware is owned by ********* organization Kadokawa Corporation so the decision isn't wholly in Miyazaki's hands, however. Microsoft, for example, shut down Redfall developer Arkane Austin alongside Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire Tokyo developer Tango Gameworks in May 2024 despite posting a 17% increase in revenue and $21.9 billion in profit in its latest financial earnings report. As long as this company is my responsibility, that's something I would not let happen. But Miyazaki appeared confident Kadokawa shares his opinion on layoffs. "Speaking to myself and this company, I want to say that this is not something I would wish on the staff at FromSoftware in a million years," he said. "I'm pretty sure our parent company Kadokawa understands that and shares that view." He then referenced former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who famously took a pay cut himself when profits were down instead of resorting to layoffs. "I sincerely doubt employees who ***** that they may be ***** off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world," Iwata said at the time. Miyazaki echoed this statement. "I think it was the old ex-president of Nintendo, Iwata, who said 'people who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of making good things.' I'm paraphrasing that, but I totally share this view," he said. "I think it's true, and I think the people at Kadokawa, our parent company, understand that I hold this view very strongly. While we can't say 100% — we can't say with complete certainty what the future's going to hold for From and Kadokawa — at least as long as this company is my responsibility, that's something I would not let happen. So hopefully our players and our fans can take a little bit of assurance from that." Miyazaki's comments come just as Embracer shut down Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive after the game ******* to meet expectations. Pieces Interactive joins Free ******** Design, Onoma, and Volition Games as studios closed by Embracer in the last year amid layoffs affecting thousands of employees. 14. Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm has delayed the launch of Kameo character Ferra and announced the release date of the next DLC character, Takeda. Ferra, the small fighter who sat atop the hulking Torr as part of the combined Ferra & Torr character from Mortal Kombat X, was set to hit Mortal Kombat 1 in Kameo form later in June, but now launches alongside Takeda's early access release on July 23. In a tweet, NetherRealm said it needed “a bit more time to make sure she can assist to the best of her abilities,” and thanked players for their patience. Before we can release Ferra as our next Kameo Fighter, we need a bit more time to make sure she can assist to the best of her abilities. Ferra will now be available alongside Takeda's early access release on July 23. We thank you for your patience and will keep you updated. — Mortal Kombat 1 (@MortalKombat) June 17, 2024 July's launch of Ferra and Takeda completes Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack, which includes the Jean-Claude Van Damme character skin for Johnny Cage and six playable DLC characters: Omni-Man from the Invincible franchise, Quan Chi, Peacemaker from the DC Universe, Ermac, Homelander from The Boys, and Takeda Takahashi, as well as five DLC Kameo fighters: Ferra, Janet Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Tremor. Thoughts now turn to what follows for Mortal Kombat 1 during its second year, with NetherRealm yet to announce DLC plans. Earlier this month, a prominent Mortal Kombat 1 dataminer uncovered evidence to suggest that Ghostface from the Scream franchise is a future DLC character. Ghostface was assumed to be a part of the inevitable Kombat Pack 2, but the character's release may be tied up with the ongoing issues surrounding the next movie in the series, Scream 7. NetherRealm development chief Ed Boon has confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 will get story DLC and “a big surprise after that.” Meanwhile, the Mortal Kombat 2 movie is due out October 24, 2025. 19. Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge The onslaught of summer gaming news might finally be at an end — but not before Nintendo has its say. Following events from PlayStation and Xbox, along with Summer Game Fest and presentations focused on Ubisoft and EA games, Nintendo has announced its latest Direct presentation. It’s slated to last around 40 minutes and will be “focused on Nintendo Switch games coming in the second half of 2024,” according to the company. (There won’t be any news about the next Switch, however, Nintendo says.) As always with Nintendo, it’s tough to predict what to expect, though it’s possible we’ll see a number of rereleases of classic games and, just maybe, finally get a glimpse of Metroid Prime 4. You’ll definitely have to tune in to see what the... Continue reading… View the full article

  24. It's just over a month before Deadpool & Wolverine hits cinemas, but its director is already thinking ahead to future projects. Deadpool & Wolverine exists as a film in one part because Marvel likes making money, but also because the pair of characters are good friends (kind of) in the comics, and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman seemingly wanted to bring that relationship to the live-action screen for the first time. But Wolverine isn't the only relationship of Wade Wilson's that is a fan favourite, as the merc with a mouth is also often paired up with the web slinger himself, Spider-Man. There is a fourth Spider-Man in the works for the MCU, but on the live-action front, he's not had the opportunity to meet Deadpool just yet. But like a lot of fans, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is interested in bringing them together too. Speaking in an interview in the most recent issue of Total Film (via GamesRadar), Levy shared that he would love to bring Deadpool and Spider-Man together. "The thing about Deadpool is I think he makes everything more interesting because of his audacity," he said. "But, boy, I'd sure love to see Deadpool and Spidey. That's a movie I'd love to make. I feel like Tom Holland would run circles around everyone else." Read more View the full article
  25. Update 06-19-2024: Banana clicking game Banana has now knocked off smash hit role-playing games Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3 on Steam's most popular games of all time list. The game — which is literally about clicking an image of a banana over and over — now sits in 9th place on Steam's most popular games list per concurrent players. It's peak is now 884,469, more than Hogwarts Legacy at 879,308 and Baldur's Gate 3's at 875,343. This also means Banana is creeping up on eighth place New World, which has a peak of 913,634: just 29,165 more peak concurrents than Banana. Original Story 06-18-2024: Banana clicking game Banana is a certified Steam hit, amassing a colossal 858,915 concurrent players on the platform to become its 11th most popular game of all time. Data from player tracking website SteamDB shows Banana has overtaken the likes of Apex Legends, Valheim, Terraria, Fallout 4, Helldivers 2, and so many more as it enters the upper echelon of Steam royalty. "Banana is a clicker game in which you click a banana," reads its official synopsis. "Get a random banana every three hours and grow your collection." Banana currently has a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam with 88% of players recommending it. The huge player count puts Banana a tad short of the top 10 list, itself full of true heavyweights. But Baldur's Gate 3, which holds the 10th spot, has a peak concurrent player count of 875,343 — a mere 16,428 players above Banana. PUBG: Battlegrounds holds the top spot with an eye-watering 3,257,248 concurrents, Palworld comes next at 2,101,867, and Counter-Strike 2 is third at 1,818,773. Lost Ark, Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, New World, Hogwarts Legacy, and finally Baldur's Gate 3 all follow, with Banana holding the 11th spot. Players of Banana launch the game and beginning clicking a banana, as many times as they like, and that's about it. Its single Achievement is called CLICK and is awarded upon clicking a banana. Banana is a clicker game in which you click a banana. Get a random banana every three hours and grow your collection. Its draw perhaps comes from giving out Steam items, which can be sold for Steam credit or traded. Banana gives out banana skins as its item, and clicking on the game once in a while nets players a couple per day. Most of these skins are near worthless in terms of real-world money, estimated at fractions of a cent, but some rare ones, like a Sad Hamster Banana or a Shiny Banana, are listed for upwards of $200. The Crypticnana is listed at $1,149. Whether or not they sell for this amount ******** to be seen, of course. While some players may be looking to exploit a simple algorithm of clicking bananas to get rewarded in hard (Steam) cash, it seems many are just trading lesser bananas for fun and getting in on what appears to be somewhat of a joke. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. View the full article
