  3. Ever since Elden Ring released on PC modders have been tinkering with FromSoftware's brilliant RPG, and by far the most popular out there is the Seamless Co-op mod, which has been downloaded 3.8 million times. FromSoftware's games have gravitated towards making co-op easier, but Elden Ring still imposes considerable restrictions on the length of time you can spend together. Seamless Co-op simply says "sod that", and lets you play through the entire game with a buddy... Read more.View the full article

  6. It is possible to level up fast and consistently. Leveling up quickly can be a great advantage in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. There are typical avenues like grinding for battles, but also alternate means. Some provide large chunks of experience points slowly, while others are smaller amounts that are fast and consistent. 7. Following Microsoft's shuttering of a bunch of studios last month, including Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks and Redfall studio Arkane Austin, Xbox's execs have been asked a few times - as you'd hope - which that call was made. Matt ******'s the latest to talk about it with regards to Tango in particular, and his answer's an interesting one. Prior to ******, the current head of Xbox Game Studios, saying the stuff below, the console maker's big cheese Phil Spencer had put the closures down to the need to "run a sustainable business" meaning that "sometimes I have to make hard decisions that frankly are not decisions I love, but decisions that somebody needs to go make". Now, asked specifically about Tango's shuttering during an interview on Variety’s Strictly Business podcast, ****** seems to have implied that the change in leasdership at the studio necessitated by founder Shinji Mikami's departure in 2023. 10. NZXT isn't the first name that comes to mind when thinking about gaming keyboards, but that just makes the NZXT Function 2 a more pleasant surprise after my time testing both the full-size and MiniTKL models. While the Function 2 lacks some high-end gaming features like per-key adjustable actuation and rapid trigger, what it does offer is still well worth the MSRP, and still gives you the ability to customize your switches and keycaps if desired. All in all, the NZXT Function 2 is one of the best gaming keyboards if you're trying to get the most for your money without spending more than $150. As brands like Razer and SteelSeries stuff their premium boards full of features, leading to an inflated cost, it opens up the mid-range market to products like the Function 2 which still has plenty to offer but does so without the eye-watering cost. 12. With Cities Skylines 2 still trying to find its feet and the idea of a new SimCity seemingly a pipe dream, there's a gap in the market for a more realistic management simulation of modern towns and cities. While the likes of Manor Lords and the upcoming Frostpunk 2 offer plenty of that satisfying city-building action, sometimes you crave that modern grittiness that only the reassuring rumble and churn of everyday industry can provide. 13. While some of the best space games such as Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, and Star Citizen are names you've likely heard of, one of the most sophisticated space sims on Steam flies a little more under the radar. X4: Foundations is the sort of comprehensive sandbox that might be too much for some - this is a far cry from the simple space RPG of Starfield - but if it clicks for you, it's tough to top, and the launch of a big update and new story DLC makes now a great time to check in. 18. Pokémon Go is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in June 2026, and Niantic is already thinking of plans on how to celebrate this massive milestone. This should be no surprise. Even back in 2023, Niantic had its eyes focused on Pokémon Go’s 10-year birthday. Plans are now underway, and according to Pokemon Go’s Director, Michael Steranka, fans should expect something incredible. Talking at Pokémon Go Fest Madrid on June 14, Sternaka said the 10th anniversary is “something that has been top of mind for me personally, for a very long time” and while he “can’t share any specifics on what it is, we’re talking about for that,” he did want to let us know it’s shaping up to be incredible. 21. When I first joined the gaming news industry, my main assignment was producing Valorant content. I've played Riot's FPS from day one, but have since fallen out of love with online shooters because the gameplay just feels slightly repetitive (and I'm not as good of a shot as I once was). The Finals piqued my interest because it did something different, but its rapid decline means I've only taken it for a spin once or twice. Yet, a part of me still yearns for some good ol' fashioned head popping, so when I caught wind of Strinova, which is a bizarre mashup of Riot's FPS and, surprisingly, Genshin Impact, I was intrigued. 23. Elden Ring expansion Shadow the Erdtree will seemingly feature developer FromSoftware's toughest ever bosses, as toning down the difficulty would "break the game itself" according to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. FromSoftware games are known for being challenging but the conversation around video game difficulty reached new heights thanks to Elden Ring selling 25 million copies. Amid some calls for the developer to make things easier or add different difficulty modes, however, Miyazaki has clarified why FromSoftware instead looks to continuously push players. "If we really wanted the whole world to play the game, we could just crank the difficulty down more and more, but that wasn’t the right approach," Miyazaki told The Guardian. "Had we taken that approach, I don’t think the game would have done what it did, because the sense of achievement that players gain from overcoming these hurdles is such a fundamental part of the experience. Turning down difficulty would strip the game of that joy, which, in my eyes, would break the game itself." Shadow of the Erdree, which arrives today, June 21, 2024, features bosses with which FromSoftware "really pushed the envelope" on what the player can withstand, Miyazaki said ahead of its release. In fact, getting into the expansion even poses a challenge as players must defeat an optional boss. Those eager to explore every inch of the expansion can check out IGN's extensive guide, which covers Shadow of the Erdtree's new weapons, its various quest lines, and how to defeat those pesky new bosses. In our 10/10 review, IGN said: "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single player expansions," we said. "It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on." 24. The developer of Witcher 3 has congratulated the developer of Elden Ring after the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion overtook Blood and Wine to become the best-reviewed expansion ever. At the time of this article’s publication, Shadow of the Erdtree has a Metascore of 95, whereas Witcher 3 expansion Blood and Wine currently sits on a Metascore of 92. IGN’s Shadow of the Erdtree review returned a 10/10. We said: “Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on.” Blood and Wine, which came out in 2016, got a 9/10. We said: “Geralt gets a fitting sendoff in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine, courtesy of a strong cast and new items.” In a tweet, CD Projekt congratulated Elden Ring developer FromSoftware for the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, and even pointed to its own staff preparing for its release today, June 21. “For the last eight years, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine had the honor of being the best reviewed expansion for a role-playing game,” CD Projekt said, “but @ELDENRING gets to wear that crown now. Congratulations to the entire team at @fromsoftware_pr on their stellar work!” Here's a live view of REDs this week trying to prepare for Shadow of the Erdtree. [Hidden Content] — The Witcher (@witchergame) June 21, 2024 The tweet about CD Projekt staff preparing for the release of Shadow of the Erdtree is of course in relation to the requirements that must be met in order to access the expansion within the base game — players must tick off a handful of obscure feats beforehand, including beating an optional boss. IGN's guide on how to prepare for the Shadow of Erdtree is fully up to date with everything you need, however, and make sure to check out our Elden Ring interactive map to ensure you're not missing any important collectibles. As for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt is working on another game set within the fantasy universe, codenamed Polaris, but it won't arrive until 2025 at the absolute earliest, and probably later. There are two other Witcher games on the horizon too, including a remake of the original Witcher and a multiplayer spin-off. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. 25. FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki said he’s interested in making a more traditional JRPG now that Elden Ring production has wrapped with the release of Shadow of the Erdtree. Miyazaki covered a few possible interests for future FromSoftware projects in a June 20 Rolling Stone interview, including the JRPG, which Rolling Stone says “part of him wants to make” someday. At the time of writing, FromSoftware has not released any official word on what’s next for the studio now that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is out, but this JRPG is a potential path.
