  3. Photo by Tom Warren / The Verge Intel has a big update on its crashing 13th and 14th Gen desktop CPUs — including a hint that maybe, just maybe, it might be able to do something about chips that are already failing instead of requiring you to return them. You can read its statement below in full, but here are the parts I find interesting: Intel says it’s now distributing the microcode that addresses elevated voltage issues to all its partners, not just Asus and MSI. (Updating your BIOS should help CPUs from deteriorating prematurely but doesn’t fix ones that already have.)Intel says it’s “investigating” possible “mitigations” for systems that are already showing symptoms, too — but the company’s stance is still that you should exchange any symptomatic CPU, Intel... 4. The weekend bears down on us like a host of hissing, barrel-throwing psychics, but there is yet time for some brief updates on Remedy's Control 2, which Remedy say is coming along nicely. 5. Look, the Borderlands film sucks. It sucks bad. This will likely come as zero surprise if you've been online enough to watch even one of the pre-release trailers or catch any of the discourse around them, and if you were lucky enough to avoid that the critical reviews have been brutal: We forced Joshua Wolens to watch it yesterday and it left him longing for the relative pleasures of the famed 1993 stinkeroo Super Mario Bros, which believe it or not is one of the less vicious critiques of the Borderlands film I've read over the past 24 hours... 7. Cat Quest 3 is full of puns and pirate adventures, but with the main campaign only taking about 10 to 15 hours to complete, many players may feel like they are wanting more. Developers at The Gentlebros have accounted for this by adding in several ways that the fun can continue long past the 15-hour mark. Whether someone wants to try the game with modifiers in place, or simply see how powerful they can get with an increased level cap, there are quite a few options for playing again and again. 8. 13 years since Skyrim first arrived, and with Bethesda's attention currently turned towards Starfield and Shattered Space, the days of official new material for the fantasy RPG are almost certainly behind us. But The Elder Scrolls 5 is eternal. From the maker of superlative Fallout 4 mod Sim Settlements, Bards College, a new, unofficial Skyrim expansion, is so professional, so polished, and so big that it feels like it's come directly from the House of Howard. The Elder Scrolls 6 may be a while away, but we now have a new quest line, expanded shouts, music and singing mechanics, and, essentially, a fresh full faction to rival the Thieves Guild and the Blades. Oh, and the whole thing is out right now. Read the rest of the story... 16. Here’s an idea for you: A single screen roguelike based on an old gambling game where you engineer impossible feats of luck to earn money that you can use to buy items and packs to rocket a point multiplier to obscene heights. 17. Overwatch 2 fans are hoping Blizzard follows Fortnite's footsteps in its recent decision to make expired battle pass skins available for purchase over a year later. The unfortunate nature of seasonal battle passes in Overwatch 2 is that once the current season expires, all unearned content becomes permanently unavailable. 18. Do you remember Thatcher's Techbase, the ***** mod that lets you ***** deceased former *** prime minister Margaret Thatcher, whose actions while in office rendered her more hated by working class people than even the numerous Tories that've followed in her footsteps since the 1980s? Well, it's now playable on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles. If this is your first time hearing about Thatcher's Techbase, first of all, where have you been? 20. The Crush House is a delighfully unique title that's part social sim, part mystery, and part hilarious vaporwave fever dream. The "thirst-person shooter" comes from developer Nerial Games, which previously worked on Card Shark, and indie publisher Devolver, known for work on games like Cult of the Lamb and The Talos Principle. Crush House is wholly entertaining and genuinely unique in the way it blends genres, sense of humor, and fun aesthetics, with only a few issues of bugs and repetition getting in the way. 21. When I zoom the camera on Alex's momentarily untensed face while he's dozing by the pool, it's not because I'm a creep. When I pursue Ayo and Dija around the garden, keeping their feet and butts in shot as they belittle each other, it's not because I'm a busybody and a lech. And when I pan to the lighthouse piercing the sunset beyond the security spikes, it's not out of any feeling of wonder, or even curiosity about possible escape routes. Please understand: I do not see these people, these objects at all, just the boneless, faceless traces they leave upon my own servitude to the lens. Read more View the full article

  25. Game install sizes are the worst. Ok, a bit dramatic, but I can't be the only one that groans when I look at a game's system requirements and spot a huge number of GBs I'll have to make room for on my SSD.
